I've ordered takeout here a few times now, mainly for the Wonton Noodle Soup and the XLBs. The wonton noodle soup is comforting and flavorful with a solid portion size, especially for the price. The noodles still held up pretty well during takeout too. The XLBs are definitely the highlight for me, but I'd highly recommend dining in for those. A new Ma Ma Lu restaurant close to my house, nice. First time here, place newly remodeled, dining area slightly smaller than their Puente hills location. Nicely decorated, staff really nice, helpful and attentive. Everything ordered tonight tasted great. Only issue was that the portion sizes were a little underwhelming, could be a bit larger. We had a great lunch at Mama Lu's West Covina. My parents and my wife had a delicious family luncheon. Mama Lu's right next to Krua Thai. Parking can be a challenge pending the time of day as it's in the Haven City complex. This location is extremely nice. They keep it noticeably clean. We are familiar with Mama Lu's as we had gone to the Pasadena location before. The servers here very attentive the moment we walked in. It was not too crowded at all when we came in and they seated us at one the round tables in the middle. We came here mainly to try the Dumplings and some of the entrees. We ended up ordering: Shrimp Dumplings Shiu Mai Beef Wrap Seafood Pan Fried Noodle Corn and Egg Soup Sautéed String Beans Each of the entrees came out one after the other. The presentation and portions were massive. Each entrees looked abundant. The dumplings were big and I love the containers they were in. I normally order from Mama Lu's Dumpling House in Monterey Park, but I had already left the area. Luckily, they have a location in West Covina which is on my way home. Thanks Mama Lu's for being conveniently located at Hong Kong Plaza! Btw, they are in the same plaza as Haven City Market. I called in to place my order. Lady staff on the phone was pleasant. Just a heads up -- parking can be tricky depending on the day and time since it's in the same plaza as Haven City Market, which gets pretty busy. All are consistently flavorful and generously portioned. The French Style Beef Tenderloin and Pork Chop with Spicy Salt are especially satisfying if you're craving something savory and hearty. The seating area is a good size for groups. They do have a good amount of staff. Lady came by with a small dish of fried peanuts and a kettle of jasmine tea. We chose to get their xiao long bao ($10.99), sauteed green beans ($16.50), Yang chow rice rice ($17.50), hot and sour soup ($13.25), and salt and pepper shrimp ($18.75). I order a few items I haven't tried from Mama Lu's and I was quite disappointed. The hot & sour soup was so, so, so sour! The salt & pepper chicken wings were too salty. The fried veggie with meat bun could be better (I think bc I'm comparing them to Shanghai Shengjian Bao from Kang Kang Food Court). Those are the items I would not order again. Items I loved and would order again are the enoki mushroom with bean curd cubes and the crispy fried coconut bread (basically friendly mantou) with condensed milk as a dipping sauce. Interior is clean and spacious with some Asian drawings on the walls. Server was friendly and welcoming but not so attentive. She keeps on chatting with one regular customer and made us wait until she's done chatting to bring our needs, very unprofessional behavior. We came for a late lunch in the afternoon. We ordered their Juicy Pork Dumplings, Chinese Spinach Rice Cake, and Shanghai Style Chow Mein. The pork dumplings were okay but both of the rice cake and chow Mein were undercooked and taste bland, rice cake was too chewy and the chow mein was chalky. We end up packing them to go. Unfortunately, food is not as good as their other locations. I might come back and give them another try for other dishes on the menu. Mama Lu's is located in the West Covina Haven plaza. Outside of prime hours, there's a lot of parking. I got the beef chow fun and an order of xiao long bao. The beef chow fun had a great texture and the beef itself was super tender. It was a light soy taste, just a good classic. I prefer a slightly stronger soy taste in my usual, but honestly it was still very good. I was worried about the xiao long bao because I just got back from Taiwan where I had a lot of XLB options. Luckily, it was great! The wrapper was slightly thick with a light tackiness to the touch. The broth was hot and clean, not too porky or chivey. Paired with the classic chili oil and black vinegar, it was just a straightforward good bite. The inside is decent in size and the servers are nice. The fried pork buns are pure carby goodness and it's literally the goated pairing with chili oil. I have been eating at Mama Lu's for about 10 years, so when I heard that they were coming to the city I live in I was overjoyed! Typically, I order seaweed fish, and the Westlake soup, and dumplings! And we have gone to the Rowland Heights location for seaweed fish, but prefer the one in Monterey Park, because it is more crispy, so we wanted to try the one in West Covina! We have been waiting for them to open and on Thursday evening and were surprised to see it finally open! To start the fish, here is delicious, the batter is thinner, and stays more close to the fish, is not as airy as the one in Monterey Park, but still very delicious, and not at all soggy. The beef, is now one of our go to items! The meet itself is very tender and soft, and the meal goes very well together with the mushrooms and onions. The onions were raw and a very nice touch. The sauce was very yummy and sweet, we were expecting the meal to be on the saltier side, and were surprised! We could not stop eating it!
