I was genuinely surprised by how spacious this restaurant was. From the outside, I never would have guessed how large the dining area is. I've ordered takeout here a few times now, mainly for the Wonton Noodle Soup and the XLBs. The wonton noodle soup is comforting and flavorful with a solid portion size, especially for the price. The noodles still held up pretty well during takeout too. The XLBs are definitely the highlight for me, but I'd highly recommend dining in for those. They're best enjoyed fresh out of the steamer when the soup inside is still super juicy. With takeout, some of the broth tends to leak out during transit, so you lose a bit of that signature soup dumpling experience. Overall, a solid spot if you're craving Taiwanese-style comfort food without breaking the bank. Good portions & reasonable prices.

Traditional. Iconic. Heritage-style. I know my mom and grandma would approve. My all-time order is the French-style beef (I won't accommodate, sorry ) My family loves the salted fish & chicken with eggplant, because "it can't be easily made at home" Also ordered the pan-fried dumplings -- their recommendation and a classic must-order. Joined some friends for dinner on a Friday night and luckily it wasn't too crowded. After a long day at Universal Studios the food hit the spot. There's plenty of seating and plenty of food options on the menu. My friends and I ordered a few different dishes to share, all a good portion. We had some hot tea that came in so handy for the cold evening.

Love this location. It's so spacious, and clean! It's located in the Haven City plaza that offers plenty of parking. I've been to other locations before, but I like the fact that this one isn't too busy at time. The waitress that helped us is very friendly, and the food here is delicious & plentiful. Pictured are the Seafood Chow Mein, the Fish Dumplings, and the fried fish with seaweed.

I'm amazed that this place not packed yet, food is flavorful and waitresses here are much much nicer than others. This spot is newest I think but taste wise is better than the rest. And since not many people knew yet there is no waiting lines. Good luck guys see you next time

We had a great lunch at Mama Lu's West Covina. My parents and my wife had a delicious family luncheon. Mama Lu's right next to Krua Thai. Parking can be a challenge pending the time of day as it's in the Haven City complex. This location is extremely nice. They keep it noticeably clean. We are familiar with Mama Lu's as we had gone to the Pasadena location before. The servers here very attentive the moment we walked in. It was not too crowded at all when we came in and they seated us at one the round tables in the middle. We came here mainly to try the Dumplings and some of the entrees. We ended up ordering: Shrimp Dumplings Shiu Mai Beef Wrap Seafood Pan Fried Noodle Corn and Egg Soup Sautéed String Beans Each of the entrees came out one after the other. The presentation and portions were massive. Each entrees looked abundant. The dumplings were big and I love the containers they were in. The beef roll was delicious and the pan fried noodles tremendous. My parents and wife had a great family lunch together. They were all happy with the food. Mama Lu's West Covina is a solid option for some dumplings and other traditional Taiwanese cuisine. Bring the family and bring the friends. Thanks, Mama Lu's! ( ^_^)b

Solid Chinese/Taiwanese restaurant and I'm really glad they expanded into this area. It's a great addition to the neighborhood. Just a heads up -- parking can be tricky depending on the day and time since it's in the same plaza as Haven City Market, which gets pretty busy. The restaurant itself is spacious and can easily accommodate larger parties, which makes it a great option for group dinners or family-style meals. I've been here multiple times and have a few go-to dishes: the Beef Udon, Thai Seafood Fried Rice, French Style Beef Tenderloin, Pork Chop with Spicy Salt, and the Fish with Seaweed. All are consistently flavorful and generously portioned. The French Style Beef Tenderloin and Pork Chop with Spicy Salt are especially satisfying if you're craving something savory and hearty. I've also tried the Beef Noodle Soup -- the broth had tons of flavor and depth, but the meat wasn't as tender as I would've liked. Still enjoyable, just not my favorite on the menu. Overall, this is a great choice for Chinese food in the area. Good variety and perfect for sharing with a group. Definitely a spot I'll keep coming back to.

My husband, his parents, and I ate here recently and it was a delight! My husband and I visited the Pasadena location a while back, and I remember the food being just as delicious. First thing we noticed was how spacious the restaurant is. It doesn't look like it would be looking from the outside. We also noticed their choice of design for the teacup, soup bowl, soup spoon, and plate set, versus the typical plain white dishes you see at other Chinese restaurants. Mama Lu's wants to stand out amongst the rest from start to finish. We ordered the Shiu Mai, Shrimp Dumpling (har gow), Seafood Pan Fried Noodle, Corn and Egg Soup, Sautéed String Beans, and Beef Wrap. They are generous with their portions and the food tasted better than I remembered. We couldn't keep our forks down and didn't have much to take home! The dishes I liked most were the shrimp dumpling and seafood pan-fried noodle. What I also liked besides the food was the customer service. Each food item was placed on the table carefully and each time the server checked on us. They'll also pack your leftovers for you while you pay for the check. Overall, this is a great spot for lunch with friends and family. Thank you, Mama Lu's, for the wonderful experience. We will be coming back!

Bought some vegetarian dumplings and they were very good! Skin was thin and full of a variety of veggies and noodles. Will come back again to try other dumplings. Place looks nice and service was good. I would come back for a date for this place. Parking is ample, but weekends are busy.

I normally order from Mama Lu's Dumpling House in Monterey Park, but I had already left the area. Luckily, they have a location in West Covina which is on my way home. Thanks Mama Lu's for being conveniently located at Hong Kong Plaza! Btw, they are in the same plaza as Haven City Market. I called in to place my order. Lady staff on the phone was pleasant. I got one Wonton Egg Noodles Soup and one West Lake Beef Soup. Both are my youngest daughter's favorites. She said both were delicious. Upon arrival, I got lucky with a parking spot right up front. My order was ready. Paid for my order. I was then on my merry way. They weren't super busy at the time. Lots of inside seating. Bright and clean interior. Atmosphere was welcoming. Next time I'll have to come for a dine-in experience. Thanks Mama Lu's!

Salt & pepper chicken wings. 1/5. So, so salty!!

I've always loved Mama Lu's. This was my first time trying it at this new location in West Covina. The restaurant looked clean. Staff was friendly. I order a few items I haven't tried from Mama Lu's and I was quite disappointed. The hot & sour soup was so, so, so sour! The salt & pepper chicken wings were too salty. The fried veggie with meat bun could be better (I think bc I'm comparing them to Shanghai Shengjian Bao from Kang Kang Food Court). Those are the items I would not order again. Items I loved and would order again are the enoki mushroom with bean curd cubes and the crispy fried coconut bread (basically friendly mantou) with condensed milk as a dipping sauce. I don't know what they call it coconut bread, there's not coconut flavor at all. Overall, I'll definitely come back, but will try other items since they have so many items on their menu.

I think they put too much dark soy sauce for coloring. the soup came last in a big clay bowl. tasty but the veggie is a little too soft/overcooked, and not enough bamboo shoots. when we asked for check, the server asked if we'd like to have some chinese dumpling desserts, compliments of the house. of course!!! it was another big bowl of sweet soup with egg flowers and lots of small sesame stuffed tang guan (dumpling). perfect ending!! this place is a staple in the n neighborhood for a long time. the food was always on par and price is reasonable. however, this time I felt the the presentation and flavors were not the same as before. we will still come back when we feel like a quick Shanghainese food.

Szechwan DanDan Dry Noodles w/ Peanuts: Excellent. It was a bowl of dry noodles topped with green onions, crushed peanuts, and sesame sauce. It tasted like an upgraded version of sesame noodles with a better texture. Ding's Special Cold Plate: Excellent. This signature appetizer platter was one of the restaurant's best. It included five items: dried tofu, seaweed, pig ear, beef tripe, and spicy beef shank. Fried Pork Chop + Green Mustard Fried Rice + Spiced Eggs: A must-order. The fried rice had great "wok hei" (breath of the wok). The fried pork chop, which had a bit of fat, was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The juiciness and the texture of the melted fat were perfectly handled without being greasy. Shanghai Sesame Fermented Rice Dumpling Soup: A must-order. The portion was huge and enough for four people. It used mini tangyuan (rice balls) with sesame filling, and the combination of osmanthus powder, fermented rice, and egg drop was excellent. Also, it wasn't overly thickened with starch like at other restaurants. Soybean with Bean Curd Leaves: Very good. The moisture was reduced to just the right level, and the flavor was as satisfying as a meat dish. In addition, unlike the cold appetizers served elsewhere, this one was served hot. Braised Pork Belly: Good. It came with two translucent-looking spiced eggs and four pieces of pork belly. The sweet sauce was well-absorbed, and the meat was stewed until it was quite tender with almost no "porky" smell. Overall, it was a good dish, but the version at Blue Magpie in Arcadia is even better. The following dishes were good but not must-tries: Pan-Fried Dumplings, Steamed Dumplings, Stir-fried Rice Cakes, Braised Beef Noodle Soup, Shrimp & Pork Wonton Soup, Fish Fillets in Rice Wine Sauce, and Stir-fried Spinach with Garlic. Steamed Stinky Tofu: Highly not recommended! Is this even Jiangzhe cuisine? It tasted more like Sichuan-style poached stinky tofu. It was way too salty, so much so that I stopped eating after about 60% and didn't even have the desire to take the leftovers home. Shanghai Style Salted Chicken: Highly not recommended! The chicken texture was quite dry, and the worst part was the abundance of small bone fragments. I was afraid to chew too hard for fear of damaging my teeth.
