I came here when they were providing food at a winery which was a good thing. I'm glad they were there and I appreciate that they had some food that was edible and good. The portions are quite small, though. And my thoughts aren't about the taste, which was acceptable, but on the presentation. We got the three meat plate and all of the sides were smushed together in one compartment. I was hoping to have some baked beans, however, they were littered with flecks of cornbread (probably not gluten free) and bits of mac and cheese (definitely not gluten free). Additionally it was almost on top of the potato salad (mayo-yech). So some of the meat had those issues as well. So the food was OK and the sides were mixed in and there was a sprinkling of cornbread over everything. The places I love to go to don't do this. So, three stars for me. I can't say that I'd order from them. My husband liked it, but he eats almost anything. I probably wouldn't go back. I'm bringing my own food next time! read more

I ordered the brisket and chicken for a Rosh Hashanah party and I'm so glad I did! EVERYONE wanted to know where the brisket was from. It was absolutely delicious. Matt's food and service was amazing! He catered for my parents 50th wedding anniversary for 130 guests but we had well over 150 guests show-up and fill their tummy's. Not only was their plenty of food for seconds BUT they all raved and loved the food. I was a little hesitant due to the fact that the majority of the guests are Hispanic and they are so accustomed to Mexican food but boy was i wrong. They loved all the meats and sides. The Brisket was the winner, followed by the hotlinks oh and i cant fail to mention the "Juicy" chicken including juiciest chicken breast they have ever had...:) Spinach salad and baked beans was also a big hit! Wanted to take a moment to share about the amazing food and even better customer service I received from the Oakland smoke shack. I work in business development and was tasked with getting bbq for 40 people on very short notice. Additionally, the delivery location was not ideal. The owner of the company was extremely communicative and thorough. I found him to be extremely professional and helpful. This company really were the heroes of the day and they made me look good with my boss and our guests that day. Now, let's talk about the food. As I said, I had two days to get food for so I chose to sample most of the menu. The smoked St. Louis ribs were so, so good. I loved how tender and flavorful the seasoned chicken was. They had vegan sausage options which were awesome as well (so say my friends that had that option). The smoked brisket was probably my favorite. But the smoked pulled pork and smoked apple sausage crushed it as well. All the sides I had were super tasty also! I would write more about it but the more I do the hungrier it is making me. This place is the best!! I reached out to them just a few days before our housewarming party. Matt responded right away and was very easy to work with. They delivered delicious food right on time and everyone loved it. Everyone complimented it and asked where we got the food! We did the pulled pork with slider buns, roasted chicken, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and quinoa salad. I made a salad and added dessert, and we were good to go! I can't believe how easy and seamless the whole process was. The pulled pork was great and their BBQ sauce is amazing. The mac and cheese was also really good. It was the perfect combo of food for us - we had quite a few families with kids so I particularly appreciated that it was delicious and still kid-friendly. My only caveat is that we way over ordered. We had a tasting beforehand so we already knew it was going to be great but it was so nice to have happy guests. Oaklnad Smoke Shack instantly became our favorite BBQ place in the bay area. We first tried it at a baby shower and had been looking for an excuse to get it catered. They provide some of the juiciest meats you'll find anywhere. The mac&cheese is perfect and the quinoa salad was surprisingly delicious. Every person that tried it put the BBQ in their top 3 and asked about their catering services. Matt is great to work with. Not only did he take us on last minute, I ordered on Thursday for Saturday (of Memorial Day weekend), but he also accommodated special conditions I was working with. My friends and I have gone to Matt for guaranteed good food several times -- and each time it's been GREAT. Seriously, I go back for seconds and thirds every damn time. The meat eaters in our group rave about his meat dishes, buy I'm not jealous; his vegetarian options are freaking delicious and nobody does quinoa like this guy. Sorry, mom. The Mac n Cheese was delicious and a huge hit with my kids. If my picky eaters like it, I know it's good! Luckily, we had some leftovers and I made a scramble the next morning with the pulled pork that cured my husband's hangover. That stuff is magic. You have not lived a full life until you have put this meat in your mouth. Seriously, though - Oakland had a wonderful heyday of amazing BBQ, but many of the anchor places that made Oakland BBQ have since gone - Flints, Everett & Jones (Fruitvale), etc. But this is very close to some of that wonderful BBQ that once structured the Oakland landscape. The meats are very well seasoned, smoked, and cooked. There is nothing dry about any of Matt's offerings - all super fork tender, but also not mushy. His sides are also really amazing. Not like an afterthought, but treated with equal love. We've had the Smoke Shack cater a few events and even the vegetarians were super impressed and in love with the side dishes. In fact, he makes a really good vegan quinoa dish that will please everyone in the room. We have had him cater something as small as a party for 20, and as big as 200. So, he can scale to your needs. You will seriously want to have the chance to eat this. read more

His selection was varied and offered a lot of options for those with different kinds of tastes. He delivered all the food to our venue in Alameda personally. He even made us extra Mac n Cheese because we had some fans who had tried it once before. Everyone loved the food and it was buffet style so some went back for seconds and even thirds. I respected his high standard in the quality of his food. He said he was disappointed in the grilled green beans but they were still crispy when they arrived which is how I like them (so to know his standard was even higher than that says something!).
