Beautiful Breakfast Buffet
Rebekah T.

My company wanted to organize a last minute retirement brunch for 50 people and looked to Sunnyside Catering to do the job. There is a reason why they have 5 stars folks and it's because not only do they deliver on taste and quality, they will have your coworkers talking about it for awhile. We had a full breakfast buffet with biscuits, eggs, potatoes, bacon, chicken apple sausage and Canadian bacon. Although the eggs were just described as "scrambled", they were so good that people were raving over them. There was lots of healthy choices like fruit platters and asparagus, as well as homemade biscuits that were to DIE for. There was something for everyone and Ben came early and set up the entire buffet, along with all of the jams, jellies, sauces and condiments that were needed to have a great event. Everyone came together and really enjoyed the brunch, thank you!!

I ordered from SunnySide via ezCater for a team luncheon and am very disappointed. I selected them because of the raving reviews here. I am convinced that all the other reviews are fake because the reviews do not match the quality (or lack thereof) of the food we received. My team even bought extra food because most of what we received was not edible. I haven't written a Yelp review in a while, but this experience brought me out of hibernation. What I ordered: Lunch Option Three × 23 two Proteins: Smoke-Roasted Brisket, Fried Chicken Thighs 3 Biscuit types: Sweet Potato Biscuits, Bacon-Cheddar Biscuits, Gluten-Free Herb Biscuits (GLUTEN-FREE) Vegetable: Sautéed Long Beans, Braised Collards Starch : Mushroom Risotto Salad: Caesar Salad Dessert: Peach Cobbler What we did/did not receive: * The Brisket was the best item. * The fried chicken thighs were boneless strips. Not tasty at all. * We did not receive the Braised Collards * Risotto was not completely cooked. Risotto should never be crunchy. * We did not receive Caesar Salad, but did receive an arugula salad that was decent. * The biscuits were the worst so-called biscuits ever, especially with "biscuits" in their business name. You can't even taste sweet potato. They all tasted like someone was heavy-handed with baking soda or baking powder...and they were hard as rocks. * The peach cobbler I ordered was delivered as apple cobbler - and definitely not edible. Once container was overcooked and the other container was burnt. The crust was so tough you can't even slice it with a knife let alone poke it with a fork. I tried heating up a serving and could not take a bite. I'm so embarrassed and will be scheduling a re-do luncheon for my team to make up for this poor excuse for a meal.

Yup. If you were wondering, it DID taste as good as it looks!

La Farine Bakery - Lemon shortbread (similar to the yummy edges of a lemon bar)

There are glass cases full of breads, cakes, eclairs, tarts and other delicious looking baked goods. On the top of the cases are jars with a variety of cookies to choose from, as well as, one of my favorites, their lemon shortbread bar. The lemon shortbread bar is amazing. They stack the wedges in a large lidded glass jar, each wedge separated with a sheet of white parchment paper. I believe this is one of the hidden gems at La Farine. The shortbread crust Is tender and buttery and hold holds it shape well when you bite into it. The lemon curd is creamy with the right amount of tang, and there is a thin sweet layer of crunch on top of curd that puts this bar over the top. The balance of textures and flavors is perfect. I also highly recommend the chocolate eclairs. Each one is filled with a generous amount of piped whipped cream, a pate choux with good flavor and texture, and topped with a rich, silky layer of chocolate ganache. Overall their prices are reasonable -lemon shortbread bar $3, and chocolate eclair 3.50. I decided to give La Farine four stars because on a previous visit I had a slice of the Moka cake, and was not impressed. It is an attractive and delicious looking cake with lovely pale moka colored frosting surrounding layers of dark chocolate cake, however, the frosting lacked the coffee and chocolate flavor combo that I was looking forward to, and sadly the frosting was more waxy than creamy. That being said, I will definitely be back to search for the next delicious gems at this very lovely bakery on Piedmont Ave.

What makes them even more special is the Filipino-French influence woven throughout their creations. The flavors feel both familiar and unexpected, bringing a unique twist to classic pastries that you won't find just anywhere. Perfect for special occasions or simply when you want to treat yourself!

Jamie W and I decided to pay a visit after our gym workout because we figured we could reward ourselves for breaking a sweat. Arriving in the last hour before closing, we were happily anticipatory that their display case was still well stocked. It was no surprise how gorgeous it was. We had seen the Instagram photos of the visually striking, trompe l'oeil "fruit" pastries (Photo 6). They were indeed mini-works of art with thin, white-chocolate shells that easily crack open to reveal appropriately sweet fillings. We limited ourselves to four items because we didn't want to get carried away...literally. Besides, they weren't cheap. Our priciest item was the $14.50 Peanut shaped like a giant peanut shell and filled with a light peanut butter mousse. There was also a strawberry gelee and a crisp peanut butter wafer that helped reflect the intended PBJ concept. It was just a bit sweet for me. The second item, the $12 Coconut, was my favorite. It was designed to look like a perfectly cracked open coconut with the outer hull made of textured milk chocolate and the "meat" made of white chocolate (Photo 7). The macapuno entremet core reflected co-owner Monique Feybasse's Filipino background. It consisted of coconut whipped cream mousse freckled with macapuno and coconut shavings, and a chocolate coconut sponge cake. The entirety was a true tropical experience. The $8.50 Pistachio Eclair was the most straightforward of the quartet with a golden pate-a-choux shell, pistachio pastry cream with a matcha-like powder, and chopped pistachios (Photo 10). The basic approach taken was enhanced by the quality of the execution. The $4.50 Madeleine was a comparative bargain and quite a treat, providing a soft-crumbed sponge cake covered in a pistachio coating shaped like a seashell (Photo 9). Monique and her husband Paul clearly know what they're doing, having extensive experience in Michelin-starred restaurants like the acclaimed Geranium in Copenhagen. On Sunday afternoon, there was a constant stream of customers, many of them regulars who knew exactly what to order. FOOD - 4 stars...craftsmanship and execution are aces, some satisfy more than others, also a bit pricey AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...crowded so hard to tell beyond the striking displays SERVICE - 4 stars...nice though necessarily transactional TOTAL - 4 stars...definitely an eyeful even more than a mouthful RELATED - Exploring Oakland? Arizmendi Bakery - Organic sourdough thin-crust pizza of the day

Arizmendi Bakery is a Bay Area institution and it absolutely earns the hype…read more The pizza alone is worth the trip -- they only do one flavor a day, but whatever's on the rotation is consistently incredible. Thick, chewy, perfectly charred crust with a sourdough tang that you just don't get from regular pizza dough. Toppings are fresh and generous without being overloaded. Grab a slice (or a whole pie) and you'll understand why people plan their day around what flavor is being served. The sourdough bread is just as good -- crackly crust, open airy crumb, and that deep tangy flavor that tells you it's been properly fermented. This isn't supermarket sourdough; it's the kind of loaf that makes plain butter taste like a gourmet experience. It's a worker-owned cooperative too, which makes supporting them feel even better. Expect a line, especially on weekends, but it moves quickly and is so worth the wait.

Everything tasted fresh, homemade, and made with care. The pizza was simple but satisfying. The crust had a great texture, crispy on the outside with a nice chew inside and the toppings were fresh and flavorful. You can tell they focus on quality ingredients rather than overloading the pizza. The bakery items were just as enjoyable. Freshly baked, not overly sweet, and perfect with a cup of coffee or as a snack to take home. It's the kind of place where it's hard to leave without grabbing a few extra treats. Service was friendly and efficient, and the staff were happy to answer questions about the day's offerings. The vibe is warm, casual, and community-oriented. There's a neighborhood charm to the bakery that makes it feel welcoming and authentic. Overall, a great local spot for fresh pizza, quality baked goods, and a cozy atmosphere. I'll definitely be back to see what seasonal items they have next time.
