Amazing experience! We had gotten married the day prior and arrived at a different restaurant (in whalers village) right after and the service was like we were just other people waiting for a table (10min wait though reservations were made with notes a month in advance). When we arrived at Mama's, the staff was incredible, they had us ready for a table within the minute, the table was perfect facing out towards the ocean, and even a card celebrating the start to our honeymoon and the rest of our lives. This was a 10/10 experience from the start. The experience at Mama's starts with valet parking that's friendly then a beachside walk to the host stand. We had an 4:15 p.m. reservation for our family of four (all I could get!) but totally worth it. I reserved somewhat last-minute and did stalk their site for a few weeks and as they say on the booking side, people cancel so things do open up. Our server was attentive, as was the full restaurant staff. Truly you put something down and they were ready to clear your plate or ask if you needed anything. I was worried this was going to be a hyped visit but everything we had, many of which were staff recommendations, were awesome. We started with a few baskets of bread along with a tomato ginger soup (complimentary starters) that made it clear this was going to be great. Our ordered starter was the ahi sashimi with candied ginger and fresh wasabi, it was a fight for the last piece between our family of four. Normally, I skip the ginger but this was also a 10/10 surprise. We all had different mains, mahi mahi, salmon, more ahi and the Kanapchi and everyone completely finished their plates. When I say everyone this is two adults and two teens who luckily are not picky. We finished with the passion fruit creme brulee. After dinner we walked the beach and were treated to some resting turtles and hawaiian monk seals. Ambiance is classic Hawaii but not over-the-top. I thought the beaches would bring me back to Maui but it may be Mama's Fish House. Cannot recommend enough, plan ahead and book the table! read more

Hands down an amazing experience. We booked our reservation one year in advance to ensure we got a table! We went to celebrate our son's 5th birthday. He ordered the lobster with noodles and ate every bite of lobster, except for the tiny piece I snagged. That lobster was exceptional. We ordered the fish carpaccio, crab cakes, watermelon salad, stuffed fish, a caper fish dish, and the black pearl dessert. They even brought out a candle in our son's coconut ice cream dessert. Everything was great. We already have a reso for our next Maui visit in 2027. On our next visit we are hoping to get the lobster, fish carpaccio and maybe some new items. I came here many years ago with my daughter and knew it was a must if I ever came back to Maui. I was excited to be back celebrating my daughter's birthday. We booked our table well in advance in May for a visit in September. I brought new friends who had never been to Mama's fish house and had hyped up the restaurant to them, based on my past experience. As expected, the property was gorgeous with a beautiful beach area for amazing sunset views. Valet staff were very friendly and efficient. We were seated by a window that had an absolutely gorgeous view. When we arrived at our table, there was a personalized card congratulating us as we were celebrating a birthday and it felt very welcoming. We ordered drinks and appetizers that tasted great. We were all having a great time and loving the ambiance and food. It quickly went downhill as the first roach ran across our table. My friend was able to smash it and we brushed it off thinking "we're on an island, there could be bugs here and there." Then my friend went to take a bite of her food and a roach crawled off of her plate and it was absolutely disgusting. That roach was also smashed and just when we thought it could not get any worse.. my friend had a roach land on her bare shoulder! We looked up and noticed 2 more roaches flying around the light fixture above our heads! At this point I was freaking out and looking around and noticed roaches crawling on the ground around us too! We mentioned to the waiter that a roach had crawled on my friend's plate and he just said okay and offered no type of apology or explanation. It seemed as if they were used to these types of complaints. I was just baffled at how nonchalant the staff were about the roach problem. I could no longer eat my food as I was absolutely disgusted. It's such a shame, as the location, views, and taste of the food is excellent. I would have given this restaurant 5 stars if they did not have a roach infestation. Booked out 3+ months in advance?! I got lucky and snagged a lunch reservation for our anniversary (when in doubt, call the restaurant to see if they have the time you want). This place was absolutely gorgeous: it's a beachfront property open to the public as well and the restaurant itself is huge! It's an open view so it can get a bit hot depending on the time of day. Now the prices....aren't for the faint of heart. But since it was a special occasion, we were willing to experience it. The food and service were wonderful and the portions are actually pretty decent! We were pretty stuffed after our meal but made sure there was nothing left over. I understand the hype now. SO GOOD. My wife DEMANDS we come back within the next year. I guess another Maui vacation? First of all, don't miss it! Once you see the boat turn in and it's only 15 min from the airport. It's all valet parking. The setting of the restaurant is GORGEOUS and right alongside a gorgeous beach where turtles rest. As for service amazing!!! Our server was so attentive and kept suggesting the best drinks even for my pregnant wife. In the summer dress in shorts as it can get hot in there. The food was to die for. The prawns are TO DIE FOR. Our favorite dish and a must order. The macadamia encrusted fish was also flavorful and cooked to perfection. We also had the best raw dish (Ahi Poisson cru) in all of Maui there too. She says all pregnant women request it even if raw fish is frowned upon lol. Wow... Mama's Fish House did not disappoint. This was easily one of the highlights of our Maui trip so far. We made our reservation months ago after my best friend recommended it. First, the atmosphere is incredible. You're right by the ocean, surrounded by beautiful tropical scenery, and the whole place has that perfect Maui feeling. It feels special without being stuffy or pretentious. We could have honestly just sat there for hours taking it all in. And the service was phenomenal. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely friendly, attentive and welcoming. Our server knew the menu inside and out and made great recommendations without ever making us feel rushed. It was the kind of service that makes an already great meal even better. Then came the food: We started with the Trio of Fish Carpaccio with poha berry, Kona salt, olive oil and lemon. It was incredibly fresh and light, and you could really taste the quality of the fish. The Macadamia Nut Crab Cakes with fire and ice relish were absolutely amazing. Crispy, packed with crab, and that relish was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy. For entree, my wife had the Mama's Mahi-Mahi and Ahi Curry with mango chutney, Hana banana, macadamia nuts and sambal. So many flavors going on, but somehow everything worked together perfectly. She honestly didn't want the dish to end. I had had the Hawaiian Kanpachi stuffed with crab and lobster in a macadamia nut crust. This one was next-level. The fish was cooked perfectly, and the crab, lobster and macadamia crust made every bite ridiculously good. Hands down the best fish dish ever. So as we got closer to actually eating here, I was beginning to wonder if the hype would be worth it and if we should cancel. Glad we didn't because it indeed did live up to the hype! Wife and I ate here to celebrate our 10th anniversary. I made the reservation back in March, but from what I keep hearing, is a must to plan way in advance. We ended up ordering two appetizers, Ahi Poisson Cru and HaleakalĀ Beef, splitting a main (stuff Hawaiian Kanpachi), and the Polynesian Black Pearl dessert. All of which were amazing! We had a short wait before our reservation, but the waiting area was comfortable and included some interesting history about Mama's. Once seated, we were greeted with a thoughtful welcome card for our anniversary, which was a really nice touch. There were so many menu options, but thankfully we had done our research and already knew what we wanted. We started with the complimentary asparagus and artichoke soup with bread and butter. It was creamy, savory, and delicious. The poppy seed bread was soft, warm, and fresh, perfect for dipping. Next were the crab cakes, and wow... easily some of the best we've ever had. They were perfectly crusted yet still flaky inside, and the mango relish was a great pairing. The Tomato and Maui Onion Salad was incredibly fresh. The tomatoes and Maui onions really stood out, and the pine nuts and greens added great texture. The aged balsamic and oil were fantastic--we even used some bread to soak up the dressing. It did need a touch of salt for our taste, but overall it was excellent. For our main courses, we ordered the Stuffed Mahi Mahi and the Curry. The Mahi Mahi was very good, though we felt it could use a starch to round out the plate. The curry, however, was the highlight of the night--rich, flavorful, and with a perfect spicy kick. This is probably the hardest reservation to get on the island! We did a walk-in right when they opened and luckily got seated at the bar in ~20 mins. Honest feedback, the food was good, but a tad pricey. We started with a Mai Tai, definitely strong. The curry was so good, a bit spicy but definitely lots of flavors. The banana and macadamia nut added such levels of flavor. The bouillabaisse was one of the recommended dishes and it was seafood, the thin white fish was really good. We never go to Maui without having a dinner at Mama's Fish House. This time, we tried to get reservations two to three months from our vacation but could not seem to get one. Fortunately, we went when it opened and we got in! The history of the fish house is a great story so thought I would share it as it adds to its charm: Floyd and Doris Christensen had an adventurous spirit - they set sail starting in San Diego on a 38-foot ketch (named "Marinero" (Spanish for "sailor")) spending years exploring the islands of the South Pacific where they found their love of the Polynesian culture, food, and hospitality. Settling in Maui they purchased the beachfront property in Kuau Cove to help out a friend who needed financial assistance and is where the current restaurant sits today. During this time, electronic navigation aids did not exist so they navigated with a sextant. Using a marine clock that was calibrated with time signals broadcast by shortwave radio, Doris called out the exact second that was noon. Floyd measured the angle of the sun from the horizon with his sextant. Using formulas they could calculate the Marinero's position within two miles. Oh, they did all this with their son Keith who was 2.5 years old! One of their more adventurous legs, the were in New Caledonia waiting for spring. After leaving, they were few hundred miles out they were hit by a hurricane with wind gusts of 120 MPH. Somehow, they were able able to keep Marinero pointed into the wind and survived! Ok, let's chat about the delicious food and beverages! We both started with complementary homemade bread and some delicious tomato and ginger soap (this was a very unique flavor combination and is delicious!). We also had the crab cakes - highly recommended! Our drinks - two Scorpions highly recommended by the staff were on point! For our main courses my wife had Mama's Ahi and Mahi-Mahi Curry and I had the Mama's Bouillabaisse - both are delicious and fantastic options (check out the pictures and like if you would enjoy them). After all of that, we could not continue for desert. The food, service, location, and entire staff are phenomenal! Don't leave the island without visiting and enjoying the great cuisine! read more

Sometimes you go expecting that it's over hyped. That was not the case. The open air restaurant is beautiful and the service is excellent. Yes it's pricey but also delicious. I've been to a lot of pricey places and felt my meal was not good. Mama's Fish House made me finish my meal where I just couldn't eat dessert that I had planned to order. When I decided to book a babymoon for my husband and I in Maui, the one recommendation I received over and over again was to make a reservation at Mama's. Both appetizers were delicious, but I think we both preferred the wontons slightly. For my entrée, I tried the Kanpachi (local fish) stuffed with crab and lobster while my husband ordered the Mama's bouillabaisse. Again, both dishes were full of flavor and so fresh. That said, a few items felt overpriced for what they were. The macadamia nut crab cakes were good, but nothing particularly memorable, and I don't think two small pieces justified the $34 price tag. The shrimp wontons were also tasty, but at $30, they felt a bit steep. They were recommended by our server, so we decided to give them a try. The standout dish of the evening was the Panang curry. It was absolutely phenomenal and easily our favorite dish of the night. I would come back just for that. One of the dishes included seared ahi tuna, and the kitchen was kind enough to fully cook it for me since I don't eat raw fish. I really appreciated that accommodation. The only hiccup came with another dish that was topped with roe. I didn't realize it when ordering, so I asked a passing server whether it was raw. He wasn't sure and said he would check with our server. When our server came by, I asked again, and her response was simply, "It's fine to eat." That didn't really answer my question, so I wasn't comfortable eating it. Since the roe was on top of the dish, my husband ended up enjoying that one on his own. There are not enough words to share how wonderful and lovely Mamas Fish House is. It's definitely a splurge of a meal but oh my what an experience it is! If you're going to Maui, make it part of your plans! I'd eat beans and rice all week to make Mama's a must go. Our waiter on this second visit was easy to talk to and knowledgeable. We felt like he was a friend by the end of the meal. And the grounds and restaurant building? Just perfectly Hawaii luxury! Get there early to enjoy the grounds. Made reservations early enough that we were able to come here for our wedding anniversary. As always, the food was exceptional. We started with a couple of drinks- a mocktail and a mocktail with rum. I believe it was called the lava flow. We got it at the recommendation of our server, Joey. He made really great recommendations that we took advantage throughout the meal. He recommended the shrimp wontons, also great with the macadamia nut sauce. For the main course I went with the Ahi because it came with coconut rice. Our server, Grandpa Chip (as reflected on the receipt) was the right amount of attentive and sparse, and his recommendations, including for a few ways to prepare certain fish that were outside the confines of the day's menu were much appreciated. The deduction of the star here is based on relative value. While the food was great, there was nothing otherworldly about it, and so $75 for fish that didn't take my taste buds on a Hawaiian roller coaster ride felt rich. Macadamia nut crab crakes: Lots of crab meat and overall very tasty ($35) Trio of fish carpaccio ($36): Probably the biggest miss of the night. Fish was fresh, but the olive flavors were quite overpowering that that the flavors of the fish were too subtle. Antarctic toothfish ($70): Similar to Chilean sea bass, but meatier. To be fair, I've just started getting into fish, but the Kanpachi stuffed with crab and lobster was the stuff of dreams. Warning! This is a LONG review but it's an amazing place and anything shorter just didn't seem right. I planned a Maui vacation for our 25th anniversary. A friend of mine recommended that we visit Mama's Fish House while we were there. I made the reservation 4 months in advance and had to select a late seating on a date that wasn't the exact one that I wanted due to limited availability. At that point I was just happy that we had a reservation at all. Fast forward 4 months to the day before our reservation and landfall of Hurricane Lala. We received a message from Mama's, regretfully informing us that all reservations were being canceled due to the storm. They asked that we call back the next day to see if they could reschedule. I took a shot but figured it was a long one. To my suprise, Mama's responded and advised that they would be able to seat us 2 days later, ON our anniversary night. And the time they offered was PRIME sunset watching/dinner time!! We arrived 20 minutes before our reservation and were amazed by the absolutely BEAUTIFUL setting right on the beach! And as if that wasn't enough, a huge Sea Turtle climbed up on beach while we were there...MAGICAL!! When we entered the restaurant it was just as magical on the inside as it was on the outside. If I tried to describe the ambiance there is no way I could possibly do it justice so I won't even try. Just know that it is absolutely WONDERFUL! We were seated at a perfect ocean view table adorned with a personalized note, welcoming us by name and congradulating us on our anniversary! I loved everything about our experience here but allow me to elaborate. I had tried coming here 3 times. Each time I tried booking months in advance and was unable to reserve a spot. I thought "how good can this place be?" Answer: Incredible We finally got a rezzie after booking 8 months out and this place did not disappoint. First of all you're greeted with a valet and a private beach. Off to a great start already. The restaurant is gorgeous and the attention to detail with the atmosphere is apparent in every aspect of the establishment. Yet somehow the highlight is the food. Dear God, the food. I'm not even a huge fish person but every single fish we ordered was the best version of that fish we had ever tasted by a large margin. We got ahi sashimi, crab rangoons, and the curry as our meals. It felt like seeing color for the first time eating these dishes. I've honestly never tasted fish that was this delicious. The only unfortunate thing about this place is now that I know its reputation is not unwarranted I need to budget and extra $500 for my Maui trips just so I can eat here. If you ever get the chance to come try the food here do it. You will not regret it. read more

I've always heard about Mamas Fish House and was super excited when I scored a reservation two months before our visit. Parking is valet only and the grounds surrounding the restaurant are gorgeous with access to a small public beach. Loved that the fish was so fresh and our waitress was so knowledgeable about the menu items. They also have a fun craft for the kids instead of your regular coloring page. The only reason I gave it four stars was the food wasn't as amazing as I was expecting. It was super fresh but flavor was ok. The crab cake app was a 10/10 however the main courses were in line with other restaurants we at on Maui. read more

This is the place to go. If you get a reservation, don't cancel it or you will miss a great food experience. We ordered the win ton shrimp, the crusted mahi mahi stuffed with crab and lobster, and the ahi. All were excellent and delicious. For dessert we ordered the black pearl, coffee ice cream and the illikoi cream brûlée. They were also delicious. It is truly a wonderful dining experience. Mama's is our favorite restaurant on Maui and I'd argue it's among the best in Hawaii. The setting is idyllic, service is impeccable, and the food is outstanding. We've eaten here multiple times over the years while on vacation. So when we decided to celebrate our 20th anniversary here making a reservation at Mama's was the first thing I did after booking the flight. It's the perfect spot for a romantic dinner and the personalized anniversary card waiting for us on the table was a nice touch. Our server Stephanie took great care of us, described all the fresh catch options in delicious detail, and made sure everything went well. From our salads with fresh local greens, tomatoes, and onions, through the perfectly prepared fish entrees everything was wonderful. Everyone we talked to before visiting Maui said we needed to try mamas fish house and I am so happy we did! Everything was amazing, from the service and of course the food! The place is beautiful with just outside the restaurant you can see the beach and great for photos. The best dining experience ever! The parking is a little bit confusing, but it's complementary valet. We went at night and the lights were beautiful, and it felt very tropical. They started us off with complementary bread and soup. Both were amazing. We had the best waiter who provided excellent service. I tried them mai tai, which I thought was just OK. We had the papaya grilled beef appetizer. The meat was grilled perfectly and was so flavorful and tender. For our mains , we got the kanpachi and the curry. Both were so tasty. The stuffed kanpachi was flaky and buttery with great veggies and rice. The curry was Liverpool and came with several sauces to make the flavors stand out even more. For dessert, we got the chocolate pie. Our waiter said that the pro was a little overrated. In retrospect, I wish I had tried the pearl. The chocolate pie was just OK. Overall, an amazing experience and I highly recommend recommended to everyone! Food is very expensive in Maui so comparatively, this is not that much more than most food there. read more

This was one of the highlights of our Maui trip n is easily one of the most unforgettable experiences in our lives... INSANE Entrees Hawaiian Kanpachi: the dish that everyone talks about! If I could relive my first bite. Flaky fresh fish with an incredible umami creamy sauce and IT'S STUFFED WITH LUSCIOUS CRAB AND LOBSTA. The crab and lobster filling was so moist and reminds you of the inside of the moistest crab cake. The slight crunch from the mac nut crust. And veggies were cooked well. Wow. Opakapaka, mahi mahi, and ahi curry: YUMMMM. Extremely flavorful and well cooked and paired so perfectly with their side dishes, specifically the banana. The curry was also adjusted for shrimp allergy. Very creamy yet light at the same time. I think this might be my first fish curry n it was great. Apps: Ahi Poisson Cru: light, fresh, fatty ahi but not too fatty which I thought was perfect as it compliments the refreshingness of the dish, and the coconut was not overpowering Seared ahi sashimi: this was some of my friends' fav dish but it didn't stand out to me because it was as good as most seared ahi I had. LOVE THE PINNEAPPLE Fish Collars: oh my fat buttery melt in your mouth fish want to suck off the bone and maybe eat the entire collar fish with the slight crisp omg Mac Nut Crab Cakes: THE best crab cake I've ever had in my lil life. MOST AND FILLED WITH CRAB. most crab cakes have too much filling BUT THE WAS CRAB WAS CLEARLY THE TOPIC OF THIS CAKE. Currently rolling my eyes back. And of course mac nut makes the best crust. The mango relish was divine opakapaka sashimi: the truffle tamari! life changing We thought we were full but desserts...holy mama. I have to say the desserts weren't overwhelmingly sweet and didn't make me feel disgustingly full. Kuau Chocolate Pie: ADDICTIVE. Rich choclate yet with caramel, which I usually don't like but it made the pie almost like a TRUFFLE. And teh dang crust was amazing Lilikoi Creme Brulee: when in hawaii Coconut Mango Chiffon Cake: SO LIGHT AND AIRY AND MAKES YOU FALL IN LOVE WITH MANGO AGAIN. I need this as my wedding cake Hana Bana Mac Nut Crisp: AHHHH BASICALLY A HOT BANANA PIE ALA MODE. chills, so good Island Fruit Sorbet and house ice cream: refreshing! Also the most popular cocktail, Pua Hana, we got was fire. Not too strong and the ginger sugar rim was the best Shoutout to our serve Mike!!! He made this one of the best n memorable dining experiences. He treated us like guests at his own dining table. Also there's valet parking there.
