I was super excited to try here based on the raving reviews I've heard. But I was left feeling a bit disappointed... Decided to order online since we heard the wait could get long. Our group ordered a little bit of everything - all with garlic noodles as the side since it seemed to very popular based on the reviews. We went with the mochiko chicken (animal style), spicy ahi poke, and pork belly. Mochicko chicken was good, but some pieces were cold and fatty which wasn't very pleasant. The animal style sauce was really tasty, and didn't overpower the chicken, it complimented the plate well! The noodles weren't very garlicky at all, definitely felt it was lacking flavor. Poke was good, but the pieces of fish were in pretty large chunks. Lastly, the pork belly was just okay. As a local, I think this place is a good introduction for tourists to get a taste of local flavors. But definitely hit up some other local spots even Zippy's for comparison. Maybe I just went on a off day. To end off on a positive note they do offer a few vegetarian and vegan options!
Tin Roof was a solid plate lunch spot near the airport. I got the mochiko chicken with garlic noodles, which was a $4 upcharge and brought the plate to around $19. A little pricey for a plate lunch, but I've heard so many good things about this place and Chef Simeon, so I didn't mind. The mochiko chicken was the highlight. Chicken was moist and fried well and the garlic aioli + scallion ginger sauce was excellent. The garlic noodles were just "okay". Pretty much plain noodles without veggies, any garlic pieces or anything else for texture, so I wouldn't pay the extra $4 for them again. We also got a few sides of the potato mac salad which was really good. Overall the food was above average and I'd come back if I was in the area. Next time I'd probably try the spicy chicken sandwich or fish sandwich because both looked good in the pics other ppl posted
We came here after our Road to Hana trip. We ordered online, and the food was packed up and ready to go when we arrived (takeout only restaurant). We ordered the Kale Salad, Dry Mein, Mochiko Chicken, and Garlic Shrimp with Garlic Noodles. The Dry Mein (5/5) was the star of the show and to die for. The broth that it came with was really flavorful, and the noodles were nice and chewy. This is a must-try, and I'm craving it again as I write this review. The Kale Salad (5/5) was fresh, light, and refreshing. I would recommend this as well. The Mochiko Chicken (4/5) was solid, with furikake cracker bits that added a nice crunch and made it fun to eat. The Garlic Shrimp (3/5) was a bit mid, but the Garlic Noodles (5/5) were excellent, and I would order them again.
Nice place to stop and get food after you arrive from the airport but it's a to go only place, so beware. We got the pork belly kau kau, mochiko chicken, chop steak, ginger chicken, beet box and kale salad. The line was long so we placed our online order while waiting. It said our order was ready about 25 min before it actually was. It's hard to hear the woman calling out names and it wasn't clear if you ordered online you would get a text. Realized after we had left that we never got the mochiko chicken. The garlic noodles and ginger chicken were pretty bland. The pork belly was on the tougher side. At least they had some veg options for my husband but both items had a lot of kale so he should have just gotten one. I'm bummed about missing out on the chicken!
If there's one place you have to try when you go to Maui, let it be TIN ROOF. Everything we got was amazing! I do recommend ordering online before driving there to avoid the wait. there were no tables and chairs, everything is to go
Visited on a Tuesday around 4:30pm, short line about 2 other groups ahead of me, waited maybe 5 minutes to order since there were a few orders being picked up and staff was also packing up finished orders. Food: Garlic Shrimp Rice Plate - came with 7 fairly large pieces of shrimp in shell coated in a delicious garlic sauce, we ordered with steamed brown rice which was a solid base and comes with a few pieces of salted cabbage adding a salty crunch Garlic noodles - regular size which was about a 6oz portion of noodles, nice toasted garlic flavor, lightly seasoned. Noodles were thin and cooked a tad al dente so they had a slight bite. Thoroughly enjoyed, would upgrade to garlic noodles with the garlic shrimp tin tin plate next time. Service was okay, ordered at the register and input a phone number so team can text you when order is ready to pick up which took about 10min. Team packed a few napkins and forks in our togo bag. Parking lot is decent size and we were able to park easily. Overall enjoyed Tin Roof, a no frills takeout only spot that's doing plate lunches well.
So delicious and hungry, forgot to take pictures. We tried the friend blue marlin bowl. The fish was coated in panko breading. It came on rice and had some greens. The store front soooo small. You ordered and paid at the doorway. They took your name and called out when order was ready. You walk up to the same doorway to pickup food. You just sneak in between paying customers to get your food. Will definitely be back. It's close to the airport and Costco.
Amazing stop for food straight from the airport! Pro tip, order ahead online as the wait to order can get pretty long. There aren't any places to sit, so be ready to just grab your food and go somewhere else to eat (perfect for eating on the beach). We ordered the broth (5/5, sooo flavorful), spicy ahi poke with garlic noodles (5/5, the ahi was fresh, and the garlic noodles are soooo good), and mochiko chicken with rice (5/5, wish we had subbed the rice for garlic noodles too, but the chicken was perfectly juicy and crispy). Perfect first meal right after a long flight!
This little whole in the way was sooo good!! I got the chicken, with the garlic noodles.... Gurllllll let me tell you, BOMB. I didn't even finish the entire thing I had left overs and ate it for dinner. The bowl was a pretty decent size, and the bed of noodles was delicious also! They were soo quick considering how many ppl were waiting for their food order. Definitely recommend this place. Also didn't think it was overly expensive.
Heard allllll the hype and it did NOT disappoint! Came here right after my flight around 11-11:30am, line wasn't too long and the wait was worth. Wanted 2 tins but they were sold out of poke by noon. Got the Mochiko Chicken with Mac salad on the side and straight fire! Mochiko chicken was just sooooo good and the arare crackers added the most amazing texture to it. It had great flavor and Mac salad complimented it so well. I absolutely would love to come back and try more, very straightforward and you order at the window. Lines could be longer and might be hard to find parking but the food is absolutely worth it, I highly recommend! On my receipt I think it said Maggie is the employee that helped us, she gave out amazing service!!
Tin Roof is definitely a must-visit in Maui! I ordered the Mochiko Chicken with rice, which was my favorite of the two dishes. It was very tasty, and the texture of the chicken was amazing. I would definitely order this again. I also ordered the pork belly with garlic noodles. The garlic noodles were flavorful and delicious. The pork belly was more on the chewy side rather than crispy, but it paired really well with the garlic noodles. I would definitely order both dishes again! The wait was only about 10 minutes, and the line moved quickly, so the wait wasn't bad at all. Great food, quick service, and definitely worth checking out!
I really wanted to love this place because I loved Sheldon on Top Chef. but...unfortunately...everything I tried was terrible. I tried teh Kau Kau Tin with pork belly and garlic noodles, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and a small mac salad. Generally, the Kau Kau Tin and the mac salad were utterly bland. The mac salad tasted of nothing. The garlic noodles in the Kau Kau tin also lacked flavor. The garlic noodle had the slightest of garlic taste. The pork belly was perfectly cooked and was the best part of the Kau Kau tin and I made sure to make each every piece of that. The Spicy Chicken sandwich was the most disappointing item I tried. The chicken patty was just a VERY FATTY piece of fried chicken. It was terrible. The texture shock alone from biting through crispy crust to gelatinous fat was shocking. But then, the chicken was not seasoned. It was a textural monstrosity that had no flavor. All in all, I'm glad I tried it. I will definitely try it again when back on the island in hopes that this was just a bad day.
Tin roof was my fav meal on Maui. We tried the mochiko chicken with garlic noodles, spicy chicken sandwich animal style (with pork belly and fried egg) and the clam special with Portuguese sausage. My fav was the chicken sandwich and it was only $13! Such a steal IMO and it was loaded up, so filling!!! We devoured all the food after a long day on the road to Hana. We ordered online in advance so the wait wasn't too bad and it was a quick and easy pick up
TIKI DAVE and family loves TIN ROOF MAUI! While our cruise ship was in port, we stopped in after I did some serious research to settle upom Tin Roof and boy were we glad! Holy smokes, that Mochicko Chicken [Hawaiian-style fried chicken made by marinating bite-sized chicken pieces in a sweet and savory soy-garlic batter featuring mochiko (sweet rice flour) before deep-frying] is the bomb! Super crispy bits, amazing flavor, served over garlic noodles...man alive, if you are in Maui and don't grab takeout here, you may as well not go to Maui. It is takeout only and my wife didn't want fried food so she ordered something from the Mexican joint across the parking lot. Since she ordered food there, we figured it'd be ok to eat our heavenly chicken dishes there....NOPE; we were asked to leave. BOO. So we finished, well, the kids finished on the way to nearby Kanaha Beach Park and I finished mine there under the airport and within sight of our ship. It really is a lovely beach. Ordered a couple trays of meats, rice, and a few containers of Mac salad from here... Pros- friendly and helpful staff. Meats (hurricane chicken and the fried pork) were very tasty! Mac salad too. Prices also were reasonable. I would order from here again. Cons- I thought I ordered two large containers of Mac salad, but their idea of large and mine were different! Luckily I was able to order a third on the spot! Oh, also, I did preorder, but if I hadn't... I suppose another con would be that the line would have been crazy long! read more

We had high hopes after seeing videos, reading reviews, and being a huge fan of Sheldon from Top Chef. Unfortunately we didn't get anything close to what we expected You will be greeted with a line. It does move fairly quickly. There isn't any shade so keep that in mind The person working the window was friendly and was doing their best to keep it moving. I ordered the garlic shrimp with garlic noodles and Mac salad. We also ordered a spicy chicken sandwich. After a brief wait we got our food. The moment was here! We were instantly like whhhhhhaaaaat is going on. My shrimp were mealy and way overcooked. The Mac salad was bland and flavorless. The spicy chicken sandwich was so fatty that I took one bite and was done. It was slimy in texture The one thing I did love was the salted cabbage. Had I known I would have ordered a full plate of it. After all of the hype and expectations I would not be in any hurry to come back after our initial experience. 5 mins away from the airport. Ordered online and was ready once I arrived. Picked up to enjoy at the airport before I departure flight and it hit the spot. Comfort food / better than anything we could get at the airport. The mochiko chicken with brown rice / cabbage was great and the kids enjoyed the garlic noodles. Will ask for chilli oil next time if they have it to add a kick of flavors. Will do this again upon arrival for a quick bite and upon departure on travel day. Highly recommend for takeout read more

After many trips to Maui we finally visited tin roof. I did leave my trip wondering why we had not gone there sooner. We order the popular mochiko chicken, the pork belly dish, fish sandwich, and garlic noodles. The mochiko chicken was well flavored and I can't say it enough the meat was juicy as well as the pork belly. The star of the order was the fish sandwich. I don't usually have high hopes for fish sandwiches but the patty was juicy and the batter was just right and crunchy. The house made tartar sauce was really good and didn't taste artificial. I'm a man who frequents a filet o fish from McDonald's! Service was A1! We had left and noticed we had not been packed the fish sandwich and they accommodated for it right away when I drove back. Hassle free. Very welcoming and helpful. read more

Tin Roof has been a staple of the island for years and Chef Sheldon has done a great job representing island culture with his comforting meals and great service from the team. I got the mochiko chicken on the salad and it was such a hearty serving I couldn't finish it (definitely shareable). Mac salad is great too. It's a pickup place so no place to sit down so definitely be ready to take your food to go and enjoy it in a park or a nearby beach! There are a few places somewhat close by if you have a car. Lines can get long but order online and pickup is the right way to be able to get your food quickly.... I was able to get my order right away! read more
Tin Roof has been hyper popular lately for tourist and locals alike. I had many friends recommend this place to me so we had to try it. We ordered: Mochoco Chicken, Dry Mein and Saimen. The service was normal, there was no pave to eat inside you so order at a fake out window. It was hot and no place to sit down and eat. You had to buy and eat inside your car or take it somewhere else. Chicken Mochoco was super flavorful and crispy. I loved the ingredients they had and they fried their chicken. The sauce was a little saucy and I would have gotten rice instead of garlic noodles which were underwhelming. Overall 4/5 for chicken mochoko. The dry mein and Saimen were mid. Not great. Not terrible but I would order something else. It was also expensive for those two dishes and so I would appropriately price those and the food was generic with those two ordered. Would I return, if I was hungry and in the area the Mochoco Chicken was good. But I didn't have any time to try anybting else. The Saimen and Dry Mein were Gm very very generic. So that's why I gave it a 5 stars. I know to go orders is popular in Maui and it's more expensive to open a store so I would recommend investing in one where people can really enjoy your food. I think the ratings already speak for themselves- however I feel a need to share how truly delicious this food was! We stopped by Tin Roof on our way to the airport. We got there right when it opened so the line was short. The food only took about 10 minutes before it was ready. I had the Poke- Spicy Ahi with Rice and my partner had the Mochiko Chicken. The Poke was absolutely divine. Buttery, fresh, melt in your mouth Ahi with a flavorful creamy spicy sauce. The Chicken was also delicious. Both came with very generous portions. Highly recommend this for a quick, high-quality meal! read more
Tin Roof came highly recommended by several locals, so it quickly made its way onto our Maui food list. Whenever residents consistently point visitors toward a restaurant, expectations naturally get pretty high, and we were excited to see what all the buzz was about. We ordered two of their most popular dishes: the mochiko chicken and the crispy pork. Both were prepared well, tasted fresh, and featured quality ingredients. The mochiko chicken was tender with a nice balance of sweet and savory flavors, while the crispy pork was satisfying and well-executed. That said, while everything was good, neither dish really stood out as exceptional. Given the enthusiastic recommendations and the restaurant's reputation, I was expecting something a little more memorable. The food was enjoyable and certainly worth trying, but it wasn't a meal that left us talking about it for the rest of the trip. Overall, Tin Roof serves fresh, flavorful food and I can understand why it's a local favorite for a quick meal. While it didn't quite live up to the hype for me personally, I'm still glad we stopped by and gave it a try. read more

First stop after landing at the airport. Also nearby the airport. To-go only. Missed the lunch rush so we walked right up. We got the fish sandwich which is like an elevated fish-o-fillet. The fish was crispy yet moist inside. We got the mochiko chicken and subbed the rice with garlic noodles and made it animal style. Really tasty! Took it to eat nearby at Kanaha beach park which is 5 min away and you get ocean views and they have a picnic table too. You can also order ahead. Staff was friendly. read more
Everywhere on Yelp and Reddit, people were saying this was a MUST when coming to Maui -- whether if it's stopping by after they landed or grabbing a plate before they took off, this was the place to be. Thank goodness, they have online ordering because it saves so much time and hassle. You can even order in advance for the next day! They're pretty on the dot when it comes to the time but if you do arrive earlier than your pick-up time, let them know so that they can get it started. They supposedly send a text when your food is ready but I think it's best to wait nearby when it's about that time to hear them call your name out I wanted to try a little bit of everything: Pork Belly Plate, Spicy Ahi Poke w/ Kale Salad, Fish Sando, and a side of Mac Salad. We loved every bite but my favorite would have to be the Spicy Ahi Poke; big chunks with a bite of freshness every time. The portions were bigger than we expected and we left feeling STUFFED. I wish we could of came back because there's still more on their menu I'd like to try out next time! They are strictly take-out so it's best to go to a nearby park after grabbing your food. read more
Went to the local favorite Tim roof around noon on a Thursday. There was a line out the door but they take orders fast and are very friendly! People seemed excited for their food and willing to wait. It was a nice vibe. As a vegetarian, I was able to request the Garlic noodles vegetarian. The kale salad comes vegan. The wait for the food was maybe 15-20 minutes. We took the takeout to a nearby beach to picnic. The kale salad was pretty good, I would have wanted more dressing. The garlic noodles were tasty! This is takeout only. There are no tables to sit and eat. Its in a plaza with parking. Check out the cute family owned gallery next door for artsy gifts/souvenirs while you wait. read more
Our first meal in Maui had to be here from all the videos I've seen on social media. Garlic noodles were amazing! Paired with their mochiko chicken and it makes the perfect plate. We ordered regular portion sizes of various items to try and this all came out to about $45 which isn't too bad. They get pretty crowded so try and time it before or after peak hours, and no tables so most either take it togo or eat on their cars. It's right across the street from costco so we took our food to the food court there read more

Back again visiting from Oahu and Tin Roof is always a MUST. This time we got the cold chukka noodles, mini garlic shrimp, mini pork belly, and a strip steak (not pictured). Located conveniently by the airport. So if you are just arriving here, definitely make a stop. Highly recommend ordering online to pick up. There will be a line. No dining area. Thats why we are in the car. LOL Our favorite thing to eat is the mochiko chicken. We ordered it with the garlic noodles. Soooo good. That was definitely my favorite of what we ordered. I definitely enjoyed the pork belly. But you gotta eat it fast because it's not as tender when it gets cold. The fat chow funn was a little rubbery. mochiko chicken ($14) - we added garlic noodles for $4 extra and it was a great decision - i like how the noodles werent clumped together and were perfectly garlicky - the chicken was absolutely DELECTABLE; while the exterior was extremely crunchy and well fried, the interior was still succulent - not too oily and not overdone - a standout dish immediately after one bite pork belly ($14) - this is unfortunately a pork belly that went wrong in every aspect - the meat was just so so dry, probably the driest pork belly ive ever had in my life, so dry i had a hard time biting and chewing through - not only was it overcooked but it also wasn't crispy enough; it was crunchy from the fact that it was overcooked and it lacked any sort of flavor - the vegetables on the side felt like extra and unnecessary side characters that didn't add or enhance the dish in any way rating: 3.8/5 - high 3 mainly driven by the impeccable chicken and below 4 because they butchered the pork belly even though it isn't a hard dish to begin with given that it has a lot of fat and flavor - the price is crazily affordable though, probably the cheapest meal we've had on maui - no ambiance; it's a take out place located within a plaza - welcoming service and quick IG: @nom.noms.only read more
Tip: Get the combo box with mochiko chicken and sub the rice out for garlic noodles. Skip the boiled egg (standard and not jammy). Also, go early or on a weekday to skip the lines. Service was quick and easy but we went early in the morning right after landing at the airport. Some of the best plate lunch we had on the island! First off--if you're going to Tin Roof, plan ahead! Preferably call in your order rather than arriving and standing in line, as this place is popular (with good reason!) and it can take a while to get through the line just to order with an additional wait for food. I also felt the food took a long time to arrive, so factor that in as well. With one window for both order and pickup, this can create some confusion. Also keep in mind that there is no seating inside or outside. Plan to take it home with you or to a picnic. Or, do what we did and eat it in your car before driving up to Haleakala! I've gotten into the habit of marking restaurants on Maps when I read a story about it that makes me want to go. So when we were in Kahului on a port day from our cruise ship, I noticed the 'Want to Go' sticker on Tin Roof Maui, with a label of 'Filipino owned', and decided to take our party of four there for lunch. Didn't really know what to expect, but it turned out well. It is located about 1.5 miles from the Maui Mall Village (which itself is within walking distance from the cruise port). The Lyft cost about $15, and we were dropped off at the small strip mall, which had available parking. The restaurant is strictly walk-up. Once you place your order and pay (via Toast), they will call out your name once done. There is no place to eat anywhere close by (there are actually clear signage by other businesses to not eat anywhere near them). Thinking the best bet would be to eat in your car, since the restaurant does provide utensils and napkins. That wasn't an option for us, so after the 15 minutes when we got our food, we took an Uber to the nearby Botanical garden which had shaded picnic tables. As for the food, we all enjoyed it. One of the common toppings on the dishes, were small triangular arare rice crackers. All of us really liked it, especially for the prices paid. Mochiko Chicken ($14) - with white rice. a great dish. The dark meat chicken had a great crunch from the rice flour, and was really well flavored with a sweet glaze. Gonna have to try using Mochiko as a coating for chicken at home. Poke Bowl ($20) - hapa (half brown/half white). This had a large amount of great quality ahi tuna, well marinated. The hapa was actually brown rice and white rice cooked together (rather than cooked separately and then mixed)...the white rice was quite mealy because of it. Chefs Special of Bulgogi with white rice ($17) - the beef was thickly sliced, the marinade was delicious. It came with a good macaroni salad, and a decent cucumber kimchi. Small Beet Box ($8) - this was really loved, with kale and flash fried beets. A great vegetarian dish and the small size doesn't indicate how much food is in it. Yeah, I wish we could have eaten it right away since I'm sure the quality degraded a little as we were trying to find a place to eat it. But looking back, it's obvious not having a sit-down place does help with keeping costs down. And for local islanders who can quickly bring this home to eat together, I can see why Tin Roof (named for the sound of rain hitting a tin roof in Hilo Hawaii) is so popular. read more
Heard so many great things about tin roof and how it's a must stop after you land. I was starving after my flight and this was exactly what I needed to get into the spirit. The mochiko chicken is so flavorful and crunchy, and the cabbage that came with it is refreshing. The chicken is juicy and there's rice crackers for an extra crunch to the dish. This is one of the few places I would want to go back multiple times on my trip. They don't let you stand or sit near the restaurant but we ordered coffee at a nearby shop (Maui coffee roasters) and ate it outside while sipping on their iced latte. Came by for lunch after reading a few reviews online. We were a little late for lunch so there was no line and we got our food quickly. Prices are reasonable and the staff was friendly. There is no seating. 1) Kale salad - delicious and would recommend, 5/5 2) Mochiko chicken - seems like one of their most popular dishes - it was yum but a little dry for me, 4/5. Delicious! Stopped by because it's 5 minutes from the airport. The Molokai chicken is a must. It's super juicy and unique, and the crunchy bits are the best. We got it with rice but you could choose noodles or kale salad as an upcharge. We got garlic noodles with a 6 minute egg and the noodles were cooked perfectly. The Mac salad on the side was good but standard. We waited for about 15 minutes so I would suggest ordering online if possible! read more

Has anyone tried taking food from here on a flight? Does it get through security without any issues?
My husband and I took Tin Roof's Mochiko chicken dinners on board a flight from Maui to Oahu this past March 2024 on Hawaiian Airlines with no problem. No issue with security. We were the envy of the people on our flight. ;)
What is "Animal style" on the Mochiko chicken? Does it cost extra?
Chicken topped with garlic aioli and scallion ginger sauce, rice has sweet soy and furikake added, not sure if it costs extra

Yes! My mom is gluten free and was able to eat with us! Just ask their options and they'll let you know.

You will have to wait for them to call your name when its ready. The short ribs are really good. The noodles too!

Is this ony a carryout place?
Yes. There are some benches outside to sit while you wait or if you want to eat there. It's pretty small so I eat it in the car.

Do you deliver to the Kahului Airport? We're coming in on a flight from the mainland and connecting to an Inter-island flight. Since you don't have a dining room, we thought we could just order some of your Ono Grindz and eat at the airport.
Tin Roof is take out only. I don't think Uber Eats or anything like that delivers. If your layover is long enough you can probably catch an Uber/Lyft to the restaurant and back for relatively inexpensive. Just make sure you allow enough time because…
I am traveling with 2 kids, and want to try the food here. Is there a spot where we can take the food and eat at like a picnic table nearby?
There weren't any tables or chairs available inside, outside nor near by to sit on. We ended up taking our food back to our condo.
Is the mochiko chicken gluten free?
It is not gluten free. Chop Steak & Garlic Shrimp can be made gluten free upon request. Our Kale Salad comes gluten free.
Do they take reservations?
We don't take reservations. We are a takeout restaurant, we have no dining space.

Are you open on Thanksgiving?
We will be closed on Thanksgiving day and reopen the day after, Friday.

Aloha Sonnia. We have one vegan item on our menu, that would be the Kale salad. Fresh local kale dressed in a housemade maui onion dressing, kimchi roasted peanuts, maui onion potato chips, and dried cranberries.
Since it doesn't look like there's much seating inside, any suggestions where we can eat our lunch?
We honestly took it across the street and ate at the Costco dining area. It was easy and plenty of available seating.
Gluten free options?
Yes. We can do Chop Steak & Garlic Shrimp gluten free upon request. Our kale salad also comes gluten free already.
