I really wanted to love this place because I loved Sheldon on Top Chef. but...unfortunately...everything I tried was terrible. I tried teh Kau Kau Tin with pork belly and garlic noodles, the Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and a small mac salad. Generally, the Kau Kau Tin and the mac salad were utterly bland. The mac salad tasted of nothing. The garlic noodles in the Kau Kau tin also lacked flavor. The garlic noodle had the slightest of garlic taste. The pork belly was perfectly cooked and was the best part of the Kau Kau tin and I made sure to make each every piece of that. The Spicy Chicken sandwich was the most disappointing item I tried. The chicken patty was just a VERY FATTY piece of fried chicken. It was terrible. The texture shock alone from biting through crispy crust to gelatinous fat was shocking. But then, the chicken was not seasoned. It was a textural monstrosity that had no flavor. All in all, I'm glad I tried it. We had high hopes after seeing videos, reading reviews, and being a huge fan of Sheldon from Top Chef. Unfortunately we didn't get anything close to what we expected You will be greeted with a line. It does move fairly quickly. There isn't any shade so keep that in mind The person working the window was friendly and was doing their best to keep it moving. I got the mochiko chicken on the salad and it was such a hearty serving I couldn't finish it (definitely shareable). Mac salad is great too. Tin Roof has been hyper popular lately for tourist and locals alike. I had many friends recommend this place to me so we had to try it. We ordered: Mochoco Chicken, Dry Mein and Saimen. The service was normal, there was no pave to eat inside you so order at a fake out window. It was hot and no place to sit down and eat. You had to buy and eat inside your car or take it somewhere else. Chicken Mochoco was super flavorful and crispy. I loved the ingredients they had and they fried their chicken. The sauce was a little saucy and I would have gotten rice instead of garlic noodles which were underwhelming. Overall 4/5 for chicken mochoko. The dry mein and Saimen were mid. Not great. Not terrible but I would order something else. It was also expensive for those two dishes and so I would appropriately price those and the food was generic with those two ordered. Would I return, if I was hungry and in the area the Mochoco Chicken was good. But I didn't have any time to try anybting else. The Saimen and Dry Mein were Gm very very generic. So that's why I gave it a 5 stars. I know to go orders is popular in Maui and it's more expensive to open a store so I would recommend investing in one where people can really enjoy your food. Went to the local favorite Tim roof around noon on a Thursday. There was a line out the door but they take orders fast and are very friendly! People seemed excited for their food and willing to wait. It was a nice vibe. As a vegetarian, I was able to request the Garlic noodles vegetarian. The kale salad comes vegan. The wait for the food was maybe 15-20 minutes. Everywhere on Yelp and Reddit, people were saying this was a MUST when coming to Maui -- whether if it's stopping by after they landed or grabbing a plate before they took off, this was the place to be. Thank goodness, they have online ordering because it saves so much time and hassle. You can even order in advance for the next day! They're pretty on the dot when it comes to the time but if you do arrive earlier than your pick-up time, let them know so that they can get it started. They supposedly send a text when your food is ready but I think it's best to wait nearby when it's about that time to hear them call your name out I wanted to try a little bit of everything: Pork Belly Plate, Spicy Ahi Poke w/ Kale Salad, Fish Sando, and a side of Mac Salad. Our first meal in Maui had to be here from all the videos I've seen on social media. Garlic noodles were amazing! Paired with their mochiko chicken and it makes the perfect plate. We ordered regular portion sizes of various items to try and this all came out to about $45 which isn't too bad. Thick and wide cut rice noodles with green onions, this makes a nice side dish but the serving size is small if you order just for lunch. The Mochiko chicken was spot on with a great sauce and flavor. Not your typical grindz place where you get huge servings you can feed 2 with a plate lunch but more of a refined take on plate lunch food. Found this little gem while exploring Kuhuli after exploring Kehei on Maui, simple menu but complex in flavors. Staff is super friendly and quite busy filling orders. You can walk up and order or go online and order both for pick up. The Mochicko chicken is amazing, tender thigh meat cooked with a sweet rice batter. So delicious you want more. Came with rice and cabbage bacon, the cabbage had a light dressing that I could not figure out but was refreshing and complimented the Michicko chicken. The Chicken Mondu was similar to a fried wonton with moist marinated chicken inside, the pork was cooked perfectly moist and full of flavors in a brown gravy. Came with rice, kimchi and Mac salad. Would love to go back and try a few more of their dishes. Don't panic if you see a line, that's normal because the food is amazing reasonable and prepared with passion. The mochiko chicken is so flavorful and crunchy, and the cabbage that came with it is refreshing. The chicken is juicy and there's rice crackers for an extra crunch to the dish. This is one of the few places I would want to go back multiple times on my trip. I've gotten into the habit of marking restaurants on Maps when I read a story about it that makes me want to go. So when we were in Kahului on a port day from our cruise ship, I noticed the 'Want to Go' sticker on Tin Roof Maui, with a label of 'Filipino owned', and decided to take our party of four there for lunch. Didn't really know what to expect, but it turned out well. It is located about 1.5 miles from the Maui Mall Village (which itself is within walking distance from the cruise port). The Lyft cost about $15, and we were dropped off at the small strip mall, which had available parking. The restaurant is strictly walk-up. Once you place your order and pay (via Toast), they will call out your name once done. There is no place to eat anywhere close by (there are actually clear signage by other businesses to not eat anywhere near them). Thinking the best bet would be to eat in your car, since the restaurant does provide utensils and napkins. That wasn't an option for us, so after the 15 minutes when we got our food, we took an Uber to the nearby Botanical garden which had shaded picnic tables. As for the food, we all enjoyed it. One of the common toppings on the dishes, were small triangular arare rice crackers. All of us really liked it, especially for the prices paid. Mochiko Chicken ($14) - with white rice. a great dish. The dark meat chicken had a great crunch from the rice flour, and was really well flavored with a sweet glaze. Gonna have to try using Mochiko as a coating for chicken at home. Poke Bowl ($20) - hapa (half brown/half white). This had a large amount of great quality ahi tuna, well marinated. The hapa was actually brown rice and white rice cooked together (rather than cooked separately and then mixed)...the white rice was quite mealy because of it. Chefs Special of Bulgogi with white rice ($17) - the beef was thickly sliced, the marinade was delicious. It came with a good macaroni salad, and a decent cucumber kimchi. Small Beet Box ($8) - this was really loved, with kale and flash fried beets. A great vegetarian dish and the small size doesn't indicate how much food is in it. Yeah, I wish we could have eaten it right away since I'm sure the quality degraded a little as we were trying to find a place to eat it. But looking back, it's obvious not having a sit-down place does help with keeping costs down. And for local islanders who can quickly bring this home to eat together, I can see why Tin Roof (named for the sound of rain hitting a tin roof in Hilo Hawaii) is so popular. read more

Highly recommend. Hyped this place pretty hard and the photos are a bit deceiving in their simplicity. I figured it would be just another celebrity endorsed restaurant serving basic Hawaiian staples but Sheldon and his team really keep the bar high here. Not only that but they pack in the portions of high quality ingredients for very reasonable prices on Maui. The Mochiko chicken was loaded with tons of delectable double fried mochi covered juicy chicken morsels and more than enough for two hungry adults coming off a 5 hour flight. This was our first poke upon arrival and rei GB Ed supreme of the 8 we tried during our visit, including high end sushi, food truck, food land and other spots. Would recommend against he garlic noodles and prawns if you are looking for something different, particularly from cali. The prawns were perfectly cooked, abundant and large but were just in a garlic butter sauce so nothing particularly unique and the garlic noodles had some anchovy seasoning but otherwise pretty basic garlic noodles. Ha Can't recommend stopping here enough. You can order online or by phone to pick up more quickly.
