I take friendships seriously so if you're in my orbit, I'm going all in and all out! My love is going to shine and stick on your soul like glitter! Unforgettable.... As Nat King Cole sang! We are here because I chose the most lavish destination to celebrate life! Our last dinner on beautiful Maui. Located right outside the boardwalk is Roy's Kaanapali. Central because it's located on the Golf Course. My golf friends know this place well because it's the spot before a little tee time or after for the 19th hole! Ambiance is just okay! No need to go all out and dress up, you can but it's more chill and relaxed. Old and dated. BUT just fine! It's Maui! Service was excellent! Manger presence was in full effect and waiter was nice. We had a new waiter but he was fantastic. Let's get into it! Appetizer -Ribs huge portion! Delicious. Lucky we didn't have a kitchen or these would have been packed to go! Edamame- Yummy! Entrees - Swordfish/shrimp entree- was absolutely tantastic. Plating was plain but the food was delicious! Butterfish - Melt in your mouth good! Must visit while in Maui!

One of a few restaurants open during this storm. Made reservations on Open table, delicious lunch and drinks. The service was friendly and efficient. Great views of the golf course some dishes were a little pricey but the bacon cheese burger and mixed plate were yummy!

My folks and the folks in Hawaii didn't believe there was a Roy's in Baltimore once upon a time, but there was!! How do I know this, because I've eaten there twice!! When I saw that there was a Roy's about a mile from our resort, we had to check them out. Nothing special about the interior, kinda boring I'd say. It overlooks a beautiful PGA golf course that all of the big boys have played (their pictures are on the entry walls so I cheated).. Lol! Most people want to dine on the water while in Maui so Roy's better be good. Well, well, well, Roy's crushed it! Our rib appetizer was too damn big for an appetizer. We had to intentionally stop eating them to save room for our entrées and yes, those ribs were amazing! My swordfish/shrimp duo was absolutely fantastic. Her butterfish was just as good. When she shared a bite, it literally melted in my mouth. Service was impeccable, with the manager making his way over to introduce himself and offered his personal assistance as well. I'm glad I was able to experience Roy's once again, something that I thought was gone forever when they left Baltimore a few years back!! Maybe just maybe they'll try the Washington, DC area next.. Fingers crossed!

I really enjoyed the fall prix fixe menu and it was fantastic. Started with the Caesar salad with seared ahi, followed by braised short ribs and tiger shrimp served with au gratin potatoes and mixed vegetables, and finished with a rich chocolate ganache cake--each dish had yummy layered flavors. I also sampled the Yama's Mama's meatloaf, which was delicious, served with creamy mashed potatoes and huge crunchy onion rings. The staff were super attentive and friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. My impression was that they really enjoyed their jobs. The restaurant itself has a clean, Hawaiian-inspired atmosphere with scenic views of the Kaanapali Golf Course, Having visited other Roy's locations, I can say they maintain a consistent level of quality. Highly recommended and looking forward to my next visit.

We liked Roy's so much, that we ate here twice during our stay in Maui. The food was great. They put down a dish of edamame that was very good. Then, we split their version of a caesar salad. I say their version because it had cucumbers and tomatoes in it along with the romaine lettuce and a creamy caesar dressing. They were a nice addition. The first tie, as an entrée,, I had the Kaanapali Cioppino. It had seafood and local fish in it and was served in a saffron garlic tomato broth. The second time, I had the Misoyaki Butterfish. It is truly delicious and it never disappoints. My husband has to Hibachi Grilled Atlantic Salmon. There weren't many restaurant that served salmon, so my husband really enjoyed it. As it was my husband's birthday, they treated us to a wonderful dish of sorbet that we split. The service both times was amazing. We were greeted as soon as we sat down. The server kept coming back to check to make sure that we were happy and enjoying the meal. We never felt rushed and had a nice leisurely meal. It is a very big restaurant and the tables are spread out nicely. We were not near the other tables and didn't need to listen to the conversation at the next table. When back in Maui, we would definitely return.

Haven't been here in years. Food is still very delicious. My fish was moist and rice cooked to perfection. The sauce was perfect. Other dishes were excellent as well. Staff is friendly and helpful. Ambiance is nice and relaxing. We came to celebrate my daughter's birthday but disappointed to find out they don't have their chocolate soufflé anymore! That was disappointing. Bring it back please. They also don't put the extra little decorations on the table and make a special birthday dessert. Everything that made that extra day memorable is gone. My daughter got a sorbet with a candle and we sang to her. I would definitely recommend coming for the food but not to come celebrate a special occasion. Ended up going to another place to get dessert to celebrate the day.

If you're looking for a great lunch spot with excellent service, amazing food and a beautiful view of the golf course this is definitely the place to go. I ordered the chicken katsu, and it was spot on crispy with a golden-brown crunch on the outside, while still juicy and tender inside. The white rice that came with it was perfectly warm, sticky and delicious. I also tried the chicken sandwich and oh my....it was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The fries that came with it were just as impressive, crispy, crunchy and salted exactly right. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming and attentive. The restaurant itself is very clean, spacious and has an inviting atmosphere. I'll definitely be coming back :)

Let me start by saying...Roy's has the most legit kids menu in all of Hawaii! Reasonably priced (all things considered) with lots of good food. I also always enjoy my experience visiting this restaurant. Every entrée I've had has always been beautifully presented, very tasty and mindful of local flavors. Though I would choose other restaurants to dine at on Maui before landing on Roy's, you can always count on outstanding service, beautiful views and quality food at Roy's Kaanapali.

Let's begin our Hawaiian disaster here. We called Roy's to schedule a 7:30 PM reservation, but when we arrived, they told us it was booked for 7:00 PM. After waiting about 15 minutes, we were finally seated and handed menus. About 10 minutes later, someone came to take our drink orders -- we asked for a couple of sodas and two adult beverages. It took roughly 25 minutes for the drinks to arrive, and only then did our server take our food order. We got our appetizers in a reasonable time, but then the nightmare really began -- we waited over an hour for our main courses. When the entrees finally arrived, several dishes were wrong. Some were overcooked, and others were missing ingredients that were clearly listed on the menu. Not once during that long wait did our server come by to apologize or give us any update like, "Your food is almost ready." The only time our waiter seemed to notice anything was when he stopped by to ask how the steak was -- completely ignoring the other four entrees on the table that were just as expensive. When he realized the steak was badly overcooked, he removed two salads and the steak from our bill. I think he could tell we were exhausted and frustrated by that point. We had chosen Roy's because we had read glowing reviews and thought it would be a special, memorable meal for our once-in-a-lifetime vacation. Instead, it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had anywhere. Hawaii is home to incredible restaurants -- this is not one of them. Even if we come back in twenty years, we'll never set foot in here again.

One star deduction for their website menu prices not matching what they are currently charging. We decided to celebrate our anniversary at Roy's after a recommendation from a friend and checking their menu online. We had reservations yet it took a few minutes before we were seated. While waiting at the hostess desk we noted that the noise level was quite high and the restaurant had a casual dining ambiance. On looking at the menu I noticed that the prices were higher than what I had seen online just an hour earlier. My dish was $6 more and my husband's was $7 more. Our fish dishes were delicious. Normally when we eat out we can only eat half our plates and take the rest to eat later. The portion sizes were moderate with nothing left for later. We split a dessert. I know prices on Maui are really high, but we were shocked that our total for just one entrée each and the split dessert, no appetizers, no drinks, came to $175 after taxes and tip. That left a bad taste for the rest of our visit to the island.

So I made this reservation on March 1st. The open table app had an 8 pm choice. We took that one. I assumed this restaurant was open later than that but we found out I assumed wrong. That is on me. I was texted to confirm our reservation the day before. Which I confirmed. Then the night we are all getting ready to go I get a text telling me my table is ready 45 minutes before my reservation. What??? Am I late??? Am now going to lose my table because I am not down there? I checked my reservation. 8 pm. But by this time I am so pissed at this we almost cancelled. I have never had this happen to me ever. Do you think I am hanging out down outside your restaurant an hour early? Maybe change your wording. Maybe we can accommodate an early arrival if wanted. Sorry to say this ruined my evening. So the food was a formality. I think we had coconut shrimp appetizer. Which was good. Blackened shrimp which was good. Crusted Sea Bass was liked. Had the cheesecake at the end. Was told we need to order the creme brulee 20 minutes early. So that was out. I would never go to this place at the end of the night. Go early if you go. And it was overpriced IMO but this is Hawaii. So....

Typical Roy's fare - delicious and full of flavor with presentation. You really can't go wrong with anything here. If anything, a little on the spendy side - again, typical Roy's.

Pricey restaurant with a casual vibe--definitely no need to dress up if you don't want to. I came for late afternoon dinner with my almost-3-year-old. She had to order a Keiki meal --$18, so not cheap. But you get an appetizer of quesadilla and celery and carrot dip before your main course (we ordered the hibachi salmon which was cooked the perfect amount--not overcooked but also not undercooked for the kiddo). And then you get a vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup and sprinkles, which my daughter was very very excited about. I ordered the misoyaki butterfish and the fish itself was excellent. So tender and melts in your mouth. The accoutrements were good but not impressive. For the price, I would expect more fine dining plating and finely prepared sides. Service was great. Overall it was good, but I'm not super amazed by it considering the $$$ prices.

Ask the Community - Roy's Kaanapali

Is there outdoor seating available? I don't remember that from before, but I see it listed on Yelp as a feature

We were there in mid September and we didn't see any outdoor seating. The seating inside is very well spaced and I felt safe

Trying to cal the restaurant but nobody answers the phone and can't leave a voice mail...?

Honestly, go somewhere else. Was disappointed on last visit.

We are trying to make a reservation for 6 people on March 18. We can't seem to do this through Open Table and no one is answering any of the calls we are making at your restaurant. We are kama'aina. How do we make a reservation for 6 people?

We left a vm and they got back to us and we were able to book over the phone with them.

    Is there a dress code?

No need to get too dressed up, it's Hawaii! I would say nice casual. I wore a sun dress. Guys - slacks, polo shirt or Aloha shirt.

What does the new menu look like may I see pictures?

Just click on MENU on the Yelp page!

    Is this restaurant kids friendly?

I've seen kids there. It's an upscale restaurant. If your children are comfortable in a quiet restaurant and your comfortable with the prices, you will enjoy Roy's.

I had yet to try a Loco Moco since we arrived in Maui, I have had this dish on the other islands and it's been good. Tonight I tried Aloha Mixed Plate Loco Moco, they offer it with a choice of steamed rice or fried rice so I wanted to try the fried rice. What a difference in flavor combos. The fried rice gave the dish a much richer taste than the steamed rice. The hamburger patty was incredible, I could taste the char noting it was not fried on a flat top. Excellent dish. My wife did the sirloin steak special prepared with mushrooms and onions and cooked to perfection. Juicy and flavorful and plenty of it. Cocktails were outstanding, we tried something different from our first visit. Loved the evening feel of the room, the night vibe with the exterior torches and landscape really brought the tropical feel. Then came an amazing sunset which you could experience from any table in the house. Couldn't leave without trying the Aloha Pie, so decadent and light. After driving there from Lahaina for lunch, this dish was unavailable?? Even yelpers rave about it! So we ordered the pork belly and wanted chow fun but they only have the chicken variety? So there is a reason why the Asian restaurants we usually dine at make beef chow fun. The chicken version was bland and wanting for something else to complete it! But surely edible and nicely cooked noodles. The pork belly was ok but not slap your momma I'll go back for that good. The Mac salad was awful compared to much more affordable plate lunch places. It was flavorless, overcooked pasta, and a gritty texture! Weirdly the chairs there at the tables are low and you feel like you are at the children's table at Thanksgiving. So much so that us and two other groups including the ones that moved after ordering to our vacated table moved from the regular tables to the ones at the window with a bench on one side. We had fun joking with our replacements about that! So for the most part here it appears to be tourist clientele and not many Filipinos but my wife. I think that these exceptionally high prices for basic dishes and burgers (she asked why would people go to a Filipino restaurant and order a burger) are why not many locals eat here. And frankly most aunties make better Filipino food better at home. Glad we tried but not again. Checked off of our try try list. The setting alone is stunning--overlooking the Kapalua golf course with gorgeous ocean views--but the food absolutely lived up to the scenery. We started with a fresh house salad, which was simple but perfectly dressed and a great way to kick things off. For entrées: * My husband ordered the short rib, which was incredibly tender and rich with flavor. The sauce paired perfectly with the creamy mashed potatoes and roasted carrots. * My oldest son had the prime rib, and it was cooked beautifully with a great sear and topped with asparagus and a flavorful butter. * I chose the shrimp scampi, which was buttery, garlicky, and packed with shrimp. The pasta was coated in the most delicious creamy sauce and even came with toasted bread to soak up every bit of it. * My younger two ordered from the kids menu--the kids short rib and butter-and-cheese fettuccini--and both plates were generous and surprisingly elevated for kids' meals. Everything we ordered came out looking beautiful and tasting just as good. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and the whole experience felt relaxed but still upscale. My experience in the food/hospitality industry is that the reservation parties are always seated before a "walk in" and that didn't happen with us. Nevertheless let's talk about Leilani's, it's a bi level set up with patio dining at ground level with beach level views, live entertainment and a different dining menu. We were seated on the 2nd level with ocean view and open breezy al fresco ambience. Our server was Hannah, pleasant and ready to offer a truly fabulous dining experience. Hannah did check on us multiple times through dinner, thank you Hannah for that. We started with the chilled beets and whipped burrata, a creatively crafted use of Burrata cheese that really made this chilled beet salad delicious. The Parmesan crusted Mahi Mahi in a flavorful lemon caper sauce was so good, fish was very fresh and flaky. Coconut shrimp was cooked perfectly, packed with coconut and cooked to perfection. Not dry at all, the sauce that comes with it didn't really pair with the coconut shrimp only because my wife is not a big Curry fan. Hannah effortlessly switched sauce to a horseradish Yuzu sauce that paired nicely and definitely a better flavor combo. Kimos Hula Pie was "Ono" simply delizioso and a huge piece enough for two and we still couldn't finish it.
