This review is for the Easter Egg hunt! My girls had a wonderful time. Tickets are $4 a child, must be purchased in advance so they can plan for how many will be present. Three available times throughout the day. Each child gets a number & 8 eggs associated with the number. Very fun to hunt around to find your egg with the number on it. Eggs are filled with an assortment of shells, rocks, fossils, etc. At the end, the staff verifies your egg numbers are yours & then rewards you with a geode. The geode can be cracked for free in the store before leaving. Also had face painting & bunnies to visit with on site. **PEFRECT FOR FOOD ALLERGY FAMILIES!!!** No candy or anything to worry about. They did have food trucks on site selling food, but nothing that took away from my kiddo's enjoyment of an egg hunt! read more

I love this place. You won't find a better place anywhere. They have a huge variety of gems and minerals. They rent gold detectors and any type of metal detector. You can get lost in the plethora of gems and crystals, fossils and much more. If this is what sparks your interests, this place rocks! I think their customer service is great and I love the fact that you don't have a sales person hounding you down, watching you like a hawk. In Albuquerque for vacation. I have been in a Gem and Mineral club about 10 years and have learned quite a bit. I do lapidary, wire wrapping, and some metal work. Mama's is a beautiful shop, but absolutely NO customer service! No one even said, "Hello" to us! I also noticed the staff being rude to other customers. Nice materials, but priced way too high. You really need to know your materials and prices before you go to look.....then buy elsewhere! read more

I found the staff to be a little cold.. And unwilling to answer questions. On my second trip they had armed security following people around the store. I found it a little disrespectful considering I'm a paying customer and was being watched over anything I even looked at or decided to put back after finding a better kind of the same crystal. I called ahead to let store know that I was coming all the way from Oregon and going to be getting in about 5 minutes before they closed. The lady on the phone said "We won't keep the store open late so make sure you make it by 7pm. I made it there 5 minutes early ran to the door and the door was locked and I called in and was like, "Hey I got here 5 minutes before close I know exactly what I want can I come in and buy it?" The same lady's response, "Sorry I decided to close early". I walked out to my car and 2 min later she walked out and drove away. Worst customer service ever! The selection here is unbeatable, but after watching the owner/manager lose her sh-- in front of me and other customers, I would much rather frequent other mineral shops. I'm pretty sure she is the owner, because I've heard before that she is. I didn't see what the customer did who got yelled at by her, but it was loud, and unprofessional in my opinion and the owner was using curse words. The other customers and I just looked at each other like "what the hell?" and then there was silence. It was a pretty uncomfortable feeling. I don't think I'll go back to that place any time soon. As a rock & fossil collector myself, there wasn't a lot for me. But for most people--and most children--this place would be paradise. There are so many samples of things, the organization is nice, there are both expensive/exotic things to stare at and inexpensive things to buy, and while the prices aren't low they aren't as bad as I'd expect from a store with such nice presentation. read more

Love this place. But today I visited and take advantage of the bead sale they were having. Ok the sale states buy two strands get one free. So when I went to pay out I am then informed that the free strand is on the very cheapest strands. I bought 12 strands ranging in price from 5.99 to 27.99. well they gave me the 5.99 strands for free. So I baught three strands of the same stone , no I did not get one of those free nope it's only on the cheapest strands. I just found it very misleading and not quite right. But overall I do love the store and they have a great product. I just had a misunderstanding about the sale. read more

Outstanding selection. Outstanding staff. I love this place. My father is an avid rock/fossil collector, and I've been able to find gifts for him for pretty much any occasion. (Lights that glow only under shortwave black light? Done.) It's also a fabulous and educational place to take kids. I went there with my best friend and her two kids (ages 9 and 11), and the staff to lots of time to explain the different properties of different stones and to give impromptu geology advice in simple terms that the kids could both understand and appreciate. On one occasion, they even personalized a piece of rose quartz for me, using a diamond-tipped drill to inscribe a special message. (They guy was really nice about it, and let me video the process so that the kids could learn from his technique.) If you'll forgive the pun, it's a gem of a store, and I'm always happy to visit. read more

Don't get me wrong, the merchandise is exceptional, but some of the staff is downright ridiculous. Some of you need to learn a little something about working in customer service. The owner (was told her name is Laura?) is one of the nastiest women I've ever come across. She is blatantly rude to her customers and staff. She isn't genuinely friendly and she's not a pleasant person to be around. And when I asked her a question she was kind of a snob. I was pleased with some of my purchases, but I walk out with a bad taste in my mouth if she's in sight because of an incident I witnessed with her and a customer and with a staff member months ago. She was reprimanding a blonde girl for trying to help pack/ wrap up merchandise, (what's the matter with that?) the girl was nice but the owner was barking orders at her to stop helping the customer. I could tell the girl was a little upset and confused and I think she was new, but that's no way to treat your staff! This used to be my favorite store in Santa Fe- the staff was so knowledgeable and friendly. The last time that I went back turned out to be an experience that is no longer having me as a regular patron for my visits in New Mexico. I had ordered a Himalayan lamp to be delivered back up to NY and was told that they would have it shipped out within a couple of days. What they had failed to tell me was that being shipped meant having the product picked up from the manager from the Albuquerque location only to then sit around in that store for about a week and a half before the postal service actually sent it out. It was a gift for my mother that I could have bought anywhere else, even Amazon, but I chose that location. When I called the store after two weeks of not having received the lamp, I was informed by a really rude salesgirl was that what she had meant to say was that first the manager from the Albuquerque location needs to pick it up, which usually takes a week and then send it out. When she clearly admitted that she never did inform me of this, I asked to speak with a manager and said that there wasn't a manager at that time. Furthermore, there is a post office 3 blocks away from the store that I was at, so why it takes someone a week to walk 3 blocks is beyond me. When I asked for a refund on the shipping, she told me that she would call me back...its been nearly two months. Now, if only there were crystals and gemstones for customer service... read more

Called store on Friday June 10th at 0903am to see if a book was in stock. A female said she would put it aside for me, but could not do a phone order that I had to order online. I hung up phone and immediately ordered online at 0913am. Paid $10 for 1-2 shipping, Saw that my card was charged on the 11th. Expecting to see book by Monday or Tuesday and no book. I call Tuesday at 455pm wanting a tracking number and was told John was in charge of orders and was not in to call back tomorrow (Wednesday). Called Wednesday the 15th at 1050am and 343pm and John stated he was shipping the book that evening. I was mad because book was not shipped yet. Called today, Thursday and left message for John at 1209pm for tracking number and he did not return my call. Called back and asked for manager at 449pm who was apologetic and she gave me a tracking number. Found out it is still not shipped. One week after I ordered, a book that was taken off the shelf and put aside for me, just needed to be processed and mailed. They charged my card right away..... Still charged $10 for the expedited shipping, still not received yet, it will be one week tomorrow. I will never purchase from this store again. Just received a call (Thursday 529pm) from Kayla. She was pleasant and apologetic and going to refund my money. Thank you for your call Kayla. read more

So RUDE!!! I took my 4y/o nephew here because he loves stones and crystals, he loved the place and was the most well behaved child you could want. Didn't run around, didn't yell, kept his hands off all the pretty things, then he found a small stone he loved. He asked if he could have it, it was only 50¢, and asked if he could pay for it like a big boy. So I gave him a few quarters and we walked to the checkout and waited...and waited....and waited...and waited. A woman came up, 3 separate times, looked me up and down then walked away. A second woman came up totally ignored us and walked away. After standing patiently for 20 MINUTES someone came to the register and checked out their customer again completely ignoring us!!! All my nephew wanted was to hand over a few quarters for a stupid rock and even with me standing next to him, obviously waiting to check out 3 different people ignored us. We could've easily just walked out, with the damn stone, but my nephew was so excited about buying something himself I bit my tongue and we kept on waiting. Finally after waiting, and getting enough attitude that I was pissed, a nice man came to the register, took my nephews quarters, put his stone in a bag and gave him a receipt. One professional employee out of the dozen or so I saw in the building? I will never ever go to this place again EVER! The people that work at the store are nice but the owner is really rude, mean and disrespectful. I make metaphysical devices. One of them being Orgone Pyramids. I was told by the people that work there that the shop would be interested in purchasing some. They told me on the day the owner was there to give them a call so I did. Once i got on the phone with the owner she was very mean and disrespectful. The lady gave her the phone and told her what the conversation was about but when the owner got the phone she very loudly and rudely asked CAN I HELP YOU!! I mean the other lady just told her what it was about. But not only this she then said that she didn't know what a Orgone Pyramid was right after her employee just explained to her what it was. Then when I tried explaining she interrupted several times and said we don't sell those types of things here even though they do. THE POWER OF YELP! I recently posted a poor review (1 star) concerning the Albuquerque Mamas Mineral's refusal to refund my unwanted gift purchase... Amazingly, the SAME DAY that the Yelp review was posted online I received a phone call from the business owner/manger (Gary) and he expressed his concern about the negative review with some acknowledgement of my long term customer status with Mamas Minerals. I explained my very disgruntled feelings and Gary agreed to refund the purchase price for the metal detector and the hammer that I did not need (my Wife bought as a surprise gift). Today (Feb 1 2018) I drove to Mama Minerals (again!) and returned the metal detector and hammer and received a full refund as well as getting a $25 gift card (surprise!) to "compensate for my inconvenience"... As I told Gary during our phone conversation- I am trying to re-establish my enthusiasm and support for Mamas Minerals after Gary's mea culpa, and I really do like the store's wide selection of minerals, fossils, etc. They have earnestly tried to "mend fences" with me as a customer. It will take time, I certainly do not think that it should have taken several trips and online complaint/review process to get this simple refund done.
