I've only been here one other time, but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the food here! Everything on their menu sounds completely amazing. I only wish I was a competitive eater, so I could eat more. Our server was incredibly friendly. My only complaint was the time it took us to get our food. It didn't seem to busy, so I'm not sure what the delay was. They have BYOB it doesn't get any better than that! To be specific they only permit for you to bring your own bottle of wine which goes great with Italian food! The pizza here is amazing it can take about 30 minutes to cook but I would say the wait is totally worth it. The service is always great since all the servers are very attentive and are always making sure you aren't missing anything. They always make some great recommendations as to what you should try. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for some great Italian food in the McAllen area. Just don't forget to bring your wine bottle along with you! read more

We just ordered food for a family that just lost a loved one, then we find out the family is away making arrangements for the funeral so we had to cancel. Mind you we ordered the food within 10mins we call to cancel and inform them that we will be rescheduling it in a couple of days when they get back, well the owner tells us he will cancel the order but to never call the restaurant again! I'm absolutely in shock right now I can't believe these people are this disgusting I will never step foot in this restaurant again and I hope everyone thinks twice about coming to this horrible place read more

I came here with my mother. It's more modern looking than Mama Mia's Pizzeria, and perhaps a bit bigger, since it also has an outdoor patio with additional seating. I was craving Pasta Arrabiata, having tried it once in Manhattan's Little Italy, so I decided to come over and order their Penne Alla Arrabiata. The bread was soft and buttery. My sauce wasn't spicy, even though I expected it to be, but it was perfectly fine since they have crushed red pepper on the table, so you can add the spice according to your preference. We also shared cheese sticks. They were crunchy and cheesy, like they're supposed to be. The marinara sauce that came with them was meaty and delicious. read more

Mama's is a delightful restaurant perfect for lunch and dinner. Their red sauce is perfectly seasoned! One of the best red sauces I've ever had. They put it on their pasta and pair it as a side with their fried ravioli. The fried ravioli is something I highly recommend as an appetizer. It's their fresh, homemade ravioli lightly breaded. A little spicy but so yummy! Their pasta is also delicious. I've tasted the baked ziti, creamy pesto, and spaghetti with meatballs - all dishes have been great. I really like to try something different every time I go because I know I'll get something good. The atmosphere is very home-y because the restaurant is pretty much in a converted house. During the evening, the ambience is really lovely for a family dinner or date night. On days with wonderful weather, the patio is perfect and there are twinkle lights at night. It's really a cool location and very unlike anything else in the city. I've hosted several parties in the back room for birthdays and graduations. The Mama's staff is really helpful and willing to accommodate your needs. The owner is a delight and will come by to check how things are going whenever he's in the restaurant! This has gone back to being one of our favorites. You can read my earlier reviews. The thing is that they have consistently had good food and a pleasant location m, the issue tends to be with servers. They have had some awesome servers and not so good. When they are good, this place is can't miss. I don't really care about what the New York and Chicago people say (they always complain about pizza and pasta not meeting their specifications), this is the valley and this place has good food. - they were closed on a holiday so we ended up ordering from their arch rival-Mama Mia's and the flavor difference was very obvious and showed that Mama's is clearly the better of the two. Come support a great locally owned restaurant. - Covid Update- They do a great job with carry out. You can walk in and pick it up or they will bring it to the car. My first time at Mama's Pizzeria and it was OKAY. The service was good and the prices are decent. They have an average selection of wine and beer. The food was underwhelming. I was told a long time ago that you can judge a restaurant based on its chicken parmigiana and that standard has never let me down. Basing solely off of that meal, I found myself unsatisfied. The sauce tasted like it was from a low quality plastic jar. There was too much salt with little flavor. This led to to consume my meal quickly, rather than enjoy it. For a full review, I feel I would need to try this establishment's pizza. However, based upon the meal I had, I feel that getting a frozen pizza or meal from a store would be just as good but ultimately more affordable than coming here again. read more

Don't know about anyone else but I go to a restaurant to enjoy good food and quality service. I've been to this restaurant a couple of times now. The first time, after wait thirty minutes to order, the waiter brought me something I didn't order and argued with the it was what I ordered. Decided to leave it alone since it didn't seem I was going to get what I want to eat anyway. We left and told myself I wouldn't return. After several months a friend wanted to try this restaurant so I figured maybe it was a one-time thing and the service would be much better this time around. Again the wait time is ridiculous to place an order. After ordering and waiting a good while, I asked the waitress if our food would be out soon and was told the were out. I told her it would have been nice if we had been told. She just stood there and finally said we'll do you want something else. I now vow never to return!!!! read more

Ordered a pepperoni pizza. It was ready and hot at the promised 30 minute pickup time. I was overall underwhelmed, and not entirely convinced this was home made dough. It was quite similar to storebought in appearance and in taste. The pepperoni was underneath the cheese instead of on top, and the pie was cut into squares, not slices. Two major components of a good pizza for my personal taste. I wouldn't say I regret going, but I do not plan on ordering again. read more

This place was horrible we ordered a lobster ravioli it had fake crab and lobster and we asked the manager if the seafood was real or fake and she said I don't know. Came here at the end of December for Xmas break and wasn't too bad. Remember seeing the place while growing up but never stopped by until recently. They're dog friendly and it seemed like they have a lot of regulars. Inside was crowded, I guess it's a popular place for Christmas parties and bdays so we sat outside. Service was pretty quick despite the crowd inside. Pizza was okay with me, not really a MUST stop by kinda thing but the sangria was pretty good. We got a pitcher for a decent price...can't remember how much but you could tell they made it with love. Definitely recommend that. Overall it was a nice cute place however their parking lot is tiny but have plenty of street parking and if there's a crowd inside it can get really noisy. I'd come back for the drinks and the atmosphere but I've surely had better pizza. read more

Took an hour and 20 minutes to receive food. Our table was never checked on which resulted in our ice watering down in our beverages. But wait, there's more. Never received straws. Equivalent to a comedy club, dinner and a show (employees arguing loudly and for all to see), thus resulting this restaurant as a joke. Pasta was exceptional though. Not knowing where, or if, we could get real pizza in South Texas, we stopped at Mama's. First thought was wish it was warm enough to eat outside on the inviting covered patio. Inside, warm, clean, old home, built ins, fireplace, tiled tables. Nothing cheap or tacky. Extensive menu, 5 sizes of pizza! We started with fried muzzarela stuffed olives, delicious, and hard to find. One friend had the rigatoni lunch special, the other Mama's pizza. Husband and I split a medium meatball and anchovies pizza, omg, delicious. All of us had nothing to complain about or wish for. Wine and beer around... We are in the area for a couple more weeks and definitely will return. Friendly staff, great service, mangia on the food.... thanks Mama! read more

(Repost from 4/17/16) I stopped at Mama's with my boyfriend to kick off my Friday night. It was quite packed - which is to be expected - but we didn't have much trouble seating ourselves in the smaller room attached to main dining area. It was cozy and beautifully adorned with all sorts of crazy cooking related displays and random tchotchkes. Within minutes, one of the serving staff popped through the doorway with menus in hand to take out drink order. We scanned the menu briefly and when he came back with our beverages, we placed our order. To break it down for you first timers, they have a wide selection of tasty grub from appetizers to soups to sandwich and burgers to pizza - obviously. That being said, it's a pizza joint and I highly recommend you ordering just that. They have a great selection of pizzas of various sizes. If you aren't to keen to any of them, there's even a build-your-own menu option. Anyway, the worse part of this whole experience had to be the waiting. Which we obviously couldn't do anything about nor could the staff. We were anxiously anticipating the arrival of our food but it was worth the wait! Our pizza - Mama's Super Deluxe - consisted of pepperoni, Italian sausage, Canadian bacon, beef, green peppers, mushrooms, onions, and black olives (we order ours without beef and onions) arrived simmering hot and fresh out of the oven. The cheese was melted all the way through and the vegetables were baked very evenly, nothing came out soggy or dry. Each bite was savory and full of flavor. The crust is always crunchy perfection - not too hard, not too soft. We happily devoured our masterpiece. I love this place. The environment is always great although the noise level varies depending on who you're sitting next to. It shouldn't be to hard to have a conversation though. They even have a nice outdoor seating area on their patio if you want to enjoy the day as you dine. Mama's never disappoints. read more

Only putting 2 stars since the food was decent but service ABSOLUTELY sucks. 20 minutes to wait for service and another 40 minutes to wait for a simple appetizer? not even trying to calculate the time for our food to come after, which was a lot more after. I'm a regular at Mamas it's amazing food & drinks. Great service, amazing patio love it. And hey get an A plus for being pet friendly, they have dish bowls and snacks for our 4 legged family members.
