You can't miss it with its bright yellow sign as parking is easily found on the street. When you enter, you walk in enveloped with the aroma of sweet incense. You'll be greeted by owner Joya Settle, eager to show off her wares with a smile, available to answer any questions. As you look to your left, you'll find homemade Body Butter that Joya's made in a variety of flavors and I really love the Lavender scent that I purchased! Additionally, you'll find Joya's Homemade oils in flavors such as Honeydew, Cotton Candy and Red Velvet. They're all bottled and labeled by Joya herself. You'll also find her incense sticks with amazing artwork labels that her Fiance Carone designed and that she colored in -- apparently a collector's item! The rest of the Shop is stocked via local Artisans who have created Jewelry of many styles, bottlecap pins. woven purses, and even toys! Superman, anyone? This small space, filled with incense, essentilal oils, soap, white sage, jewelry, natural hair and skin care products, smells sweet, spicy and smoky. Mama does hair and Papa runs the shop. When she massages her handmade conditioning "mud" into your hair and on your scalp, the tension will start to leave your body. She only has one chair and never has more than 2 hair clients at a time. The playlist consists mostly of acid jazz and R & B so unlike most salons, the vibe stays consistently chill. The one shampoo bowl is in small room, candlelit room in the back of the store. It's walls and ceiling are artfully drapped with fabric and scarves. She massages my scalp the way Mommy did during the Saturday morning childhood ritual that was washing and drying my hair. Hand poured warm water gently cascades over my rejuvenated scalp. She finishes with an invigorating cold water rinse to close the pores. The rest is par for the course but the environment makes the total experience anything but. read more

I waited 5 months to do this review because I've been so upset over my hair. I came in with bra strap length hair looking to get my locs started. This lady began cutting large portions of my hair because she said it wouldn't loc. I tried to be understanding because I knew my ends were rough but she cut some of my hair down to an inch. I cried but tried to just cheer up and get through it. It's been months and I still cry about how unhappy I am with the thickness of my locs and how a lot of the back is cut uneven and short. I wish I had just stopped her from cutting smh, also the products she used was extremely sticky and tacky almost like honey, so lint and other shit got stuck in my hair. Just save your money and buy her body butter insted *i waited so long to post my review because I didn't want to offend anyone and Im also partially to blame for outcome because I let you cut my hair. The fact that you don't recognize me doesn't mean I'm lying. I scechuled my appt online for oct 10 you didn't see the online appt and so I had to call you and tell you I was outside the shop waiting. Your husband and you arrived 20 min later and we began. My appt took most of the day since you had other appts you had scheduled in lieu of not seeing my online booking. Does any of this ring a bell? If not check your online appt system for October 10 2018. It's been 5 months and you see tons of people so that's understandable. I was not trying to offend or attack you personally but you took it that way judging by tone of your response. Either way it doesn't matter I wish you the best but my review was honest and real. Upon entering this shop, I was greeted by a nice kid who wanted to show me some shea butter. Before he even reach the jar, the store owner (mind you this guy had chicken bits hanging from his mouth) comes over all wild eyed says "Don't just look, we black people love to look but never support. I have stuff for a quarter and you wouldn't think twice on dropping a dime for the white man's products." Before I could even gear up for a smart ass reply, he continues on by saying "I bet you shop at Old Navy and Vons up the street but you won't support me. I'm doing what I can to support the black man, what about you?". I politely replied by saying "I am a Preschool teacher of 10 years at a very cultured center in the city of Inglewood. Great scented products; very poor customer service and attitude. I went in yesterday at the suggestion of a friend to speak about artwork. I didn't intend to buy anything, but I did so to support this budding business. However, while I compared prices from other stores and commented on the limited amount of product- that's what customers usually do- the lady came up to me and wanted to take the jar from me. She literally said, "You can give me that, or are you buying it?" While I spoke with the sales guy, she came from nowhere, butted in and made it clear she was offended. Business owners cannot wear their feelings on their sleeve. The products were actually very enticing, but they get 3 stars for the owner not knowing how to handle her personal emotions and be professional. If you're going to spend your money here, be sure to keep your mouth shut. UPDATE: I went back to this small store today for one of the scents I enjoyed. I was willing to bury yesterday's experience and recognize this lady for her great product. She did not say anything when I entered, and when I asked about the item, she was a smart aleck while sarcastically pointing out she has a "small" jar left. It is my humble opinion that you should not get a trim or haircut from Mama Sunshine if you have curly hair. I regretfully share this review because I should have done more research and used better judgement before i decided to allow Mama Sunshine to cut/trim 3-5 inches off my 3 year old very pampered mostly type 3c natural curls. I trusted her when she said she would spend an hour on my trim, and trim only what was necessary,and not take more than I agreed on. But she never asked for my input once she started cutting. We discussed the textures of my hair and she said."you really need a good trim. " But this is truly the worse haircut ever. I didn't mind the length being taken down so short (although the length it is now is dysfunctional), as much as I mind the really bad shape. The only repair would have been to chop off the back as well. But I needed to do latent damage control as best as possible without making it any worse.Since there wasn't a mirror on the wall I didn't really have the opportunity to pay attention to the progress, but I really wished I had. I learned a costly lesson. I reviewed my cut with a hand mirror in bad lighting. By the time I got to my car and took a good look I wanted to cry. I am sharing this information so that others can be spared of this or like experiences. I wish Mama well and I know she has done well with her products and I pray for her continued success in that industry. read more

I can't say enough about the Mama's Mud Whipp Leave-In Conditioner, it makes my natural hair so bouncy and manageable with well defined curls. I also use the Revitalizing Conditioning Mist to freshen up my curls, both products are a "hair must' for natural hair care. You can have your hair styled by the creator of Mama Whip. I slipped up and found myself with no soap. So, I ran to the store and grabbed the closest thing to pure as possible.WRONG ANSWER! My skin immediately reacted to the perfumes and chemicals. PaPa Sunshine had been telling me about This Soap. I believed him, but at $7, I left it where it lay. Sure enough, months later, I'm calling in to make sure it is in stock so I can pick it up ASAP!
