I read great things about this company. The positives were the movers were very nice and professional. No talking (aka cursing) on the phone during the move like I have experienced with other companies. N My big rant comes from them overbooking and not showing up to move the contents of my apartment from 1 floor to another in the same building with an elevator. They didn't show up until 6 pm the day of the move, even after I repeatedly left messages on their answering machine. Promptly at 8pm, they said they were finished for the day and what else was absolutely necessary for them to move. Half of my boxes and stuff were still needing to be moved!!! I am handicapped, but ended up having to move the rest of the stuff myself for the next several hours. I was pissed! If they couldn't/wouldn't work past 8, then hey shouldn't have taken my job that day. read more

Two summers ago, I moved into an apartment and almost all of the labor and heavy lifting was performed for free, by men I met on Tinder. It was West Philly, I was single, quit your judging. This summer, I moved into an apartment in Queen Village with my partner, and I booked Mambo Movers. We didn't want to do any of the stressful backbreaking parts of moving, because we didn't want to bring any negativity or stress into our first place. If money can preserve a new relationship by eliminating pointless stress which leads to fighting, shut up and take my money. They show up to the old apartment in the truck, magnificently bearded, black rim glasses, punk rock t-shirts and cutoff jorts, and my partner says wryly, "These guys have a truck but I thought you weren't booking the movers on tinder anymore." And they got to work. The estimate was overshot and they completed the job in less time than expected, so we used the extra money to tip heavily. They were efficient, polite, fun, and very careful with our stuff. They only accept cash and I think money order or cashier check, so pay special attention when booking them to those rules. These guys are amazing and deserve to be tipped generously. read more

I wasn't sure if Mambo would do a move that wasn't in the city at all, but they had no problem with our move from Glenside to Wynnewood. We had to take an afternoon move, because we scheduled very last minute, after selling our house very quickly. We packed everything very well, and it all took a total of 4 hours TOTAL which made the total cost very, very reasonable. The charges are currently $107 plus gas plus transport time back to Mambo when everything is done. I highly recommend these guys, whether you're moving within the city limits or outside of them! read more

First time I used these guys was 5 years ago when I moved from Chinatown to Wash Sq from a large 2 bedroom to a smaller 1 bedroom, price was just 2 hours of labor. They were fast, efficient, and friendly. This time, I used them to move 1 city block (spruce street to locust street, on the same "number street"), from a 1 bedroom brownstone to a 1 bedroom doorman building with elevators. The time was 3 hours, the service was friendly and that's about all that was positive about these guys. They broke my nice halogen floor lamp base and all they offered was "sorry it happens a lot", they took multiple cigarette breaks during their time on the clock when I was paying them (I saw them from my apartment window), they left their fanny packet of personal stuff in my old apartment while I was watching them smoke their cigarettes and I had to personally go downstairs with their items and to tell them to please get going and move the stuff! They showed up on time, and I proceeded to show them exactly what to move. They quickly moved around and loaded up the truck. After things were loaded, I waited for someone to come up to the apartment to ask me if there was anything else to load or whether they can go to the next block or not? 10 minutes later, no one showed up, the "move" stopped in time, I look out and see 2 guys having a cigarette and chatting on their cell phones. I didn't know when you charge $75/hour, I get to pay for you guys to have cigarettes! I also noticed your movers left their personal fanny pack in my window sill so I grabbed the fanny pack and went downstairs to tell them I was done. Once we were at the new apartment, things slowly came up and I decided to take a look outside my 7th floor window and I see again the guys having a cigarette and talking on their phones. Before they leave, they bring up the halogen lamp I've used in my old living room, the cement base was shattered and there were pieces all over my hardwood kitchen floors. Their sorry excuse for an apology was, "Sorry, it happens a lot with these lamps.", it was almost as they were blaming the fact that I had this kind of lamp than the fact that they broke the lamp. There was no talk about reimbursing me for the lamp or helping fix it. I wonder what would have happened if it was a nice new TV that got damaged? "Sorry, these TV's are fragile" seems like the most likely response based on their indifferent responses this time. Everything got done in 3 hours time, 1 hour longer than the previous time I used them for a much further move (Race to Spruce Street). The first time was 4 stars, this time was 2 star mainly due to the lack of communication at the end of the move and my having to pay for the employee's cigarette breaks. Next time I move within Philly, I will definitely be looking for a different group of movers. read more

My girlfriend hired these guys to move her from Bella Vista to an apartment six blocks away. All told, they took about four hours to do it. These dudes were quick and polite, even when it started raining in the middle of the move. I could tell that two of them were struggling artist/musicians, while the other was just a regular dude. One of them needed a shower and a hot meal and possibly a hug too. OK, so why three stars and not four/five? The secretary/operator lied. He told my girlfriend 9:00am, then called back to say they were having "truck issues", and told her "later that afternoon". When you're moving, and you have people taking off work to help you out, a difference of one hour is big. A difference of four hours is a deal-breaker. When they finally showed up after several anxious phone calls to check up on them, it was 1:00. Not cool. The lamest part? The guys in the truck said it was because the company overbooked. Whoops. Don't lie to people, Mambo. It doesn't jive with your message. read more

UPDATE: I have settled the dispute with Mambo, but only after threatening litigation, filing a complaint with the BBB, posting a negative review on Angieslist and opening a disute with their resolution department. Word of advice: If you hire Mambo, and they break your things: #1 - Do not pay them right away. Ignore what the movers tell you about how the office will take care of you. The movers are nice and will sell you on dreams of butterflies and rainbows and how you'll be fairly compensated. The owners are not. They will make you fight to simply get your money back to replace your items, and you will stress out and have to jump through a lot of hoops to do it. Make absolute sure not to pay Mambo any money upfront if anything is broken. #2 - File a complaint with the BBB immediately, unless they pay you cash on the spot to replace your broken items. Filing with the BBB seems to have been what lit a fire under them to actually start taking me seriously. #3 - Post an honest review on YELP and Angieslist. People on here need to be warned about the bad experiences as well as the positive ones. I wish I had done my homework before hiring this company. If I had, I would have avoided them all together, rented my own truck and paid a few friends to help me move. It ended up not being worth the headache and emotional stress. read more

Its not a surprise that Mambo gets such a high rating on Yelp. These dudes are good. Not only that, they are friendly and cool. When i saw a dude carrying three heavily packed boxes and a lamp on his back with ease and a smile, I knew this was going to be a good move. Ben, Rocky, and Yannis were a pleasure to work with - they handled our complex moving situation with professionalism, and we all had a good time doing it. Moving isn't supposed to transpire that way. In this case, it was actually fun. We were doing a Tuesday afternoon move from the Italian Market to East Passyunk Sq. Anyone who has ever driven a 20+ foot truck through/around the Italian Market knows it takes skill. Mambo drove the truck with ease and found a perfect parking spot to be able to pack the truck. We also lived on the third floor of an apartment building with narrow hallways. No problem for these dudes. We were done the move in just over 3 hours, and we had a shit ton of stuff. One other point to mention: By the time these dudes arrived at our place, they had already been through a long day. They were coming from a morning job with lots of complications and clients that were complete dicks to them. Yet with us, they were upbeat, friendly, and had fun doing the move. You don't find that too often with movers. And the collaboration was great - they do the move WITH you, not FOR you. Don't misinterpret that statement - they do ALL the heavy lifting and hard work - the difference between Mambo and other movers is that these guys communicate with you, joke with you, and make the move enjoyable. It was a true pleasure. Can't give a more glowing review of these three guys, and Mambo Movers in general. Can I give 10 stars? Seriously. This is the best moving money I ever spent in my whole life, and I'll NEVER move my own furniture again. We had scheduled a Sunday morning move and they arrived promptly at 9:30 as promised. In a mere 3 hours they loaded an entire house-worth of furniture and boxes and bins, drove it down to our new house in South Philly, and unloaded. 3 hours!!! It would have taken us 12 hours to do that on our own with a UHaul. The grand total for 3 guys laboring their butts off for 3 hours was $315. You'd spend about that much just renting a UHaul and doing it yourself! Screw that. Pay someone else. Now, the total above didn't include tip, and we tipped quite generously, but I've never been so happy to fork over a bug chunk of change. Nothing was damaged (they wrapped up the glass tabletops very well), they were very polite and easy to work with, and they helped us bring our new dryer down to the basement! They also handled the neighbours well when we were blocking the street at the new house with the truck. All in all I just could not have been more pleased, and I was shocked when they were done so quickly. Word to the wise: put in the time in advance to pack EVERYTHING and get it all staged in an organized manner. That's what we did and it helped things go that much more smoothly. Time is money, so do yourself a favour and clear off the furniture you want them to move before they get there. read more

I honestly cannot say enough great things about Mambo Movers. Many past roommates had used them for short and long moves (Philly to NYC, or just a couple blocks) and all loved their experiences. When I finally decided to grow up and pay for a mover - you're welcome Dad! - I called around and got quotes from seemingly every moving company in the city. Shockingly, Mambo was the most reasonable bid! They called an hour before showing up and 10-15 minutes before. They showed up early (I'd requested it and they actually listened!) and completely the move in EXACTLY 2 hours, which, by the way, is their minimum. 3 movers showed up when I was expecting only 2, which was awesome (it's the same rate). They were great about taking apart furniture and putting it back together, and moving everything carefully so nothing broken. They even put items exactly where I asked at my new place! On top of all that, they were friendly and easy to talk to. I was pretty awkward about watching people work while I just stood around, and they kept me busy by chatting and giving me (probably) unnecessary tasks that made me feel helpful. If I ever move again (duh) I'll be hiring Mambo Movers without hesitation. They're simply the best! [note: they are cash, certified check or money order only. I called MM yesterday, hoping to schedule a move for this weekend. I was moving out of my boyfriend's house after a breakup, so clearly needed to move in a hurry. The rep told me they could fit me in the very next day- today. I didn't confirm the reservation like they asked, and woke up this morning praying they still had a space. Before 10am, I received a call from one of the crew asking whether I still wanted to move- prayers answered! From there, the three Mambo guys (Mamboans?) were easily the best part of my day. My scheduled time had to be pushed back, and they were super communicative and willing to work with me however I needed. Once they arrived, the guys were quick, super efficient, and fun. It took them only 25 minutes to load the van. They then waited patiently for me to meet them at the move location... And, when I got there, I popped a tire trying to park like a maniac. After some teasing and unloading, two of the guys actually changed my tire for me. It was incredible. They made a potentially super stressful situation fun, lighthearted, and completely enjoyable. I should also mention that all of my stuff was delivered in pristine condition and that the service was totally affordable ($232 for a studio-sized move). Best moving day ever. Book them!! read more

Best movers hands down. I was dreading my move from my apartment at Temple University to University City. Lots of traffic, small spaces, and heavy items. Talk about stress. These guys made the move effortless. They arrived right on time and had everything out of my old apt (2nd floor row home) in 15 minutes. Granted, I only had a few boxes, a kitchen table, my bedroom suite, queen size bed, and an arm chair. They loaded their truck up and headed to UC. Just as fast as they took the items out of my Temple apartment , they loaded them into my 3rd floor University City apartment. They put everything exactly where it needed to go, handled items gently, and even helped clean up a little. Within an hour of beginning my move, I was done! Bottom line: These guys are professional, punctual, and very friendly. If you are a damsel in moving distress, give them a ring! They will rescue you! read more

Mambo moved me the other day from a third floor walk-up to an apartment that consists of three floors (so lots of stairs on each end.) It got up to almost 100 degrees that day and Sam, Ave (sp? sorry!), and David were positive and professional throughout the move despite the extreme heat. Everything arrived at my new apartment intact and the entire process took just over two hours. One tip - my original quote included an additional $100 charge for loading zone permits, but they actually cost only $25 from the Phila streets dept, so I decided to get them myself (I needed two - one for each apt.) It was super easy to do online and it saved me $50. Overall, Mambo got the job done quickly and I would definitely use them again for my next move! read more

I used Mambo movers for a move this month. It was from a 4 story 2 bedroom apartment to a 3 story house. They quote a fair price, gave me a timeline and we were set. The movers arrived on time, and got straight to work. They handled all my furniture with care and effortlessly moved some heavy items down the stairs with ease. They were fast and friendly. They had an issue moving a couch through a tight space, but quickly found a solution getting us to the new place. Unloading the truck and setting up shop was fast and easy. The worst. In my first move, they took forever, took numerous breaks, delayed everything, had an attitude, and messed up my doors and walls. Had no idea. I gave the company the benefit of the doubt and scheduled them because I like their mission. They told me I was the second job. By noon they had not arrived. I'm pretty sure moving is not supposed to be an enjoyable experience. But the guys at Mambo Movers really do make it as easy as possible. They work with such ease its amazing to watch. I have no idea how they manage to carry all that stuff in! I did have one chair that just didn't want to make it down my tiny hallway. The movers took the time to scope out the building, and look into the option of hoisting it through a window. In the end, none of this worked, but they were willing to bring it back to the original location for me. It's amazing that a moving company is willing to go above and beyond. Cheap! Slow (7 hrs to move 1 bedroom apartment 10 blocks). Careless (Didn't tie down furniture in truck until I insisted. Expensive solid wood dressers/headboard knocked against walls. Didn't bungy/wrap or tie drawers in dressers). Cheap x Many hours = just as expensive as professional movers. Not recommended. EDIT: Just to note. If you have cheap furniture, don't care about it, or your walls, then these guys are probably for you. I've moved so many times, I can't even begin to count. Every time, I force some reluctant friends to help me lug my junk around. It takes me several days to move all of my crap in a combination of my car, my friends' cars, and rented UHaul trucks. This year, I decided, would be different. I'm never at home, as I travel quite a bit for work. Spending my only free time lugging crap through the busy streets of Philly did not seem appealing. If you've ever tried to drive a truck through Rittenhouse Sq, you know what I'm talking about. I found Mambo through the excellent reviews here on Yelp and decided to give them a go. I booked an afternoon appointment on a Saturday and started boxing up my stuff. One problem, and the only problem I had, was that they could not give me a solid time of when they would arrive (it depends on when the morning job is done). This was problematic, as the building I was moving out of required that the elevator be reserved in advance. Mambo gave me a call about 40 minutes before they were going to arrive and showed up in the afternoon, a bit earlier than when I had reserved the elevator. They took the passenger elevator and commandeered the cargo elevator, even though the desk staff was a bit unhappy. I, however, was quite happy. The last thing I wanted to do was stand around waiting for people to finish when I'm paying an hourly rate. Amazingly, the three guys emptied my entire 8th floor studio apartment in about 20 minutes. I know, I know, I can't believe it either. After emptying my apartment, they drove the gigantic Mambo truck (which could've fit my entire apartment 5 times over) down to West Philly. Unfortunately, my new place was a 2nd floor walk-up. That didn't stop Mambo. Multiple boxes which I could barely lift off of the ground were moved effortlessly. One guy even managed to strap my kegerator with CO2 bottle onto his back and bring it up the stairs. Amazing. One piece of furniture had to be disassembled, which was done in minutes. All in all, they finished in about 1.5hrs. I happily forked over the money, with a generous tip. They have a 2 hour minimum, but the rate is more than reasonable and they pro-rate anything above 2 hours. If, no when, I move again, I will be giving Mambo a call. Keep up the good work! read more

Moving is the worst, but Mambo is the best for a stress-free local move in Center City. I booked months in advance, and the staff was helpful and patient when I called multiple times with questions. On moving day everything went according to plan, even though the street was being repaved in front of my old place and the AC didn't work in the new one. Emanuel, Rob, and Gint were terrific: fast, efficient, and pleasant. I actually got some work done on my laptop while they loaded the truck, and I was able to begin unpacking as they unloaded and set up my furniture. Do yourself two favors before moving: plan ahead and pack everything well. Then call Mambo and schedule first thing in the morning on your moving day. read more

Moving stresses me out severely; I imagine I'm not alone there. We called for quotes from several local outfits and, after realizing they're all within the same ballpark, booked with Mambo. Of course, this final decision was influenced heavily by all the outstanding reviews, which at the same time gave me that "too good to be true" feeling. Not so! Ben, Pete, and Christian hauled ass, carefully, getting us set up in the new digs in no time. Our oversized couch took twenty minutes for the furniture delivery guys to get into our last place, without the legs on; Mambo's crew got it out without any fuss, legs and all. Mambo movers couldn't have worked out better. It wasn't as if they were so strong, but their sheer industriousness was amazing. They attacked our house like a swarm of ants, and it was picked clean in hours. Then the whole thing in reverse moving into our new crib. I've never used movers before, so I'm not sure if the $111 an hour is a good deal or not. But I define "good deal" as a)within my price range b)seemingly fair, and c) happy with what I got. I recently used Mambo Movers for a center city move from a high-rise apartment into a 4-story house, and it was overall a 4-star experience. Setting up a moving time over the phone was easy, even though I called only about 1 month ahead of time for a move during the busy month of May. Leading up to the move, it was easy to get in touch with them to confirm details and ask questions. The morning of the move, my crew of three movers arrived more or less on time. They were freakishly strong for their sizes, worked quickly (even though they charge by the hour), and were very pleasant to interact with. Even after tipping the guys, the final price was very reasonable. The experience would have been an easy 5 stars if we had not had some items damaged during the process. The moving crew actually told us about breaking the leg on a small table; we took responsibility for that since we knew it was old and more rickety than it looked, but had not labeled it as fragile. We later discovered that two mattresses had gotten quite dirty and, more significantly, an arm of our wooden sofa frame had been deeply scratched. Sigh - sometimes things happen when you move. I place a lot of weight on how a company responds when things don't go perfectly, and that is why this review is 4 stars in spite of the damage. When I contacted the company, the owner/manager was immediately apologetic and looked into the situation. He ended up basically asking what it would take for me to feel satisfied, and he agreed to refund a portion of the move cost that I suggested would be fair compensation. I am pleased that I chose Mambo Movers for this move, but I am also glad I decided to move our especially fragile things (electronics, glasses, mirrors etc.) ahead of time. I've used mambo twice - once for a move within the city, and once for burbs back to the city. They are courteous, timely, fast as can be and didn't break / lose / damage anything. Totally awesome dudes. Took off a star for pricing and scheduling - when I called to make my appt, the guy was kind of a jerk. They're a bit higher priced than others, only take cash or cashiers check, and their estimate was a little low - but these guys are worth every penny. I was super apprehensive about movers and the reviews that I got from friends as well as on Yelp. I can't stress enough how awesome the Mambo guys were. They were so quick and also the nicest three dudes you could ever want moving your entire life from place to place. Plus there was hoisting out of windows and onto balconies involved in moving me out which isn't the greatest but they did it expertly. Not to mention there was an issue with my new apartment not being finished and so we ended up having to put it in building storage quite literally at the last minute and they made sure all my stuff was secure and placed expertly into a small storage space. Tetris ninjas, seriously. No idea how they did it. Anyway, I highly recommend them. They were the greatest moving experience I've ever had. Also they are incredibly reasonably priced. They're cash only, pretty much. I came prepared but they were so quick it ended up being way cheaper than I was expecting. Wasn't mad about that. Definitely go with Mambo. read more

I have used Mambo for two moves and had a FANTASTIC experience both times. I recommend them to everyone. These guys are fast, super-efficient, and pleasant. You will never go back to the Uhaul/bribing-your-friends type of move ever again, I promise. read more
