Mamma Tomato Pizza ended up being the best part of our New Year's Eve, hands down. We stopped in while waiting for the countdown, and the pizza was delicious--fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. You can taste that the dough is freshly tossed and the pizza is handmade, not rushed or mass-produced. The service was about as fast as you can reasonably expect for fresh pizza, and it moved smoothly even with the NYE crowd. I also loved that you can watch them make the pizza right in front of you--there's something about seeing your food come together that just hits different. The vibe fit the moment perfectly. Busy, energetic, but not stressful, and the open kitchen and pizza oven added to the experience. If you're at POST Houston and need a solid food win, Mamma Tomato is it. I'd happily run this back on a regular day--not just for a holiday countdown.

Easily some of the best pizza I've ever had…read more Friendly staff upon walking in. We were seen once the line moved through to us. We had the order put in ahead of time and it was ready on time. The space is smaller but I think its designed to be that way. More so a spot to pickup and if need be theres a few tables in and outside to eat at. We ordered the pig and chicken pizza along with the truffled mushroom bruschetta. Both 10/10. The buschetta by itself can be an order. Good lord it was so good. Nutty, mushroom, cheesy crispy but not dry bread. Im a big toppings make the pizza guy. Perfect crust. I asked for it to be cooked a bit longer because i like really crispy edges. Good bread to topping ratio. You can tell the toppings arent just run of the mill stuff you put on top. The pizza was flavorful, the ricotta was creamy and gave a good cut through with the fatty meats on the pizza. Wonderful job talespin. I need to come back for the breakfast for dinner pizza.

Great char on the bottom, light crust, cupped pepperoni and sauce/cheese were good. The pizza looks amazing when you get it, presentation is 10/10. I bet if I would have customized it without ricotta, it would have been a lot better. Inside the stores decor is cool; skateboarding theme and I bet a lot of items are great on the menu. I wouldn't knock it and I will forsure come back.

    - Houston flavor with attitude…read more Gypsy Poet is one of those Houston spots where the pizza shows up acting like it's the headliner, and the drinks roll in like they're trying to renegotiate their contract. They're known for their artisanal, wood‑fired Neapolitan‑style pizzas and whimsical, eclectic atmosphere, and somehow they pull it off without feeling forced or theatrical. The dough has that confident chew -- not floppy, not stiff, just right. The toppings taste intentional, like someone actually sat down and said, "We're not doing mediocre today." Every slice feels like it's trying to impress you, and honestly, it does. Gypsy Poet's drink lineup is way stronger than you expect from a pizza parlor. The lemonade snaps -- bright, sharp, and ready to wake your whole brain up. The sangria is cold, fruity, and dangerously smooth -- the kind of drink that convinces you you're the funniest person in the building. The beer and wine selection stays reliable and unfussy, perfect for when you want flavor without theatrics. The atmosphere leans whimsical and eclectic, but not in a way that tries too hard. It feels like a creative studio that decided pizza was a better use of its time. Art everywhere, people everywhere, energy everywhere. Students, creatives, downtown workers, and that one person who looks like they're writing a screenplay about the place -- all in the mix without stepping on each other's vibe. It's lively, expressive, and very Houston in that "we're doing our own thing" way.

I especially enjoyed the pinto bean appetizer and the lasagna that was baked, resembling a pizza but with a lasagna bottom. Loved the mood of the restaurant and appreciated the olive oil ice cream they got us for my friend's birthday.
