Been to a few pizza spots in Houston and realized we hadn't tried this one yet so visited for lunch. First time here, not busy when we arrived although more started to come in as the afternoon progressed. Fun, rustic set up with mixed seating and a good amount of outdoor seating (too hot for that) -focal point is an area with steps (could be a play area) and a big screen TV. World Cup Futbol was on and it looks like this is a spot where you can watch Futbol if there is a match. Pies with enticing topping combinations made it hard to pick just two. We ordered the Dream Catcher and Troublemaker. Dream Catcher-you had me at Goat cheese and Truffle and the Fior Di Latte took it over the top! Troublemaker was also enjoyed with the Chicken Italian sausage which is not available everywhere. Bonus-house made tomato sauce-which was delicious. A couple of salads and desserts so it's all about the pizza here and that's just fine. Service was upbeat and engaged. They do have another location in the Heights. Stopped by the Midtown location on yesterday (Sunday) around 5:30 ish in the evening. And it was pretty full with a steady stream of people coming and going. The person taking my order was very helpful making recommendations for me , as I had mentioned it was my first time in. And after a few minutes of indecision , I finally made my mind up and went with the pepperoni madness and a Capresse salad to go. Well despite looking very appealing outwardly, after arriving home, I realized that my pepperoni madness pizza turned out to be not so "mad" afterall because it was lacking...Lacking in overall taste, cheesiness, pepperoni, and personality ! As for pizza, I usually go for the pepperoni madness. I also enjoyed the cappellone "big hat" pizza with truffle oil on top, it added an extra earthiness. Service is normally very quick and on top of it. The ambiance is immaculate with nice lighting and outdoor and indoor seating. It could be hard to find seating during busy hours. We came in hangry for pizza. This place is super chill. Many types of people in the dining space. There's a variety of tables: high, normal and stair seating. I've been meaning to try this popular artisan pizza spot for a while and so far my first impression is solid. We ordered a takeout pepperoni madness pie with hot honey which is served with fresh basil and Parm on the side. The pie was thin and crispy but still foldable with the right amount of chew. We came by for a late lunch on Saturday. Street parking, no parking lot. Typical for this part of Houston. Great vibes inside! You order at the counter and find an open seat. Good selection of beers and bottled sodas to add to your order. I ordered the Cinque Formaggi (added pepperoni) and the Pepperoni Maddness. Excellent pizzas!! I can only speak for my DoorDash experience, but this was one of the best gluten-free pizzas I've ever had. I also love how it's a normal-sized pizza and not a small. I had leftovers. I appreciate them having a normal GF crust and not cauliflower. (Can we please stop making cauliflower the ONLY gluten-free option?) By far one of the best pizzas I have ever had. The crust was cooked to perfection with the char on the edges. Also the hot honey was mixed perfectly. The presentation was also one of the best I have seen, especially for a pizza joint. They don't skimp on whatever you need. Gypsy Poet (Midtown) is our go to for consistent, delicious, cool atmosphere, easy going pizza joint. Went on a Saturday mid afternoon for a late lunch - wasn't too crowded, parking is a touch tricky - as you have to utilize neighborhood streets. There is an auto garage? or rando place next to it with a parking lot ; however, i don't think you are allowed to park there. To order "le Pizza" you need to line up at a counter, order, select drink from fridge that's near the counter, and the servers/waiters will bring the pizza out to you. Seating is ample, little tables , couple sofas with coffee tables, high tables, a bar area, outside patio, and this semi elevated bleacher thing along the back wall.. We always get the Pepperoni Madness - house tomato sauce, large pepperoni's and hot honey (mild) , and my kids get the cheese pizza. They sprinkle sliced hard cheese, arugula, and a chili flakes on the side of the plate the pizza comes on. Crust is crispy, and stays manageble even after 5 minutes of receiving the pizza.. I 'm not a fan of pizza that looks amazing, is thin, but when you go to lift the slice out, it turns out to have the consistency of wet tissue paper. I also note that these slices are cut well... i detest! when you go to take a slice and that slice pulls alllll the cheese and toppings off neighboring slices, and then you are tasked to fix that. By that point, your slice looks like a lunchable and you've put more work than you should to eat a slice of pizza. Anyways - the pizza is consistently devoured, and non soggy - even when taken home, My kids love the cheese pizza - They usually eat like birds, but here at Gypsy poet that are gluttonous pigs. Fortunately my daughter did, and she ordered three. After first bite I caught on. Two pizzas wouldn't have been enough. In fact, as it turned out, three weren't enough. We couldn't keep from indulging. Ha! And there were only three of us! So my advice is, that when you order, get as many pizzas as you think you'll need, then add one or possibly two on top of it. The OG Gypsy Poet spot is located in Midtown off of a fairly nondescript street. Parking is available on adjacent streets. There's indoor and outdoor seating and service is quite minimal; order at the front and they'll bring you your food and that's it. We came by for lunch on Friday and got the cinque formaggi, fancy backpacker, and dream catcher. Some of their pizza options are honestly too similar to each other and the menu could definitely be condensed to a degree. I've been to their Heights location and the quality is very comparable. The crust was cooked well, if not slightly burnt on some parts. The dream catcher with the goat cheese topping was probably the favorite of the bunch. Just tried Gypsy Poet for the first time and just felt disappointed. We ordered the pepperoni pizza with hot honey as well as the Margherita. I found that the pizza itself was bland. The dough was very tough and just a bit thin for me personally. Our jaws were exhausted after all of the chewing necessary. I wish the flavor was kicked up a few notches (or a bunch of notches actually..) because it had good flavor, however it just didn't shine through. As I walked in the service wasn't horrible, however it felt as if I was an inconvenience to the worker who assisted me. Everyone gets busy and everyone has bad days so I wouldn't say that will be everyone's experience, however for mediocre pizza the service has to be exceptional and it just isn't... We did not eat inside the restaurant, instead we ordered take out, however there's a nice outside seating area that seems pretty pleasant. Inside was also nice and clean with good ambiance.
