Bob is awesome. I locked my keys in my 2009 BMW 328i on my way to the mountain to go skiing. A terrible way to start the day. I called AAA and they told me that I had a high-security car and there's nothing they can do to help me. I called mammoth lock and key and Bob looked up on the Internet how to open my car. He found an obscure reference on a site and found that he could open it through the trunk. He found the right wire to activate and using a needle and a 12 V power source he was able to pop the trunk open. I was truly amazed and very thankful. Bob is a GEM! Recently I lost my ONLY electronic key while skiing at Mammoth, in the April blizzard. It was very stressful as we have 4 kids, needed to leave the mountain, and it was snowing hard. Bob was calm and EXTREMELY HELPFUL. He tried to rearrange his schedule to accommodate us and was very transparent about the work and cost to 'reflash' our car's computer system. He offered to make two trips to the Mammoth Mountain Inn (in the blizzard) to start working on it, however, in the meantime my key turned up!! Very unreliable. If you're stranded at 4:30 don't expect them to come help you out even though they say they close at "5:00PM." The reason they said they couldn't come is because it would take them 30 min to get up to the lodge. You're in Mammoth but you won't operate a little up the mountain. Amazing!! Give him a call before anyone else in the area, I made the mistake of going with one of his competitors who could not get the job done (and still made me pay). He does car keys that require chips in them - so if you loose your entire key ring you can just go to him instead of two people. Also just a side note - the guy I called first did not re-attach the lock hinge in the trunk so I had to go with a broken trunk lock for about two months until I ran into the owner (of Mammoth lock & key) randomly at the bank the other day. He remembered that he did some work for me and actually fixed the botched job his competitor did on my car right there in the parking lot for free (and if your reading this thank you again)!! I've been camping around Mammoth/Bishop area for a month and ever now and then I'd have trouble turning the ignition key on my 1996 Toyota 4Runner. Well it got so bad I was getting concerned about getting stuck miles back on some trailhead and finally it took over an hour to get started and that was it: Fix it or go home. I called Bob and he met me in town within the hour and made me a new key. Well it worked better but Bob was not satisfied with just 'better'. He figured the ignition was going bad in the steering colum, quickly pulled the dash down and confirmed that it could be reached and replaced. He called the local Napa Auto parts store, they had a replacement. He drove down and got it and came back a installed it in 10mins. I got an extra set of keys and he emailed me a picture of the old key along with the code in case it was needed in the future. All I can say is that I was very impressed with his service and I couldn't have had it done any less expensive at home. I'm very happy and recommend Bob wholeheartedly. On our recent trip to Mammoth one of the cars (2002 GMC Yukon) suffered an ignition key malfunction where the key could not be turned in the lock. After agonizing over an hour attempting to solve the problem we called 2 local locksmiths. Luckily we got Bob who came promptly and determined what the problem was and would fix it the next day since we had to go to Bishop to get the part. While in Bishop he called the auto parts store to ensure we received the right part! That was amazing. The next day he came at 9 as promised and began working on the problem. He finally got the lock out and replaced it after drilling for a couple of hours. Then it happened...the stupid security system kicked in and the car would start then die within seconds. Bob figured it was the security system and began an arduous journey in attempting to re-program the system all the while informing me what he intended to do. After several failed attempts and 6 hours later, (after scouring the internet for possible solutions) he got it to start! The bottom line is how many business owners do you find now days that show this kind of competence, dedication, and pride in doing a job right? I feel a lesser professional would have given up after a couple of attempts but Bob took this situation as a challenge and a learning moment to better his trade skills. Without Bob, I'm sure the Yukon would be sitting in a Mammoth repair shop. I highly recommend Bob for ANY lock issue! read more

I had a blank key for a 2015 Chev Malibu that needed engraving. Bob met me in the parking lot of RiteAid in his van and accurately engraved my key like the one I had. He explained how to program it in my car. It took less than 20 minutes. I took it back to my car and followed his directions and everything came out perfect. Bob is very direct but informative over the phone. When I lost my one and only proximity key to my 2015 Kia Sorento, Bob stayed on the phone with me for close to an hour to fully explain my options. Unfortunately (under no fault of Bob's) my best option was to return to San Diego and purchase a replacement key from the dealership, however it couldn't be programmed without the vehicle present, but Bob felt he could. He probably spent over an hour, cumulatively, this next day through a number of calls back and forth to ensure that he could program the key from the dealership and help me avoid a 6-7 hour drive (each way) if he wouldn't be able to program the key. With all of Bob's information and a little info gathered from the dealership, I drove back to Mammoth and Bob met me at my car. After a few initial communication hiccups with the programming software (which apparently is fairly common), Bob's determination paid off and he got my new key programmed and saved the day (my other option was to tow the car to the nearest dealership which was several hundred miles away $$$). When all was said and done, Bob charged a VERY reasonable fee for all his time, information and effort, and ultimately saved me a bunch of money! I highly recommend his services! read more
