I caught a virus in January and blew my nose so much that I felt my head was very stuffed. Saw my primary doctor and with my work schedule saw him a month later. I was having trouble hearing and was ready to own up to getting a hearing aid. He cleaned both ears and was able to hear and it sounded like people were shouting!!! I did do the hearing test and I hate to admit it, as I am getting older, I will need to look at options. Great news , no hearing aid yet but was able to have a baseline. Dr. Leung is wonderful. First off, I was able to make an appointment very quickly. If my a schedule was permitting, I could have seen him within two weeks of calling. Usually, I have to wait three months to see a specialist after a referral. Also, my wait time was no more than 10 minutes past my appointment time. I really appreciated that as well. Dr. Leung was very thorough and explained everything to me during the appointment. After we decided on a treatment plan that included a prescription, it was ready at my pharmacy within two hours of my appointment--fantastic! I also noticed that everything in the office was also in another language, like the forms. The office staff and the doctor are bilingual--at least in English and Chinese. I would not recommend his services. He is liberal with his billing and you are at his mercy when the bill arrives in the mail. I spent less than 5 minutes with him and he charged me for a "complex" procedure. This was a repeat visit for the same issue his partner worked on. Getting a tonsillectomy from Dr. Leung is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I had protruding tonsils that caused food/particles to get stuck in the crevices, constant tonsillitis and strep throat, and an uncomfortable feeling of the tonsils rubbing against the back of my throat when doing any sort of running/cardio. After getting strep multiple times in a year and coughing to the point of gagging, I decided to finally get help. I went to Dr. Leung's office to get a consultation, and he advised me that my case wasn't severe enough to be deemed a medically necessary tonsillectomy and was considered a 'quality of life' issue, but that he would submit the insurance claim anyway. Fortunately, it went through, and after a pre-operative counseling session, I was able to have the operation during my 1.5 week university break. I'd never had any operations before, not even wisdom tooth removal, so I was VERY nervous. The operation took place early in the morning at St. Francis hospital, and the nurses were very kindly. Dr. Leung and the anesthesiologist checked in on me before prepping for the procedure. After being wheeled into the operating room, the anesthesiologist put an IV in my arm, and before I could count down from 5 I was knocked out. Next thing I knew, I was lying in the recovery room. "That's it?" I said (to my amazement, I was able to speak right away...it was painful but possible). According to my mother, the doctor sent her to pick up some pain medications and she was still at the pharmacy when the doctor called her to tell her that I was ready in the recovery room! Dr. Leung is a diligent and efficient surgeon, and I didn't even need to open the hydrocodone he prescribed! After a week of ice packs and protein beverages, I was able to start my new semester, no complications :) and best of all, it's been a good four years since the operation, and I haven't had strep throat even once! Dr. Leung has been my ENT doctor for the past 2-3 years and has been great! My allergies have improved significantly and he gave me an option that's very convenient for me, especially with my schedule. The front desk staff are also very helpful and kind. The only complaint I have is that the staff member who helps with the allergy sprays/shots has a bad attitude sometimes and speaks in a condescending manner. I'm a healthcare worker and never speak to my patients in that way. I never bring up that I'm a healthcare worker but I am very well aware proper bedside manners. I had vertigo for two days and I couldn't find anyone that would see me soon. Dr. Leung fit me in his schedule within the hour. The front desk personnel was very helpful and friendly, she even told me where to park! This doctor is incredible - WOW! WOW! WOW! I had an emergency issue where I couldn't swallow and I felt like there was a lump in my throat. I have small tumors in my thyroid so I thought maybe they were impinging my windpipe or something. Long story short, my MD sent me to Dr. Leung and his office got me in right away. I was a little concerned as his office was in the middle of Chinatown and in a building where some of the offices had an unsavory quality. However, his actual office is very nice. Further, I appreciate that he doesn't just have a fancy office downtown but also keeps one in Chinatown so that he can serve his own ethnic community there as well! One of Dr. Leung's front desk staff was not friendly (except when he was standing right near them) and I felt they were kind of rude at some points, but it wasn't a big deal. Onto Dr. Leung himself - he is awesome! He is patient, kind and communicates well. He talked to me in layperson's terms. He also warned me about coverage for insurance BEFORE he does in-office procedures...he doesn't wait for me to be surprised until later, like most other doctors I have received services from. Dr. Leung called me several times after my visit with him to make sure I was feeling ok and check up on me. I felt that he truly cared about me as a patient. He doesn't have the pretentious attitude I would expect from a doctor who has AMAZING credentials from Ivy League Schools and many recognitions in the medical community. Thank you Dr. Leung! I wouldn't recommend. Yes, it's easy to book same day appointment and I only had to wait 5ish min once I got there. But there's a reason for that. He spent less than 5 min with me. Told me my dizziness didn't have anything to do with my ears. Said he would double-check my MRI, but he never double-checked that. I went to another ENT a few days later who spent more time with me - ran through a series of tests for my hearing, balance, checking my neck, etc. He helped conclude that I had vestibular neuritis and gave me ways to manage my symptoms. Dr. Leung and his staff were able to fit me in at a moment's notice due to uncontrollable nosebleed. I went straight to an ENT since a GP would have referred me to one anyway. His office on Bush Street is not far from my office, but today, he was practicing in his Chinatown office on Pacific. Front desk very courteous and professional, both of them. Doc and staff are fluent in English and Cantonese. The staff got me in the exam room imediately and Doc saw me within 5 minutes. In his thorough exam and treatment, he clearly explained every step of the way. He recommended if the problem persisted that a different procedure could be done but not this time to avoid the cost. Seemed like more questions concerning insurance than other MD's I've seen which makes me think the practice may have gotten stiffed. Likewise, as another reviewer said, it helps to curb the surprise costs. Genuinely a great bedside manner and I felt the treatment was made with great dignity. He's Board Certified, UCSF educated, Stanford residency (despite bleeding all over my keyboad, I was able to google him before making the call). I am very impressed with the care provided. read more

He's very friendly and definitely takes time to explain what he's looking at and makes sure you know all the options. I had a tonsillectomy surgery with the doctor, the problem is he didn't call me back after the surgery or even give me an appointment. Now I'm recovering from the surgery. I have a pain and very dry mouth I did it like 6 days ago. He should at least make an appointment for me at least see me check if I'm healing right or wrong. For any patients just go to better doctor, I watched a lot of doctor on YouTube who did the surgery, they give them a call and make an appointment at least. So just avoid him. read more

By far the worst experience I've ever had at a doctor's office. There's a reason this physician had zero wait time and many available appointments. My expectations were a lot higher from a Harvard graduate MD. Lets start with the office itself, in the middle of China Town SF and I was literally afraid walking through the hallways to get to his office. The plaster was falling of everywhere and construction happening next door. It truly makes me wonder if the office meets the health code safety. It doesn't look like a medical building or meet hygienic or esthetic standards one would expect of a medical office. I went right in, which was great. As a new patient , no one took my temperature or weight ( just blood pressure) . And the physician had absolutely no diagnosis and wanted to put me on very strong and ridiculously expensive medication when he was not even sure if it would solve the problem. I ultimately ended up diagnosing myself by taking guesses and he said " Yeah, it could be that". I felt like he had no idea what he was doing and just shooting in the dark with hopes that he would get lucky and solve my illness. Never going back and have a really high co-pay as well so it was really a lose, lose for me. I actually went online to his license to make sure he's a real doctor afterwards. He has one but really makes me wonder how he's managed to keep up a business at such a low standard..... read more

I saw Dr. Man-Kit Leung on the recommendation of a good friend of mine (who also happens to be a doctor). The reason I went in was because I had a deviated septum and severe sinus blockage which often caused recurrent infections and difficulty breathing. Simply put, my experience with Dr. Leung and others in his office has been nothing short of amazing. I am routinely able to get appointments on a few days notice and have never waited for more than 10-15 minutes after arriving. His staff is friendly, consistently available via phone, and phenomenal at coordinating with other offices (e.g. the clinic where I received my MRI and the hospital where I had surgery). The doctor himself is patient, understanding, and willing to go to extraordinary lengths to explain his diagnosis and recommendations. The day of my surgery (which was at CPMC), Dr. Leung sought me out in case I had questions or concerns both before and after the procedure. Moreover, he provided his own follow-up instructions in writing (which were much better than the hospital's generic instructions), and even provided a device of his own making to help bleeding--which was much more comfortable than the "packing" I'd seen others get for the same procedure. (If you're curious, the mask itself is something like a generic surgeon's mask but only about two inches thick with replaceable gauze on the inside. It's worn over the nose during the day of and after surgery to stem bleeding). While I have not yet sufficiently recovered from the procedure to talk about it's long-term effects, Dr. Leung has specialized in this kind of surgery (doing a fellowship at Harvard) and written many journal articles on the subject. While my breathing is not 100% yet (due to normal post-op inflammation), I can feel a physical difference in my nose and sinuses which I'm sure will improve with time. Bottom line: If you have any type of nose or sinus issue and have been considering seeking treatment, you will not find a better overall medical experience outside of Dr. Leung's office. Do yourself a favor and make an appointment, and you'll be breathing easier in no time. _____ UPDATE: It's been a few months since my procedure, and I am happy to say that everything has healed very nicely. It is very difficult to describe what it's like to go from being able to breathe out of like 40% of your nose to 90% or 100%. Imagine you've been congested with a cold where you can't breathe out your nose very well, and finally feel better and can breathe again. A note on follow-up visits: while I have no problems getting appointments or being seen promptly, the follow-up procedures for a septoplasty are pretty intense. I won't go into detail, and I certainly do not blame Dr. Leung (he was great throughout the entire somewhat gory experience), but it's something to consider when you're getting a septoplasty. It's not a breeze by any means, but you will be very thankful you've had it done. All the visits and the procedure itself ran me between $1500 and $2500, and I would've gladly paid double for the relief I've gotten from this operation. And again, if you're thinking of having a sinus procedure done, make no mistake: this is your guy. read more

So that whole hippocratic oath doesn't apply here. I took off work and arrived to my appointment very ill. I was turned away because they lied and said they don't accept my plan. My insurance called them and argued with them. They made it very clear that Dr. Leung is contracted to provide me care but he refuses....isn't that fraud? The office gave my insurance a tax id and said they (my insurance) should resolve it...but Dr. Leung is indeed contracted under my covered CA plan. I know my plan doesn't pay well and I know we little people should go home sick, lose the pay from taking off work and shut up, but I am so sick...sick of the holy money god (they said they would cut me a deal and see me if I would give them cash in hand!)....that oath they upheld...the other one...do no harm...remember that one..well you are failing. I cannot believe that this doctor could have such high reviews. I always think that the people who write "I joined Yelp just so I could write this bad review" must be exaggerating, but here I am doing it. My first visit, I waited for half an hour, only to receive about 5 minutes of his time, during all of which he kept trying to get out of the room. I'd have to blurt out the next question each time he was headed for the door. He made me feel like I was completely inconveniencing him by asking questions when, I would learn later, his office would charge me $250 for those 5 minutes (post-insurance I will owe $130). When I said I was thinking of seeing an allergist too, he pushed on me that HE does allergy testing, and I must wait a month to see HIM to do it. Which brings me to the next part of the story. When I came in for my allergy testing, an NP conducted the whole testing. She was extremely informative, knowledgeable, and patient, and I would have paid good money to see just her. She helped get me my results, and we talked them over. Then, she said, we could have a nice consultation with Dr. Leung. Then begins the part where I sit awkwardly in a chair for 20 minutes while the NP goes out to ask Dr. Leung to please come speak with me NO LESS THAN 4 times. Finally, he comes in, and this meeting could not have been more than 2 minutes. It was basically "ok you're allergic to these things... you can get allergy shots with me for 5 years if you want" and tried to escape. I did my best to ask as many questions as I could, but he so clearly didn't want to be speaking with me that I eventually gave up. Thankfully, the NP gave me some good info, so I am on the way to dealing with my allergies without the unnecessary shots. Dr. Leung never gave me the chance to really ask questions and learn my story, which probably would have given him different suggestions, and he never made me feel like he even wanted to help me. I don't know if he just has too many patients or not, but I would never recommend this guy to any family member or friend, ever. I have a primary care doctor, an eye doctor, a periodontist, and a dentist that were all the first people I went to in their fields and I've appreciated all of them, so I'm not some crazy never-going-to-be-happy person. To me this guy seems to be after having the most patients so that he can get the most $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. read more

Dr. Leung's work on relieving pressure from my sinuses was nothing short of an absolute miracle. I went from not being able to smell (literally -- I had no sense of smell), not being able to breath through my nose, and having to carry around a box of tissues (no exaggeration -- a whole %$#@ box) everywhere because my nose was constantly running, to being 100% back to normal. I can smell, I can breath through one nostril at a time even and haven't opened a box of tissues in the three months since he operated on me. I developed a terrible allergy, couldn't breathe, constant itching, running nose, sneezing so much that my back would hurt, my nostrals were raw, I didn't know what to do, my treating physician told me to take over the counter meds, called benadryl, it didn't work. I called my treating physician and told me to take nitekol, it only put me to sleep. I decided to seek help for an specialist, so I found Dr. Leung. I didn't have to wait hours to see him and when he examined me, he was so professional and explained in detail what I had. He has a wonderful personality, humble, caring and gentle. This office is known to have horrible customer service. It is not easy to get an appointment because of the stuck up receptionist. I came in here on time and was told my appointment was cancelled. Then the receptionist prevented me from seeing the doctor by making my barrier to seeing him extremely high.
