As a gay male couple getting married, we were first interested in Micah & Megan because their style was not poofy, princessy, bride-centric, or gauzy. Instead, M&M have a photojournalistic and architectural approach to photography. They are fantastic at letting the moment, the surroundings, and the couple influence how and where they took photos. They scouted out our venue ahead of time and were prompt and ready to go. We also didn't want a photographer with memorized poses for man + wife who would then just put two guys into those same poses. No worries there, either. They knew us well enough to know how to get fantastic shots out of us with minimal posing or prodding. They also made our families and friends feel comfortable and open, which resulted in fantastic candids. Their architectural and stylistic eye allowed for some unexpected and truly stunning photographs. After the wedding, the turn around time for teaser photos and the full set of photos was quick and the quality of the photos was truly stunning. Such amazing color, clarity, contrast, and context! I'm not that much of a sentimental person, but I've found myself looking at our pictures over and over again, largely because of how breathtaking they are. M&M were incredibly upfront and transparent about their pricing. The payment process was simple and their documentation was clear and unambiguous. I promise other event planners exist that are willing to provide exceptional service even to those who don't have extravagant budgets. I had been following Fig & Whiskey on Instagram for a while because Billye Donya (who is an amazing photographer) often photographs parties that F&W puts together and I always thought they looked amazing. So, when the time came to plan the 1st birthday party of my rainbow baby after years of infertility and a miscarriage, I reached out to her because I wanted this party to be extra special. After all, there were years I thought I would never get to experience this milestone. I explained to Sarah that using her is a major splurge even for the minimal services she would be able to provide me with my budget and the reason why I was willing to do it. I also believed that since this is her speciality, she would know of vendors I didn't and would be able to provide savings through her relationships with certain vendors. Isn't that one of the main reasons people use event planners? So we decided that for $500 (paid upfront) she would curate a list of decorations and rentals for me and then I could decide what I wanted to use and she would help to purchase them and have them delivered to my house. She came to my house to check out the space which she mentioned is not something she normally does for a client like me. This is usually something she does for the clients purchasing one of her larger packages. I appreciated that she was willing to come meet me in person anyway. She came over, looked around our backyard, we talked about my expectations and wishlists, and then said she'd follow up with options. She sent me a deck of 3 or 4 pages and most of the items on there were things I had already found on Etsy myself and other things were overpriced. She clearly was not keeping my personal budget in mind and why was I paying someone to do Etsy searches for me? I had asked if she could find better pricing for certain things and it would take her about a week to respond with other options still out of budget. Each time I would reach out to her with questions or needing help finding new options, it would take her at least a week to respond back to me. I quickly realized that I was not a priority to her because I wasn't one of her big package clients and with how unresponsive she was, I wouldn't be able to trust that she would be paying attention to shipping and delivery times and get everything ordered in time for the party. So, after about 3 additional emails, I decided to go it alone. I purchased the things I wanted from Etsy and then did the research myself to find more affordable dupes of other items on her list. Once I stopped emailing, so did she. As the event date approached, she never once reached out checking in. Never asked if I made any decisions. Never asked what she could order for me. Never followed up. It's been a year and a half and I still have never heard from her. After the event date passed, she still never checked in. Never apologized for dropping the ball. Never asked how everything went. She had absolutely no problem taking $500 from me and giving me nothing in return.

After doing some searching I came across FIG and Whiskey. After one phone call with Sarah ALL concerns went out the window. Sarah had less than a week to pull together a baby shower with the" twinkle twinkle" theme. Sarah left no stone unturned to give the kids the most incredible shower! I'm usually self-conscious when it comes to taking pictures, but i did get great direction from Vince and Ed (his other photographer before Carla was able to make it), which made the experience less nerve wrecking. After seeing all the pictures from the engagement shoot, i had total trust in Vince's direction for what husband and I should do during our photo shoot. My sister and my friend booked them a couple of months after our wedding after seeing how easy it was to work with Vince and Carla. Highly recommend them to everyone. =)
