I went to Mattress Discounter's and Sleep Train before coming to Manciini's, and I thought Mancini's was the best of the three. Why? First of all, they include the free delivery/set-up/bedframe in every mattress set; none of the other places do that. Second, the salesman I got (Simar) was wonderful and absolutely willing to give me a discount off the sticker price. When I went to Sleep Train, the salesmen were rude and unwilling to give me any discounts whatsoever. Anyway, so the buying experience was pleasant; it was low-pressure and everything felt above-board. That's important to me because I don't like the sleazy feeling that you get from some mattress stores. But what's really made me a fan of Mancini's is their 30-day comfort guarantee. I was not sure how they would react when I wanted to take advantage of it -- a lot of places give a customer a hard time about exchanges and whatnot. But Manicini's was AWESOME about the exchange. They showed me just as much courtesy and attention when I went back in to find a different mattress as they had when I was buying initially, and Simar even gave me a discount off the price of the replacement mattress so that I didn't have to pay much of a difference. We went to Mancini's in Berkeley to shop around for a new mattress. The showroom is huge with a lot different mattresses to look at. When we walked in we were warmly greeted by Jonathan Dennis. Jonathan was friendly, knowledgable, and patient. He listened to our wants and needs and provided us with multiple options. We bought our new bed and it was delivered to us a week later. I had a great experience here, despite hearing horror stories about mattress buying. Darren helped me out, and he was really knowledgeable and attentive. He had me lay on a few beds first to figure out what type of feel I was looking for. As soon as I expressed my interest in a high quality beds, but at lower pricing, he showed me a few beds in the clearance section, and we narrowed the options down. I ended up getting a clearance bed that was in the warehouse (I tried out the new one on the floor). I bought my first real mattress here. Usually i go with what cheapest, but i decided i needed a new one. No hard sells here. Mike helped me and actually was pretty helpful. I am sure that I could have saved a few bucks going to costco, but I feel better having had the opportunity to lay on and bounce around on a bunch of different mattresses and see how they performed. I recommend using Saeng as a salesperson. Great knowledge and no pressure. Mancini's actually does the shopping for you. Other stores ads were posted in the showroom. We didn't need to look anywhere else. The selection was top notch. Every brand seemed to be represented there...other stores don't carry the particular brand we were looking for. We also looked at kids furniture and everything was solid wood...not the cheap stuff we previously bought from furniture "worlds" and "marts". Learned our lesson with those type of stores. We purchased a mattress and box spring from Mancini's Sleep World's Ashby location about 6 months ago. The sales person who worked with us (Mike, a manager) was very patient and accommadating. We kept going back-and-forth between mattresses until we finally settled on one. We were able to get the set for a great price (we had done our homework and new what same-brand/comparable-model mattresses were going for elsewhere). Delivery of the mattress set was fast and on schedule. The box spring that we ordered was too tall for the bed frame we had recently ordered from another company, so we called Mike a few weeks later and he swapped out the too-tall box spring with one that was the right height. We weren't charged for the exchange either. Great service and great price = great experience. Would at least recommend seeking out Mike if you visit the Ashby location. read more

Its the best bed in the world and best I have ever slept on.

This is my first yelp review, and I feel it is being used wisely. Today I went in to buy a new mattress and was extremely pleased with the service. I had expected to be followed around by a salesperson trying to sell me the most expensive mattress. Instead, the store manager, Jerry, greeted me at the door, made sure I knew he was there to answer any questions, but then let me browse the store at my own leisure. For the first hour, he checked in with me every once in a while and was extremely helpful. The guy could not have been more knowledgeable of the different types of beds and various companies. (I read a couple articles about buying a mattress before walking into the store, so I wasn't going to be fooled by any talk about coil count). Anyway, for the next two hours, and I mean two hours, I was left in peace as tested the various mattresses. Eventually, I fell asleep, and that's the mattress I purchased. The only bummer, is the mattress isn't able to be delivered for a week, but I think it has more to do with the manufacturer than anything. And it's free, so I can't really complain. I was overwhelmed so much that I put it off for a month and slept on a spare bed with a broken box spring. I browsed at Ikea a month ago and Mattress Discounters both in SF and in the East Bay on San Pablo. Their service was more than just lacking. All they cared about was getting the sale and couldn't even remember the size I was shopping for after they actually decided to help. Nothing like the Berkeley Mancini's. I was immediately greeted, asked about my needs and my budget and given the space I needed to test and retest the mattresses. Alicia Scott was amazing but I also observed the rest of the staff was very helpful and checked in with me when I came back later the same day to complete the purchase (had to mull it over). There was absolutely no pressure and every single question I asked was answered in detail. The patience and understanding was really quite impressive. I spent more than I had anticipated but I really think I found the right mattress and felt comfortable throughout the entire process. Bought a Aireloom Solitude medium firm at Mancini. The service and delivery were fine. They have a FABULOUS 120 day return policy where they suggest that you sleep on it for at least 30-60 days before even thinking about a return. We lasted about 45 days and decided that it was not quite firm enough and exchanged for a extra firm. Realize that the feel of a mattress is a matter of personal preference. Understood, but the Aireloom Solitude extra firm is simply, by far, the best mattress we have ever had. It is perfect. I would never buy a mattress from a dealer that does not have the Mancini exchange policy. There were no questions, no arguments, just did it. Delivered on time efficiently. Terrible customer service. I was paying for my daughter's mattress. They wouldn't take my credit card info over the phone and weren't clear about what was happening. They took a deposit on my card without telling me the actual amount. They said they had to call the district manager (about what?) and call me back, but didn't. I ultimately went to the store where they mentioned fraud and told me "it was for MY protection." Total BS. My credit card company protects ME against fraud. (Been there, done that.) So what was their motive for making me jump through hoops???? read more

He walked us through the shop with the mattresses that we would be interested in, letting us compare the prices and the pros and cons. My 86 year old father needed to purchase new beds for the master bedroom and guest room so I went online and checked out what was available in the Eastbay. I came up with about a dozen retailers and then read reviews and phoned a few stores. Jason at Mancini's picked up the phone immediately and answered all my questions so we drove down to check out their inventory. The store is massive with many choices. I had some idea of what was needed and Jason guided us in the correct direction and educated us about the products as well. Neither my father nor I had shopped for mattresses in over 20 years so we had a lot to learn as mattress construction and materials have changed radically. After having tried about 6 beds we made our decisions, purchased the beds and set up a delivery time. Jason was instrumental in helping us accomplish all this in about an hour which was a great relief as I had initially thought we might have to spend at least half a day running around to different stores. We purchased a Serta Wellbeing Refined California King Gel Memory Foam bed for the master bedroom and a queen size Serta Gel Memory Foam floor model for the guest room. We spent waaaaaay more than I had anticipated on the California King but in all honesty the bed is soooooo comfortable it's totally worth it! I highly recommend Mancini's! My husband and I purchased our bed (under warranty) from this Mancinis' location a little over 2 years ago, where recently the mattress was showing significant sagging and wear. We contacted the store in which they organized a 3rd party to come out and assess the bed's state to see if it falls under warranty provisions. The claim was denied by the manufacture and it seemed we were stuck w/ a very expensive sagging bed. The manager of the store, Gerry, took a second look at the bed's photos and assessment and pushed the manufacture to replace the mattress for us. He even got Mr. Mancini involved in the case! 2 weeks later our mattress was replaced, thanks to Gerry and his amazing customer service and ability to create a case for us.
