She gave, hands down, some of the BEST customer service I've had in Jacksonville... period. She was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and made me feel genuinely welcome from start to finish. Cutely decorated in asian decor. It's actually very well lit for pictures too! lol I ordered the Spicy Chicken Pad Thai, and it was incredible. The flavor was spot on with just the right amount of heat. I also had the lettuce wraps. They were a little sweeter than my personal preference, but they were still fresh, flavorful, and very well made. Great food, exceptional service, and an experience that makes you want to come back. What a great place we have been saying we should try, now its or new favorite Asian restaurant. We ordered some sushi, which was attractive and tasty as an appetizer. My wife had a Pad Thai dish and I tried a hibachi grill dinner that included steak and chicken which you choose, other options included strip, salmon, or scallops. I was surprised when the waitress asked how I liked my steak, most Asian restaurants don't care you get what you get. the Steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce was perfect too. There were a mix of well prepared grilled vegetables and fried rice to complete my dinner. The portions were large and filling. We liked that the menu had items from many Asian countries and regions including; Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, and others. We will definitely be back to try the Bento boxes and Noodle dishes. I was on my way elsewhere but had to stop in the small plaza where Mandarin is located and decided to make a first visit there instead and and did not regret the choice. I was rewarded with an excellent, filling meal in cool, comfortable, moderately sophisticated surroundings, While I have a longstanding appreciation of cheap Chinese food from Mom-and-Pop operations serving all the standards, cheap, the Mandarin is several worlds above most in terms of comparatively sophisticated, well-coordinated decor, table service. Initially gave it a "4", but the more I thought about itm the food, the atmosphere, the service, there was nothing missing, and the cost was reasonable, so we're going up to 5. There's a lot that looks worth trying on that menu. My Hibachi Steak lunch special was a generous serving and the flavors perfection from the beef and vegetables to the perfectly cooked rice. Staff was courteous and competent and the dining area clean. Full bar available. Compares well with the renown Cherry Blossom Noodle Cafe in Phoenix, Az. I look forward to going back soon. Best dish was Ramen soup. Worst dish was shrimp with lobster sauce. It was terrible, watery and tasteless. It had that in common with the hot and sour soup. Thin, watery and missing the taste. Also fooled us because their menu had soup included but the new menu took that out. When I ordered over the phone they could have said something about the soups like 'They are not included anymore. What a gem! It's in a very unassuming storefront next to a WalMart. DO NOT LET THAT FOOL YOU. It is absolutely excellent. The service was prompt and kind. They were able to help us make customized dishes without us promoting. It's a nice, calm atmosphere inside. The food was impeccable. We got a couple dishes to share around the table. Needed to do an update review of this establishment. I am usually so pleased with the food. This time, however I was disappointed to say the least. As you can see in the photos the calamari is so overcooked some are burnt. It was like chewing thick paste. Was not plensent . The avacado that was used for my sushi was brown is spots the vegetable had turned and they used it. I will still continue to come but hopes that this was a just one in a million chance of a bad day in the kitchen . Here's to better next time. read more

Great chinese! This is a very nice and quaint establishment, very well decorated, with fantastic service. We started with the salt and pepper calamari, which was very delicious, though a bit chewy. We ordered from the pick and choose protein and sauce/preparation menu items (a number of great options to choose from!). We had the spicy eggplant combo and the spicy szechuan combo -- both were perfectly seasoned, good sized portions, and so well made. This restaurant is small but the food and service are always great! We enjoy dining here a few times per month.

Lots of deep fried things that are probably great when you are in restaurant but kept the choices a little more limited for takeout. Still a nice variety of items that were well packaged, so we still recommend. Their ramen is really quite bad - dried huge cap shiitake mushrooms, a clump of enoki, cucumber and carrot...cucumber??? In hot soup? Who does that?? The broth was flavorless, the noodles clumpy, even the pork belly was just wrong. SKIP the ramen. Really. Don't get it. We were in the area and had a mixed car wanting one or the other so we were glad to find a place to have both. Came here for the first time today. I leave being very impressed. Our waiter was very nice and very helpful when we had questions with the menu since this was our first time coming here. We ordered spicy edamame for an appetizer. I was very good and the sauce that it was in was spicy and added a good flavor to the edamame. It had a ton of flavor and the noodles were great too. Spicy tuna roll, was the first time I had a spicy tuna roll with some actual spice to it. It was crazy spicy but it was there just to knock your tongue and let you know it's there. It was very good. You get eight pieces and this was a big size roll compared to the other places in town. The diamond roll, bursted with flavor. It was very fresh and the fish in it was very fresh. I would recommend both the tools I had ordered to anyone. The drunken noodles were good and we got spicy level 4 and whabam they were spicy! It was great and the veggies in with the noodles we crunchy and not soggy. This was definitely a great experience and the server was on top of keeping our drinks full. Pretty dark so you can't really see the food well this was early noon time. Love seeing chefs working on meals at front area. Service was good. Waitress was on point! Traffic was picking up for some reason. This was next to my hotel and I could get to it use the side roads and parking lots. I really didn't have much of an appetite so I planned to order just appetizers. I walked and up to the checkout and picked up the menu my eyes zoomed in on the pork belly buns and I asked if they had calamari. I ordered to-go because the hotel bar was closing soon and they have this black cherry classic bourbon that I wanted to try. I waited a good 15 minutes because a good bun need to steam at least ten minutes. I enjoyed the decor and took in all the ambiance the restaurant had to offer. I went back to the hotel and had my drinks first. Finally an appetite!!! Lol the calamari was salty and I literally had to chase it with the little bits of salad garnishments. Boyfriend and I decided to try this spot before I left for home. Was absolutely delicious and it was really quiet when we went on a Thursday night around 5 or 6pm. Our server was named Ozzy and he was super friendly and helpful. We got the shrimp tempura and pork belly bun appetizers and both were phenomenal!! I couldn't stop thinking about them. I could have ordered a bunch of those and been content! Boyfriend ordered chicken Katsu dinner which came with the miso soup. Was very delicious. I ordered ramen with chicken and the chicken had a great grilled flavor to it as well as nice color. Very warm and comforting for the weather as of late. Do nOt get their fried cheesecake or egg drop soup to go. By the time I got home both had reverted to some weird gummy texture like someone threw a ton of cornstarch in last minute. It's hard finding decent Asian food in Jacksonville let alone North Carolina but this place is . The menu is massive it has everything from meat entrees to Japanese ramen to fried rice. The pork bell buns are a must for an appetizer, the baos (buns) are so soft and the pork belly just melts in your mouth. I got the drunken noodles extra spicy and the flavors were insane. She even gave us complimentary edamame but sadly we couldn't finish it cause it was a lot of food. BTW on the way in I saw a sign that said free mimosas and their domestic beer was only $2! Stopped by for a weeknight dinner because I didn't feel like cooking and we were in the area. Right when we walked in, I noticed how nice the decor is. Everything looked clean and there weren't too many people. We got waters all around and the kids' waters came in a styrofoam cup with cute paper fruits decorated on the straws. Our waiter was friendly and was always checking on us, making sure we were okay. He even made conversation with our starving boys and that distracted them from being crabby and hangry. I ordered the Crispy Honey Walnut Shrimp and it came with a side of white rice and soup or salad. I chose the salad with ginger dressing. The salad was delicious. Even my 17 month old was into it. My husband got the beef lo mein and we ordered the kids chicken and broccoli with fried rice for our boys to share. The food came and right away, my kids dig into their chicken. My husband cleared his plate and said the lo mein was pretty good. I loved how crispy and hot the shrimp was. Hubby and I even picked off each other's plates. I liked how the spicy (my husband did 4 out of 5 on a spice level) noodles from the lo mein changed my palette of the sweetness of the shrimp sauce. I wish we tried some of the dessert and sushi! This place was terrible! I went on a Wednesday for lunch and ordered General Tao's chicken. I should have paid attention to the fact that the place was empty. The rice tasted like minute rice and the chicken was soggy and I tried it like 5 minutes after I picked it up. It tasted like a mushy microwave dish. I had the Honey Walnut Shrimp with rice and the Boston roll. Kiddo had Dino chicken nuggets, fries, and fruit, which was the usual lol although the fries could've had a little seasoning to be better lol. The sushi was decent but definitely had better, and my husband said the lobster tempura roll didn't taste at all like lobster. Beef Teriyaki was flavorless unfortunately, but it did look pretty! My Honey Walnut Shrimp was delicious, the shrimp wasn't over cooked and the sauce was spot on, plus again the plating was so appealing to the eye. Mandarin is located in the suites of Carolina Forrest. Hearing good things from friends and seeing how they have a very extensive menu full of options we decided to order to see the hype. The spicy salmon roll was delicious. Fresh and flavorful. That's where the rave review ends. I got salt and pepper white fish. Not good. Full of oil on top of arugula with absolutely no spice as the dish is supposed to be spicy. Just soggy bland fish. The curry, equally not good. Full of soggy ingredients with a coconut undertone with a weird level spice given with mushy rice. This place is PRICEY. Which I have no problem paying 20 dollars a dish if it is delicious but this was a fail. I'd go for the sushi though and the bar upon picking up my food looked promising. read more
