Ugh. It pains me to write this review. I usually go to Thai Villa nearby but they didn't have any available slots and I was desperate for some TLC after sleeping on a chair and then sitting through a 13-hour flight - my back, shoulders, and neck were hurting badly. Mandarin Healing Spa's good reviews were promising but the massage was one of the worst I've had in recent memory. First, my masseuse was extremely rough, almost sloppy, in terms of technique. There were several parts where she was just raking her elbow or her fist on my back mechanically instead of working out the knots/kinks. I'm not necessarily looking for Mandarin Oriental-level of care but I didn't care for the sensation of feeling like a dummy being whaled on. And I mean that literally - she was actually punching me at one point. Hygiene was also an issue. From the constant sniffles, it sounded like she had a cold and even sneezed but kept right on going (here's hoping she sneezed into her elbow and not on her hands ... still, you should go wash your hands). The bed itself was not comfortable. Again, not expecting a ton out of a no-frills spot but I do prefer not to have particle board under the head rest digging into my cheek. When I checked the mirror afterwards, I had a lovely vertical indent going down my face. The interaction at the end left an incredibly bad taste in my mouth. They're incredibly insistent that you pay the tip, if not the whole amount, in cash, which I can understand with very small businesses but I also would've appreciated a heads-up on the phone when I booked that using a credit card adds an extra $3.75 to the cost. Also, the manager was very pushy in asking for a 25% tip ($20 for a mediocre 60-minute $80 massage) and kept saying how most customers do $20 for an even $100. Regardless of how true that may be, a customer should be allowed to tip however much they want based on the experience they received, and, if it weren't for my desperation to take a shower and wash the germs off me, I would have stood firm. I've never had someone outright demand a higher tip and it was enough to make me never want to go back. Waste of $100. read more

After passing Mandarin Spa countless times, the sign on the street for chair massage finally lured me in; while my entire body could definitely use some help, my shoulders and upper back were awful from sitting at my desk (awful posture, I cannot blame it on the desk and/or chair!). I called for an appt just before they closed on Thursday night, and made an appt for the following morning. If you want/need the "fancy spa experience" this is not for you, but if you want a great massage for a great price THIS is your place! In 30 minutes, Bonnie had me feeling so much better and now I need to get myself in there for the rest of my body. I had an amazing experience with Lilly. She is truly the best! As soon as she view me, she noticed that my energy was off and recommended a combination of massage and cupping to bring the polluted blood to the surface to reset as pure clean qi blood. I told her I am a rainbow body and she said she could already see my energy around me was intense and also needed work. The session was intense, but in order to feel better, there must be some discomfort. My chakras around my upper back and shoulders were stuck, but after the session, they feel 80% better. I've been seeing Ying for a while now. She listens, remembers what I tell her, and is very knowledgeable. She is attentive to my various needs and doesn't focus on one area for too long. She often goes back to a tight spot after working on other areas, until she feels its loosened. She has a bunch of tools available to her, my favorite is a bamboo stick that she rolls up and down the back of my legs. It's unbelievable!!! If you stand a lot, run, or just have tight calf/leg muscles try it!!! I honestly feel I don't need to say much, she really knows what she's doing. I used to find myself tensing my body during massages in areas that are sore, in fear that the massage therapist would push too hard and make the issue worse. It's wonderful to find someone I can completely trust with my body. She's done guasha, cupping, dds therapy, facial massage, and deep tissue for me. I've also had a couple of massages with Peter, he's also incredibly informative and talented. It's refreshing to talk to people who are passionate about their work. The space is clean and calming. It's not fancy inside like Thai Villa but In my opinion they're more talented at Mandarin Spa and I feel better for longer after I leave. read more

She also does not use baby oil, in fact she gives you a choice of organic theropy oils or creams. Really thoughtful and genuine massage theropist. A rare fine in a city filled with massage places. The solution to the stressful workweek! I tend to avoid places like MassageEnvy and commercial places like that because they tend to put a dent in my wallet. That being said, it is hard to find a good Massage Spa that will leave you feeling recharged and renewed. I found just that at Mandarin Spa. The masseuse is warm and friendly which I think is important and adds to the overall experience. The place is also extremely clean and the owner goes trough great lengths to ensure a wonderful experience! I had Mei as my masseuse and I usually do medium pressure but at most places this is usually perceived incorrectly as soft which can be disappointing. Mei understood and her technique is very unique. I came in like an auto wreck and left like a brand new car. I think the variations in her pressure depending on which part she is working on sealed the deal for me. She is also very intelligent which is great for me because I like to talk and talk. At the same time she is very polite and at times when I just want to relax very few words are spoken. Oh yeah, there are meters in front but there is also plenty of free parking at surrounding streets and a designated parking spot behind the building. It may be a little tricky to spot but I always park there because it's always open. The place has been getting several upgrades and seems to be looking more and more inviting (now has a waiting area with a couch which adds a homely touch!). This place is a keeper! read more

I've been living with chronic muscle and ligament pain and tightness for over a year. Anti-inflamatory medications and epidurals have provided me with some relief, but since I don't want to remain on these meds indefinitely, I've tried other therapies. Myofascial release, dry needling, trigger point, PT, stretching, and chiropractic adjustments have had very little success. A few months ago, an orthopedist suggested I focus on soft tissue work and spoke of another patient he had seen who had similar muscle pain. He said the patient had excellent results from the combination of massage and cupping therapy done at Mandarin Health Spa. I found it interesting that an orthopedist would recommend an alternative treatment, so without hesitation I booked my first appointment with Judy for a 90min session of cupping and massage. When the session began, I could tell immediately that Judy is highly skilled and trained. I was a bit nervous at first to experience a different kind of treatment for muscle pain, but her manner and approach allowed me to feel comfortable almost immediately. Since my first session with Judy, I've followed up with more sessions at Mandarin Healing Spa and have had sessions with each therapist. Got an appointment same day. When I got there, Ying suggested doing a half hour massage on the table instead. She was amazing. I visited Mandarin Spa at the advice of a friend. It is a very small storefront and can easily be missed. The facility is very clean, and well attended, although somewhat small. Best to call it intimate. I had no idea what to expect, and was ushered into the treatment room. The room was warm, with fresh linens and soothing music playing at a low level. A very relaxing environment. The BIG surprise was the quality of the massage treatment! It was without question the best massage I had ever received. Ying was masterful at identifying problems with my muscles, and was even able to predict medical conditions I had (that she did not know about) just by the way my body responded to her massage.
