Bonnie, the owner and my therapist for the day, was kind and patient and talked me through what to expect.

We visited Barefoot Reflexology in Watertown to celebrate our anniversary -- our first visit in…read moreover ten years, when we had been regular customers. We will not be returning!!! From the moment we walked in, two staff members were arguing openly and continuously. There was no attempt to create any kind of relaxing atmosphere: no music, no greeting that acknowledged we were there to unwind. The space smelled unpleasant, the lighting was so dim we could barely see, and the chair coverings appeared heavily worn and felt grimy to the touch. The foot baths were lukewarm. Throughout the session, both practitioners talked non-stop to each other -- again, no music, no calm. My massage therapist applied the same painful stroke repeatedly along what felt like a nerve line on my arm and shin, over and over, to the point where I was wincing and cried out asking her to be please be gentle. That did not make a difference. My spouse's experience was worse: her practitioner struck her feet and legs with a force and rhythm that felt less like reflexology and more like frustration with her coworker being physically redirected at the client! We were also required to pay before the session -- $50 per person -- which is unusual and, given what followed, felt like a red flag we should have heeded. I see from other recent reviews that our experience is not an outlier. That's deeply unfortunate. This was once a place we trusted and recommended, albeit a decade ago. Whatever has changed in management or staffing, it shows.

The owner said he purchased the business in 2022 and did not have to honor the certificates. When the business was purchased it included all assets and liabilities including these gift certificates. Ugh. It pains me to write this review. I usually go to Thai Villa nearby but they didn't have any…read moreavailable slots and I was desperate for some TLC after sleeping on a chair and then sitting through a 13-hour flight - my back, shoulders, and neck were hurting badly. Mandarin Healing Spa's good reviews were promising but the massage was one of the worst I've had in recent memory. First, my masseuse was extremely rough, almost sloppy, in terms of technique. There were several parts where she was just raking her elbow or her fist on my back mechanically instead of working out the knots/kinks. I'm not necessarily looking for Mandarin Oriental-level of care but I didn't care for the sensation of feeling like a dummy being whaled on. And I mean that literally - she was actually punching me at one point. Hygiene was also an issue. From the constant sniffles, it sounded like she had a cold and even sneezed but kept right on going (here's hoping she sneezed into her elbow and not on her hands ... still, you should go wash your hands). The bed itself was not comfortable. Again, not expecting a ton out of a no-frills spot but I do prefer not to have particle board under the head rest digging into my cheek. When I checked the mirror afterwards, I had a lovely vertical indent going down my face. The interaction at the end left an incredibly bad taste in my mouth. They're incredibly insistent that you pay the tip, if not the whole amount, in cash, which I can understand with very small businesses but I also would've appreciated a heads-up on the phone when I booked that using a credit card adds an extra $3.75 to the cost. Also, the manager was very pushy in asking for a 25% tip ($20 for a mediocre 60-minute $80 massage) and kept saying how most customers do $20 for an even $100. Regardless of how true that may be, a customer should be allowed to tip however much they want based on the experience they received, and, if it weren't for my desperation to take a shower and wash the germs off me, I would have stood firm. I've never had someone outright demand a higher tip and it was enough to make me never want to go back. Waste of $100.

Excellent professional service. I recommend this office without any reservation. Good location…read moreeasy place to park.

The massage has always been very good and reception is very nice. Both times I have used a Groupon and booked an appointment for the same or next day (once I called because I was close by and they got me in for an appointment 10 mins later). Maybe it's because I go on weekdays, but they seem to have lots of availability. The massage is always very thorough and my body feels excellent after. They tend to use firm pressure -- I don't mind some pain during my massage but you can ask them to be lighter. Language barrier can be an issue so you may want to let reception know before you go in for the massage. The 60 mins Asian Body Works (Tuina) with Hot Stones was full body including scalp and face but not feet and you removed your clothes. The 60 mins Foot Reflexology with Asian Body Works included a foot soak, focused on feet and legs, and you kept your clothes on for the body works massage. I preferred the body works with hot stones from masseuse David, who asked multiple time if the pressure was good and it really felt amazing! If you care more about the foot massage and less about the body, then I would opt for the foot reflexology (the massage I had was fantastic as well). The space is clean, beds are very comfortable, and ambiance is nice. The different massage areas are divided by screens rather individual rooms separated by walls. I don't mind this, but I can see how some would not prefer it. When I went for the foot reflexology, I was in a shared room with a stranger -- this was fine for me because you do not remove your clothes for this service. I found it a little weird initially but did not care during the actual massage; again, I can see how some people may not enjoy this setup. Overall, Nomad offers very high quality massage at a reasonable price point, not overly extravagant. I will definitely go back regularly!

Decor: 4/5 Quality of massage: 2/5…read moreSense of relaxation: 1/5 When you walk in, the chic bohemian decor is inviting. However, the massage is where this place falls apart. The spa doesn't have separate rooms, rather it's one massive hall, separated by cloth curtains. Which means you can hear EVERYTHING!! You hear the opening of packages, the bathroom, the customer next to you saying "oh my god yea", the staff walking back n forth, the tap running in their kitchen... everything!!! To make this worse, the massage itself was terrible. They placed a towel on my back and massaged me over the towel in an elbow 'poking' manner rather than a normal kneading style. I left the spa feeling rather bruised than relaxed. This was the second time I've had a terrible experience at Nomad - will definitely not be returning.
