Horrible, horrible service... I placed the order at 4:20 PM. It took them an hour to make the delivery. As I was eager to indulge, the delivery guy came back saying they brought the wrong order. I gave them back the food. An hour later passed (still with no food at hand) and the female stated that "oh he's probably exchanging the food." Absolutely crappy service. No type of empathy whatsoever for their mistake. The female gave me an attitude when I asked to remake the food as it would be cold. Unbelievable! Honestly we were skeptical at first but the food was truly delicious -- seconding an earlier review, best chicken nachos I have ever had, and my fiance thoroughly enjoyed their steak burrito. We ordered delivery, and they even called us while they were making our food to clarify something we'd written online in the "optional notes" box. So much food, too -- both of us over-ate because it was SO GOOD and we didn't want to stop. Only thing that would have made it better was their guacamole seems a little too smooth -- but I like mine chunkier than average anyway. This place is such a gem! We went there for Thanksgiving dinner and there were about 5 other people. The food is cheap but does not lack in taste. The portions are a good size. Highly recommended if your in the Bay Ridge area. Forget Mezcal's and come to Mandato's *I was talking with the delivery guy and asked how far down do they deliver he said 92nd and I said I live in the high 90's he said sure that would be no problem :) These guys are awesome!!! read more

Authentic Mexican food compared to the other places in the area. Mole sauce is pretty decent which rates highly in my book.

This is a real hole in the wall Mexican eatery in Bay Ridge. I stopped by while walking along 3rd Ave. and decided to try their food. For a Saturday night, it was slow but there seemed to be people who ordered take-outs from the number of calls. The place is a tad on the dim side. Once you walk in, there's a huge statue of the Virgin Mary, but don't let the statue deter you from eating here. The food is GOOD and CHEAP! I have had delivery from here a few times. I have not dined in the restaurant (small kids ...). I have yet to have a bad meal delivered from here, but tonight's was just outstanding. I ordred the "Mojarra" (friend porgy) and it was just delicious. It is an entire deep-fried fish (face and all) so maybe not for the squeamish, but it was the tastiest thing I have had in a while. First of all I used to order from this place every weekend! Even when they would send me the wrong orders 80% of the time I would still keep going back to eat and order takeout and out of all the mistakes they made in sending me the wrong food this one time I made one small mistake because I had lost my debit card to take out cash for when my food arrived I decided to cancel my order since they didn't take cards and the lady I'm guessing the owner got angry and told me not to come back or order from there because they would not take my order anymore. For great tasting authentic Mexican food, we usually make our way to sunset park. we were pleasantly surprised when we discovered Mandato, the food here rivals some of the best in sunset park. To cook with mole poblano sauce is a high art form of Mexican cooking. They have certainly mastered it here. Enchiladas with mole sauce or the chicken entree with mole sauce is a must try. we were impressed. The authentic quality of food I believe is much better than the two yuppified Mexican restaurants across the street, los politos and la margarita. read more

I placed an order for delivery an hour and a half prior to their closing time, called 5 minutes after placing the order to add something (but they never answered) and it is currently an hour past their closing time, and I have not received my food. The online ordering service tried calling them as well to no avail. There is now nothing else open in the area, not even a grocery store. Stay away from this place. We ordered delivery via Delivery.com and they confirmed it. And after 1hr 15 min I called and asked where is the food, and the girl told me that the driver is on the way!!! We waited another 30 minutes and I called again. They told me that the price for burritos has been changed and wasn't updated on the website, so they just cancelled our order and even didn't let us know!!!! And the girl on the phone didn't even excused!! So here we are at 11 pm on Friday night and still hungry :(( OMG! This is the worst experience in my life with food delivery. Bay Ridge is severely lacking in good Mexican places so I gave this place a shot a couple of times for delivery. Delivery was quick enough considering I lived 20 blocks away (30-45 mins) and the food is cheap however not very good. The guac is very watery and slimy - I prefer it to be on the chunkier side. Tacos are lacking flavor, meat is def not seasoned enough. The pork taco had way too many pieces of fat in it. I did enjoy their tostadas and spicy chicken soup (VERY spicy!) enough to order from them a second time but I think that will be my last. read more

placed order at 9.17pm, got confirmation at 9.21pm. At 10.30pm I called them and ask where is my food? They told me the driver is already out of delivery. 30minutes later NO FOOD. I called them again and this time they told - "we canceled your order,because there was a wrong price on delivery.com". Now it cost 50 cents more.Never called to notify about cancellation. It's sad. The food is fine but they can't seem to be able to deliver with any efficiency. I've given them a few chances but there's some kind of disconnect between the order being placed and being delivered in a reasonable amount of time. They get a low score from me just for that. Very long and disappointing wait times for delivery, pick-up AND restaurant dining. I think I've given this place too many chances. Enough is enough. The wait times are horrific. If you order from here, prepare for at LEAST a 1 hour wait. If you pick up, expect to wait 30 minutes. If you dine in, expect to be there for about 1.5 hours. The food, sadly though, is pretty good. I enjoy the tostadas, the bistec tacos are great as are the chicken, and the rice is fluffy and orange--just as it should be (to all you "foodies" who expect everything to be like Chipotle). I eat chili rellenos at every Mexican restaurant when I go to one for the first time. I must have had 70 or so versions of them. These were the best. They weren't fancied up...they were traditional chile rellenos. But so often, they're greasy, heavy, flavorless, have too much batter, etc... These were perfect. Two large perfectly fresh and cooked just right poblano peppers stuffed with a good amount of a Mexican mozzarella-like cheese (oaxaca?), fried in a thin coating of batter with a delicious, light tomato sauce with a few sliced peppers thrown in and grated hard cheese on top. The batter, when soaked in the sauce, was heavenly. It was the perfect chile relleno. The rice and beans were tasty as well, as was the sope. The masa was fresh, not dried out, as it so often is. The toppings (chicken and other stuff) were tasty as well. The salsa verde was fresh and had the perfect kick to it. The delivery guy got lost, so it did take a while for the food to come, but when it did, it was still warm and fresh. I'm so happy to have found this place! I can't wait to try more of the menu. read more

Just found this place a week or two ago and really liked it. Other Mexican restaurants I've tried in the neighborhood have had food that seemed more like what I'd expect at a chain restaurant, but at Mandato things seemed to be made from scratch and with care. We got sopes with chorizo and the chorizo was great (not too fatty) and the sopes were thick and very fresh. Grilled nopales were nicely cooked - blackened in spots but not overwhelmingly, and clearly just off the grill. Tomatillo salsa was nice too. The waitress was very pleasant. This will be my go-to for Mexican food. read more
