I have never written a negative review, but this wxperience was NOT GOOD. 1. I dropped off for tailoring. they were not ready on promised date (had to wait another four days. When I went to pick them up, they were still not ready. I had to go back again a few hours later. 2. I asked for snaps to be put in to blouses in between buttons, dress pockets to be removed of two dresses, and a hem to be let down. When I asked to take in a pair of jeans, she said she would charge $75 for taking in a waist down a size. (!!!) 3. When I finally was able to get my clothes, paid (cash only). I took the clothes to my car and noticed she had not removed the pockets. I had to go back in and show her, she accused me of 'wanting work done for free', I had to explain that if the work was done, that would make sense. She refunded a small part. read more

I showed up at Mandy's and asked what was possible, and she said she could help me. The dress was done a day later and she even had me come 1 extra fitting to make sure everything was right. In two days, she pretty much redid a formal gown, (took both sides top to bottom by over an inch each, and took the hem up so I could dance all night. Recently bought a crowl neck bridesmaid dress which was too big in the chest area. I honestly wasn't sure if anything could be done to fix this without completely changing the style of the dress. This place is really reliable with my clothes. They offer dry cleaning but also do simple laundering/pressing. They also do alterations and simple repairs like buttons and small patching. I have even taken my comforter here recently which my dog threw up on, and they were able to get the stain and the smell out. They have even done some shoe repairs. I had the heel repaired on one of my boots and they were done very well. The turn around time is fair and usually back within a week but they also do sooner dry cleaning. Recently, she altered two bridesmaid dresses for my wife for hastily rescheduled weddings, and by all accounts was both very helpful with suggestions as well as great at listening to what my wife wanted. I had a similarly positive experience when she helped me with measurements for a rental tux in a different state and helped make sure they'd have a good fit ready for me when I show up to be a groomsman. I definitely trust this place with all my clothes laundering and dry cleaning needs. Mandy has always done great work for us! read more

This review is for alterations. Also, I must say she was super sweet and lovely and friendly, but that still didn't change the disappointment. I knew it was risky taking my bridesmaid's dress to a local neighborhood seamstress, but since it was just a simple hemming of 2.5 inches, I thought it would be ok. I knew the dress would be a tiny bit tricky to shorten because the top layer of the skirt was a little bit stretchy, but she assured me it would be no problem. I didn't try it on when I picked it up, but she gave me the dress as well as the fabric that had been removed. On my walk home I started to look at the strip of fabric- it wasn't even at all! .75 inch in some spots and as much as 4 inches in others. And of course, when I tried it on at home you could see right away how crooked it was. It looked truly awful. I took it back to her and she was really nice about it at least. She fixed it for free, and it was still ready to go by the time of the wedding, so I have to hand it to her for that. But in order to even it out she had to cut off even more, of course, so what should have been a 'tea length' dress was now an 'above the knee' length dress. A $300 dress that now looked kind of ridiculous. I still wore it, and life goes on, but it was a pretty frustrating experience. I'm sure she would be great for a simple jean hem or something (haven't gone back to check though, to be honest), but I would really avoid taking having her alter something difficult or of importance. read more

I try to support local businesses instead of taking everything I own to those chain dry cleaners, but I see that after this experience I will have to resort to doing so. I took my winter coat on 12/26 (all white) to be cleaned. Upon inspection we realized the zipper needed to be replaced, to which I agreed to and was told because of the holiday it wouldn't be ready until January 5th. Which annoyed me, but I said fine. Because after all, this was a small family business, she had to order the double zipper, etc I was late picking up my coat by a week, and it STILL WASN'T READY! She didn't call to explain anything and it WASN'T CLEANED and she argued up and down that I didn't tell her to clean it. Why would I want a dirty coat back? That doesn't even make sense. Never again. I have passed by Mandy's shop frequently as I live near the area, and I try to keep my eyes open for what's around. I like to know what businesses and services are offered because you never know when you may have a need that your neighborhood can fill. That need arose when I was asked to be a bridesmaid in my brother's wedding. After trying on my bridesmaid dress it was clear that a few alterations would be needed. The dress was extremely long, needed to be taken in a bit at the sides, and readjusted in other areas. This was my first time needing alterations, but I immediately thought of Mandy's as I remembered seeing the giant dress photos in the window, advertising alterations and dresses as a specialty. With the wedding a few weeks away I gave Mandy's a try. I had a first visit where initial alterations were decided and pinned, and then a second fitting wherein I tried on the dress to be sure that the adjustments were a good fit before they were finalized. Mandy was very personable and accommodating throughout the process. She really does make you feel like family. Her prices were reasonable and she was very upfront about all costs. There were no surprises. I paid and picked up my dress on the day specified and was happy with the fit. It was a new dress after Mandy worked her magic!! When I left Mandy's this afternoon, I wasn't happy, but I figured life is too short and let's chalk it up to a learning experience to stick with my usual go-to business for alterations and dry cleaning. That is, until I received a really unprofessional text message from the owner. I took two dresses into Mandy's with the following needs: - Replacing a zipper and straps on one dress - Mending a small rip along the seam on the other dress - Dry cleaning both dresses The guy who greeted me the day I dropped the dresses off seemed to be flustered but jotted down everything I asked and explained that Mandy would call to confirm the details and pricing. He asked if I could wait a week (until Monday) to pick up. I said no problem. The following Tuesday (a day after it was supposed to be ready to pick up) I got a call from Mandy to discuss pricing for the details and alternations (which, I gathered from our phone conversation, hadn't been started yet). I explained that I needed everything that was written on the ticket and while her price seemed high ($42) please go ahead with the order and asked if I could pick it up Thursday. I was told I would need to pick it up after 6:30 if I wanted it Thursday. I said fine, although now I was beginning to worry it would continue to get pushed back. Today, I went in to pick up the dresses and everything is done - except the straps. The guy looks at the ticket and calls Mandy explaining that it was on the ticket and he puts me on the phone with her directly. She tells me that she didn't fix the straps because I didn't mention them on the call. I explained that she had called to ask me about pricing and I told the guy what was needed when I came in. She continues to make excuses before the phone is handed back to the guy. I pay and say to the guy, I am very unhappy and I don't think I will be coming back before leaving the store. About 30 minutes later I get a text message from an unknown number. It's Mandy and she texting me to tell me to "please keep my comments about never coming back to yourself." I text back to let her know this is very unprofessional and not at all the way a smart business would handle customer service. I also explained what happened and why I was upset and that I would not return. Thank you Mandy for taking what was a bad, but forgettable, situation and making it much worse. I came here after reading all the rave reviews. I have to say that someone else did get helped before me, although I was there first. In any case, Mandy and her staff are very nice. The pricing is competitive - original hems $12, regular hems $5, and $8 for double stitching. I brought 8 pairs of pants in, which is unusual, since I like to try out only one or 2 at a new place. Well, I have to say that I'm quite disappointed that I didn't do this. I need to take sewing lessons and just do it myself. I don't want to see crooked or wavy stitching. I had 5 original hems done on my jeans, and 3 regular hems done and wasn't very happy with any of them. The stitching just wasn't really straight. My roommate did say that no one would be close enough to see them, and even if a guy was close enough and did say something, then he probably doesn't deserve to be that close to them. read more

This review is for alterations. I also had some dress pants that were too short so when I saw Michelle's review, I decided to take them to Mandy's to see if she could fix them with her magic ribbons. I asked for them back in 2 days. She said she was busy and needed at least 4 days to get them done. I said okay, how about 5 days. Alright. The job looked great when I went back 7 days later to pick them up. The hem is neat and seamless. Then when I got home and tried them on, I saw that one pant leg is about a centimeter longer in the back than the other.... I don't remember if it was already like that from the previous hem job.... but then if she had measured carefully, shouldn't it have come out even? I dunno... The other part of my experience that was a little un-nerving was that when I was dropping off my pants and talking to her about the ribbon and lengthening, etc.... she said I would have to pay her regardless of whether I would like it.... which is fine, I guess, I mean, if I didn't like it, I'd probably just smile and say I did and then take it elsewhere to get it re-done, but just the fact that she said that made me feel a little un-easy, like I really might not like what she was going to do... So I gave her my pants anyway but her comment made me feel a little uncomfortable about what to expect when I came back for it.... When I picked them up and told her they looked great, she asked where I heard about her and I said Yelp. Then she was like, oh yeah, you gonna write a good review, right? don't forget to write a good review... and I left feeling weird again. Oh yeah, it costs $10. read more

I stopped by Mandy's the afternoon of the 3rd to dropped off my work jacket to be hemmed, along with a few other times that just needed a button or hole fixed here and there. I made sure I was very specific that I didn't care how long the other times took, I JUST needed the jacket. The lady didn't give me a date of pick-up, but I figured a week would be enough. I returned the evening of Wednesday the 9th and talked to Mandy, who said she'd been busy and the jacket would be ready on Monday, the 14th. That was fine by me. Again, I made sure it was clear that I JUST needed the jacket. So when I showed up today, 12 days after dropping it off, and it STILL wasn't ready, I was pretty annoyed. The store is kind of chaotic and messy, so it took a second for the girl to find SOME of my items, but not my work jacket. She finally had to call Mandy, who said (again) that she'd been busy. I finally gave up and just asked for my jacket back. After some more digging for hidden treasure, it finally came up. I am a flight attendant and frequently fly to Canada. I guess no one decided to show up today. This is the only day I can pick up / drop off my clothes prior to traveling for next week as they are closed on Sundays. I keep on calling every 15 minutes hoping someone decides to come in, but, no such luck. I never thought that a dry cleaner/tailor could get three strikes for one small task, but somehow, Mandy's was able to accomplish that. So here goes... My fiance is a groomsman at a wedding and had to get last minute tailoring done to the pair of pants he was supposed to wear at the wedding. Nothing major, just a flat hem to shorten them by a couple of inches. For a seasoned tailor or seamstress, I wouldn't expect this task to take longer than hour. So, on Friday, my fiance made an appointment to see the seamstress at 6:00 PM. He gets there, and she's left for the day. Strike one. They reschedule for Saturday morning. Saturday morning, she shows up and the appointment goes along fine (he gets measured, etc.). Only thing is that when asking on when he could pick up the pants, she says that there is no way that she can get them done before Tuesday, and that would be a rush order. I get that they are a business and have numerous clients, but two or three days for shortening a pair of pants seems a little much. I didn't actually have time to pick up the pants on Tuesday, so I decided to go pick them up for him on Wednesday morning. They're supposed to open at 7, right? Because I decided to get there first thing so I could go to work right after, and they didn't get there until 7:25. Five or ten minutes late, I'm ok with, but when you start getting to twenty or twenty-five minutes late, we're going to start having issues. Strike two. At this point, I'm irritated because I'm late for work and the guy who shows up is trying to look for the pants. They are nowhere to be found. He calls the seamstress, who directs him to a pile of clothes sitting on an iron. She says that she had time to hem the pants but not press them. These pants came directly from the store. As in, they were not wrinkled in the first place. But because she decided to hem them and throw them in a pile with a whole bunch of other clothes, they got extremely wrinkled. Honestly, if she had just hemmed them and hung them back up, there would not be any issues. In addition to that, you are generally supposed to press right after you hem, at least the bottom of the pants, so that you make sure that the hem came out correctly. Remember, all of this stuff was supposed to get done a day ago. Huge strike three. On top of it all, the guy did not offer to press them (which, again, pants do not take a long time to press) and carelessly threw them onto a hanger and added the standard plastic bag. The price was reasonable, eight bucks for standard flat hem, but we are definitely never going back there again. The decent prices are not worth the lack of quality and blatant disregard for timeliness. read more
