Manger exceeded all expectations on our first visit to this lovely restaurant. My hubby and I were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and FINALLY checked this place off our list. Not sure why it took so long to make it here but we finally did it. Isa was our wonderful server/waitress who made the night unforgettable. They had a lovely sweet touch by having a happy anniversary card at our table signed by the entire staff. They must know how much I love snail mail. LOL. We were also treated to a complimentary glass of champagne right away. For drinks, I ordered the Hemingway Special which had Rum, Tattersall Sour Cherry, Grapefruit, and Lime. It was delish and in a beautiful cocktail glass. Later in the evening I ordered an Espresso Press Martini that really hit the spot. It included Proper Vodka, Loon Coffee Liquor, North Forest Maple Bourbon Pecan, Creme de Cacao, & French Press. Hubby ordered a glass of the Pinot Noir and then an IPA. For our meal, I ordered the Side Salad and the Moules à la Creme (mussels). The salad was good but just a tad salty for my taste buds. The mussels were some of the best I've ever had. The broth was perfection that I just wanted to sip that up at the very end. They were also great with dealing with my gluten allergy and replaced the sourdough bread (as a side with the mussels) and gave me French fries with ketchup and aioli on the side. Lovely touch. Hubby ordered the Roasted Pork Loin and I even took a small bite of that and it was tasty...came with broccolini. The beet glaze was a great addition and not too overpowering. Last but not least they also brought out a slice of their cheesecake for us to celebrate our big day. Though not completely GFree, I was able to take the filling and eat that. It was great. I've been fortunate and privileged enough to travel throughout the Western world, both for work and leisure, and I've been a "cook" since I was 12 and a winemaker. Before going into detail about the menu and service, I want to emphasize that I was disappointed by the restaurant's ambiance. I expected a more French setting, to do justice to its name, Manger. The walls were bare, the seats uncomfortable, and the chairs looked like church pews. I expected more French decor--at the very least, chairs in that style. Even a little French music, which is so lovely and romantic. The croquettes were delicious. I ordered the French fries and was disappointed--they were mushy and tasteless. The aioli was a nice touch, but the ketchup sauce was completely out of place. What I thought was very well prepared was the Trout Veronique. The flavor of the sauce and the clams was absolutely fantastic. As a connoisseur, I have to commend the selection of excellent French wines. It really bothers me when I go to restaurants that claim to be Italian or French but only have California wines. I have nothing against California, but as connoisseurs, we know there are many more options around the globe. I was amazed by the variety of spirits and the house-made cocktails at this place. The Old Fashioned, prepared by Erin, was absolutely delicious. Whenever I go to a restaurant that serves Crème Brûlée, I try it. I have my own Swiss recipe, and I've been disappointed before. That wasn't the case here. The dessert was prepared with the utmost delicacy and had a perfectly smooth texture. The caramel was executed with the precision of a great chef. All the food was amazing which you can see photos of below, except for 1 dish, the Capunti Nero which was too salty in our opinions. There was also a great cocktail selection as well as a vast wine list. Besides the one dish of 4 that we didn't particularly love, the only other critique is that their menu online is not up to date so I would recommend if you go to make sure you check their Facebook page as they appear to post their current menu there. read more

This was one of the worst experiences we have ever had. We should have left in the very beginning with the waiter we had. We started with drinks. My granddaughter had picked out a wine she wanted and I asked what soda they have. He had said Pepsi products and went on to mention Sprite. I am glad that I heard Pepsi products earlier. I said I thought you said Pepsi products and Sprite is Coke. He then said, well, it is called Starry, so same. I said No it is Not the same. Starry has Yellow 5 in it and I am very allergic to it. He did not say, oh, I am sorry or I didn't know, NOTHING. We should have left. I didn't as my granddaughter chose the restaurant and I wanted to enjoy our time. The rest of the experience wasn't any better. Casey was a terrible server/waiter. The menu was very limited. The food was expensive and you barely had a portion. I don't mind paying for something at a higher cost if it is exceptional. This was not. Small portions, nothing fancy and it was across the board. We had Oysters, which we received 4 for $20, Normal pricing for oysters is 2.00-5.00 each so this was top pricing. She had Biguli Pasta and the portion was SO small $22.00. We both had dessert, she had cream brulee $12.00 and maybe the dish was 2" or possibly 2 1/2" and maybe 3/4" deep. I had the Mousse au Chocolat and again, so disappointed, so tiny in a little pan... 4 regular bites, $12.00. They also charge a credit card surcharge. I do not leave reviews however this experience was so terrible and my Granddaughter kept apologizing which I assured her she did not have to. As far as ambiance, it was small, tight and all the edges of the floor and trim were dirty. I had told my granddaughter when we got to the restaurant that I needed to use the restroom. After seeing what the eating area looked like, I did not want to use the restroom. Save your time and money and choose somewhere else to eat so you can enjoy the experience. read more

The oysters were great but the coquettes were really special bc we couldn't figure out that aoli!! Server was fantastic. She was able to explain the menu and field all questions above adequately. Eating at Manger was wonderful. We happened upon it when they had a wine tasting. We got to try every wine (sorry I do not remember the winery) and ended up buying a bottle. We had the frites and the mussels as dinner and the portions were perfect. Do request more bread to soak up the sauce! We visited on our anniversary and were asked by the server if we were celebrating anything. For our anniversary, Manger gave us all 3 desserts on their menu. This place is such a jewel. It's been one of our favorites for dining ever since it opened & has continued to be a go-to for takeout during COVID. The service is stellar and is only surpassed by the menu. The choices rotate with the seasons & are thoughtful and prepared expertly. Highly recommend the short ribs in the winter (buttery, fork-tender, amazing vegetables on the side) and any of the pizzas year-round. The salads on the menu are a work of art. Great wine list as well. Also they're currently offering the BEST soup by the quart with proceeds going to support local food shelf. Went for dinner here tonight and have mixed feelings. We sat on the patio and it was a beautiful evening. Our waitress was exceptional and service was outstanding! The bread, salad, and fries were great in every way! We both ordered the wagywu tenderloin and although it was a beautiful cut of steak neither was cooked to what we had ordered. Mine was supposed to be medium and it was rare and my husbands was supposed to be well and was medium at best. I sent mine back and they fixed it but my husband just sucked it up and ate his since he was very hungry. Unfortunately when I am spending 40 bucks per steak and fries only I expect it to be cooked properly. Wanted to love this place since they got so much right but sadly can't give a better rating. I frequented this Resteraunt on July 20th for lunch and was wowed! Both myself and my daughter agreed on the experience at The Manger. We ordered several appetizers (all seafood) and salads. We were pleased with everything but the standouts were the fresh oysters. They were so good and fresh we had to order more. In addition I love variety so we had 4 different varieties and each one was great with us finally settling on the East Coast Duxbury as our favorite. But now I feel bad because we also found our salads to be so flavorful and crisp, the scallops were cooked and seasoned to perfection and finally the mussels were in a broth that we devoured. I can't recommend this place enough. I also can't wait to go back. Thanks to the great service and food it will be a pleasure to return. read more

Wine lovers will enjoy the broad selection of wines, very nicely curated. I had a delicious Fair State cloudy IPA. Their beers are nicely curated as well. The duck was outstanding, juicy and delicious with a nice crisp skin. Other selections at our table included the scallops which were eaten with moans of delight (and not shared) and looked beautiful and delicious; I did get a sample of the Italian Job pizza. What a great addition to the St Croix River Valley! The restaurant features locally sourced ingredients, and a menu centered around their wood-fired oven. We made a reservation with their Chef owner, Michael, on December 9th for a very special family event on December 21. Michael sent a wonderful email confirming the reservation on December 21 and asking what they could do to make the event more special. I was very impressed. On December 21 when we arrived there was no reservation and the restaurant was filling. The owner was standing 20 feet away but rather than come and speak to us he had his hostess make two trips to where he was standing and convey his messages to us. The hostess offered a nominal gift card or the option of us walking down the street to wait forty minutes at a coffee shop. We did not accept the offers, sickened by the disregard. We went elsewhere to dine, fortunately creating a wonderful evening for our guests. An owner who won't take responsibility for their mistakes probably doesn't for their diners either. read more

Manger was a nice surprise. We just happen to be passing by the area and was looking for some lunch. Yelp recommended it so we gave it a try. It's a small place but very clean and well decorated. The staff was quick to take our order and are very friendly. Our order was a little big for our group and the food did take longer then expected but this place was definitely a social place and one would expect to drink and talk while waiting for your food. It was hard to wait as you can smell it while it's being made in front of you. We did get our raw oysters first and they were the freshest ones I have had in a long time. So delicious! When we got the rest of our food I can say it was very food. The Ba Mi was not to my liking but the rest was pretty good. The pizzas was light and delicious.
