Valentine's night was disastrous at Mangia Mangia and we will no longer visit this establishment. After waiting 45 minutes, we decided to leave as reservations were needed and we were never told that when we gave our name. The staff wasn't friendly, the place was loud and not enough help to serve the people that were already seated. The staff that was there made no eye contact with anyone nor was any apology offered by anyone. The person working the bar had a bad attitude and looked like she didn't want to be there. The backroom was not being used but was set up for a large party. They no longer allow coupons and the frequent visitors incentive is no longer available. Their food was awesome when it first opened but it seems as though owners might have changed and they might be concentrating on their new location in New Milford. This is what happens when an establishment gets too big to handle. A good thing will come to an end. read more

I live up the street and had an open house this weekend to celebrate reconstruction from last year's tornado so I put in a big order a couple of days before. The food was very good, but the service left much to be desired. There were several people in the back working with the dishes etc., but there was only one poor kid out front. He was working hard, but he needed help. Whenever the people in the back passed by you, they wouldn't give a hoot that you were there waiting for service, it wasn't their job. I noticed other customers also didn't get attention paid to them, but maybe they were used to it and they didn't mind. I'm not sure what other people see who say they got good service, but I didn't see it. read more

I went here for Valentine's Day, despite it being the busiest day of the year, I'm sure for most restaurants, you would have never know by the quality of the food! From the appetizers to the main course were delicious! The homemade chicken soup was delicately prepared! I ordered the lobster and my boyfriend ordered scallops. Both dishes were beautifully prepared! The lobster had a delicious twist of a sautéed strawberry with a somewhat onion glaze, it was genius! This hasn't been my First visit, usually I go with my three year old Daughter and we are treated as family! The staff is Wonderful! This is a good spot to grab some good americanized italian food. The chicken Popeye is yummy as is the eggplant parmesan! This is just the kind of food we can't really get at the italian restaurants in our neighborhood. When we come back east we often get take out from Mangia and it hits the spot. read more

Wow! Real Italian -- including the staff. Delicious appetizers of fried zucchini and garlic bread. I'm not talking sprinkled garlic powder, but actual clove garlic. Good rolls, too. We had 7 people with each ordering something different and all very pleased. Baked Ziti w/eggplant, Cheese Ravioli, fettuccine Alfredo, carbonara -- all tops! Dessert was spectacular! This was previously one of our favorites. We'd give the food four stars. The wait staff has turned over. I've heard that the owner/manager is retiring. I think it shows. We went in on a Tuesday night and the place was only a third full. We sat down immediately and received bread and the menus. Nobody came by for our order for a good 10 minutes. Three staff members hung out at the hostess station, in clear view of where we were seated. We finally flagged down a server who said that the waiter would be right over. We asked her a simple question on the menu. Her English was limited and all she could do is tell us what the menu said. We later observed her serving food and she hugged all the plates to her shirt, which is not proper sanitary practice. So, I'll call this ok for takeout, because the food was good, but don't eat in, unless you are fluent in Spanish. read more

Always pass this place on my way to the gym and was curious so we stopped in for pizza on a Saturday night. Went fairly early since we have small kids with early bedtimes. We were seated right away. Very cozy and friendly atmosphere. We got the shrimp scampi and margerita pizza. The shrimp scampi was excellent, the margerita was a little bland. The waitress was friendly and accomodating. Excellent food, great service, what more could one ask for? The restaurant is divided into two sections, sit down and quick meal/take out. The front half is well lit, moderately spacey, and friendly. I ordered the shrimp scampi pizza, a Bass Ale, and a slice of tiramisu for dessert. The pizza was great. You have a choice of red or white sauce, and I chose white. The tiramisu seemed to be made in-house and was passable but not worth ordering again. Overall the bill turned out to be about $26 for 2 people. It's a good price for good food, not to mention close to home! P.S. There's one picnic table for outdoor seating, but I'm not sure if waiters come out to serve you. We have been regular customers for the last 5 years and tonight I had the most disturbing experience and will NOT be back. I ordered a pizza and a calzone. I walk in to get it. Nice an hot pizza just out of the oven but no calzone and apparently not made. No issue for me I said just refund the price of the calzone which he agreed to. He then proceeded to take 5 phone calls on the 6th call, I said excuse me I would like to eat a hot pizza. He told me I had to wait there were other customers. I said but my pie will be cold. He said other customers come first. I handed him back the pizza and said refund everything. He said fine. Still took phone calls when he finally was done, I said please sign the receipt I would like your name.(just in case the refund did not go though) he said you want my social too. I said very funny. He handed me the receipt and wrote his social on it as well......how racist was he.....does he feel empowered by it. I will never be back Horrible that an employee/manager would act so terribly to loose a faithful customer. I am appauled. read more

If it were possible to give zero or even negative reviews, I would. Lets first start by saying this was my third visit to this restaurant. All three times have had the worst service I've ever seen in a sit down restaurant. There were two teenage waiters for the whole restaurant. You'd ask for bread and get it 20 minutes later. Ask for water, 15 minutes later. The food runners and people who clear your table, never make eye contact or say anything other can, "are you done with this?" Then, the food. My chicken Frances had no pasta underneath it when it was brought out. I asked where the cavatelli was that I asked for, and he replied, "oh would you like that in marinera?" What?! Secondly, they couldn't even get a small pizza correct. A half cheese half pepper and pepperoni turned out to be a whole pepperoni. After we sent it back and it was fixed, it came out completely burnt. The three times I've been to this restaurant were three mistakes in my life I wish I could get back. The take out has gone downhill since the switch to the new owners. I am frequently given other people's orders or something is left off mine. I opened my large cheese pizza tonight and it looked like it was a medium pizza in the box. The portions are smaller, but prices the same. Ordered the clams over pasta served just clams. Asked them for a plate of ok. Started to eat them after eating a few got one that tasted a little funny ok ate another and it was bad. Made my stomach kind of turn. Told waiter and he asked if I want to take the rest home? Then I told owner and he became very rude and said he got them in today and they where not bad! What a joke!!! So rude and service sucked along with food that was bad maybe that's why there never busy! I grew up in Northern Jersey and I will be the first to admit that I'm a snob when it comes to my pizza and Italian food. Mangia Mangia takes me on a nostalgia trip to Jersey where not only do they have the best pizza and Italian food, the service and hospitality make you feel like you are a part of their family. We just took my Mom (a Jersey Girl) to Mangia Mangia for her 75th Birthday and both my folks said, "Mangia Mangia is the best Italian Restaurant in CT". That is coming from one of the pickiest eaters ever! All of our meals were exceptional, the cappuccino was perfect, and the service was A++! Did I mention the deserts? My wife could not get enough of the Lemoncello, my mom loved her cheese cake but I think I won with my choice.....Coppa Spagnola. Any desert with real Amarena Cherries gets my attention but their take was the perfect way to end a marvelous meal. Major gratitude to the staff for their wonderful rendition of Happy Birthday for my mom. Not only did the manager come over and offer us a shot of homemade lemonchello but my Moms heart was deeply touched (as was mine) when the manager came from behind the counter to give my Mom a Birthday Hug! After being stranded on Candlewood Isle since Tuesday and having the house hit by a tornado, we were evacuated to Brookfield. Waited hours and finally got a rental car. I desperately need to use the ladies room and the gentleman was kind enough to allow me. The restaurant looked cute and had food. A big plus since the power is out a lot of places. However, the reason they get a 2 is that they would not serve us because we are 2 people... WTF??? They had a single women eating a salad and drinking wine. They had empty tables but for some unknown reason the waitress was told they could not seat 2 people. So we haven't eaten since breakfast, haven't had power in days but hey- we wouldn't want them to miss any big tables :( read more

We ordered a pizza a few nights ago and (our bad) did not realize from the description that it was cheese-less. It arrived lightly covered with canned tomatoes, no apparent spice nor flavor, on a less than baked crust. I was shocked. When we recovered, we asked the waiter to take it back (he obliged without question as he studied it) and we ended up the evening with 2 slices of your standard soppy, cheap cheese pizza. Every time I go to Mangia Mangia ... whether it's for take out or eat in... my experience is always fantastic!!! The new owners have created a fine dining restaurant from private parties to families to date night!! There is even a lovely bar! The minute you walk in... everyone is greeted with enthusiasm!!... even the guys making the pizza and food!! The food from pizza to apps to main meal is amazing!! It's so worth the visit! Tonight... I'd like to give a huge thank you to my waiter Miguel... he is the best!!! He goes above and beyond to make sure your experience at the restaurant is fantastic!!! PIZZA IS AWESOME! had a very disappointing experience with shrimp oscar pasta dish...the cream sauce was flavorless, pasta was gummy, "crab" was imitation - which was a shock considering this is New England. we also had a dish that featured sausage - which was like sawdust. probably too frozen. the new decor looks nice, however, bigger doesn't mean better. hopefully emphasis on basic Italian cuisine won't be compromised. read more

The food here is good but I am very disappointed that when you go to their site online all of the prices are well under what they actually charge. I ordered food and when I got there the price was higher than it should have been. When I told them it was wrong they told me I had an old menu at the house. I told them it wasn't a menu at my house it was their website I went to. They still argued the price and charged me more and told me the prices on their site is not updated. A proper business and customer service oriented restaurant would have atleast honored their own displayed price instead of arguing about their own mistake and still over charging me. Definitely not good for business at all. There is too much competition around to risk losing future business over bad advertising. I took a menu home from the restaurant and compared it to their online prices and see now I have been being over charged for quite some time. One long time customer lost here. read more
