Fantastic meal and so fresh. The only thing I would have improved on is the pizza needed just a little more sauce. The soup was so fresh and I the tortellini big and homemade. Do not waste your time, or money at this place. I went in to grab a slice and a drink...$8.39 !!! One anemic slice of super thin crust pizza, and a bottle of snapple. I asked if that price was correct, and got a "yeah?" and a look like I had two heads. That same items at Carminuccio's just up the road are less costly, and their slices are 3x the size. The waitress was nice though. Her two little kids had set up shop in the corner booth. I guess the place double as a daycare? Everything had a weird stickiness to it, too. read more

Best pizza in Connecticut..bar none. This is an update as I went back today after not having been here for awhile. Still as good as ever. I have taken friends here, family here. Everyone loves it. There are several reasons for that. First is their pizza. It's slammin good! I prefer thin pizza to the thick heavy kind and their pizza is consistently excellent. You can get a pie but they also sell by the slice. The slices are a great size and just have a wonderful taste that I have not found in any of the pizza places in the Monroe/Newtown area. Then there's the staff. They are wonderful. They remember you and what you like to eat/drink. The environment is cozy and it isn't huge inside but it is big enough where you never feel cramped. They are always busy but finding a table has never been an issue either. Besides their pizza, they offer grinders and excellent dinners all at great prices. This is the type of place I miss if I wait to long between stops. I REALLY need to try their Hawaiian Calzone one of these days..I am sure it is great but keep getting the same thing..pizza..it is just so good.. TJ Maxx is right in the same plaza so if you want to shop before or after lunch it is easy to do that. And Franco's now delivers! Not for me..I am to far..but if you live in Newtown.... We do not lack for pizza in this area but the area DOES lack GOOD consistently high quality pizza places. I'd say Franco's is the exception to that rule and if you have not yet tried them, go now. Roaches in food. Simply ordered two coffees and there was a bug in one of them. I wouldn't drink mine since my daughter had bugs in hers. Two of them to be exact. These roaches came from the same pot of infested roaches. The woman that was working there was nasty as my daughter politely asked for a refund of both. The worker there was rude and only refunded my daughter one coffee. Pathetic and poor customer service. read more

I just moved to the area and since this place is close to my house, I gave them a try. The first night I ordered the bacon ranch pizza, which was very good. I had a garden salad on the side which was just okay and ordinary (it's salad). The next night, I had the Linguini Pele which was very flavorful (garlic & onions). The chicken was so fresh tasting and the best part was the extra sauce to dip the yummy side of bread in. Also ordered a personal pepperoni and black olive personal pizza and it was good. The gentleman (owner?) that helped me each time was very friendly, greeted me right away, and had me in and out in no time at all. It smells so good when you walk in. We have been getting Pizza from Franco's for over 16 years. It was some of the best Pizza in the area. Unfortunately the new owners are not using the past owners recipe. The pizza we received first was undercooked where we asked for WELL done. But more importantly the taste was so bland and awful we couldn't eat it. We ate 3 pieces from and extra large pepperoni and threw the rest in the garbage along with a small cheese we purchased. It all tasted like poor quality stock product from a restaurant supply company. From the dough to the cheese...even the sauce was bad. Only part that had flavor was individual pepperoni pieces. They commit the ultimate mistake you can make in the restaurant business: Hit you with an NCA charge at the end when you ask for the check. What is NCA charge, you ask ?: Non-Cash Adjustment fee, meaning if you don't pay with cash, and pay with a credit card instead, they hit you with the highest NCA fee possible: 4% of the bill. To top it all off, it is ILLEGAL in the state of Connecticut to charge such a fee if it is not offered as a discount,( meaning they have to offer you a discount if you choose not to pay with a credit card) You just lost a customer of over 11 years over a stupid money grabbing fee. The new owners did to Franco's what a couple of years ago was unheard of: destroy a good family restaurant. SAD read more

Stopped for lunch today and had the Italian Combo. I have a high bar for this sandwich and Franco's did a great job. Very good sandwich. The bread was lightly crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Fresh ingredients used and oil and vinegar finished the sandwich off nicely. read more

I rarely ever order food when I come to work. I tried to order tonight to be told over the phone that they do not accept credit cards from people who work at the prison. I was then told to go onto their website and order my food.. with my credit card!? What is the difference between the website and someone manually punching my number into a machine???!!! So I obliged and tried to order online to find out that they will not deliver with an order under 20$. I cancelled that process. For a place that's located around the corner from my place of work the lack of consideration to people who I know constantly order from this establishment is atrocious. I'd have given them a higher rating earlier this past summer, but as time has gone on, they consistently screw up my orders. The first two times it was an online order for regular pizza, and ended up being gluten free, which went right in the garbage. It was soggy and unappealing. After than I began calling in my order, to avoid any further mix ups, I started calling my orders in. The last pie I ordered before tonight was a large or xlarge, and had about a 5 or 6 inch wide crust, only a comparatively tiny area had sauce and cheese...tonight was my last attempt to give them a shot, I called in an xlarge with half mushroom , and when I got home with it, it had mushrooms on the entire pie. Doesn't look like a lot, but the food was delicious! Me and my fam went there after shopping and ordered the penne alla vodka, ceaser salad, and a chicken parm grinder. I loved my penne (it would've been a waste to take home, there was barely any left), the salad was good, but my brothers grinder never came! The service was bad altogether, but we ended up just getting it to go for it was so late. But when we recooked it the next day at home, it was indeed good. Ordered a Vesuvio panini tonight. I realize it's a pricey world, but the price has increased from $9.50 to $15+. A bit ago, I ordered a half sausage/half meatball grinder. I used to LOVE Franco's, it was our go to spot for pizza but lately the pies have not been great. I called and mentioned a noticeable change and they said they have a new chef. I ordered a bruschetta pizza and there was barely a sprinkling of veggies and chicken on it... you could count the bits of tomatoes. I ate 2 slices and threw the rest away, it was dry and bland. Literally THE go-to place for me and my friends. I go there a couple times a week sometimes and I live 10 miles away. Always wishing it was closer, I'd probably go daily!! Francos is one of the best restaurants in the area. Very clean and comfortable family business. I would consider it a classy casual restaurant. I know the owners Marco and Elizabeth very well as I actually worked there in high school. They care about their food and will remember your name. My favorite pizza is the seafood with vodka sauce and baby shrimp. You should also try their desert pizza with banana and caramel. The turkey club is a nice lunch option as well as any of the specialty salads or pasta. But my all time favorite addiction from francos is the boneless bbq wings and the cheesy garlic bread. Was okay. Has been better. We have been coming for a while but this may be the last time for a while. Dad got eggplant rollatini. I got a Turkey and cheese panini with fries. Eggplant rollatini was wet with oil and only half if it was eaten. It should be crispy but instead was swimming in the oil. When the waitress asked how everything was, we told her and she said sorry, asked if she could get us something else. I had a panini. Not hard to mess up. Got it with fries, fries were bland. Not seasoned. Just potato sticks. And when the waitress took the eggplant from the table, it went right into the trash. No taking it into the kitchen to show the chef. After many years of coming to Franco's with our family, we were sad to learn the restaurant had changed hands but were hoping that the new owners would retain a lot of the things we loved. We understand that businesses have been hit hard by the pandemic so we're willing to overlook any rough patches the "new" restaurant might have along the way, so I held off on a review until we had gone back a few times. By and large, the menu is about the same, although I think the quality is not quite as good. The differences are fairly minor, but we noticed. The side salads are smaller, and seem hastily thrown together. The rolls are served ice cold and we are only given a couple of pats of butter for a table of five. The mozzarella sticks were also very firm and not very hot (no nice melty cheese inside, just a thick tube of mozzarella) and served with a very small container of slightly watery sauce. The pizza is still very good. The entrees seemed to also be slightly smaller portions and again, whether the sauce was a lemon butter, Alfredo, or marinara, it seemed too watery. The waitress was very pleasant but I don't think well-trained--we had no bread plates and she disappeared for an extended period of time (there was only one other couple in the restaurant). It didn't appear that there was a manager when we were there, just a couple of young women and a cook in the back. We have also missed the great Franco's specials we always looked forward to on weekends. I remember great salmon dishes, steaks, and special pastas and soups (a wonderful butternut squash soup in particular). Now it's just your standard pizzeria menu. We were not offered dessert, although from time to time the old owners would send over a plate piled with fried dough covered in confectioner sugar. The restaurant is not bad, it's just become very ordinary. The dining room itself is very clean and tasteful, but the lights are a bit blinding in the evening and not conducive to sitting for long enjoying a conversation--would be much nicer on a dimmer.
