This was my first attempt at Thai food, so I really can't compare the cuisine one way or the other. I can say that I really did enjoy the Steamed Pork Dumplings (the perfect texture and sooo yummy) as well as the Pad Thai. I live about two blocks from Mango and have seen the place host two different Chinese Cuisine places before Mango's took over. The place is quaint, but the service was very fast and friendly. I did not have a good experience here. Came in today with my cousins, so we were a party of three. It was quite a small place, mostly tables for two people spread out and at the center there were two tables connected for anyone with a party of four to be able to sit. Well, when we came in, most of the tables were taken and I saw the table that seats four available. I went to pull up a chair and the waiter told me that it was taken already, by the lady who was at the front desk with him. I thought to myself ok, that's fine... we'll just have to grab an extra seat and sit down at the 2 seater tables. The lady who was sitting down was by herself so I assumed she had a party of three more people coming.. BUT THERE WAS ONLY ONE OTHER PERSON! The waiter knew that and yet he let them sit there and had my party squeeze into a corner table that seats two? Like my cousin stated.. was he stuck on stupid? The place was DARK. I get that it was the day time, but the sun wasn't that bright since it was a cloudy day. So it was like eating in a closed restaurant. The place had high windows on one side and guess what it looked out onto? It was literally adjacent to an empty lot! So as I'm eating, I have a view of an empty lot that's covered in trash and weeds the size of large bushes. The waiter himself wasn't all that pleasant either. The service was indeed quick but man, have a personality. I ordered their duck something.. I forgot what it was but it was 15.95. How do you have a stirfry on your lunch menu and not have it come with rice? It was just a few pieces of duck, and vegetables.. for 15.95 and you couldn't give a small portion of rice with it? I had to order the rice separately... how do they expect people to eat a stirfry without rice. I wouldn't recommend this play to anyone and I won't be coming here again. read more

Delicious, spicy, generous portions. What a gem! It was a nice, breezy evening -- the restaurant door was open and the overhead fans were on. It felt divine. There was a lemon tree, and all sorts of random accoutrements decorating the space (including a framed photo of the king of Thailand), which only added to the charm. It's a small space, but it looked like most people were ordering take-out, which is fine, since that meant we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. We ordered the fresh spring rolls with shrimp (solid), the Thai iced tea (good), the Indonesian fried rice (yum), and the star of the evening... the chicken ga prao with brown rice. Oh my goodness... spicy, succulent heaven on a dish. Full of ground chicken, onions, green and red bell peppers, I ate almost the entire platter, and I hardly ever do that. Recently moved to Newton and have already tried a few Thai places. Mango Thai Cuisine is nice if you're looking for some quick takeout (or even delivery). They're always very friendly and attentive. We've had a number of dishes from this place: The not-so-good: Mango Sticky Rice - go to Tree Top in Waltham for more of the real thing The ok dishes: Fried Banana - a nice small portion of dessert if you're looking for something sweet to end your meal; nothing great Pad Thai: I like that it isn't so sticky (other Thai places have a really sticky, sweet Pad Thai), but it's not spicy, either. Awesome. Chose this place at random for a birthday dinner and although the vibe is that of a corner pizza place (tile floor, not so comfortable seating) and they have no liquor, the food is AMAZING. The scallion pancakes were fantastic. They were the perfect mix of crispy and doughy. The beef satay was a little salty and had a meaty marinade background to the usual curry/coconut milk marinade. These two flavors worked together though. The thai rolls were tasty too. The gra prow chicken was AMAZING. The sauce was a little darker than I'm used to however its probably due to a little molassis being thrown in. Dont misunderstand though, its not sweet. It just adds a certain background to the flavor palette. Yeah thats right I said flavor palette! The masaman curries smelled delicious and the pineapple fried rice was well accepted. Every dish in our party was empty at the end of the night. The staff were friendly and more than accomodating. The food came out hot and water glasses were always filled. FYI you can do BYOB. Overall I'm a big fan of this place. The food is good and staff is eager to serve you well (although it doesn't always work out). We've been eating here (delivery, take out, dining in) for several years. After a few bad delivery experiences in a row (forgotten food, wrong address etc) we've decided that pick up is worth it over delivery. I almost always order the same thing (yellow curry w/tofu and white rice). It's some of the best curry I've had, but I've learned not to order it on Sundays when someone different is CLEARLY doing the cooking. On Sundays the veggies are different, the curry is runny and lacks the same amount of flavor Monday-Saturday. I also like their scallion pancakes. read more

We have even taken friends here that have been to Thailand because it's so good and they agreed it was very authentic. Pad Thai, Massaman curry, Chicken Friend Rice, and more. All great. They can make the food really spicy as well and it not taste "chemically" like other places. Very nice owners, local to the area and even have seen their son there before. They have high chairs and a small seating place. They have a bathroom in the back in the kitchen as well that they have allowed me to use in the past. This place is so great! We came in on a whim, and I'm glad we did. I don't know what the other yelpers are talking about with the poor service, my experience here was nothing short of amazing. First off, it's a family run business. The woman who greeted us was incredibly polite, amazingly friendly and attentive despite a small language barrier. (she definitely spoke English, just not her first language.) She took my small alteration to the menu with no problem at all, and checked in on us in an appropriate amount of time. Second, the food was great. Lunch prices for decent sized portions, and it came out super quick. I honestly have no idea how anyone could dislike this place. The little old couple are ADORABLE (and I really really mean it. ADORABLE.) and the kitschy island decor was fun. Definitely will be going back! read more

The food is fairly good, but the service leaves something to be desired. I ordered delivery, and was shuffled around to two difference people while giving my order. It took 5-10 mins to place my order because of this and I went over what I wanted several times, clearly explaining it. Neither one of the people I talked to spoke very good English, and because of the language barrier (I'm assuming) my order was delivered wrong. This is the second time this has happened. The first time I didn't say anything, but the second time I called to complain. I was then shuffled around to three different people (again because of the language barrier). Cute small Thai restaurant in the area. FYI, they do close between lunch and dinner! They also do takeouts :) Theres a large meter parking lot across from it and plenty of meter parking on the streets. Its a small local restaurant, fairly priced. Its nothing fancy, but its good comfort food. I love getting the Indonesian Fried Rice from here. The fried chicken is always crispy and the fried rice is at a perfect level of delicious spicy. I've been on a long journey looking for the perfect Thai Iced Tea and this place is definitely one of the tops of my list! Its one of my favorite local comfort food restaurants in the area. The pad see ew was yummy. This time, instead of trying the pad thai, we tried the pad thai woon sen, which were glassy, thin noodles,. It was a refreshing change and even more delicious because it was different than what we usually get. The mango sticky rice was great for dessert. I just ordered a take out from this place and I have to admit that those is worst Thai food I have ever eaten in my life. I ordered a chicken pad Thai and a veggie dumpling. Dumplings were awful as they were completely under cooked and pad Thai was completely blend and the chicken again was raw. The worst was that they didn't even provide me with napkins, silverware and a side of hot sauce. Update: Mango's continues to hone their craft and improve their dishes! If you eat at Mango Thai Cuisine more than once and order different dishes, you might think you are eating at different restaurants. They do some things very well and others are adequate, but leave you wanting something more. When it comes to Thai, I like to start with the Tom Yum soup. This is pretty uninspired. While most Tom Yum is medium to light, this seems a little too heavy and almost salty. You can choose shrimp, tofu or chicken. There is no tomato. The veggie and pork dumplings are delicious (I like them steamed). I mistakenly thought they rolled their own because they taste fresh. I called them up only to find out that they buy them. This was disappointing, but it would not keep me from ordering them again. I found their apps to be quite strong in general. Try the golden bags. The salads are delicious. The seafood is plentiful and the Thai style "dressing" is spicy and knocks you in the mouth with plenty of chili flavor. There are better Thai dishes in Newton, but this is place has the best in terms of apps and their salads are excellent. read more

We had a terrific meal at Mango Thai today. The food was delicious and the staff was welcoming and helpful. We shared three entrees and enjoyed them all. The vegetables in all the dishes were obviously fresh. I especially recommend the Larb salad (with chicken) which was tangy and flavorful. We order food here quite often and it can be a hit or miss. Their Crispy Chicken Pad Thai is usually consistently good. Chicken is crispy but noodles are just fine (my standards aren't very high - as long as they are not soggy, I am content). Their pad kee mao is consistently spicy. However, there are other times when something is missed and I don't realize it until I start eating at home. I've ordered pineapple fried rice that was a crucial ingredient - pineapples. Today, I order Indonesian fried rice and it is supposed to be a spicy item dish per the menu, but there was not a lick of spice in that dish. So if you decide to order from here, just don't expect a whole lot of attention to details. read more

I have ordered the CRISPY PAD THAI multiple times and LOVED it. Tonight I ordered the same thing and they brought pad Thai with crispy chicken. I called to explain that crispy pad Thai is a special and not on the menu and the woman who answered had no idea what I was talking about. "I just work here I don't know about the specials." She then spoke to someone in the kitchen who did know what I was speaking off but said I had to come pick it up myself. However I am working locally until midnight which is not possible. Sigh. I miss Mango Thai. I love the curry, the dumplings, and the pad thai. But my husband and I had to break up with Mango Thai because the service is really that bad. We gave it so many chances. I mean so many. I mean ordering in Sunday night after Sunday night. Sometimes pick-up, sometimes delivery. But after repeated errors--forgotten items, lids not closed tightly and curry spilling in the bag, etc. we decided we could ONLY order through Eat 24 because at least that way we had evidence of what we were supposed to receive. But with a heavy heart, the last straw finally came after 2 years of loyal patronage. After placing a pickup order online and being given a 10-30 minute window, not only was the food not ready after 45 minutes, the pickup itself was a total disaster with tons of people waiting and no end in sight. And an 8-year-old working the front counter. And a refusal to comp our meal when they told us it was ready after we had already left. So there you have it. The food is good, but we just can't give any more of our money to them until their service shapes up. read more

If I could give Mango Thai more than 5 stars, I would! This is the best, most authentic, Thai restaurant in the greater Boston area. I only wish they would expand and open a restaurant on the No. Shore. As for the "Pad Thai Test" - a comparison of a Thai food staple, Pad Thai, this restaurant wins hands down. The Country Style and Spicy Basil versions are true to their native counterparts. In fact, all of the food is amazing, there's no bad dish here. The staff and chefs are accommodating and friendly. I like this place, but I don't LOVE it. I prefer it for take-out. The inside is okay, but not overly inviting. The employees are always nice. They have good curry and pad thai (though the sprouts usually aren't great), but the fresh spring rolls with shrimp were really awful the one time I tried them. (Hardly any shrimp!) Prices are good though, and we live very close so we take out from this place whenever we have the yen for some Thai. My favorite dish there is the yellow curry with tofu and brown rice. There's very little worse that having everything selected and then being told you can't get it and have to start all over again. But I digress. For New Years Eve dinner we decided to give them another shot. And I'm glad we did. From the woman who took the order to the delivery guy who came in record time (had to be 15 minutes tops), their service was great. The food was pipping hot - so much so in fact that while trying to remove the contents from the bag I nearly burned my fingers. That's good - means it was plopped out of the pans at the kitchen and scurried along to me quickly. Now, on to the food itself...The Chicken Satay was pretty good but the peanut sauce was outstanding. The combination of the two gives it 8.5 out of 10. Golden Rolls were quite tasty. Crisp and filled with ground chicken, veggies and glass noodles. They came with a sweet and sour dipping sauce, which I found to be more spicy that sweet and sour. (But I'm also a wimp when it comes to heat - for the most part). 9 out of 10 Pork Dumplings were fried (I usually ask for them steamed but, got them fried this time) well. I think I prefer them steamed in general, but the filling was good in these and they were still quite tasty. I wasn't as crazy about the ginger dipping sauce for these as usual - might have been a tiny bit too much soy or fish sauce or something in there. Still quite good. 8 out of 10 Golden Triangles - These little bundles were extremely good. The reminded me of Indian Samosas a bit - potato, veggies and curry in a filo type dough. 9.5 out of 10 Pad Thai was very tasty and a hit with everyone. 10 out of 10 Pad Kee Mao with chicken was also suburb. It had 2 chilies by it on the menu but it really wasn't that spicy. The chicken was juicy and very good as was the sauce and large assortment of veggies. 9 out of 10 Basil Fried Rice was a bit disappointing to me. It only had 1 chili next to it on the menu but was significantly more spicy than the Pad Kee Mao. There was a lot of white pepper in it, I think. 6 out 10 Overall a good find and reasonably priced. Usually order the Crispy Thai Basil and it's a hit!! Great place for take out. Small place to sit but they do Thai food good! It's pretty much what I always order and their Crab Rangoons are good as well. Have tried their Pad Thai (It's good) but am not a big Pad Thai person. Would definitely recommend it.
