I've been a customer of Mangrove Outfitters since 2008, it has always been the center of the SW Florida fly fishing community. Its a great place to get gear I need or the latest information on conditions. With Brookside being attached now it's always a fun place to stop by have an adult beverage and BS. Walked in looking for info on mangrove fly fishing trips and an older man behind the counter was less than helpful. Displayed elitist attitude and made it sound as I should know what services they provide without ever having been in the place. He then handed me a card, which had a web site on it. I asked if I could find trips and prices on it and he said no. He didn't explain any further which was perplexing in of itself. I left the place not sure how they are in business and knowing I will never return. Good luck read more

Stopped in to have them set me up with a guided fly fishing trip. They said they would check around and call me back. 3 days later- nothing. 8 days - still nothing. called a local guide on my own who was prompt and had a great trip. Looser shop! read more

I just got into fly fishing about two years ago. Stopped in mangrove outfitters just to look around and ended up talking with the guys for a good 30 minutes! Very helpful, They answered a lot of my newbie questions. I picked up a few good snook and tarpon flies that they recommended. Ive been back about a dozen times since then. Been 10 years now since I first began to patron the establishment of Mangrove Outfitters. Tom, the owner of Mangrove Outfitters knows me by name. He's a soft spoken man of few words but very knowledgeable about the world of fly fishing in Southwest Florida. I bought my first fly tying vice from him. If he didn't have something I was looking for, he would special order it. Truth be told, if it weren't for his shop, my artistic interest in fly tying would have dried up and died along time ago. Also, I would not have been so well equipped for all my fly fishing adventures to the Appalachians for the last decade. Good selection of fly tying materials and flies, all kinds of gear and clothing for the novice and the pro. All this to say that Mangrove Outfitters is my flyshop. Yesterday, 08/9/2014, my son and I went on the 1/2 day fly fishing excursion offered by Mangrove Outfitters. The guide was Capt. Tom who had an 18' flats' boat. Had everything we needed aboard for the fly fishing. Also offered some water and soda. Tom is a knowledgeable, very congenial fellow. We left about 6 a.m. Caught some Snook near the docks at foot of Gordon River. Then headed south into Dollar Bay. After Dollar Bar we went over towards Rookery Bay and several coves. Tom did a very good job of searching out the fish. His fly fishing lore was also on the money. Back at the dock at 10:15 a.m. (Many of the other guides / outfitters only appeared on the water after 9:00 a.m. when it had already became much too hot for fishing. Mangrove outfitters were easy to deal with. Capt. Tom was the right fellow to guide us and help my 17 year old son improve his fishing technique. read more
