I've been coming to the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden for years, and it's one of those rare places that only grows more meaningful over time. I watched my daughter explore, play, and quite literally grow up among these paths, which makes every visit feel a little nostalgic. I am getting more interested in botany and this small, cute garden on the east side of the PCH in Manhattan Beach is fun & informative. There is a nice variety of plants to enjoy with plaques explaining what they are. There's also some nice wood benches to sit and contemplate nature and our relationship to it. The MB botanical garden is a small section of the main park, right up at the top of the hill where the residential parking ends. It has a lovely selection of native plants and everything is well-labeled. As a no-cost way to spend half an hour with friends, this was well-worth the drive over from redondo! We also stopped by the pond to see the geese afterwards. read more

A cute and lovely space. A very short stroll at the edge of Polliwog Park, this isn't a place for picnicking or sitting around, but it's a love stopover for any walk. Super cute little botanical garden in Manhattan Beach!! Went on a Sunday afternoon and it was pretty quiet - the perfect atmosphere to explore and take photos. The garden had a bunch of beautiful plants and flowers. The bees were around doing their jobs and it was such a peaceful experience. It is quiet small and will probably only take about 20-30 minutes at most to see everything, but it does border Polliwog Park if you want to make a longer trip of it. read more

Absorb what you can on a path, no matter how big or small. It was meant to show you something. I love delightful little gardens like these, that connect to a park, neighborhoods, and a school. It's true, you might not think of this as a botanical garden because of it's size, but it has plants, trees, rocks, insects, birds, flowers, water and walking paths, so it for certain is one. Yes, it's small. And for me, the best place for parking was in the residential neighborhood right next to the garden. We drove here randomly on a Wednesday. After dining in Torrance, we were looking for a place to walk off our food. Thanks be to Yelp for yet another hidden treasure. When you walk through the desolate, dry garden, you'll find bits of information about elements that exist here. Those interesting facts are always educational. I liked the jaunt I took within this garden, for some reason it felt like enough for me. Normally, I beg for more scenery. It may have been the weather though, this was in December and it was cold that day, so maybe I was happy it was brief? If you blink you might miss this place and end up at Polliwog Park instead. Its a small pocket botanical garden that is located within Polliwog park. You can probably walk through the whole thing in 5 to 10 minutes. There is a small pathway that leads you on a journey through various California native plants. There are a few informational signs for you to read and learn about the different vegetation surrounding you as you walk through the area. In the garden you may spot a few birds, butterflies, lizards, and bees. Flowers featured include snapdragons, salt brush, sage, and the official flower of Manhattan Beach, the Beach Primrose. A very pretty and interesting garden for a leisurely walk to see and learn about plants, flowers and trees of the area. It's set in a larger park with a pond, a rolling terrain and an outdoor theater. A great break from the crush of town and traffic, with easy parking toward the north end of Peak St. Check the website for parking instructions. read more

Waiting for my son to get out of his SCROC class I decided to hike around Polliwog Park since I haven't been there since my son was in middle school when he was doing a science project. In the South/West corner I came across the small but cute botanical gardens. Although it is very small it is worth a walk through if you are nearby. It's a nice little retreat from the streets and the traffic. This botanical garden is hidden within Polliwog Park, and if you're not attentive, you might even miss the sign for this place. I like the idea of having a botanical garden nearby. It's a really small area, so don't expect a big botanical garden. I wasn't really expecting much, except just to enjoy the plants and the garden. But when I went, half of the plants in the garden were nearly dry and withered. Some areas are not as well-kept. And it seems like people have stepped on areas that were not supposed to be walked on at all. The water structure/fountain (or whatever you want to call it) is a nice touch. I could imagine myself sitting by the table during springtime when the greens are lush and listening to the sound of water, enjoying the bliss of being away from the traffic and cars and rush hour. This place has a great potential to offer more, only if it gets the maintenance and attention it deserves. read more

This is a teeny, tiny Botanical Garden that is free and conveniently located as part of Polliwog Park. It will take 10 min tops to see the whole thing. I like that it is free and my son can smell some of the flowers. It is definitely worth stopping in if you are already at Polliwog. read more

So I attempted to go to this garden yesterday, but I couldn't figure out where the entrance was. It's adjacent to Polliwog Park, and I could see into a gated area with some plants and signs, but I couldn't tell if maybe it's closed for renovation or not open at the time I went. Petite, but really well done. There's a nice sampling of California natives in the garden and signage explaining each plant species so that you know how to cultivate it in your home garden. If you're looking for more to do, there's a cute little lake in the park with lots of duck and geese around and a nice set of swings too. read more

Cute prelude to the big park it is connected to. A lot of the flowers dried up.. Blame it on the drought. Got to see lots of diff kinds of sage I didn't know existed! However just keep walking and you'll enter the park with a huge lake where you can feed the ducks! There's parking on the side of the garden .. I believe it is on peck. This little garden is a treasure for wildlife, people seeking examples of flowering water-wise plants (including climate appropriate CA natives), and volunteers of all ages. This year's El Niño rains have filled the garden with flowers of all colors. Smelling the aromatic sages while walking though, one sees lizards, a host of migrating and resident birds feeding on nectar and seeds, insects including Monarch butterflies in flight and in chrysalis stage, and colorful milkweed bugs that children love.
