I bought these flowers for my partner for Valentine's Day. They were beautiful. Truly. For approximately 48 hours. By day three, the roses had wilted so dramatically they looked like they'd just come back from Burning Man and needed to "find themselves." For clarity, we did everything properly. Fresh water. Trimmed stems. Clean vase. They were treated better than most houseguests. And yet, here we are. For the price, I expected romance. What I got was a botanical countdown clock. I would genuinely have been better off buying roses at Trader Joe's, and that's not something I say lightly after spending what I did. When you pay premium prices, you assume the flowers will last longer than a long weekend. It's disappointing because the arrangement was lovely and the presentation was great. But at this price point, durability should not be optional. Three days feels less like "Valentine's bouquet" and more like "romantic rental." read more

1st time visiting, small location but helpful and friendly staff. I'm not a plant person but my wife is and she wanted to go. So as the wonderful husband that I am, off we went. I thought it was a bit pricey but my wife said it was about average of most other nurseries she has visited in the area. We spent a good amount of time looking and eventually she selected three things, don't ask me what they are but it had green with color flowers and in a plastic planter. My wife enjoyed the visit so I would say we do recommend this nursery. While the customer service here is good and they have a large selection of plants, I've noticed they have become more profit focused. Unfortunately, the last few plants I've bought here died quickly despite following the tag's plant care directions. With Hawthorne Nursery gone, I thought I would check out what's new at this location. Today I went to see if they had a Passiflora variety and way in the back they had the same large 'Coral' & 'Red Rover' they've had in the back for at least a year. It's sad to me since I raise several kinds of Passiflora, that this nursery hardly, if at all takes care of these plants. Most of the Passiflora (aside from the blue) were dead and if it weren't for the recent bit of rain, I doubt the few blooms they had would have grown at all. I am more than happy to pay a great deal for good quality plants. They let several others last year just dry out and completely die and just discard them. They would rather lose money on them entirely than discount them for those who would need to have the education to try to revive them. I asked the lady who is normally behind the register, how much they want for the nearly dead Passiflora. Her demeanor changed quickly and not so friendly and shaking her head at me saying "whatever it's priced at is the price that it is". My fiancé was with me and even said that was super uncomfortable and odd because we've always had great interactions with her. Oh well, it's now worth the longer drive to Sunset Nursery, where I know I can buy better quality, multiple sizes, and way better pricing for Passiflora and pretty much any plant I want. I gave them a call and they can even order ones if they don't have it. The plants I've gotten there are still healthy and very bountiful. This is my local long time nursery that my family and community have gone to for years, but if I want to spend money somewhere that puts profits over quality and customer retention, I would just go to Home Depot or Lowe's. read more

Say aloe to my little friend, the International Garden Center in El Segundo! I stopped by the IGC to stock up on new plant babies and accessories. This is probably the largest garden center I've visited. There's a huge outdoor area featuring your favorite household plants, flowers, and trees. Including pre-grown fruit trees! Inside, there's also a space filled with hundreds of indoor plants and accessories. During my last visit I picked up a new indoor plant and a stylish clay pot! The team at IGC is incredibly knowledgeable and can provide you all the information you'll need to perfect your green thumb. You can even show photos of your current plant babies for tips and tricks on how to maximize their growth. This spot is easy to get lost in so I'd recommend having a few hours to kill! read more

I go here because it's very convenient and the workers are friendly, even if the products are about 15% more than other places. That said, they're pretty weak on California natives. Like don't even bother coming here. They're located in just about ground zero of the habitat of the endangered El Segundo blue butterfly, and they don't stock sea cliff buckwheat, the one plant on which that species relies. The person helping me knew about it and seemed embarrassed when I asked for it. Because of where the store is located, you'd think they'd make more of an effort with this plant and other natives critical to the local ecosystem. Ended up finding what I needed at Ricardo's in Long Beach, which stocks a ton of native plants. I also learned that the Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy sells some local native plants including the sea cliff buckwheat but it is only open about every other weekend for like 90 minutes! read more

What a delightful garden center and nursery! Spaciously indoor-outdoor situated in El Segundo, International Garden Center offers a well-merchandised range of live plants, pots and planters, seeds (so many!), bulbs, cut flowers, fertilizers and pesticides, live garden-healthy creatures like ladybugs, and hummingbird feeders. Perhaps best of all, IGC houses two sweet cats and six (seven?) chickens! Imagine my surprise as I'm browsing through the impressively-varied (entire wall!) range of flower, vegetable, and fruit seeds...and around the corner casually strolls a CHICKEN! The staff is friendly and helpful - prices are great value for some items and a bit dear for others (but you save on shipping costs associated with online ordering). I went in to procure worms for the garden - IGC has red wigglers which are the king of composting - and walked out with worms as well as purple freesia, pink-and-white and red ranunculus, blue dwarf iris, and mixed Dutch iris bulbs. HUGE SHOUT OUT TO RICHARD! I visited this location for the first time on Saturday and returned on Wednesday because of Richard's kind and knowledgeable customer service. I told him I wanted low maintenance, indoor plants to help purify the air as I also recently rescued a bunny and don't want my house to smell. He gave me suggestions and provided care tips. He let me know what to expect as the plants mature and how to prune/propagate. He was happy to answer all my "silly" questions and recommended various plant supplements. Sadly, years after being a long-time customer of this local nursery I can no longer endorse it highly, if at all. They issued a credit and now refuse to honor or even respond to resolve the matter. We made a large purchase there last summer (over $400) and asked the employees to hold one plant (worth $110) that we had prepaid but were unable to take in our car that day. The following week we had to call and ask whether we could have a credit instead due to work being done in our backyard which postponed even the smallest of outdoor plant installs. The employee we spoke to on the phone last summer said no problem, took our name and said it would be noted on their end. Come this summer when we tried to use our credit, they have not been able to find it, ask US how the credit was documented (isn't that their job?), and their staff, including the general manager Dino, has not acted to resolve this issue after at series of phone calls since the summer until now. Dino called once and left a VM but I've called him back at least 5 times since then. No other phone calls from anyone. We are just looking for our credit or a refund. Very simple. And very straightforward that customer's money should not just be taken by a business without response or recourse. read more

I was pleasantly surprised at the quantity and pricing of the pots they have! Plants are great but they need good pots too! They don't have many succulents but what is available is all healthy. Their houseplant section is also a little small but their plants are wonderful! It was so nice walking through the area looking at plants and pots. I feel like there were plenty of employees around that if you need help someone would be available but you don't feel like they're hovering either. Overall great place! read more

In an effort to make our yard an oasis during the current COVID-19 stay at home order, we bought the most beautiful fuchsia hanging plant that is now blooming wonderful purple & pink flowers. We also purchased a colorful ceramic gecko to mount on the side of our house. The staff were very helpful and were very careful with social distancing and sanitizing the cash payment area. This place is nice and in a good location. They have some really cool plants that you can find in other places too. The location is super convenient and the space is quiet nice. I love the sounds of the wind chimes. I do feel like it's a bit pricier than other nursery. But nonetheless I will come back to see if they have anything unique. I've been looking for decorative seasonal house banner flags. Well, I found them, finally. Liz answered the phone, ( imagine that? ). Everywhere else I called, Target, Manhattan Bch, Walmart, Hawthorne, didn't even answer the phone. Other establishments could have cared less. Liz knew her inventory and pricing. She even mentioned that Mondays are Senior discount days. I wondered how she knew I was a possible senior?? Lol. Honestly I have no clue why this place is so popular. They do have a large variety of very common plants, but they will charge you double the price for them compared to other nurseries. I'm doing this comparison to the garden centers in Gardena and Torrance in particular to Ramirez Nursery (family run). The plants I usually get there for a full grown pot of rare Tradescantia Nanouk ran me at most 7 bucks while over here for a normal small rubber fig I was looking at $15!! Also who heard of a bag of mulch costing $17!?!? Usually I never bat an eye on plant price because I'm pretty obsessed with my indoor jungle, but the lady who helped me was very rude, condescending, and treated me like I was dumb about plants on top of that. It made all the experience and fun of plant shopping awful. She cut me off when I asked for specific plants accusing me of wanting popular Instagram plants for the trend. First off, how do you know which plant I am asking for if you don't let me finish? Second so what if I want them for their aesthetics? She was incredibly judgey and told me to get off social media and no she doesn't have any of the plants I'm looking for. Surprise surprise, she was wrong. I came for a variegated string of hearts which they had two pots of in the back but I was so annoyed that I just left with a fig plant. I'd rather support a smaller mom and pop garden center and drive 15 minutes out than shop here again and they obviously don't need my help because they were selling a Monstera Deliciosa Variegata for close to $800...while Logee's sell them for $179. read more

We come here each year to pick a pumpkin and take pictures of the wee ones in the pumpkin patch. The patch is small but so much more picturesque than the others in the South Bay. There are no temporary chicken wire fences, unsightly white trailers or odd fixtures that get in the way of a good picture for grandma. Pumpkins are of course more expensive than that of a supermarket but reasonable compared to other pumpkin patches. We also like that there are not dozens of unsupervised kids running around. During the pandemic they were allowed to remain open and the Assistant Manager Alicia went above and beyond with all my email orders for contactless pickup. I could hear the phone ringing non-stop in my short time there for pick-up and with the stress of keeping employees and customers safe she showed true professionalism. Sub par customer service when it matters most. I have been shopping at the international garden center for years and spent hundreds of dollars (if not a thousand- plants and trees aren't cheap!). I know I always have paid a premium here but their knowledge of plants was the reason why I kept going back. Though with this latest awful customer service I will not be spending another dime there. They've lost a lifetime customer. I just spent $130 on new plants for our garden. After a couple weeks I noticed 3 of the 20 plants had started to turn brown (the garden sprinklers were not hitting them). I brought the 3 plants to exchange them, thinking the employees there would be as helpful as they are when they sell me plants. One of the workers there walked by me, helping another customer and said she would be right with me (then kept walking and loudly said "looks like someone forgot to water their plants"). She finished up the other customer then came to me. I explained how the sprinklers were not reaching the plants and she informed me those particular plants needed to be hand watered (my fault for sure). She said they do not take exchanges but would make an exception for me with a receipt. I let her know I didn't have one, though I had all the tags on the plants that clearly she could see they were purchased from the international garden center. She said with attitude sorry no exchange. I let her know how many hundreds of dollars I've spent these past few months and still no compassion or even "let me talk with my manager". To say I'm disappointed with the lack of customer service is an understatement. I was surprised because this place has always had such knowledgeable people working there but when rubber hits the road, and you need good customer service I guess true colors shine. If you're looking for a knowledgeable garden center this is the place, but be willing to pay a bit higher prices than others and be aware of lack of customer service if you need help (or at least ALWAYS save your receipts from here). read more

I ordered long stem pink roses to be delivered on Valentine's Day. Everything went well the delivery person was very nice even called me to confirm the address for delivery. Long story short my girlfriend sent me a picture when she received them saying they were beautiful and they were. Only concern was the roses seemed as if they had been fully opened or bloomed for a few days which in my experience meant they wouldn't last very long. She received the flowers on Thursday and by Saturday night they were done. Just a week before this incident I purchased roses from Trader Joe's that lasted 10 days before they showed any signs of dryness. Again very disappointed. read more
