Manhattan deli in Willoughby has been without air conditioning for almost a month. The coolers have failed, with air filters that had not been changed in two years. Some of the coolers have been fixed, but it isn't known how well they are doing in today's heat. Food was thrown out, once at the direction of the health department. The cooks have worked in 140 degree temperatures. People have passed out. A minor threw up because of the heat and was told they couldn't go home. Someone suffered an asthma attack and had to be admitted to the hospital and then was guilted and threatened to come in the next day. OSHA has been out, but no one could tell that the "fixes" failed because the weather wasn't hot. The active complaint number is # 2448729. The lake county health inspector has been out and notified again. But they are there to protect capital. To minimize the risks of lawsuits, but to keep the doors open. Basically to help protect the owners from their own selfish nature. A manager told an employee that if they shut down because of the heat, where would they replace $7000? The employees health is valued less than that. Please share this wherever you can. I can't track down all the people who may have been exposed to contaminated food. I can't talk to every employee that was sickened because revenue was more important than their health. I don't want the restaurant to close, I want tough enough consequences that it is cheaper for them to take care of their employees at work than it is to ignore them. Came in for late dinner at 715 to see a sign of closure at 800 pm. Said we would dine fast - 3 adults. Started with a large matzo ball soup. Came with two matzo balls and nice broth, but it should have been hotter - regardless excellent. Large corned beef on rye - excellent, though bread should have been thicker as it broke apart while eating. Great pickle, ordered a side of potato salad and both were good. Left half for later. We also had a jumbo pastrami reuben and a order of onion rings. Thousand Island dressing and extra kraut were provided. Staff were very attentive, refilled drinks and we were out by 805. Love this place as i took my dad to this restaurant in the 1980-90s which relocated from another plaza and then my mom and our family to this location in 2020s. Wonderful news yesterday! I was in "Manhattan Deli" yesterday for lunch and found out the consortium that has been buying up restaurants all around greater Cleveland (including Manhattan Deli) just sold it. New investors just bought it and the original long term management team is bringing it back to what it was and should remain. So the good old "Manhattan Deli" is back... or at least coming back. I can already see improvements and I can't wait to be able to give them 5 stars again. read more

This was my first and last visit to Manhattan Deli Bar and Grill. The issues encountered on several fronts. To begin the attention by the service staff slow and inattentive. The waitress seemed to be busy with a number other behaviors. Although she was friendly enough once she got back to our table. We placed our orders. the meal was slow coming out. It was about 8:00 PM. The staff seemed more interested in their closing down routines. Our food orders were simple enough a corned beef sandwich and a salad. after a considerable wait our food finally arrived. The corned beef was the driest most tasteless corned beef I have ever attempted to eat. the beef was tasteless so dry it difficult to swallow; even adding horseradish ahend mustard could not make the sandwich palatable. The salad was only slightly better, but not good enough to complete the meal. half the salad was left. Then it took some time to get the check, clearly the staff seemed to be more interested in addressing their closing routine than taking care of their customers. I was pretty irritated with the experience and unfortunately I left my cap behind. The next day I called the Manhattan Deli several times and never got an answer. I did leave a message on their answering machine. the following day I tried calling again. several times actually. Each time the phone was answered but immediately put on hold for in excess of 5 min each time. I finally drove back to the Manhattan Deli. As before the staff was less than helpful and needless to say the cap had disappeared. read more

Marta was an excellent waitress and was very friendly. Food was great. Wish they were closer to where we live. We will be back, it was worth the two hour drive. It has been a year now that the new owners have taken over and we have seen the slow decline in quality as the owners appear to be more concerned with profits than customer satisfaction. We no longer go there for breakfast and after today will not be returning. This review is about our lunch experience. My brother and I tried our favorite meal, King Corn Beef Ruben with a side of fries and onion rings. The server was very pleasant and attentive, but we noticed the difference in setting and food. Items that, to me were less than satisfactory: Cheaper and fattier corn beef. In the past the original owners used Vienna and Sy Ginsberg brand, with the King (their medium size) be piled high with fairly lean corn beef. Now the King is about the size of the regular. In addition, they assembled it with the sauerkraut on first (maybe there was a thin slice of Swiss) but the end result was the bottom piece of bread was soggy require us to eat it as an open sandwich. Their fries and onion rings were smaller portion but the price is over 5 dollars. They switched to plastic glasses (smaller in size). While I can see that if ordering water, to me plastic just beckons an image of cheapness. What was the final was when I went up front to pay the bill, I was asked about our experience. I found out later the manager was there as I explained our disappointment. While the server expressed an apology (which was not her fault), the manager left without a word either as an apology or acknowledgement of our disappointment. It is my 2nd time there. The first time the food and service were slow . The portions is good. and the food looked good but my Rubin was very dry. I came back today, because the restaurant is close to my hotel and I like to support local brands when I am traveling. This time however, I am astonished and disappointed. Although the server was trying her best, my meal chicken meal was under cooked and the blood was very visible , the server took it back to the kitchen and 12 minutes later I got a new plate, the second bite I saw the blood coming out of the chicken again.. I waited for the server so I don't make a seen, then i saw and stopped the hostess as she was going back to the front and showed her tge blood. I told her that I am done and I would like my check. She apologized and took my plate back to the kitchen. My server came back and gave me my bill. Over the years , I opened many restaurants around the US and overseas, and I travelled to-over 40 states here in the US. To have a customer visit with you is a privilege, to receive a second visit is holy gift. To make a mistake is human and also an opportunity to show case your service and build loyalty through great recovery; however to make a mistake twice and not even care to come and apologize, is appalling . this shows that the manager doesn't not care and or incompetent. It came out with eggs underdone, it literally contained 4 chopped pieces of ham. The side was burnt potatoes. The toast was cold and had huge hunks of butter on top. So it couldn't even melt. I've ordered this so many times and it never looked like this. It was so bad today. - my son's French toast was ordered before our meals and his came out well after ours. Even the server didn't understand why. So we fed him part of his dad's salad. - The French toast when it did arrive was soooo oily. Crispy on the outside and goo in the middle. He wouldn't touch it. - The server suggested a "quick meal" option since we had two kids (toddler and infant) and the kitchen was "backed up". My replacement "quick meal" was a turkey sandwich on sourdough with lettuce, tomato, and onion. $1 extra for the slice of tomato and piece of onion. It was so. dry. The crust was so stale. I shared that with the server and said "it's not your fault". She said "nothing is good to you". Okay. - I didn't eat it but was charged for it. I should have just left without a replacement. I've been to the Manhattan Deli three times over the past two years to meet up with ex retired co-workers "friends" and have nothing but good to say about everthing from the cleanliness off the establishment, friendliness of the staff and the quality of the food. I have long been a fan of Manhattan Deli in Richmond Hts & Mentor. I now live near one in Willoughby so I placed a carry-out order. We order what we usually order - 1 Reuben, 1 corned beef & latkes. Both were expensive & disappointing. The Reuben had no cheese I could find, while the meat had little taste. The nearly $20 sandwich came with no side - a dollop of potato salad or coleslaw was over $5 extra. As for the other dish. that was a real bust. In contrast to the crispy, hash-brown type pancakes we expected. the latkes were floppy, tasteless pancakes. We requested applesauce as the side. Instead, we got sour cream. The corned beef was tasteless here too. For a $35 order, we were gifted 1 pickle. Supposedly, this restaurant is not connected to other local restaurants with the same name - though the logo & menus are identical. Food is normally really good here. Service is sometimes suspect. Today I arrived before 6:00 pm and was seated in the bar. I ordered soup and a Ruben. The soup and drink came out as expected. 50 minutes later after being told a few times that sandwich would be right up. I told the bartender I needed to leave. Manhattan Deli bar and grille sits in a wrap around strip mall in Willoughby, Ohio. Both indoor and outdoor seating is available as well as takeout. When my family arrived I noticed a sign at the hostess station asking patrons of groups of 1-5 people to limit their visit to an hour and 6-10 people to 1 1/2 hours. My family of three were seated prompted and were given both breakfast and lunch menus. There was so much to choose from so I finally decided to to try their half soup/sandwich combination for $8.95. I choose matzah ball soup and half a hot pastrami sandwich on rye bread. My husband had the Manhattan club salad and potato salad. My daughter ordered the grilled cheese with re fried French fries. I asked the waitress about chopped liver since I had noticed it was absent from the menu. She told me that it was not in much demand so they are not carrying it. She told me she would have my soup out shortly. When I got my soup I was blown away at how large the portion was! It was piping hot and served with oyster crackers. Needless to say it was very good. I got my half sandwich when the rest of the order came and it was half of a standard size sandwich served with a fresh pickle. It wasn't overly big compared to the soup but still tasted very good. Both my husband and daughter were well pleased with their choices. Some of the menu items such as blintzes would have been nice if they were set up as a side dish but they don't offer it that way. When we were given the check we were told to pay at the deli counter. The deli/takeout counter isn't really a full deli per se, but instead offers a nice selection of hearty cheesecakes, carrot cakes, cookies, and rugelach.-All those sweet desserts!! Above the pay station is a rotating video of some of their sandwich selections. This was a great place to dine and service was fast, friendly, and helpful. Prices are reasonable too. The service was friendly but slow. A lot of the staff were leaning and yapping, as our waitress hurried to try and fill all of the orders she had. The I in team there was really unattractive. The food was great, but super pricey for a deli. They're really proud of their $15 corned beef sandwich, which looks nothing like the photos on the flashy advertising screen above the bar. Sure it was good, but not fantastic. We also ordered the chicken Marsala, Big boy burger and a veggie wrap that arrived with almost cold fries. We also had 2 cups of matzo ball soup, mozzarella sticks and a corned beef sandwich to go. Everyone had non alcoholic beverages and our bill with tax and 15% tip was over $70! For lunch! We were each going to get a piece of cheesecake, but not at $6.99 a slice!!! Yes, I would say it's safe to say that your dollar does not stretch far at Manhattan Deli. Happened upon this restaurant by accident, looking for something else that didn't work out. My vegetarian friend and I were quite pleased. They had a nice mix of vegetarian friendly choices and a bunch of other choices. I had an open face Turkey sandwich with fries and bowl of chicken noodle soup. The sandwich and fries were delicious. The soup was pretty generic, but still delicious. My friend had a grilled cheese and also a avocado toast that looked amazing. The service was very good and just added to the experience. The deserts looked amazing also. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars was the soup looked premade. But, I would definitely go back if I was in the area. read more
