I frequently long for a restaurant with homestyle meals. That type of meal seems long forgotten. Like a proper meal with potatoes and bread (that's my Eastern European soul speaking). Joe's Avenue Eatery excels at this serving hearty soups, roasts, meatloaf, chicken paprikash, and other hearty dishes. I've visited the restaurant after my first time years ago. I should have returned sooner, dinner was so delicious. AMBIANCE: The place feels like you're dining in someone's spacious kitchen while watching TV (college sports). The place is simple, vintage but somehow very homey. It's great for dining solo and in groups. Various seating options like tables and booths are available. The crowd tends to be older. The people who dine here actually look at each other and not their phones. The multi course meal makes you also slow down and properly enjoy dinner. FOOD: The menu has multiple pages of meals that would appeal to any taste. They have all day breakfast, seafood, sandwiches, stir fry, pastas, burgers, wraps, soups, and more. Everything that I tried on the menu is really good and tastes homemade. My most recent order was Fork Tender Pork Roast Dinner ($16.99). The meal is a fantastic value. It comes with a side, veggies, bread roll, one visit to the salad and soup bar, free dessert (if you dine in). I first visited salad and soup bar selecting chicken soup from two options (the other was veggie). The soup was perfectly hot but at the end of the pot (not much chicken). It still tasted homemade and hearty. Pork roast was one of the best pot roasts I've ever tasted, meat was perfectly tender. Gravy was just delicious and plenty. The roll was still warm. Mashed potatoes were a bit chunky but that added to their homestyle charm. The entire meal just made me so warm and cozy. I took about half of my meal to go, it was pretty big serving. But really it's because I wanted to leave room for my favorite dessert - spumoni ice cream. I think of this ice cream often. It's served with whip cream, chocolate drizzle, and contains very tasty nuts. I can't wait to eat the rest of my meal at home. The eatery has plenty of specials for weekends and weekdays. If you dine between 2-5 PM on Monday-Thursday, you can get $11.99 meal. That includes tasty options like Grilled Pork Chop, Beef Liver & Onions, Polish Sausage with Pepper and Onions, and others. I really enjoyed Beef Liver & Onions. I miss a good place the can prepare liver as an Eastern European. Amazingly even $11.99 meal includes a trip to salad and soup bar. SERVICE: The service was top notch especially considering that the dining floor was served by two waitresses. My waitress Lisa was so attentive to all customers and so pleasant. Honestly five star service. I look forward to the next meal here and already re-reading the menu to plan my next hearty dinner. I saw Chicken Paprikash on their weekend specials list on the way out. I'm a huge chicken paprikash addict so it might be my next meal. I highly recommend checking out this eatery with your family for a homestyle meal and meaningful conversation. read more

Came here with my dad for breakfast after an appointment he had. He comes here now and again with his friends. Even toting a coupon from the church bulletin. We sat in a booth and each ordered coffee. Our server Desiree was very friendly, and smiley. You have to love a pleasant server. The other server was great at tag teaming coffee refills. This is a homey type of diner. Family pictures as you enter. We opted for the Irish skillet breakfast with toast. It was hash browns with corned beef, Swiss cheese and two eggs on top with a side of toast. It was an ample amount and we took some home in boxes. The food was tasty, service is great and reasonably priced. Look forward to returning. Had a nice time just chatting with my dad over a nice breakfast. read more

This place was really good. My mom and I stopped over for lunch (late) after a long browse at Antiques and Uniques. Actually, the staff there recommended Joey's. Anyway, they had clam chowder and a salad bar, so we were all in. We had a plate of fresh salad each - nothing fancy, but fresh and good, and a small cup of the chowder. I had the fish sandwich, and enjoyed it, but my mom's fried chicken platter was the real MVP. It was huge - 4 pieces, I think, and it was fresh and crispy, and sooo good. I think it was $17, but for the dinner, salad, and she got a small dessert, it was a great value! The server was super friendly, and it was a pretty laid back place. I stopped here with my family for dinner 6 times now coming through for the weekend. While the atmosphere was mostly alright, there were workers cussing and yelling in front, bald angry manager that I've dealt with before yelling slamming things and smoking cigarettes inside the kitchen, constantly blaring obnoxiously vulgar music in the kitchen as-well as smoking marijuana right outside the restaurant while on shift. If this is what we can see from just outside the kitchen I don't even want to know what goes on in there!!! Mind you this is just the start, all the staff except for one host "a younger girl" have been absolutely rude and uncooperative when I asked to have sauce and sauerkraut on my Ruben. They said they'd go get a manager and this bald guy came out and of course had to cop an attitude and then just proceeded to completely walk away, Salad bar had brown lettuce 3 out of 3 times along with the dressings mixed into each other. granted it might just be night shift fed up but this is bizarre and unacceptable. Would highly advise against coming to this place and honestly if they want any hope in bringing this place together, they've got some people to fire and some regulations to change ASAP. I am quite honestly considering reporting this to the necessary authorities,this place is ridiculous. read more

We have often gone in for the soup and salad bar. Lately the salad is sucked. The iceberg lettuce is brown and weak not happy.

I was there on a Friday and I got the all you can eat lake perch. It comes with a salad and soup salad was good. The soup had long hair in it. I told the waitress about it. She didn't say sorry or anything about it. I asked to talk to a manager, they was not in, and she still wanted to charge me for the soup and a salad and then come down with more soup hair everywhere not in the net So I perceive to just walk out, it was not handled and a kind manner at all I will not be going back to fellowship with friends and family. Decided to try a new breakfast place for eggs Benedict. Place was nice and clean. Plenty of space. Food was excellent. Service was a little slow even though it was not busy and had quite a few wait staff on hand. Not offered refill on coffee and noticed other customers asking for a refill. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone. It used to be a restaurant that I felt like a valued patron, but not anymore. The front is seldom watched and you can stand there for10 minutes before anyone seats you, even if the restaurant is fairly open. My companion and I stopped there one night (it once was a favorite of ours) and each of us ordered a dinner. Mine was chopped sirloin; his was liver and onions. We were asked how we wanted our orders cooked. My chopped steak was to be "only pink in the middle" and I am not even sure why they would ask how the liver should be cooked. Anyway, my chopped sirloin was burned on the bottom (as in black burned) and his liver in some spots were overcooked and was like leather. When we brought it to the attention of the server, she apologized for the cook but did not offer to replace anything or offer us a discount (such as charging us just for the soup and salad). I suggested to her that if the cook prepares his food like that, maybe he would like to eat it and pay for it. What happened to their good service and good food? First time at this local diner. Although the soup and salad bar looked amazing, decided to have breakfast. Lots of tables but good spacing. Clean place with friendly waitresses. Good and quick service. The vegetable omelette was great loaded with fresh ingredients. Toast was served hot. Potatoes were ok and will likely pass on them next tine. Never again! First time I came in, was an order for pick up. Walked in the door, no one behind the counter, and stood there for over five minutes, waiting for somebody to come out. When she did, she proceeded to help the person that came in three minutes after me I showed a little irritation, and I guess she copped an attitude. The next time I came in was to dine in, and the same girl came out and took my coffee order. When I got my coffee, it was in a filthy cup! It was from a bussed table, and they didn't even try to clean it. I could still wipe off coffee residue from the last person that used it. read more

I had the chicken fried steak and fried potatoes. It was just way too greasy and drowning in gravy I couldn't finish it. The potatoes are some of my favorite but they were swimming in grease I just couldn't eat them. The appetizers of mozzarella sticks and chicken fingers was good. My husband had the fried chicken and salad bar and he liked both. The chicken noodle soup was good but had very little chicken. The atmosphere is casual and family friendly. The prices are very affordable. We've gone here for years even before they changed names. Not sure if it was just a bad night for them or if something changed in the kitchen. read more

I used to like this place but I doubt I'll go back. They false advertise. We stopped in at about 10:30 am and after waiting in the lobby for a few minutes decided to go in and seat ourselves. That's when a server came rushing toward us and told us we had to wait to be seated but didn't "know where she is". Anyway, so we waited a little longer until who I presume was some sort of hostess led us into the dining area, waved at the many open tables, and said we can sit wherever we liked! I'm not kidding! None of that bothered me very much, I just thought it was strange. What was really disappointing was the poster in the window advertises authentic "Kronos" Gyro meat which is something I enjoy. So I was looking forward to my gyro breakfast. I was disappointed when my meal included that bulk, packaged gyro meat that looks (and tastes) like sliced Spam. When I said something about it at checkout I was asked if I wanted to speak to the owner. No, why would I? He knows he lied and pulled a bait and switch. We had a late breakfast here. I had the Waffle combo & the wife had Eggs Benny. The waffle was hot & crispy. Bacon was crispy. The eggs benny was really good! The English muffin was toasted nicely without being hard. She got the sauce on the side. Sauce was ok. It needed more lemon. We never had to ask for anything - our Waitress was attentive without being annoying. She was so friendly & sunny! We didn't wait long for our food & they were moderately busy.
