This place is perfect for designers and artist that are looking for finishing touches to a shoe design or to keep a fashion piece together. As an artist myself occasionally I looking for a completing item for either an art piece or clothing design. This time I was searching for something to style a shoe. I have a friend that recommended MWS. I took the elevator to the 8th floor and enter the studio space store. I immediately saw many shoe and leather dying items, shoelaces, etc. At the other end of the store you can find plenty of items to secure costumes or clothing mishaps from occurring. I purchased leather straps for a pair of shoes and comfort & security items to place in/on my shoes. My husband found some really cool laces for his kicks. The entire purchase was about $20 in total. I love going to MWS! They always have what I need! And cosplayers, they even have Worbla (the regular, black, clear, and I also remember seeing the white one too)! And what I really like about the worbla at MSW is that it's a bit cheaper compared to online stores! When I first came here a couple of years ago, I was getting some worbla for the 1st time in my life and Becca really helped me! I used it for some of my cosplay projects! The first floor is for sewing supplies, paints, cosplay related stuff, art supplies etc and the upper floor is mostly makeup! I think some of the other stuff they sell is a bit overpriced, but other than that, they have great stuff, the store is neat and the staff is always friendly whenever I visit! read more

They are often out of stock of many things. You would think that with a competent inventory system, that wouldn't happen. Although this is my go-to place, I will be using Wawak and other online stores whenever possible. MWS doesn't have much competition and I think that's why their prices are high and their stock is low. Lastly, I had a horrible experience in which I made a mistake ordering a huge amount of one thing online. When I asked for a refund, they would only offer credit, even though the mistake was very obvious. Credit, when you're shooting a film, is worthless. The production company is not going to ever use it so it's just wasted money. Lesson learned. Best to shop elsewhere. read more

Just had a fabulous experience here! I went in looking for this specific fabric dye that I had read about, and one of the ladies, sensing that I was a novice, took me under her wing and showed me a cheaper, easier, and better type of dye for my purposes. She even went above and beyond to give me detailed instructions and insider tips on how to make sure my dye job turned out perfectly. Oh, and I overheard some of the employees talking behind the counter; turns out that the stylists from Gossip Girl are regulars here. I ended up passing this building because they are currently doing construction and the number of the building is written in black paint on a piece of wood. I came more for the makeup and it is located on the 9th floor. Very neat and nice setup, I like that they have a variety of items in bulk. I agree with the other reviews that it is more on the expensive side, I can get the same items for cheap somewhere else. A fabulous place! I went here to find some fabric dye and ended up wandering around for an hour and left with a bag full of fun stuff. They have EVERYTHING you can imagine for keeping your clothes and closets in top condition but also have tons of theatre supplies and makeup. It was so much fun and the staff were so so nice. I love this place! The building itself looks kind of sketch because there's a bunch of construction going on. You question if you're in the right place since you need to take the elevators up to the 8th and 9th floor of MWS. The 8th floor is the majority of the store, with things for hair, shoes, undergarments, costuming, etc. The 9th floor is all makeup. Keep in mind this store mostly caters to professionals, so the stock comes in larger quantities than those of us who wander in shopping for ourselves (I don't need 1000 bobby pins!). You come here for the quality of product and the excellent service. I'm never been looked down on for not being a professional, and everyone has always been super helpful and nice. read more

This review is for the pro makeup section/floor. MWS is quickly becoming a regular stop for my hair/makeup needs. They have an extensive (and seemingly always growing) supply of FX makeup and supplies, along with every possible item I need for my kit, Vueset palettes, brush cleaner, disposables, every skin illustrator palette imaginable, tattoo pens, everything. Prices are on par with (or cheaper than) what I've seen online, and they also offer a pro discount for working artists. It's a bonus to not have to wait a full week for my flammable liquids to ship from the west coast. I came in today to stock up for a last-minute job and Jaci helped me out. She was SO knowledgeable and fast. She's usually the employee that I deal with when I shop there and hers is a face I'm happy to see! She also made some great product recommendations. This is the store for things you need to alter or make more wearable your clothing: all kinds of dye (I bought suede dye), lots of stuff like sticky bras and underwear and things for a smooth and strapless look under clothes. Love this place! I'm a Makeup Artist and they carry all of the items I need to organize my kit, and they're NEVER out of stock! From THE BEST sponges and puffs to the fabulous Kim Greene makeup bags and brush holders. They have every kind of case you can imagine and you can use them for more than just makeup. I use one of the rolling cases for my hall closet. I keep tools and gift wrapping supplies in them, too..... I buy all of my laundry cleaning items there as well, they carry everything. I call Manhattan Wardrobe Supply "Manhattan's best-kept secret" as everyone I tell about it has never heard of it! They have everything you could possible need when it comes to clothing (and some things you never knew existed). It is a Mecca of stain removal products and when I went to F.I.T. it was the closest place to buy thread at a reasonable price. They also have a floor devoted to beauty (Manhattan Beauty Supply) which gives a 15% discount to make-up artists. It is very well stocked for it's size although some of the lines they carry are a little too high-end for me to put in my kit. I hadn't been to this shop in several years and needed a unique hair product on the fly. I checked the website and saw they had it and then called to double check. The staff was very friendly and took their time to help me. When I got to the place, I forgot how amazing this store really is. A small space, but packed solid with everything under the sun you could possibly think of and then some! They also added a beauty supply store on the next floor up. I didn't have much time to look around, but definitely have plans of going back to browse. It tends to be a little more pricey, but I think it helps that most of this stuff isn't readily available in other stores. I would give 0 stars if I could and I am 100% never going to this place again. I bought a tattoo pen to use for comic con and not only did it come apart, but it dyed my hands gray for the weekend. So I tried to return the product and get my money back but they only give store credit. That kind of policy is already pretty bull, but I asked if they'd make an exception since it was clearly a faulty product and I had no use for it past comic con. I am also not a professional makeup artist or costumer and would most likely never come back to this place. The only things I would buy there regularly are things I could get at any convenience store for half the price. I also felt extremely hesitant to buy anything unique to the store since the one thing I'd bought had been defective. They refused to give me a refund so I ended up picking out some of the overpriced random products like make up remover wipes even though they were literally twice the price I would have paid elsewhere. The cashier proceeded to give me a lecture about how they're a small business and how most beauty stores won't let you return stuff and got very holier than thou with me. I told her I wasn't even blaming her, but I don't plan on giving any more of my money to someone shady enough to not give a refund when their product was the problem. If you're a "small business" then it'd probably make more sense to cultivate patronage by being accommodating rather than sell stuff that falls apart and then lecture people. To be honest, I thought the store was really awesome when I first walked in and thought I'd really like to use it to improve my cosplay game, but now I will find anywhere else to get the products I need because I don't need this headache in my life.
