Absolutely loved and enjoyed our visit at the Manila Hotel. It was trip down memory lane for my family and I. We came here after Father's Day weekend and had brunch at Cafe Ilang Ilang. The Manila Hotel is beautiful and the history of it all speaks volumes. The architecture, art pieces and ambience highlights the culture and foundation of this amazing hotel. When walking inside Manila Hotel they have many beautiful Filipiniana gowns displayed by many different artists. Each gown is meticulously pieced together by Filipino artists and stylists. It was important for us to see this hotel as we pass on the importance of culture and history to our children. I remember when I was much younger my grandparents and grandfather would take us here for lunch and during the summer when I'm off school with family and friends. The Manila Hotel has sentimental value for our family (on both sides). My grandfather was a prominent lawyer in the 70s, 80s and 90s. When he was busy working and meeting clients here, he would make sure to have us picked up and brought here so he wouldn't miss dinner with us. Love the aesthetics of the hotel along with the paintings that hang along the hotel and the hallway towards Cafe Ilang Ilang. Felt the history of it all when I last visited Manila Hotel at 8 years old. Thankful to be able to visit this place and show our child the rich history of Manila Hotel so she can write about it. Will be staying here on our next visit. We can't wait. read more

The Manila Hotel was built in 1912 and I believe it is the oldest hotel in the PH. It is so old skool it reminds me of the Moana in Waikīkī. The staff is super professional, and they wear old skool white uniforms. During Christmas they have a beautiful Filipino themed tree, and the hotel is a popular place to hold wedding receptions. The next time I come to the PH, I would like to stay a couple of nights at the Manila Hotel. I would enjoy its old skool nostalgia and charm. read more

I stayed here for several days during the month of December. The decor was impressive. The doormen welcomes you by opening the door for you. Then you pass through a metal detector/ scanner. The staff wears traditional/ cultural outfit. I love the ambience of this hotel. The breakfast buffet was amazing. Lots of choices from different countries. The staff were friendly, helpful and accommodating. Musicians played classical and Christmas music during the evening hours. UNFORTUNATELY they keep the door of the bar open that plays loud live music. Basically competing with the pianist and violinist. Unbelievable. Hard to appreciate good music if you're forced to listen to both. Room is clean but the carpet is definitely old. Highly recommended if you like historic places. read more

I did not stay here since not only was it booked up for a medical conference -- one of many that they host -- but the price per night at a 5-star establishment in an East Asian country was still a bit high to me ($150+/ night). Otherwise, it is a very historical hotel located near the Ocean Front and the dictatorship-esque Rizal Park which maybe warrants a visit. I only visited for a wedding held at one of its grand ball rooms. I am not sure if it was part of a packaged deals as a wedding venue, but the ball room decor was absolutely dreamy! I visited the hotel during Thanksgiving time, therefore Christmas decor was also in full effect within the main lobby area which was quite grand and magical. The hotel is also rather secure, therefore hotel visitors must pass through a metal detector prior to entering. The hotel operates a buffet style/ dim-sum type restaurant in the back but this seems to be for hotel guests only which is included in each stay. They also have a restaurant on the side and a small cafe/ bakery in the front which seems to be open to anyone. The baked goods at the cafe were quite delightful! Many patrons were taking them for carry out too. I had an ube ensaymada while sitting at one of the couched chairs lining the window near the cafe. The workers were great about helping me secure this table. The hotel workers, in general, were quite hospitable. For example, I was not a guest there, but the porters offered to track down my Grab for me upon its arrival. Concierge was also great about getting my small envelope to a guest staying at the hotel. It is a neat, classy hotel which is an anomaly in Metro Manila, and although historical and grand for Philippine standards, I've stayed at sleeker 5-star hotels in other Asian countries (w/ higher GDP) for cheaper. HOWEVER, this is one of the nicer hotels if not the nicest hotel you can find in Metro Manila. read more

I checked in last night at 12 AM and got to bed at 1:30 AM after a long flight. Around 3 am all the lights and the TV turned on and the phone rang and woke us up. It happened four times and it made it impossible to sleep. I called the front desk at 4 AM and they said they would stop doing it. I finally went to sleep around 5:30 AM. I complained to the front desk and they said they were testing out the generators and there was nothing we do about it. I wish I recorded it but I was trying to sleep. They need to suspend or fire who ever's decision it was to do that at 3 AM and not in the afternoon when they knew it would reset everything and turn on all lights/TVs/phone systems. Horrible 0 star experience from a "5 star" hotel. Literally the worst. NEVER STAYING HERE AGAIN!!!! read more

My brother's travel agent recommended The Manila Hotel for my quarantine stay in Manila. I was drawn by the history of the hotel and had heard about the renovations so I decided to choose it. I had wanted a room with a sunset view so it would be something I could look forward to. Thankfully, my room was upgraded to a suite and surely had the sunset view. Just gorgeous and spacious! There was a variety of foods to choose from for breakfast, lunch and dinner and I had my favorites. I was told that their halo halo is good so I had that today. As my time draws to a close, I will say it felt like a home away from home. The only one thing that was a slight hiccup was short staffing downstairs. My brother had to wait a while to drop off things for me because only one person was helping. Would highly recommend! read more

I always wanted to stay here. Classy hotel. Stayed here for a night. The doormen greeted visitors with a warm welcome to the building. You then come through "security" screening. The lobby is beautiful and elegant with piano music playing in the background. Booked my room for the night thru a third party discounted rate. The hallway leading to the room was nice and clean. We went in the room with two twin beds, facing Manila Bay ( I didn't think it was the best view since all I saw was the awful rooftop and the port. The room had a lot of intricate wooden closet doors and some shells designed walls. It was a clean room. The beds were nice and firm perfect for just one person. I think I slept well. The bathroom looked nice at a glance until you actually shower in in. There were orange stains in the shower. The towels were scratchy. I did not have any face towel. The toiletries (shampoo/conditioner/bath gel) didnt seem like they were full. I did not see the hairdryer in the bathroom. The iron was not there. I didnt bother to look. Making a local call cost P25/call. I got different information when making calls. Initially, there was one person that said it was free as long as it is within the Metro Manila area. Someone actually comes to your room to collect the payment right away. The booking I made did not include breakfast. We ended up paying for our breakfast at Cafe Ilang Ilang. The servers were great. Very welcoming and friendly. Upon check out, the front desk personnel advised there was a P50 charge for calls made which I cleared. Asked me the numbers I called (which the operator dialed out for me). The front desk receptionist gave me a card with a handwritten notation we checked out. When I asked for a copy if my invoice, he claimed that I should receive it from the third party agency. I rate the hotel with only four stars based on the disappointment I had with the bathroom issue and towels. In addition to the experience I encountered making a local call. The scratchy towels and the orange stains, the operator- assisted calls and charged P25/call and the no invoice took away points from the 5 rating. Only got to visit the massive lobby at this beloved and historical Filipino hotel. We were greeted by handsome doormen and beautifully clad Filipino hostesses. We bypassed the lobby and turned to enter the back bar area. Photos from famous celebrities and dignitaries line their walls. The food and drink prices were very reasonable. Enjoyed their coconut liquor and friend enjoyed an actual coconut nut with a straw and spoon. The fried shrimp and smoked salmon is as it should be. Loved the local sisig with a raw egg on it. This hotel is located at the heart of Manila Historical monuments and Heritage site. Walking distance are Rizal park, Art Museum, St Augustine Museum and the "Walled City" called Intramuros (dating the colonization period by the Spaniards). The hotel has views of the Manila port and is close to the bay. At the Ermita, across the road you can rent Kalesa (horse carrage) or bamboo bikes and take a tour of all the important historic and heritage locations. Within the proximity along the walls is also a golf course that has night golf. The hotel is the oldest premiere hotel in the Philippines built in 1909 and was opened on the commemoration of American Independence on July 4, 1912. Its penthouse served as the residence of General Douglas MacArthur during his tenure as the Military Advisor of the Philippine Commonwealth. The Hotel lobby and structure retains the architecture that dates back to its origin. The restaurants serve local filipino cusine and also American and Chinese options. I have to admit, this hotel has been well preserved and you can feel the history of the place from the moment you enter. From the actual building itself to the staff uniform, it was a great experience overall. Entering the hotel you are greeted with a warm welcome from all the staff - whether it be early morning or late in the evening, the staff is always welcoming (literally all day long!). Before you can enter the lobby area, you have to go through a quick security screening. My family and I arrived around noon and had early check in, our check in process was very quick and we got the rooms keys to our rooms within 10 minutes. We got to our room and our bellhop was already at the front of our room waiting for us. The view was spectacular and they even had a little plate of fruit and bottled waters as a welcoming gift! Within the first 15 minutes of being in our room we had noticed our toilet was having issues, so we called and they sent a staff member right away to assist and fix the issue. They also sent another staff member to clean the bathroom after the fixed it. Luckily we had two rooms and hung out in the other room. All in all they did the fix/clean up in less than 15 minutes. We didn't even notice they had left! Wherever we went, whether just walking the hallways, eating at the buffet or even just entering or exiting, the staff at the Manila Hotel made is a very personable and welcoming experience. If you're ever in town and want to visit a historical area, this hotel is right in the center of it all. Definitely highly recommend everyone to stay here! I will definitely be staying here when I visit again in the future. Bonuses: They have a shuttle service that takes you to key landmark areas - the service runs throughout the day (make sure to check the schedule) & you also get a free breakfast buffet! Lastly, idk if this is important to you (cus it is for me) but their WiFi signal is amazingly strong, other hotels I've stayed at in Manila struggled at keeping a strong connection. It was a very long flight from the U.S. and it was also a very long day after conducting a Dental/Medical Mission in Balanga Bataan to help our poor and needy brothers and sisters (kababayan). We are very tired, and exhausted but feeling very happy to accomplish our mission. Since we are going to do a mission in Manila tomorrow, we decided to check in to the Manila Hotel for one night so we don't have to travel far. All I can say is this, you can have the best-looking hotel in the world with a proud and rich history, but what makes it great is the people, teams, workers who runs it. You guys need to do better, please! Pay attention if the customer is speaking to you and acknowledge them. Don't ignore them and minimize the personal chit-chat. Hotel room maintenance team, please fix the hard-to-close curtains, fix the shower head and the housekeeping department, please vacuum the carpet in a proper manner. This hotel used to be prestigious, well, not anymore. They jam packed the lobby with tables causing a battalion of all kinds of people camping out in the lobby all day long. Saw questionable people walking through the lobby. Saw someone in house clothes with curlers in her hair checking in at the front desk. Seems like this hotel has lost its class. Employees are dressed very nicely and are polite, respectful and even helpful, but the ambiance of the hotel has really gone to the dogs, it's actually very disappointing. My fiance and I were so close to signing a wedding contract here and decided not to. Here's why. We decided to visit randomly to check our the customer service. Note - we are Filipino-Americans that are visiting the hotel, so we don't know much about the hotel other then that they are 1) historic and 2) near the church we are planning our wedding. When we arrived at the hotel, we toured a bit and decided to go to the Champagne room. Upon arrival, we asked for a table for 2 - to which they sat us. They then took our order. We were the only ones in the restaurant at that time so it was either 1) Filipinos aren't into brunch/afternoon tea or 2) they don't have business - so it was a bit odd. As we were finishing up our entree, the host that sat us came to our table and asked us how our meal was. This is where it started going downhill, becauase then he proceeded to question if we were a part of a larger party at the hotel. We said no. He asked if we were guests. We said no. And then he said... "Well, i wasn't supposed to sit you guys here because you aren't dressed but next time you should dress up." In addition to that, his entire staff was staring at our table waiting for him the present the news.... And in addition to that, after we called our check - they gave us 500 pesos back all in change (we know y'all got paper and needed to make it harder for us). Needless to say, we dodged a huge bullet and did not sign our wedding contract with this venue. You don't tell your customers your wrongdoing and make them feel bad for it. Sadly, the story of our experience has spread like wildfire so if anyone is planning their wedding here or any event - just know they may treat you well if they think you have money and your potential guests like complete crap.. Customer service goes a long way. Too bad Manila Hotel doesn't have any. read more

With an array of both international and Filipinos dishes for both breakfast and dinner, you won't get bored of the options even if you're staying at the hotel for a couple of nights. I'm giving 4 stars as the beds were super hard. I'm used to a fluffy, soft bed, and our beds felt almost like cardboard in a sense, and the pool area wasn't jaw dropping, but clean and does its purpose. The location is great! Walking distance to Ocean Park and Rizal Park, so we were able to enjoy those within stone throws reach. The hotel itself (and rooms) are beautiful and Filipino traditionally decorated. Would recommend it to anyone who would love a much more "fancy" stay in Manila. read more

My wife was actually worried about the Manila Hotel. She said "What if there are ghosts in the room?" I wasn't worried about actual ghosts, but as we confirmed with our wedding reception venue coordinator that yes, we were going to avail of the 2 nights free at the Manila Hotel that she was throwing in as part of the package, I was worried that the room might look like it had ghosts. There's no question that the Manila Hotel is a landmark. After all, the Beatles did stay there, during their one and only visit to Manila. General Douglas McArthur was actually General Manager of the hotel, given the title after outstaying his welcome as a non-paying guest. So while I expected a taste of history, and not the good kind, we were pleasantly surprised that the hotel managed to keep up with the times without losing its proudly traditional Filipino styling. The rooms smelled great, the service was awesome, and we thoroughly enjoyed our first 2 nights as a married couple because of them. Makes me feel like you really don't care. With the buffet dinning closed to guests that have more important things to do than worry about making reservations in their own hotel I was left with the only option of the alacarte area near the bar. As well as other resorts around the Philippines. - for the price, feature, and location; the stay at Manila hotel cannot justify its price. - buffet: food is decent many selections but definitely expensive and not of quality compared to other destinations. - pool: small size for a big hotel - gym: up to date good equipment -spa: lots of showers, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room available. (Looks great to) - room service: not consistent. One day was good then the next 2 days was cold and tasted old. Had the experience of staying in this hotel during my vacation last February . Since the breakfast buffet was part of the package, we happily avail of it. And I had the experience of my life. Ordered my decaf coffee as soon as we got the table, when I came back, coffee was not there, tried to asked for it again, finally on the fifth time trying to get it, I went to see a manager and asked what it takes to get one, she said apologizing that she'll get it right away. I asked if I can get a pot since it takes forever to get it, finally after 10 minutes , I got the pot of coffee but without a cup, so I have to stand up and get it myself. Manila Hotel is one of the most iconic hotels dating back in the 1900s. I stayed here during a conference and really enjoyed my stay. I love how they designed the rooms to have an old world charm to it. My room is called Intramuros suite with antique furnitures and since I appreciate vintage stuff it was fine with me although some of my colleagues thought​ it was a bit outdated. We spent 4 nights in a room on the 13th floor. Main lobby is pure elegance, tables/chairs and sofas with live music provided by either a single pianist or a string/piano quintet. Furniture in the room also reflects the hotel's attention to detail. Temperature completely adjustable, linens clean, bathroom spotless and really huge. We both used the complementary slippers and robes - very comfortable! Breakfast buffet is incredible. American, Filipino, Japanese, Indian, Korean, English - they have something for every cuisine and every taste, from eggs and meat to muesli and yogurt. And if it isn't on the buffet somewhere, ask and it'll suddenly appear. Dinner buffet outclasses any dinner buffet I've ever been to. Multiple carving stations, food from every cuisine, and - just like breakfast - if it isn't in a serving bowl somewhere, they'll make it for you... no questions asked. Pure elegance. I've been to Manila Hotel countless times for Cafe Ilang-Iland and to attend weddings but I've only tried to stay here overnight once. It was my friend's debut after-party, and just as college kids would have it, we were all trying to scare the crap out of each other. Luckily, nothing really happened and no one really saw or felt anything. In fact, I did have a lovely sleep that night because of the hotel's plush pillows and comfortable bed. I have always wanted to stay overnight at this hotel. Hubby and I got to do that earlier this year and for two nights might I add. Hahaha... not to boast. In preparation of our stay, we saved money because we knew staying here was pricey. I agree with a yelper in that this is a very historic hotel to which many important and famous people have stayed. I mean I get chills when I thought about those same people that have walked the very floors that I was stepping on. We stayed at the 4th floor of the old building. Later while taking the tour that the hotel offers, we found out we were staying just below the McArthur Suite. The entire 5th floor was occupied by he and his family. The suite can be rented but at a very high price. The suite is part of the tour (if not occupied) and we almost got to see the presidential suite but they were making repairs that day dang it. Next time. The tour is a must at this hotel. The lobby itself is pretty amazing. If you get a chance, take a walk around. You'll spot an original painting by Amorsolo. Our stay included breakfast. There's an enormous selection of international food most of which were too heavy for our morning appetites. We went with the usual breakfast items. Presentation is outstanding and food is okay, nothing really special about the taste. We went out both days for lunch and dinner. There are a lot of places nearby. Parking is free at the hotel If you have a car. But taking the taxi is recommended if you choose to leave the premises. I love the staff wearing cultural outfits. The dresses are especially something to admire and they wear different ones everyday. Everyone we encountered did their job; most were welcoming except for a few of the security personnel. Which I can understand somewhat. But they could be a little more friendly. It's not like they're guarding the Malacanang Palace. Great travels! read more
