First time experiencing Manila Sunset! I don't know if it's because my mother-in-law was super sweet, but the service was exceptional! We were given extra sauce, utensils, and vinegar for our food when asked. Located near Popeyes, Ramen, and 85C, Manila Sunset creates authentic Filipino foods from your mom's kitchen to theirs. When we arrived, we immediately ordered their crispy pastas, pancit palabok, two halo halos, and their BBQ Pork and rice entree. We sat outside enjoying each other's company, and the food did take a second to come out. Yet, everything was absolutely fresh and hot. Their crispy patas were especially crispy and hot. I enjoyed some of this bibingka while it was still fresh and warm and brought the rest with me to a friend in Virginia. Yes, it traveled with me in my carry-on. He was so excited when he received it since there are not many Filipino food spots in his area. I really enjoyed my meal that day, especially since I was very hungry. The only downside was that they were a bit slow that day and I waited about 30 minutes for my order. The lady who took my order the second time around, when i ordered a to-go and a dessert was also nice and she was the one who asked me if i wanted garlic rice because i didn't know that was an option. Food did not come up to our expectation. Given that we are from the East coast and where we live there is a dearth of Filipino restaurants, we mistakenly believe that the West coast would be the mecca for excellent Filipino cuisine. Sadly, it was not to be. Manila Sunset did not live up to the hype. First of all, a really basic staple such as garlic vinegar "sawsawan" was not available to dip and douse the different Filipino staple such as Crispy Pata. It's unheard of and is in fact a sacrilege to not have it readily a an available. Instead we were offered sweet cucumber vinegar. WHAT????? Without the garlic vinegar to offset the extremely rich pork belly, one is relegated to having a greasy fatty hunk of flavorless meat. The sauce that it did come with the dish did not pair at all of with this classic Filipino dish. Another disappointment was the Dinuguan, or known fondly as chocolate soup. Wow I have been to many Filipino restaurants and I'm shocked on how overpriced this place is. For instance this pork bbq is priced at $3 and it literally has 3pcs of pork. So you're charging $1 per pc of meat?! I mean $3 is the going rate now but most restaurants fill their skewers. This is shocking and you guys should be embarrassed to serve this. Some of us aren't fortunate enough to see a sunset In Manila but we can taste what others taste when it comes to that nostalgia feeling. I was hesitant to try this place out but luckily I have a legit fellow foodie that can vouch for this spot. I ordered some of my favorites and a couple of new items I've never tried. I started off with their dinuguan and it was exactly what I expected with all the fixings plus that spicy kick with a sour note at the end plus the chilies still swimming inside. Next was the arroz caldo which was almost perfect except it needed a little help but still good. So my favorite part of this experience was the puto bumbong. So this is a dessert that comes with purple rice that's steamed in bamboo tubes and topped with grated coconut and sugar. Oh man this little delight was my highlight! But I did try out another item that is new to the menu and that was the bibingka a la mode. Another great dessert to cap off a satisfying experience and legit! Hey! My wife and i entered this so call reataurant and the staff stared at us as if we were going to rob them or.... I wish I could say good things, but nothing has improved since 2017. I ordered their "goto" and if I compare the one at West Covina, they have abundant amount of meat with their rice, but here they had x3 slices of meat, no garlic and green onions on the top. We also ordered their pansit, and just looking at it, a jaundiced patient at a hospital would have a better color. It was pale yellowish dry noodles stuck together. They were also selling "sago at gulaman" without the sago (Boba and jello drink). Everything was unsatisfactory. Then, to top all that, stains on the toilet bowl and urinal in the restroom. In the mood to have their beef tapa plate. So we traveled to come to this location. This location is not a fancy place, but there is plenty of seating, they have a water station and notice a lot of phone orders are handled. My husband ordered the whole fried tilapia plate which came with rice and soup and my beef tapa plate which came with rice and soup as well. Order came out and smelled and looked so good. Haven't had tapa in a while and this place always had good ones. Today, I was disappointed in the order. Most of the beef was all fat and couldn't bite into the fat. I felt cheated on this order. In the past, the beef was actual thin slices of beef and only a few fat on it. I feel that they did not do their best in trimming the fat. I wouldn't even attempt to try to swallow this fat as my digestive system would not be able to process this. So disappointing. My husband said his tilapia was good. Hopefully management will correct this and try to trim the obvious "thick fat" on the meat before cooking and serving it to their customer. Not worth ordering or paying for this when you only get to chew the meat to get the juices and then have to spit it out. read more

I'm very picky on sisig and I like mine a little crispy and dry, sometimes people drown it with a lot of sauce and I don't like that version at all.
