One of the best Korean BBQ restaurants I have ever been to. I selected the A2 option, about $32 per person. It had a large selection of meats, with all of the sides, and a decent sized grill. The food is ordered through the tablets located at each table and the little happy robot delivered the food to your table. The prices for the food and drinks are very reasonable for the area. As I found out later when I went to another Korean BBQ spot, the prices and quality were below par to this spot. Manna is actually a great deal for what you get. I'm familiar with the Kearny Mesa location and was looking forward to checking out the Gaslamp one. We went here for a team lunch and it was a fun outing that was engaging, tasty and a great experience especially for those who had never had Korean BBQ. I believe Gyu-Kaku was here before so it was already set up for the table grills. It appeared to be renovated very nicely with a modern feel and quite a lot of seating. A couple of things stood out to me, contributing to the 5 star review - great selection of ban chon that was ready for us upon arrival, the good selections of meat and other side dishes, and the robot servers that were playing k-pop. That last one was a creative fun touch that really entertained the group! Ordering was easy and done on the table iPad and the service was super quick, rotation between the robots and human servers. We came for dinner on a Thursday evening around 7:30PM and waited about 10 minutes for a table. The evening crowd in the Gaslamp can be a little dodgy so just be aware of your surroundings. We went with the A2 option ($31.99/person) and thought it was great bang for your buck. Especially compared to some of the AYCE KBBQ restaurants we frequent back in the Bay Area. You order everything through an iPad and the service is attentive. The restaurant has robots that bring the meats to your table - this is the future. All the meats we ordered were very tasty. Our only critique is that we thought that the LA Galbi was too sweet for our liking. We usually marinate and grill our own galbi at home so we might be slightly biased. The grill is not your typical hot plate, but rather has vents for the fats/sauces to drip through which we prefer. We came here for dinner last Saturday night (09/30) and experienced the worst dinner fail I've ever had. That's saying a lot considering the number of bad (and good) kbbq spots I have tried in my life. My kids and I came in for dinner last Saturday and it was busy, as expected. We placed our order through the tablet on the table and patiently waited with my hungry kids. Nothing came out. They said there was an issue with their WIFI and they didn't get our original orders, so we ordered a few things from the server. They eventually brought out 3 small plates of the meat that we ordered and we proceeded to order more food through the tablet. NOTHING ELSE CAME OUT. They never told us that the tablet was not working, and if it wasn't, they never came by our table to take any additional orders. They literally left us sitting there for nearly an hour, thinking that a lot more food was coming out. After waiting forever and after both my kids started falling asleep, we let them know that nothing had come out and they asked us what specifically didn't come out. How about everything?! So in short, we spent well over $100 for literally 3 small plates of food with a total of 4 pieces of meat. And by the time they noticed and offered to bring us what we ordered, we did not have time to sit around with young kids for another hour, just to receive what we ordered a long time ago. Needless to say, my wife was pissed. I understand that this place gets busy as it's smack in the middle of Gaslamp and seems to be a popular spot. But if your tablet is not working, you need to let the customer know right away and have a server take orders frequently to make it right. The A2 option was $30 and did not include the premium cuts but we decided on this option because it had galbi so I figured that was good enough. We were seated immediately, service was great, they explained everything and ordering was all done via touch pad. What was cool was they have a robot that delivers some of your orders. It has a song and allows the servers to get to other tables. They didn't have a hood over each table like your traditional kbbq place but it was NOT smoky and well ventilated as they took over a previous Japanese bbq place. I think it sucks it down around the grill as it looks like there's a vent around the sides. I liked the sides I like mixing the green onion salad and the steamed egg. The pork belly and beef belly were very meaty and delicious. The galbi had a nice marinade and was very tasty. I wish I just got more of this instead of just trying all of the other stuff. This location of Manna (Heaven) BBQ is the newest branch of the local chain having replaced a Japanese BBQ restaurant that had been on this Gaslamp Quarter corner for several years. It's an all-you-can-eat concept with two menus offered, A1 ($35.99) or A2 ($29.99). The difference was that the premium menu contained an additional dozen choices including items like beef tongue, pork jowl, shrimp, squid, etc. We came for dinner on a weekend and selected the A2 menu. The place was a little over half full which was low compared to the Convoy District because that spot almost always has a waitlist. I noticed that the dining area was ventilated quite well as it didn't have fans or ducts coming down from the ceiling to draw away the smoke and odors from the grills. A tablet was available at each table so each party could self order items and then they would be delivered from the kitchen. A few of the selections were provided from a robotic server that was programmed to arrive tableside. You could remove the dish from its holding area before sending the robot back to the kitchen. A set of banchan was arranged at the table before we sat down. It included a green salad, japchae (glass noodles), bean sprouts, fish tofu, potato salad, kimchi, and pickled vegetables. We requested white rice, mild ramen, rice paper, steamed egg, and green onion salad as additional sides before choosing our meats which were the following... * Spicy Beef Belly * Galbi (beef short ribs) * Hawaiian Pork Belly * Spicy Bulgogi (thinly sliced beef) * Spicy Chadol (beef brisket) * Jumooluk (short cut steak) My favorites were the Galbi and Hawaiian Pork Belly because each one had a decent amount of fat included in the cut which made the meat more flavorful when it was grilled. This is the perfect spot for what I look for in a kbbq spot. Many of the famous kbbq spots in LA focus on super high quality meat with no marinade. They say that people tend to marinade low quality meat. But in my mind, if I wanted just pure meat, I'd go to a butcher shop. This place does have some non-marinated meat, but many more marinated options compared to other kbbq spots. The items that were exclusive to the premium menu were not worth it imo.
