I really wish I could give a better review because the food itself was genuinely really good. The meats were flavorful, the sides had a great selection, and we really enjoyed what we ate. Unfortunately, the service impacted the experience enough that I'm not sure I'd come back. The restaurant was busy when we arrived, but our experience started off strong with an older woman who got us seated, brought water, and helped with our sides. My partner and I ordered chadol and spicy beef belly, along with dumplings, veggie rolls, rice, and rice paper. Everything was flavorful and enjoyable. Things changed once Adrian began assisting us. There was some confusion with our meat order, and when we brought it up, the interaction felt a little dismissive rather than helpful. We brushed it off as a possible miscommunication, but afterward we went about 20 minutes without being checked on. We were still missing meat from our original order, a fork we requested never came, and we also needed water and a grill change. Eventually, the woman who initially helped us came back and took care of everything. I completely understand how difficult peak hours can be, especially if someone is stepping into a role they don't normally work (towards the end of my visit I requested the servers name to provide feedback and it seems that Adrian may have been a busser who stepped into a server role to support with tables during their rush). Still, better communication and support would have made a huge difference. ​We came to this spot for dinner on our last day of Comic-Con since it's conveniently located in the Gaslamp District, close to the convention center. The wait was around two hours, but I think most restaurants in the area were just as busy due to the convention weekend. We opted for the Premium menu, which was $37.99 per person. ​From the Premium menu, we ordered the beef tongue, deungshim steak, nuk gan sal (beef rib finger), goutsal (short rib filet), and pork jowl. All the meats were decent, though the steak was a bit weird to eat at a Korean BBQ spot. It wasn't bad per se, but it was a thick piece of unmarinated steak that just felt out of place. ​We also ordered chadol (beef brisket), small intestine, spicy pork belly, and several plates of LA yangnyum galbi. The spicy pork belly wasn't actually marinated; it just came out with sauce poured over it, but it ended up tasting fine. The highlight of the meal for me was the galbi, which was marinated well and quite tasty. ​They also offer self-serve ice cream, but the setup was awkward. The tubs were placed at the bottom of a deep freezer, meaning you really had to reach in and dig for a scoop. The scoopers were left sitting in muddy, milky water, which made everything sticky and a bit gross. You could even see abandoned scoops of ice cream scattered around the inside of the freezer that never quite made it to a bowl. I wasn't a fan of this self-serve setup. It was just too difficult to get a clean scoop. ​Overall, this spot was decent. Updated Review: I haven't been here in a minute, but since my last visit things have changed dramatically. For starters they have robots delivering your food. Plus they changed human ordering to ordering through an iPad. And while this is somewhat convenient, I still prefer human interaction at restaurants. Though you do have to let someone know which menu you're going to be ordering from so the correct items display on the iPad. On a side note; they preload your table with banchan which seems kind of weird to me. At first glance I thought our table was dirty with someone's leftovers. Efficiency I guess. I believe Gyu-Kaku was here before so it was already set up for the table grills. It appeared to be renovated very nicely with a modern feel and quite a lot of seating. A couple of things stood out to me, contributing to the 5 star review - great selection of ban chon that was ready for us upon arrival, the good selections of meat and other side dishes, and the robot servers that were playing k-pop. Be sure not to fill up on the sides though, that can easily happen. The staff will get agitated (you can see it) if you keep flaming up your grill. We seen plenty of lime showers on the grill followed by some grill time-out sessions. It's understandable but many customers have never been to these type of setups and you will see a lot of that here. I do recommend the staff give some tips, etc on how to minimize those flare ups. Parking is what you would expect from the gaslamp. During convention season, this place can have wait times of up to 45 minutes so prepare ahead. My sister and I were in San Diego for the week and came across this AYCE KBBQ restaurant while wandering through the Gaslamp. We came for dinner on a Thursday evening around 7:30PM and waited about 10 minutes for a table. The evening crowd in the Gaslamp can be a little dodgy so just be aware of your surroundings. We went with the A2 option ($31.99/person) and thought it was great bang for your buck. Especially compared to some of the AYCE KBBQ restaurants we frequent back in the Bay Area. You order everything through an iPad and the service is attentive. The restaurant has robots that bring the meats to your table - this is the future. All the meats we ordered were very tasty. Our only critique is that we thought that the LA Galbi was too sweet for our liking. We usually marinate and grill our own galbi at home so we might be slightly biased. The grill is not your typical hot plate, but rather has vents for the fats/sauces to drip through which we prefer. We came here for dinner last Saturday night (09/30) and experienced the worst dinner fail I've ever had. That's saying a lot considering the number of bad (and good) kbbq spots I have tried in my life. My kids and I came in for dinner last Saturday and it was busy, as expected. They eventually brought out 3 small plates of the meat that we ordered and we proceeded to order more food through the tablet. NOTHING ELSE CAME OUT. They never told us that the tablet was not working, and if it wasn't, they never came by our table to take any additional orders. They literally left us sitting there for nearly an hour, thinking that a lot more food was coming out. After waiting forever and after both my kids started falling asleep, we let them know that nothing had come out and they asked us what specifically didn't come out. How about everything?! So in short, we spent well over $100 for literally 3 small plates of food with a total of 4 pieces of meat. And by the time they noticed and offered to bring us what we ordered, we did not have time to sit around with young kids for another hour, just to receive what we ordered a long time ago. Needless to say, my wife was pissed. I understand that this place gets busy as it's smack in the middle of Gaslamp and seems to be a popular spot. But if your tablet is not working, you need to let the customer know right away and have a server take orders frequently to make it right. It was pretty insulting that they would even charge us for the paltry amount of food that was served. The A2 option was $30 and did not include the premium cuts but we decided on this option because it had galbi so I figured that was good enough. It has a song and allows the servers to get to other tables. They didn't have a hood over each table like your traditional kbbq place but it was NOT smoky and well ventilated as they took over a previous Japanese bbq place. I think it sucks it down around the grill as it looks like there's a vent around the sides. I liked the sides I like mixing the green onion salad and the steamed egg. The pork belly and beef belly were very meaty and delicious. The galbi had a nice marinade and was very tasty. I wish I just got more of this instead of just trying all of the other stuff. Can't say enough incredible things about Manna Heaven! We were in town for a concert at the Shell and were looking for something special that we can't get near where we live.
