Atleast 5-6 open tables and waitlist is only 4 groups
    Vatsal S.

UPDATE: the staff here is atrocious. Roy the manager was extremely rude and unhelpful. They wouldn't update the waitlist, they wouldn't sit us when there were 5-6 open tables and kept arguing with us. We were already on the waitlist. The staff here didn't want to work at all and management and owners should be aware of this. We are boycotting this location and will be telling all our friends the same because of how poorly we were treated despite being regulars here. We had to leave hungry just the way we came in because the servers refused to take any people on the waitlist. Older review: Amazing food! We got the spicy curry and spicy tofu ramen with regular noodles and a side of slow cooked egg and extra spicy on both. I don't think the extra spicy did anything but add on $4 to our order tbh. Everything was delicious and generous in portions. Tofu was marinated and cooked perfectly for ramen as well. We were very full when leaving. Service was a bit slow and confusing. Place was almost full on a random weekday night so come early. Typical noisy and college crowd inside. We'll be back but skip the spicy $4 surcharge next time.

Haven't been to Nishiki since 2021 and it's much different, we were sat right away and pleasantly greeted at the door. Well lit and seats are nice and clean. Music is played but it's not loud so you can have conversations. Definitely could hear other people chat but we came here to eat so it's all good. We were served rather quickly. The menu was the same with amazing ramen and side selections, rather simple but delicious. They also had an additional Japanese Curry menu which my daughter was excited about. Would definitely try and eat here more often but it definitely love the ramen noodles and the broth (tonkatsu) is savory.

Ring of Chashu but made it spicy and added an egg
    Jennifer S.

I usually order my ramen spicy with extra meat, no questions asked. But the ring of chashu got me this time So I did that, made it spicy, and added an egg. My boyfriend got the regular tonkotsu (#2 I think?) and added an egg too. The broth and overall flavor were on point...rich, comforting, and legit. The chashu was tender and that full ring presentation was worth it. It wasn't as spicy as I personally like, but I added the $2 house sauce and fixed that real quick. Super solid spot. Definitely coming back whenever we're in SD.

Customer service was really good. It was pretty empty as I went on a Monday around 5pm. It was pretty quiet but they played some music in the background. I ordered the Akuma ramen, kimichi, and the chicken karaage. The ramen was phenomenal and well kimchi is kimchi lol. The chicken was pretty decent. Everything was fresh and made to order.

    GGG ramen
    Ariel O.

The GGG ramen was genuinely to die for. Rich flavorful broth perfectly cooked noodles and toppings that actually felt intentional and well balanced. You can tell care goes into the food and it absolutely shows in the taste. That said it is a bit overpriced. Two bowls of ramen and a Diet Coke came out to around $60 with an automatic 15 percent gratuity which felt steep for a casual ramen spot. Overall the food itself is excellent and definitely worth trying if you are craving high quality ramen just be prepared for higher prices than expected

We used to love coming to Nishiki, but over time we drifted away. Today we decided to give it another try since ramen sounded perfect for the cold weather, but unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. As soon as we walked in, there was a strong smell of urine, which was really unpleasant. The staff saw us but didn't greet or acknowledge us for about five minutes. Even though it seemed a bit busy, there was no sense of urgency or attentiveness. We ordered our usual Nishiki ramen, which used to come out piping hot, but this time it was just warm. By the time we got halfway through the bowl, it was already room temperature. The homemade hot sauce also seemed off. It used to turn the broth a nice reddish color and give it a good kick, but this time it barely changed the color and had almost no spice at all. We also ordered kimchi, but it never came out. After reminding the server, he apologized and removed it from the bill, which I appreciated. When it came time to pay, I asked about using my $5 birthday reward. The server explained that it would prompt for my phone number at checkout, so I followed his instructions. After paying, I asked if it was applied, but he said it would only work for my next visit. I clarified that I was already a rewards member, and he stated there would be a QR code to scan to apply the discount, but by then it was too late since we had already paid. Overall, the service and food quality just weren't what they used to be. It's disappointing because Nishiki used to be one of our favorite ramen spots.

What we ordered | takiyaki | ring of Chau Taste | ramen and takoyaki were solid. Taste was similar to their other chains in San Diego. As a bit disappointed that the takoyaki was just barely warm. Broth could have been a bit warmer too. Service | servers were nice and quick Parking | plaza Notes | no outdoor seating

It was a sprinkly night and we were in downtown. Our daughter was craving ramen. Her favorite spot for ramen in SD is Nishiki Ramen. We usually dine at the Kearny Mesa location. We were greeted right when we walked in and seated within a minute. We ordered our usual for apps: salted edemame, and chicken karaage. Then #2, 6 and 8 with added soft eggs. It hit the spot. However, for me the broth from the Kearny location was much better. But good nonetheless.

    Vegan Soy Karaage Delight Ramen
    Melanie G.

Went on a Saturday evening a little after 5 and it wasn't busy, we were able to be seated right away! More of a casual ramen place for sure. The staff weren't the most friendly but they were still attentive! I got the vegan soy karaage delight ramen. The noodles were cooked well, the broth was flavorful and it was a good portion size! The best part was definitely the soy karaage. I'd guess it's made from gluten. They have 8 pieces and it was a nice savory protein option. It helps to let it sit in the broth for a little so it can soften because it is chewier due to it most likely being made from gluten. Originally, they got mine and my boyfriend's orders incorrect. So we did send it back and the "new" order came out quickly, but I did feel they just replaced the tofu with the soy karaage because there was some tofu left in the bowl. They did apologize too.

Over cooked and inedible part of The Big Kakuni Ramen
    Julian T.

I would consider us pretty regular customers and typically everything about our visits were great until more recently. We came in August and I ordered the Big Kakuni Ramen and they served me this incredibly overcooked, tough piece of meat. The server seemed to know because she would avoid just our table when asking if everything was okay. Today we came looking for them to redeem themselves. The food tasted different and lo and behold, a fly in my wife's bowl of ramen. Used to love Nishiki, hope they can fix their quality issues.

Are ramen really $24 now? That's doubled from 2 years ago. 😮

I'm not really sure the prices you see on their Yelp are accurate. I just checked their actual website and the prices are around 15-17 for most of their ramen. Hope this helps (:

$$$ is $20 a high price point for base ramen?

No, the base ramen price starts at $13.95.

Are there any alternative noodle options? I couldn't quite find anything online or through pictures

they have varieties of noodles; thin, thick, soft, hard, gluten, vegan and regular noodles.

I had decided tentatively to get pizza, but my cousin told me when I picked him up that he was on a healthy food kick. Plus, he wanted to go to a "Michelin star place" and this was the only Michelin star place I could think of... and ramen noodles are pretty healthy so what the heck? I had been to the Mira Mesa location before so I knew what to expect here. My cousin was new so he was trying to figure out what to order. Unlike last time at the Mira Mesa location, I knew not to order the extra noodles and went for the tonkotsu ajitama, which does seem like the safe option. I added corn and seaweed into my bowl, which I think helped add to the nice umami flavor. But even without the extra noodles, I still couldn't finish the whole bowl of ramen. To be fair, I did have breakfast a couple of hours before. Still, it was filling. And I had leftovers for later. My cousin ordered the Tonkotsu bowl only, and he said it was really good. Coming from a pretty picky eater like himself, that's a compliment.

A normal meal. A casual San Diego ramen situation. Incorrect. What actually happened was that my child experienced a culinary event so powerful it rearranged her internal belief system. She took one bite and immediately declared it her "favorite meal ever" and "the best sushi on earth," which is impressive because those are two separate categories of food, but honestly I respect the conviction. At that moment, she became a tiny ramen prophet. A noodle evangelist. A sushi sommelier of chaos. I was no longer her father. I was merely the adult with a wallet and transportation. The ramen was fantastic. The sushi was fresh. The whole place had that magical "we actually care about what we are doing" energy, which is increasingly rare in a world held together by parking apps and spiritual fatigue. Then, as if the first visit had not already altered the timeline, my daughter made me go back the next day. Not requested. Not suggested. Made. There was no negotiation. She had tasted the mountain and demanded we return to the temple. So we did. And it was still excellent. BESHOCK is now officially part of our family lore. Somewhere between "remember that time we saw the ocean" and "remember when your daughter discovered ramen and briefly became a food critic possessed by a joyful sea dragon." Highly recommend. Bring your children only if you are emotionally prepared for them to ask to come back immediately.

They do sake right! Shot glass situated in a wooden box. You then over pour the glass and let it settle in the wood. I haven't had it served this way since I had it at a hole in the wall sale joint in Japan. After finishing the glass, pour the overflow into the glass and it may have picked up a little extra richness and smoothness from the wood. My mentor for Japan had a box stored at "his place" where they poured him for 40 years. Modest roll menu, which is just fine. The salmon roll was soooooo fresh, firm tender flesh, balanced with lemon peels and very thinly sliced mango. I can't describe how perfectly balanced it was. I asked the bartender and a couple regulars who were also sitting at the bar what their favorites were. All said the Vegan ramen. They were right. Full flavor bomb in the broth, perfect noodles (not mushy). They will add in meat if you want more protein, but the flavor was all there. Tried two different types of Sake on the different visits. Seriously, I would go out of my way for this place. If you're looking at this review, stop. Just go. I'm dreaming about going back right now.
