Manny was quick to respond but never mentioned that they charge 80 dollars an hour and a minimum of 2 hours. So after a quick 15 minute inspection he charged us 160 dollars suggesting us to replace the entire unit. We got another inspection done with someone who was upfront about the inspection costs, actually repaired the unit and didnt think we had to replace everything. So my AC decided to stop working a couple weeks ago and lucky for me, the whole unit needed to be replaced. What I didn't know was when you replace the AC you replace the heater too. So yeah, that was a nice surprise. I called A LOT of AC guys to come take a look to make absolute sure there was no work around. The prices ranged from around ~$7k up to ~$10k. Not really sure why the difference but whatever. All the guys I had come out were saying the same thing too which was good. They had a lot of appts given the summer time and equipment may be an issue to get due to COVID. Manny, I thought, was fairly priced. Everything happened so quick too. I should also mention this was 4th of July weekend. So I agreed on Friday the 3rd and scheduled for the following Wednesday to install. Tuesday I get a call and Manny tells me they had a cancellation so I was able to get everything installed and up and running a day early. They worked quick and everything was clean. We cannot speak to the quality of service itself, but we decided not to go with this company because they would be charging $160 just to diagnose the problem. Their rate is $80/hour with a 2-hour minimum regardless of what the job actually requires. This applies to simple diagnosis of a problem and providing an estimate. This approach to service does not allow consumers to choose the best company based on competitive assessment of multiple companies. To do so would require paying multiple potential companies just to do a diagnosis and estimate. This is anti-competitive behavior, which I will be reporting to the CA Attorney General's department of Consumer Complaints. I urge other residential customers to do the same when service providers practice in ways that inhibit consumer choice. It may be reasonable to charge for travel and the small amount of time it takes to diagnose an issue (though there's a strong argument that this is a cost of doing business that should be built into fees). But the charges here and among similar companies are ridiculous. It is so important that we use our power as consumers to stop anti-competitive practices such as this. read more
