Everything could improve. Came as a family of 5. The tacos had zero seasoning on the meat and it was just a cold taco on a plate. Same for the rice. Zero flavor. I had the nachos gigante and it was more like a canned nacho cheese sauce soup thrown on chips. Not good at all. Highly disappointed in the over priced bland boring food. The server seemed rushed. It's been a while since I've been here but decided to go for dinner. I got the Verde burrito with white cheese. It was a good size and was full of meat. You got a choice of rice or beans. I got the rice, which was good but very bland. The chips were thicker than what I remember in the past, but the salsa was still very good. The mild is very tomato tasting and fresh and the hot is a perfect blend of spice. Draft beers were expensive at 6:50 but overall, the meal was good. read more

It was going along pretty well with a good server and decent food...until it wasn't. The Three Sauces Enchiladas had very little sauce on them, and just dry meat wrapped up in a tortilla doesn't taste great. I asked our server if I could get a little extra cheese sauce. She asked if I'd be OK with with a slight up charge. I agreed because usually that means about $1-$2 extra. But when we got our bill, a "slight up charge" for a little sauce was $6! I thought there must've been a mistake, as their idea of "slight up charge" became the price of a whole other enchilada with sauce! Server said "Well, that was a half order of sauce." I reminded her I hadn't asked for a half order of sauce, and that it might be wise to be clear with patrons about what a "small up charge" means. She said she couldn't help me, and sent a very unpleasant and irritated manager (or owner?) to the table. I explained the situation and she was adamant that she wouldn't do anything about it because I got a half order. I again said I hadn't asked for a half order; I asked for a little extra for my 3 dry enchiladas. She continued to be argumentative, and wasn't going to do anything for me. I said "I don't think you'll like the review I'm going to post on YELP" as she was walking away. Then she turned back and angrily adjusted the price. I hadn't been to Manny's in probably 25 years. When she took my food back, she rolled her eyes and huffed, making it clear she was frustrated instead of trying to fix the issue. Other members of my party also received incorrect items that weren't what they ordered. Several cups were mixed up within our group, causing people to accidentally drink from someone else's cup, which was extremely unhygienic. When our food was brought out, the plates were practically thrown at us. My nachos were soggy, filled with water, and honestly disgusting. Nothing was seasoned, and the salsa tasted more like marinara sauce than actual salsa. The food had absolutely no flavor and felt extremely low quality. I probably should've known it was going to be bad when I saw how empty the restaurant was. To make things worse, some people in my party experienced unexpected charges on their bills. I grabbed a drink at the bar while I waited for the rest of my friends to meet up. They will not sit you without your full party, as is expected around the area. The bartender was nice. The Manny's marg was strong and delicious. Once we were sat we snacked on the salsa and chips. The house salsa was well seasoned but very mild. I was disappointed until I realized there were two different types! The spicy was peppery and perfect. The menu I had smelled of mildew but it was clean. I got the birria quesadilla. I have never had anything tastier in my life. It was cheesy and the meat was so tender and perfectly seasoned. Loved it! The food and drinks were delicious but a bit pricey. read more

Went to Mannys the other day with some friends and it was good per usual! It's always busy so I'm surprised our wait time wasn't that long. I don't suggest going between 7-9pm because it's BUSY. Especially on the weekends but we came on a weekday so it wasn't terrible and every one was chill. They always give chips and salsa to start and I have to catch myself that I don't get full off that because the salsa is good! I think they make it in house and you can tell! I got the burrito frito which is a fried burrito with melted cheese on top. I was skeptical but my friend told me it was good and he was right! The cheese made the tortilla softer after being fried and it was well worth the stomach ache from eating dairy lol I also got a strawberry margarita which will sneak up on you if you're not careful lol read more

A group of eight of us were out late the other night and stopped in Manny's to get a bite. It was an hour before the posted closing time. We requested to set together, and the manager was extremely rude and refused instead putting us in two tables of 4. She said the other areas that had larger tables or tables we could put together were closed. We totally understand wanting to get out on time, but restaurants typically lock doors at their posted closing time and patrons typically continue to dine. Not to mention, this was a weekend night, when guests usually dine later. The waitress was very sweet and apologetic, but she was embarrassed and didn't know what to say. We felt bad for her. We assume they had already sent employees home and closed up as our food took some time. Although, my dinner was cold and had very little taste. The strawberry margarita was very good though. We haven't been here in years largely because we lived out of state but just hadn't made it down here but once. Parking is always hard and a deterrent for us. Tonight we got lucky and even on a First Friday here in the Crossroads and a beautiful night. Got a front row spot right across the street in the lil dedicated lot. I had Chicken Enchiladas which were best in class, a rich mole' flavored enchilada sauce with fresh moist chicken. Loved them! Husband had a taco, pork burrito with pinto beans. Very much enjoyed his meal as well. Waitress was very friendly and helpful, we were cold with the fan above us on and she had it turned off for us. Which was nice. We will go back because my meal will be cravable (is that a word?). Pretty quick turnaround too so we were able to get to the Royals game in time which was a bonus. read more

I came to Manny's on a Tuesday night before 6. They seemed a little short staffed - the restaurant didn't seem very full, but I was told there weren't any tables and that there was only bar seating. I was quickly served some chips and dip. I ordered a taco "sin carne" with veggies, but decided to add chicken. The taco they brought out was tasty, but huge, and impossible to pick up. I had to deconstruct it with my fork, which was a bit of an awkward way to eat it, but the grilled veggies were flavorful. The restaurant itself was kind of dark, and I didn't get a good view of the main dining room since I was seated at the bar. Came on a hunt with a taco aficionado friend looking for one dish, and found it with satisfaction. I'm talking about "the traditional Kansas City Taco," here called "Mucho Tacos." Hold on, gringo, what's that you say? Story goes like this: in the 1950s Mexican and Italian laborers were aplenty in the city. Out of those years of toiling side by side, friendships, common meals, the need to make the best with what is available came a deep fried taco of beef or chicken (possibly mashed potatoes, just a guess) laced with Romaine lettuce, maybe a bit of cheese, maybe some tomato, and at the end sprinkled heavily with Parmesan cheese. No, silly, not Parmigiano Reggiano you pay an arm and leg for made in only one small area in Italy (yet is a billion dollar industry of fake wheels of it they say), but something as best as they were making in Kansas City in the 1950s. These tacos flourished in the city, long, long before the current street taco scene was ever heard of. Done right, they are a thing of beauty, and Manny's has been doing them since opening in (I think) the early 1980s. When I started my new quest to visit all of the places in town still doing them, I was mystified until biting into my first at Margarita's down the street a mile or two. "Oh yea, I remember these now," from early times when I'd just moved to KC in the late 70s. Maybe half dozen joints still doing them in the city, yet at one time this style was quite common, and they are fine. I'd rate Manny's close to as good as Margaritas but missed the juicy tomatoes which add to all that greasy goodness that'll have you hating yourself a few hours after dining. But what's wrong with that once in awhile? The sauces here though, superior, and three of them come with a basket of chips. Don't get the 3 star overall rating, and the wallet toting public does not agree with Yelp. Came on a Tuesday and although this is a massive restaurant, the place was hopping. Oh, and the service here is the bomb. The ladies waiting tables are on top of it. And as far as this "is it authentic" in reviews. Who cares, and do the people spouting it really know? Want authentic? Call up your mother and have her make you dinner or fly to Mexico. I think much of this is pretend expertise. All I care: Is the food good, did I enjoy it, was it priced right? Tad high, my opinion, $18 for four tacos and a few beans. Ouch. But this isn't a street taco, and we enjoyed lunch immensely. Kudos, Manny's, for keeping these on the bill after all these years. It's all I'd ever want if I came back. So I dare you, reader: come here, get four of these tacos and finish them. Oh yea, you'll remember it. P.S. parking in this area of town can be hell. Lots of folks during the day when we came and found ourselves circling blocks for 10 minutes before finding a single spot. My boyfriend and I went here a few times for dinner. Once we went with a large group from his work and once on a date together. Let's start off with drinks. I will say that I'm not a big margarita person because I don't like the sweetness and I'm not the biggest tequila fan. However, the Cucumber Jalapeño Margarita was fantastic. It was very refreshing and not too spicy. I was very impressed, I had two. My boyfriend had the Mango Margarita and the Strawberry Margarita and both were very good. We preferred the strawberry over the mango. Now let's talk meals. From the two different times we have been, we have tried a few different menu items. My boyfriend got the Frido Burrito and seemed to enjoy it a lot. He said he would give it 5 stars. He has also gotten the Enchilada Burrito. He enjoyed it but did not like it as much as the Frido Burrito. I got the Fajitas and actually asked if I could get a combination of steak, shrimp and chicken. They always do it for me and they give you A LOT of meat. I usually have this for two meals. The chicken is phenomenal. The steak is always a little over cooked in my opinion which is not surprising on fajitas. I love fajitas and I was not disappointed with these. I will say they are quite expensive though. Overall, experience was great. They are very fast and attentive at Mannys which is greatly appreciated. We will be going back. read more

We are in town for the AP essay reading and we were recommended this spot by our driver. The parking lot is small, and the neighborhood is a little sketchy, but we braved the fear & tried it out. It was not busy, and we were seated immediately. The waitress was very nice and had some recommendations. We got queso with ground beef, carnitas tacos and chicken crunchy tacos. The salsa was decent - not too spicy & the chips were fresh and salty. Carnitas we're ok, chicken tacos were ok. The rice was yummy. Drinks were a little light on the tequila, but not bad. Overall, not sure we got the bang for the buck, but it didn't make me sick like most of the food we've had this week, so that's a win! read more

They have a Happy Hour listed on their website which seems pretty cool. You get there to review the HH menu and enjoy it IN the minuscule bar. But then the bill comes with NEW higher prices. WTF? Food is good. However, if you get an email from Manny's Restaurant wishing you a happy birthday and offering you a free birthday meal (as I have received for many years from them) don't go for it. It's basically a bait and switch. They will not honor their email. Instead, they give you 10% off your meal. When I showed the email to the waitress, she told me she would have to get a manager. The manager told me they stopped the free birthday meal in January but they would give me 10% off my meal. I told her I had received the email offer on November 1, 2025 and it says it's good for 30 days. She told me she would call the owner. The manager came back to the table and told me they would not honor the email but I would get 10% off my meal and my burrito was on special today too. I told them I did not need them to bother with 10% off my meal, but they deducted the $1.20 from the bill. This process was embarrassing to me and my family. And Manny's should be embarrassed too. I imagine they use a third party for the promotional emails and this may have been a mistake that was out of their control but they should honor their mistakes. I told their staff they should post a sign on the door stating they do not honor free birthday meal promotions. The whole process put a damper on my birthday celebration with my family. Yes just three stars, but don't let that deter you. This is a family style restaurant that is worth a visit. Nearly every walk of life is here on a Tuesday. The service is fast, but with typical midwestern friendliness. This is not a traditional Mexican restaurant. It would fall more on the Tex Mex category. We ordered the deep fried taco, a KC tradition from articles I have read. A crunchy taco is filled with beef fried, then opened, stuffed with lettuce, a small dollop of ketchup and a generous sprinkling of Parmesan cheese. Sounds unusual to an out of towner but normal for these parts. They are good sober, I can only imagine how great they would be at the end of an evening of drinking. Came to Manny's for the first time with a few coworkers on a Friday for lunch. First thing I noticed is that their menu seems to be a little overpriced in my opinion. Upon sitting down, I had asked our waitress for my own salsa and she seemed like I just asked for a million bucks. Ever since Covid, I feel like this should just be a given especially during flu and cold season. I ended up ordering the pick two. I ordered the tamale and a beef. Tamale was dry and it would have been nice to have a side of some type of sauce to go over it. The waitress also never offered to fill our salsa bowls or chips. It's been a moment since I've been to Manny's. An old school Kansas City Mexican restaurant. Along with Ponaks, and Margaritas Manny's is an iconic spot on SW Blvd. it was there in the crossroads before the Crossroads was called the Crossroads. A bit of wait and a the hostess was a bit of grump. Our group shared a pitcher of Manny's margaritas at the bar. Bar keep was helpful and efficient. When we were seated our server was fantastic, friendly, hard working and well informed. I ordered the Mucho Tacos. Four traditional KC tacos. Ground beef tacos corn shell tacos that are deep fried right before serving, topped with Parmesan cheese. No complaints. I like to wait a bit until the juices (yeah taco grease) seeps to the bottom of the shell. You can't go wrong with Manny's nothing fancy, just good KC Mexican food read more
