They do it first come / first served, but you might want to call ahead of time to make sure. While I was waiting, I watched the other staff servicing auto repair customers. This appears to be an old school style service station / car repair joint owned by a local family. If you own an old Toyota or Nissan, this is also a place to consider for repairs and maintenance. read more

Last of a dying breed of old-school gas stations. I've been trying to get a safety check for my car. I went to another location who shall remain nameless. We'll just call that undisclosed place "Jiffy Lube on University." That anonymous place across from Puck's Alley kept telling me to come back day after day because the inspector was out to lunch. Three months after trying, I gave up and have been a scofflaw because of the dearth of state inspectors who only keep banker's hours. Back to our review of Chevron... I was filling up my tank here and just asked if they did inspections. Owner Warren said "yes," but it would be an hour because of the other cars waiting to be inspected. I had notes to do for my work and was able to go across the street to Starbucks while they inspected my car. I got some work done and Warren called me my inspection was pau. Over the years I have been coming to this station and they have always been thorough and fair. Very old school Japanese-local run business that you won't see in another generation. As far as the reviewer who was monku-ing about this business charging to fill up her tires with air, I have one word: INFLATION!! read more

DO NOT get your safety check from this Chevron. First: The manager is old and crabby and his customer service is terrible (the other employees are good but he is the one you will have to deal with). Second: (and more importantly) my car was towed for having an 'expired safety check' after having gotten my tags from here. HPD told me it was because this Chevron hadn't been updating their current safety checks with the state and so my safety check (although valid) appeared expired in their system. Hence the ticket/towed car. HPD told me the Chevron could lose their license to do safety inspections because of this...so I called the Chevron as a courtesy to make sure that they start updating their stuff and don't lose their license....nothing but attitude towards me so I just hung up. Aside from being a gas station, the Manoa Chevron is also a full service service station where you can get your oil changed, get your safety check, get your tires rotated or any other repairs you need. All mechanics are ASE certified. Gas stations that also function as full service stations sometimes get a bad wrap as being overpriced or inefficient as compared to other garages that focus solely on auto repair. Don't let that fool you as Manoa Chevron runs a GREAT operation. We've relied on Manoa Chevron to keep our cars in tip top shape for almost 10 years now since we lived in the area. We moved from Manoa to elsewhere in town several years ago but continue to turn to the folks at Manoa Chevron for our maintenance and repair needs based on the great value and service we receive from them (and we've used other garages/service stations before). Here are some of thee things we like about their service: 1. Fast turnaround: they're usually able to diagnose and make a recommendation for fixing within a days time which is impressive given the large volumes of cars they service. If they need to order a part it usually arrives within a days time so you get your car back in two days at the most if it's a bad problem 2. Great price. They're always able and go beyond to find the best deals on parts. Labor charges are reasonable. 3. Outstanding service! The staff was nice enough on a few occasions to drop us off at work or home after we took our car in for service (since we were carless) and pick us up when our vehicle as ready. The guys are really efficient and trustworthy. I had to drive with a dragging splash shield a few times after going through puddles in Manoa (hate that Oahu+East Manoa junction during heavy rain, it gets flooded every time), but luckily I had the service station nearby. Once they were even able to put the splash shield back as it was not damaged. Last time they charged less than $20 and it only took them 5-10 minutes. read more

I went in today for an oil change and was helped by really friendly staff at the Manoa Chevron. When I asked how long it would take, the lady at the inside counter told me it probably wasn't a great day for oil changes since there was only one mechanic doing oil changes that day but that she would check for me. Another one of the mechanics popped into the office and volunteered to change my car's oil for me himself if I was willing to wait an hour and a half (which was fine considering there were a few people in front of my car). He also offered the same to the elderly man who was in front of me in the line. True to their word, they called me within the hour and a half to let me know that my car was ready. I was shocked when I got my bill because they had changed the oil, oil filters, checked hoses, checked various other fluids in my car, checked and refilled tire pressure, and checked tire treads for only $53. I was really happy with the service that I received from them and will definitely see them again :) read more

Had my safety check done here for out of state car registration. They were pleasant, quick, and identified a taillight issue that needed correction. Went here for a safety check around lunch time. They did the check in under 10 minutes. More importantly, they did it promptly even on lunch break!! I felt bad for coming at that time. I came in on a Friday afternoon to get a safety check and an oil change, after being ignored for fifteen minutes I was finally acknowledged by a very rude man who told me it will be 55 minutes to even be seen. After wasting an hour I came back and he refused to accept my updated insurance cards and was very rude and to me to leave. I have not used either service but a lot of people get their safety checks here as the lot is almost always loaded. I just put gas here. There are cheaper gas stations around but I've always preferred Chevron with their techron gas additive. As long as you pay by credit card, you can get gas at an time even when the station is closed & there is no one manning the booth. read more

Just needed air in one tire. We asked a gentleman that worked there if he could help us since the one available for everyone to use was broken. All he basically said was "yeah that one is broken and we only have one inside." Then walked away, didn't really say whether he could help or not, and just continued whatever he was doing as we stood there waiting for a response. It was extremely rude. Very unhappy with the service/attitude of the people working here. They seemed to enjoy watching me become frustrated as they claimed my airbag light was on/malfunctioning during their check and told me they could not pass me. They refused to recheck the dash board when I told them the airbag light is NOT on and I shut off the car and restarted it 3 times to verify. Safety checks here are a joke. Come in and leave your car for 3 hours. They need to make an appointment system. If a customer does not show up at the appointment time then take a walk in. I began to feel the service at the Chevron Hawaii in Manoa getting crotchety, after going to them for over a decade to get safety checks on two cars. I won't go into details, but the last time I went to this Chevron, there were some issues, and they just blew me off like they didn't care. At least I didn't get charged for a failed safety inspection, but it was awful to be left hanging at the same time. Warren Higa was the only person who stood out, but he may be completely retired by now. This very last experience was a signal for a time to change, so I found a nice place located to where I live now. If you don't have to deal with the older grumpy lady in the booth then I think you'll be okay. I used to "filler up" every week and a half for about 3 years, however, once after I just spent $50 on gas and then went to fill up my tires at the self serve area but needed a tire gauge to check the weight of my tires. Filling up gas here is no problem at all. The lady in the cashier booth is pretty nice and friendly. The prices are OK compared to other gas stations. If you need an oil change done or any work done on your car you better call ahead because this place can be real busy. You would be better off bringing your car some where else. It is true what the other Yelp reviews say about the grump staff. They have zero customer service and treat you with no respect. Around 2003-2004, my car would often times not start unless I left it off for an extended period, with it finally dying in front of O'Reilly Auto Parts on Punahou. A helpful guy there heard my story, took a quick overview, and told me it was my fuel pump. I bought a fuel pump from them since he was so helpful (knowing if he was incorrect I could just return the part unused), and called my father for a service station in the area, as he was from the area, and I was not. My father informed me of Manoa Chevron, so I had my car towed in, I informed them it may be my fuel pump, and I had a new one in the trunk. Sometime later, a man called me and informed me that it was my fuel pump, and he quoted me for the labor and parts. I reminded him that I had the new part in the trunk, and what he said next floored me. Quote. "Oh, you're not gonna let me make money off you on the part?". I am not kidding, that is a quote, verbatim. I was speechless. I managed to get past that without immediately towing my car somewhere else, and told him use the part I had and fix the car. Went to this service station for a safety check because I heard no appointment needed. The guy that took my info and key had no people skills, didn't say anything and then drives my car out. I've never had anyone drive my car off the lot before...you think he could of said something and approximately how long it will take...right?! Comes back does the brake check with the cashier, puts my sticker on and hands me the paperwork with a very mumbled thank you. I guess being friendly to customers is not needed anymore nowadays. Then on to my next stop I realize I didn't get my debit card back from the cashier. Call up and she claims she doesn't have it...ugh!
