Well now..it's probably been at least 15 years since I've been here..it has become an all-out dive bar. Like a really really divey dive bar. They took over the space that I believe was previously a hair salon, knocked down the wall, and built a huge bar. There are no longer tables there to sit at, just the bar. The area where the front counter used to be is still there and looks the same, except for the fact that it doesn't look like it's ever used..it appears to be abandoned. So why the five stars you ask? Well, they have a sandwich here that was my absolute favorite sandwich growing up. It's a very basic sandwich..it's just a chicken hoagie with cheese and mayonnaise..but for some reason the way they made it was absolutely delicious. I had been trying to recreate it for the 15 years since I moved away. And I mean, I tried to recreate it everywhere..from upscale sandwich places in big cities, to all the "fast food" sub places you could think of. Chicken, cheese, mayonnaise..so simple..yet not a single place that I tried to recreate it at ever came close. Couldn't even recreate it at home. Never thought I'd be able to enjoy it again. But I knew for a fact there was absolutely no way they still made it the same... I ordered the sandwich..the bartender asked if it was for here or to go. My mom and girlfriend gave me a look like there was no way they were staying to eat there..so I said to go. It took about 15 minutes to cook. They were getting impatient but I kept assuring them it would be worth it if it were the same. The food finally was ready so I paid and we left. And guess what? The sandwich tasted EXACTLY the same as it did all those years ago. It sent my taste buds into this crazy nostalgic whirlpool. It was the sandwich that I have craved for so long. It was too good to be true. My girlfriend tasted it and said it was pretty good. I mean, there's no way she was going to understand how great this was to me, but I think she could at least see what I was saying about it and see how it did taste different then all the countless attempted recreations over the years. So yeah, if you're in the area, stop by and try this sandwich. There's no way you'll enjoy it as much as I do..but then again, you might.
