Dropped by for lunch. Nothing else seemed to be open in the area. The food is nothing extraordinary, typical dive fare, but I thought it was good nevertheless. I keep giving this place second and third chances but today I just had a terrible experience. It was busy when I got there. Quite a few tables were open but not cleared off. One server was wrapping up with a customer right next to the front, where I was standing. He, after seeing me, walked right past me and went to the back area to check on his other tables without saying anything. I stood there for maybe five minutes before he came back and muttered "sit anywhere you want" and walked off again. I found a table and asked him "should I wait for them to wipe this off first?" when he was nearby and he said "yeah, we'll wipe it off" ??? So I stood for another five minutes or so next to the table, as there was food on the seats and no napkins to wipe it off with, before a busboy came and wiped off the table. I thanked him and sat down. There was still no silverware and no menu. I waited literally ten more minutes before the same server from before came by and said "I'll get you a menu" *after* seeing that I was watching the female server sit a party of five and hand them menus directly and ask for their drink order. Nearly twenty minutes after I'd been waiting for either of those things! I told him thank you and took the menu when he came back, and he left again without asking for a drink order. He sat another couple just then and gave them menus and told them he would be right with them. Dude!! Am I invisible?? Several more minutes went by of me questioning my entire life and appearance, and someone came by to ask for my drink order. The male server? No, it was the female server! She was ON TOP of her tables, and I don't know if she noticed I had been sitting there ignored for twenty minutes or if he told her he was too busy, but she was so nice and cheerful I felt almost guilty for being so annoyed earlier. She got my drink and took my regular order and I thought it's fine. This kind of thing happens sometimes. But the food, Manory's. The eggs were great, but the pancakes were so weird! Just plain pancakes, like I ordered. But the texture was really grainy and seemed simultaneously overcooked on the outside and undercooked on the inside. It was crispy-gooey-grainy, almost like a cornbread consistency? And Very Rectangular. I managed to wolf them down because I'd ordered them. But pancakes, Manory's?? How did you do that?? Your pancakes have always been good when I've come before! How did you do that to pancakes??? That wasn't even the worst part though, it was fine. My belly was full. My new server gave me the check in a timely manner (seriously, she was great!) and let me know if I was paying cash to go to the front. Well. I did that. There was a huge group of people at the front for I don't know what, maybe a to go order? Things were moved around recently and the register is next to the milkshake bar. So I stood at the milkshake bar next to this huge throng of people. I tried making eye contact with milkshake dude for ten minutes. Just standing there. Back to being invisible I guess, I tried waving my hands and getting eye contact with LITERALLY ANYONE but it was just not happening. He was cranking out milkshakes like nobody's business and so in the zone he didn't look up once. Which, good for him. But not good for me!! I just wanted to leave! I didn't even need change, I left the exact amount plus tip. Eventually I was just embarrassed and frustrated and placed the bill, with cash inside, down in the bar area and walked out. Seriously, was it something I was wearing?? It was so loud in there with the throng of 20 youths next to me, even if I yelled it would not have made a difference. Please do something about your system, guys, it seems like unless you're an older man or a group of people you just won't get service. Shoutout to the female server though, I probably would have left without ordering anything if she didn't help out. And yes, I did tip, although if I could have deducted it from everyone else's tips I would. For shame, dudes. Leaving two stars rather than one because my other experiences were maybe 3.5 or 4 stars but this brought down the average, like, a lot. read more

We ordered lunch for my office today walked the five blocks (20 degrees outside) VERY disappointed in the service and the food. No syrup or butter or utensils placed in bag, no bacon which was paid for until I inquired as to why not there, the Trojan is advertised as a wrap it was not , and the toast was stale. Stopped by for breakfast with friends, hadn't been there in 30 years! Glad to say me and my group had a great time and a great breakfast. First and foremost coffee was excellent, we had blueberry pancakes which were great, an sausage omelet with the standard homefrys and toast and a bowl of oatmeal. All was very good and makes me know we will be back. Spying on other people's food makes me want to try the French toast and burgers. Also very important the staff was great they can make or break a place, they were on point for a very busy Sunday morning and pleasant to converse with! Food? 8/10. Both times I've been. BUT, the second time I went here, I don't know if they were having an off day, but we came for Mother's Day. I kept hyping this place up to my mom. And unfortunately the service was terrible. Waitress was polite enough, but she took forever to bring us our menus. They let you choose your seat, and apparently they couldn't see us for 10 mins? And then it took another 5-10 to ask if we wanted a drink. And then another 10 for her to ask our food. And during this whole time I have a perfect view of 5 waiters/waitresses sitting in plain view talking and joking around. AND I see OUR waitress, sitting on the other side of this short post in between booths, sitting on her phone. And this went on for the rest of our meal. And then after 20 mins of waiting for food, another waiter comes up to us and asks what our orders were again. By the end of the meal, my mom took the bill from me and reached over the counter to our waitress sitting on her phone to give her the bill because we couldn't wait anymore. The food was good, maybe even almost great, sure. But after this, I probably won't go back. It turned what should have been a very nice relaxing mother's day breakfast, into one full of anxious waiting and frustration. read more

Great, classic diner food, unassuming and really good. Friendly staff, some well below legal employment age, & a packed house. Hopefully places like this won't get squeezed if out all the people trying to flip houses in Troy have their way. I left Boston for a few years in the late 90s and came back to find Deli Haus (http://www.yelp.com/topic/boston-the-deli-haus-memories , http://www.leadpencil.net/delihaus.html) and Mal's (http://www.thebostonphoenix.com/archive/food/97/12/04/MAL_S.html) had both closed. No city should be without a good diner but they do seem vulnerable to gentrification....hopefully Manory's will be around for years. At least long enough to open that mysterious wooden box by the register with the big sign saying "Don't open until RPI hockey wins the NCAA championship." read more

Manory's is an icon in Troy, and there's plenty of reasons for that: the classic location, the always friendly and attentive service, the reasonable prices, and of course the food. With an array of egg sandwiches, omelettes, and baked goods, all your brunch needs are taken care of. My daughter attends RPI, this is my favorite spot when we come and visit!! Absolutely love the corn beef hash! And everything else they serve! This is a great old-time dinner. The service is always good and I look forward to many, many more trips to eat here! read more

My expectations were not high for this diner. Thank goodness for that because I would've been EXTREMELY disappointed. Instead I was just... disappointed. The diner touts that it's Troy's oldest restaurant founded in 1913, which is coincidentally probably the last time they painted or mopped the place. Nothing irritates me more than when I walk into a restaurant and my shoes stick to the floor bc the floor is literally THAT dirty. Oh wait I lied, sitting in a booth and having to thoroughly clean off the food fragments from the last patron with the dirty napkin that the waiter haphazardly placed there for me... yea that annoys me even more. Congrats Manory's you nailed them both! Don't get me wrong, the waiter was nice but he's in the wrong industry. Nice young guy though, just not attentive and very slow to bring the check or take our credit cards. The food was not good. To be fair I got the most health conscious item on the menu: a vegetable omelet. They probably aren't used to people ordering that. Seems like everyone else was getting the Buffalo chicken omelet, which I would've tried except for the fact that it has cheese (which I cannot eat) and implicitly states on the menu: NO SUBSTITUTIONS. Sooooooo yea. They're not very accommodating. No options for people with dietary restrictions. Didn't even have lemon slices for my water. The silverware was almost as cloudy (not clean) as my glass of lemon-less tap water. My vegetable omelet had no flavor and the hash browns tasted like the generic off brand ones you can buy in the frozen section at your local grocery store. The prices were decent but not great. I don't know why people like this place so much, unless it's nostalgia. I almost feel bad leaving this negative review because everyone was nice but honestly they don't even have a website so likely don't know what Yelp is, so here goes... If I could sum up this place in a few words I'd say "low quality comfort food". Never again. read more

Breakfast was terrible. Asked the waiter if they served corned beef hash, since it wasn't on the menu. He said yes. What they served was warmed over over cooked slices of corned beef, with a few scraps of over cooked potatoes with it. The buttermilk pancakes were tough. Plus the food was not hot. It's not often I find myself in Troy on a Sunday morning, so I decided to check out the local food fare. After checking Google and Yelp, I established by best option was here. Walked in, first person here, which is normal for 6:30am, and I was greeted by a young man, my server, who was quick to offer me a menu and drink choice. After bringing my coffee right away, I ordered the Buffalo Chicken omelette. While waiting for my food, I enjoyed the playful banter between my server and a woman named Jen, who I can only imagine is an owner. It was funny yet professional, witty yet smug. Couple minutes later, Louie, who is definitely an owner, brings me my food, and asks me if I would like my coffee refreshed. I agree, and instantly Jack is right here to fill it up. I dig into my meal, and I mean that literally. This is one of the fullest plates I've ever seen. One word: Delicious! The Buffalo Chicken omelette was spicy, but not drenched in hot sauce, and the home fries had a great blend of sautéed onions and jalapeños in them. Louie comes over and checks on my half way through, and tells me a little about the specials. I call it quits with a little left on my plate, only cause I can't fit another bite in, and ask for my check, which was brought over post haste. $12 for everything, which was fair. HORRIBLE FOOD AND RUDE MANAGER. We ordered 4 simple plates of eggs, bacon, pancakes, etc. Ordered 4 sides of home fries. It took one hour to get our food. When it came out, it was undercooked and greasy. They ran out of home fries and without asking, substituted french fries instead - which were also undercooked. I called over the manager and asked him to reduce our $62 bill at least for the undercooked fries and he said I had some nerve to complain and I had the option 30 minutes after placing our order of walking out and said if I didn't pay full price, he would call the cops! He said they were short staffed and that the food and service issues were not his fault. What?!?! Stay away from this dump. My daughter and wife are sick from the food. read more

Got the Huevos Rancheros and a "never empty" cup of the coffee. 'Cheros were good, coffee was good except I wouldn't call it "never empty", heck, I'd be as brash as to call it the "more often than not empty" cup of coffee. Overall, I'll give it 4 out of 5 Schiels, would recommend. read more

Manorys has been a staple in downtown Troy for a long time- but I've only just had my first experience. I'm not huge on diners, and not huge on breakfast foods, but tried my best to have a positive outlook when I was taken here for breakfast one morning. The place itself is outdated and needs a makeover, but staff is friendly and pointed out some items that would be of interest to me when I asked about what was good and interesting. I'm not one to jump on the typical diner Bfast special of 3 eggs, some toast, bacon and potato, so I was excited by some of the interesting pancake and Belgian waffle options they had. The waiter told me I should try the PB and J French toast if I wanted one of their more unique dishes since that one was a hit- so I did and it was great. My dads dish was a more plain Jane breakfast special and it just looked bland and I appealing. There was no seasoning, it was sloppily put together, and did not do anything for me when I tasted it. There's some hidden gems for dishes here but definite need for a refresher to the restaurants look and the regular everyday typical dishes need sprucing up as well. read more

This fucking place was awful. We (4) were seated at 12:18pm and was not served our food until 1:30pm. There were parties being sat AFTER us and getting their food and leaving before we were served. Typically, I would assume that things were backed up, but that was not so considering other parties were getting their food quickly. How long does it take to fucking make eggs and bacon? Our server didn't even apologize. He fucking sat us down and legit forgot about our table. When I said something when we got our fucking bill he gave me a ten percent discount and blamed it on the kitchen. Nah, not the kitchens fault, considering they were preparing everyone else's food promptly. He's lucky I didn't throw the coffee in his fucking face. The ABSOLUTE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD. This is simply a tremendous restaurant. The staff could not be more courteous or helpful, the food is delicious, the portions are generous, and the prices are reasonable. Great breakfast and brush spot with options that are a little different from the usual. When I went in, they had a macaroni and cheese omelette (my brother ordered that) and cinnamon roll french toast (my choice). We were recommended to try this place by a few of our friends and I read the reviews online which were generally good. I have to say my experience here was disappointing as we waited over an hour after having been seated for our breakfast. They were steady, but not overly crowded. We noticed that 6 tables that had been seated after us all had been served and were finished eating before ours had even come out. We asked our waiter if the order was misplaced, or not put in at all. His response was "we are overly backed up today, sorry." ...it didn't seem overly backed up considering everyone else had their food in a reasonable time. I'm no professional chef, but it doesn't take over an hour to make eggs and toast. When we finally got our food it was good, but not anything special. I don't have anything bad to say regarding the food itself. I would give this restaurant a second chance if our server was a little nicer or admitted to the mistake, maybe gave us a free one on the house, but nope. He did take 10% off the bill.
