Plastic Surgery Saved My Life!…read more I did a crazy amount of research and read so many reviews before choosing Dr. Gary Lawton (aka The Perfectionist), and man, let me tell you how right I was. I literally drive from Austin to San Antonio to see him and have zero regrets, because he actually saved my life! I went in for your typical "mommy makeover"--a tummy tuck, breast lift, and reduction. My friends continually questioned why I wanted the reduction since I wasn't even that large to begin with. Even Dr. Lawton said I'd look great with just a lift. But I insisted on wanting to be smaller (a B cup is all I need!), and he immediately said okay. He didn't look at my partner for their opinion; he focused completely on what I wanted. Best decision of my life! On operation day, he checked in one last time while marking me up. I told him, "I want them cute, perky, and to never need a bra again." That is EXACTLY what I got, plus something extra. The pathology report from the removed tissue came back showing pre-cancerous cells. If we hadn't done the reduction, we never would have found it, and I would have most certainly developed breast cancer. If Dr. Lawton hadn't truly listened to my desires, I would have never known. When he had to break the scary news to me, his bedside manner was amazing--calm, caring, and honestly he was low-key excited to know he just saved a woman's life.He even took the time to personally call the oncologist and get me an immediate appointment to start treatment. The entire process has been incredible. His nursing staff answers all my random recovery questions via phone and email in plain terms and keeps me totally reassured. My in-person post-ops have been just as amazing. Also, shoutout to the anesthesiologist--literally one of the sweetest, kindest humans ever. I felt so safe. Going into major surgery comes with fears and doubts, but every single step of the way, I felt comforted and safe. I am so glad I chose Dr. Lawton for this life-changing event. Because he actually listened to me instead of just doing a lift, I get to live cancer-free. There aren't enough words to thank him. If you are looking to get "made over," choose Dr. Gary Lawton. He is worth it, and I trust him and his staff with my life. I will forever be grateful for his desire to listen to patients and be there every step of the way.

He told me I needed to replace, but did not tell me that I didn't have a leak until he had my money and was taking me into surgery. He has you show up in the morning then puts you in a small room with no tv and the room makes a terrible noise. I was told I would be going in around 11 am and was not taken back until 5:45. After surgery, I knew I was unhappy because my breast were not level. At the 3 month visit, I continued to express my unhappiness...only to have him tellme to throw a blanket over my head. I was so angry that I didn't return until I read another woman's review saying he redid her breasts. I went in for the one year review and again told his assistant why I had not returned. He came in the room and agreed to redo my implants. He then said, "anything can be fixed." His fix was to make my breast larger. I went through severe pain due to the drain tube was on so tight. I could not sleep and it would unexpectedly take my breath away. Now I am one year out from him making my breast larger "his fix" and my breast still are not right. I went through so much pain. I've decided to live with what I have. I don't think I could tolerate another fix. This review will not let me make corrections without deleting everything else I've written. To be clear, he told me to throw a blanket over my mirror.

From check-in through the physician encounter, I repeatedly felt that no one was listening to what I was saying. After completing the intake questionnaire on an iPad, the front desk told me I needed to sign consent for P&I because the physician would want to perform it. I explained that the VA had already performed P&I and that I had brought the results. The iPad was handed back to me anyway. I explained it a second time: the procedure has already been performed, I have the results with me, and I am not consenting to unnecessarily repeat it. When I was taken back, the medical assistant asked why I had refused to sign the P&I consent. For the third time, I explained that I had already undergone the procedure and was holding the results. She responded that I had apparently already signed the form and she must have missed it. For the fourth time, I explained: No, I did not sign it. I already had the procedure. The results are right here in my hand. Then I met Dr. Holck. When I explained that the VA had referred me specifically for this procedure, he asked why I didn't simply have the VA perform it. I told him that based on my personal experiences, I was not comfortable having the VA perform surgery on me. Rather than simply respecting that decision as my choice as a patient, he defended his VA provider friends, telling me that they were competent and that he liked them. Eventually, Dr. Holck moved on to explain the proposed stent procedure and possible DCR/CDCR options if the initial treatment was unsuccessful. He also explained that the stent would eventually be removed while I was awake. In a desperate last-ditch effort to establish rapport but showing a bit of vulnerability, I jokingly told him that having something removed from my eye while awake sounded intimidating, but that I believed I could handle it. He responded by telling me that he performs the procedure on children, so it depends on how mature someone is, and then he asked me: "Are you mature?" That was the point at which I lost confidence in allowing this physician to operate on me. I am 44 years old. I am a DOCTOR. I served 21 years in the United States Air Force and am a 100% disabled veteran. None of those things should be required for a patient to be treated respectfully. Every patient deserves that. I mention them because being asked whether I was "mature" after expressing a reasonable concern about an eye procedure felt particularly patronizing. I came here because I needed a surgeon. I left feeling dismissed and disrespected throughout the experience and without the level of trust I would need to allow this physician to operate on me.

When I told him I wanted to be a specific size, he said they don't do things that way. I was then given the option of different size implants with cc's and was told to figure out which size I wanted. When I chose the smaller size, the staff and doctor recommended I size up, that I wouldn't be happy enough. They said everyone decides that what they went with was too small and always wishes they had gone bigger. When I woke up from the surgery, the first thing I said was, I hated them they were too big, the staff blew me off with that response and told me to come back for my follow up appointment. At all of my follow up appointments I voiced my concern about how I still did not like the way I looked, that they were too large. I was ignored by both the staff and the doctor every time I voiced my opinion about it. After my last follow up it was as if I no longer existed. He was really…read moreoutstanding when I first saw him back in August 2025, considering that I already had really bad luck when I previously went to Dr Arthur Medina OD earlier last summer. Dr Pessoa seemed really enthusiastic and very on top of explaining the changes in my vision. So when he suggested following up with him for a medical eye exam, and I had specified to him that I really wanted to be considered for medically necessary contacts, I made an appointment with him for early Sept 2025. However, it wasn't until I saw him that Sept at this 14807 San Pedro Avenue location that I found out I wouldn't be considered for medically necessary at all. He only told me during my Sept appointment that the only doctor who could see me for medically necessary purposes would be Dr Erdmanczyk. I have to admit that I wasn't too happy about this because, if I had known that only certain doctors would be able to evaluate me for medically necessary purposes, I could have waited to do my medical eye exam later. It realiy would have been nice and much more forthcoming if I had been told this upfront back in August 2025 at the Alamo Heights location. For that reason, I am only giving 3 stars. I really think Dr Pessoa could have done a little better in properly informing me. I also noticed that he also wasn't as enthusiastic about examining me during my follow-up appointment with him in Sept 2025. And for those very reasons, I really could have waited to do my medical exam appointment later in the year with Dr Erdmanczyk if I had been properly informed before coming to this location that he was the only doctor who could see patients for medically necessary purposes. Especially because I went out of my area of Alamo Heights to this San Antonio Eye Center location for my medical eye exam.
