Getting an appointment was problematic but I was thrilled with the eventual result. Dr. Holck was very nice and the ptosis operation to correct my drooping lid was very fast and the results were exceptional. Expect some itching and bruising but in three weeks I looked great. read more

VA Ophthalmology performed probing and irrigation (P&I) and determined that I needed surgical intervention, so I was referred to Dr. Holck. From check-in through the physician encounter, I repeatedly felt that no one was listening to what I was saying. After completing the intake questionnaire on an iPad, the front desk told me I needed to sign consent for P&I because the physician would want to perform it. I explained that the VA had already performed P&I and that I had brought the results. The iPad was handed back to me anyway. I explained it a second time: the procedure has already been performed, I have the results with me, and I am not consenting to unnecessarily repeat it. When I was taken back, the medical assistant asked why I had refused to sign the P&I consent. For the third time, I explained that I had already undergone the procedure and was holding the results. She responded that I had apparently already signed the form and she must have missed it. For the fourth time, I explained: No, I did not sign it. I already had the procedure. The results are right here in my hand. Then I met Dr. Holck. When I explained that the VA had referred me specifically for this procedure, he asked why I didn't simply have the VA perform it. I told him that based on my personal experiences, I was not comfortable having the VA perform surgery on me. Rather than simply respecting that decision as my choice as a patient, he defended his VA provider friends, telling me that they were competent and that he liked them. Eventually, Dr. Holck moved on to explain the proposed stent procedure and possible DCR/CDCR options if the initial treatment was unsuccessful. He also explained that the stent would eventually be removed while I was awake. In a desperate last-ditch effort to establish rapport but showing a bit of vulnerability, I jokingly told him that having something removed from my eye while awake sounded intimidating, but that I believed I could handle it. He responded by telling me that he performs the procedure on children, so it depends on how mature someone is, and then he asked me: "Are you mature?" That was the point at which I lost confidence in allowing this physician to operate on me. I am 44 years old. I am a DOCTOR. I served 21 years in the United States Air Force and am a 100% disabled veteran. None of those things should be required for a patient to be treated respectfully. Every patient deserves that. I mention them because being asked whether I was "mature" after expressing a reasonable concern about an eye procedure felt particularly patronizing. I came here because I needed a surgeon. I left feeling dismissed and disrespected throughout the experience and without the level of trust I would need to allow this physician to operate on me. read more

Upon check in, they had me sign a form authorizing a tear duct test. This was not done and I will be watching my insurance to see if they will change for it, because my experience tells me these people are mostly interested in money. Waited for half an hour and they marked me "Late due to insurance". Saw the doctor for not more than 5 minutes, where he said the surgery was medically necessary. Then sent to see a "surgical coordinator" who said that the surgery was medically necessary, but refused to work with insurance to get coverage, and presented me with an estimate that would be due before surgery. If it is medically necessary, why won't they work with insurance to get it covered. She refused to work with insurance. Just wanted money. If that's how they handle things, they won't be helping me be able to see. There's a lot of surgeons out there, and I will find someone who cares about my vision. Beware these people, and be ready to be treated like meat with eyes! read more

Dr. Debecker operated on my upper drooping lids. I followed diligently followed with post-op icing and the erythomicin cream. There was hardly any pain. Debecker called that evening to see how things were going. All well. After the brusing and swelling resolved it was sort of apparent that one lid was not fully corrected. A revision that required only local deadening was performed some months later. It's only been a week, but I can see that the lid will be right where it's supposed to be. That was quick and easy and with only a few days for recovery can resume most gym activities. I am most satisfied with Debecker's thoughtful approach and communication throughout. My son was sent to this specialist to remove a piece of glass out of his eyelid from a car accident where his head went through a windshield his eye specialist sent him to this specialist and he did nothing but order him medicine and tell him to wait a year. Dr. Holck did nothing to remove the glass enlodged in my sons eyelid. The doctor did nothing, took pictures, called that a procedure, charged us for a procedure/test, no test was done, how can taking a picture be called a test. This doctor was useless and my son still has glass in his eyelid. Watch it for a year he says, how does that treat the problem. Very disappointed with care received, charged for nothing, no procedure, no tests. Feel very taken advantage of, what good is a specialist if they do nothing to correct a situation. Waited for a visit for 30 minutes, in the procedure room for 5 minutes, no relief, no treatment to cure or relieve. Dawn, the manager, called the next day to follow-up because we were not satisfied with the treatment received and offered an opportunity for us to see another doctor in the office, why would they offer that? is Dr Houlk not qualified? Has Dr Houlk had other people not satisfied with his work? probably? Maybe Dr Houlk shouldn't be practicing if he's not competent and has to have somebody else see his patients because he did nothing for them. I refused to drive another hour and a half to that facility again. At this point they Can't be trusted in my opinion. My daughter has had a blocked tear duct her whole life. At 15, I decided to finally see whether we could get it repaired. I was referred to Eyeplastix by my ophthalmologist. Dr. DeBacker examined her and told us they would place a silicon tube into the tear duct if they could locate it. Then it says in place for a few weeks to months. Since hers had never been opened before, it stayed in three months. The procedure went well, though it felt very strange for a while until she grew used to it. It about sloppier out one night, but we were told by the overnight emergency resident how to get it back in place. The office is pleasant. We had a bit of a wait, but once we were in the exam room and the doctor came in, he was friendly and efficient. I am happy with the outcome. We met another woman in for the same surgery that day. She had lived with this for 50+ years, and it had finally led to infection. You can live with it, but it is going to be nice now that my daughter will not constantly get questioned "what's wrong?" read more

I had a short consultation with Dr. HOLCK. I initially went in to have a small eyelid growth removed and to discuss upper and lower lid surgery. He immediately was focussed on the surgery versus the simple removal of a growth on my upper eyelid, which took all of less than 15 minute visit. Upon leaving, I immediately returned back to ask his assistant as to what about the removal of the growth. They were busy & could not stop and answer answer one question . So I told them to reach back out to me. No one did so I called the next day and spoke with. Terrisa who did not see any notes from the doctor about my concern. She said that she would ask the doctor to write down any recommendations and she would call me back. It's been five days now and no one has returned my call. Do not go to this place as it is clear that they are only concerned with The more expensive procedures versus addressing the concerns of the patient. Moreover, I noticed that everyone was told that the doctor requested a test on the tear ducts, which was also an extra expense that I did not see the point of having. So along with my co-pay and the extra tear duct test, not worth going because they are just concerned with much more expensive procedures versus addressing patient concerns. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Holck. When I first consulted with Dr. Holck complaining that I could not read because of my droopy eyelids, he did a test that revealed my peripheral vision was affected by my eyelids. He informed me that insurance would pay for that procedure, however, if I wanted to see better, I would need an eyebrow lift. I had both procedures and miraculously, I rarely need my cheaters. I feel like I am a safer driver since my peripheral vision is excellent. The bonus, this procedure makes me look younger! read more

First of all I can't find any reviews for Dr. Wesley Brundridge so I guess I am the first to give a review. Dr Brundridge did my surgery and it did not turn out well at all. I have a line of bumps on my upper eyelid and in the outside corners of both eyes. Dr. Brundridge offered to try to remove the bumps by laser eight months later with a local in his office. I told him I had already paid $5,700.00 for the surgery to be done in the hospital and I didn't want to do it in his office with a local. He said the hospital and others would not donate or do it again for free. After lots of discussion he talked me into agreeing to doing it in his office with a local. He tried to repair it but it has only made it more obvious that the job was not done correctly. Now I still have the bumps in the inside and outside corners of my eyes which are worse than before along with about an eighth of an inch thick line that was left by the laser across my whole upper eyelid. NO COMMUNICATION! Super frustrating. Don't expect to reach anyone. You better write your questions down, ask everything while you see them in person and don't leave until your satisfied. Only the automated system will answer. It leaves you on hold for maybe a minute then you either leave a message or it disconnects! Call backs take days and when you get one you also get minimal info or a poor attitude or both. Its insane the effort you have to put in to get to a human. I had to get messages sent through other offices secretaries and their own billing staff and the only reason I could do that was they were calling about that $$$$$. Dr. DeBacker did my upper & lower eyelid surgeries and I am very happy with the results! The procedure was thoroughly explained at the initial consultation w him and his staff was great about letting me know what my charges would be since insurance doesn't usually pay for lower lid surgeries. The procedure went very smoothly & I found the staff at the surgical center professional and efficient. I was given post surgery instructions w the assurance that Dr DeBacker was only a phone call away. He even called me personally that afternoon to make sure I was doing well. There was very little pain and I never had to take any of the pain meds he'd prescribed. I had a couple of issues during the recovery period a few weeks post surgery and each time, I called Dr DeBacker on his cell and he immediately returned my calls & promptly responded to my concerns & they were resolved. Three months after the surgery, I am amazed at the difference it made in how I look, and more importantly, how much better my vision is. Had Dr. Holck do my eye lid surgery in 2021. At first i was impressed in what he did however when I booked it I was told by his accounting dept that insurance would not pay anything. Well I paid him cash and sure enough the insurance paid him as well. Double dipping I would call it. He made an additional estimated $2500.00. Had my follow ups about once every month to two months and in all he didn't spend 5 minutes with me on each appointment. Took longer to wait for him to see me. One of them I explained to him that it felt like there was something in my eye, he said that he could go back and do something again. Of course at my cost. Won't happen! I was referred by my eye doctor in Uvalde to tighten a lower eyelid that was not removing the liquid that was not reaching the tear duct. The surgery went well, however the rest of my visits have been terrible. I am located 3 hrs away from their office. My visit yesterday was the final straw that broke the camels back. Yesterday I drove 3 hours, arrived 45 minutes early then waited 1 hour and 10 minutes beyond my appoint time before seeing Dr Holck for a total of 8 minutes. All of my visits have had similar excessive wait times. He gave me 2 prescriptions which the nurse was supposed to send my pharmacy. I gave her the name and location and zip code. I then departed for a 3 1/2 hour drive home. When I went to the pharmacy this afternoon, you guessed it; NO prescription. Called the office, clerk puts me on hold for 5 minutes then tells me the prescription was sent. When I asked when she admitted that it was 3 minutes ago. Also spoke to the Office Manager (?) which was akin to talking to my self. One other point. In the past month I have been been billed twice for service from the gas passer on my operation which Medicare and Tri Care for Life have confirmed was paid but billed twice. Bottom line; unless you have masochistic tendencies I would recommend you find somewhere else to have your surgery done and check your billing closely. read more

You can see by my rating that I am a very dissatisfied customer. I had a procedure to get rid of eyebags. I am Black and asked if that would be a problem due to melanin. I was assured by Dr. Holck that it was not a problem. My under eyes turned black. They tried different things such as peels and creams. The creams were an out of pocket expense and were expensive. They attempted to charge me for the visit. I finally got fed up and canceled my follow up. Because of the charge! I have an appointment for surgery in 2 days and still no return call from last week or yesterday. I had a few simple questions but can't get any answers. I was told there would be prescriptions called in but nothing. NO direction and NO communication from Dr. Holck's nurse. His nurse's VM even says DO NOT keep calling because it slows the process. What process??? I have waited a week for a phone call. I may have no option but to cancel the surgery and try my luck with another surgeon. He came highly recommended but I'm reconsidering because if I get treated this way prior to surgery then this is what I am to expect post surgery. No thanks! I'm extremely disappointed.... read more

About 3 years ago I was referred to Dr Debacker by my sister. She had her upper and lower lids done by him and they looked very good. She said that he had redone the bottom lids because after the original surgery she still had wrinkles but he did it for free and she was happy. I took time off of work and drove to San Antonio to meet with him and we discussed having the skin removed from my eyelids, removing some fat pockets underneath as well as the wrinkles. He submitted it to insurance and I was told that insurance would pay for the upper lids and an eyebrow lift. So, I paid out of pocket, several thousand dollars for the bottom lids. The day before surgery, a representative in his office called me and said that Insurance would not pay for the eyebrow lift nor the upper lids. I told him I would pay out of pocket for the upper eye lid but did not have any more money to pay for the eyebrow lift. I took time off work, drove to San Antonio, stayed in a hotel and had the surgery the next day. I drove home and stayed off work for 2 weeks. On my follow up visit I voiced concern about the wrinkles under my eyes and that my upper eyelids still had a lot of skin. He said let's take a look at it again in a couple of weeks, it will look better when the swelling goes down. I went to my follow up appointment. The upper lid was still a little puffy and had lots of skin, he said it was still swollen and would take several months to regain the proper shape. The wrinkles under my eyes were still there, so he said that I should do some chemical peels and that should take care of it. Four months later I did a chemical peel at a spa in Austin. Four months later I did another one and one more four months later. The wrinkles did not disappear. I referred a friend to Dr. Debacker, since I still had confidence in his ability at that time and she had an upper eyelid repair. Eight weeks later she had to have it redone. During this time, I was seeing a Dermatologist for sun spots and I listed that I had previous eyes surgery so he asked about my eyes, I told him about the chemical peels. He told me to stop immediately and advised that I seek a second opinion from another plastic surgeon. I went to see a Plastic Surgeon in Austin. He was surprised that I had the upper and lower lid surgery and said that he did not think the surgeries were successful and I should ask the prior surgeon (Dr Debacker) to redo the surgery. I asked him if an eyebrow lift would repair the now sagging upper eye lids and he said no, that it wouldn't look right. I also saw a Plastic Surgeon in Waco and he too seemed surprised that I had my 'eyes done" and commented that I may need to talk to the original surgeon. I went back to see Dr. Debacker and he told me that the sagging upper lid could not be repaired or I wouldn't be able to close my eyelids, basically it was because I chose not to have the eyebrow lift. He agreed to redo the under eyes in the office (at no cost). A few weeks later I took off work again and he did the surgery. Once again, I could still see wrinkles afterward. On the follow up visit he said that it would be better after the swelling went down. Two weeks later the wrinkles had not disappeared. I lost confidence in his ability to get the job done and asked him for a refund, so I could go to another plastic surgeon and have it done for a 3rd time. He said no, but offered to see me again. I told him no. I sent him current photos along with a letter asking for a refund. He sent me a letter and basically said that the sagging was due to the aging process. I disagree, prior to the initial surgery I was 52 years old and the wrinkles and sagging had taken a very long time to occur. Now he was saying that it happened again within 3 years. I again reached out to him asking for a refund and again he said no. This process had been spread out over a 3 year period and I still am not happy with the result sand I am out more than $7000.00. I am posting current photos and will let you be the judge if this surgery was worth the cost. I firmly do not recommend Dr. Debacker. This timeline is to the best of my ability and this process has been very lengthy and painful. read more

First appointment was over 1.5 hour wait and doctor was friendly enough, though obviously in a hurry. 2nd appointment was the actual procedure. 1 hour 15 min wait time. I paid an additional $175ish over what insurance would pay. I came to your clinic because I wanted someone with experience to work on my eye area after cauterizing from a dermatologist did not work. I was never told I'd be worked on by an intern (on his own). I didn't appreciate that though he did have a nice friendly manner. I still have a small bump on my eye (not sure if this is scar tissue, normal, unusual...) During the procedure the intern said your responsibility is to keep the area moist (that was about it in relation to care). At the end he said Tori (I think that was her name) would talk to me about aftercare. Tori walked around the room cleaning up while I sat there, then told me to come with her and she took me straight to checkout (she never said a word to me about aftercare). George (I think that was his name) was friendly and checked me out. I told him that the intern said I needed to keep it moist, but no one told me with what. He got up and asked Tori and I could see and hear her (sounded like disdain). She told him she had already called in a prescription. While I got a paper beforehand with some general information for many procedures - all it said about a prescription is one may be called in and it was not specific). Follow-up appointment was a month from surgery, George said this length of time was due to doctor going on vacation. I went to the pharmacy to pick up my prescription and no one had bothered to call it in. I had to call the afterhours number to request it be called in and wait longer to get it filled. The directions on the Rx had typos making me unsure of whether the ointment should for some reason go in my eye or just on the lid-in the end I decided just on the lid). For the follow-up appointment, I received a call confirming my appointment and warning I might incur a charge. I agreed. Then the Friday before my Monday appointment I received a call rescheduling the appointment for another month away (the reason given was that the doctor was training an intern and that slows things down). When that follow-up appointment came I just canceled. I didn't want to have to pay my copay (if that was the responsibility they were talking about... unsure) to sit over an hour in a crowded waiting room to be hurried through and treated like everything was fine. I still have a small bump on my eyelid. Probably this is normal. It might have been nice to have a follow up appointment, but I did not feel it was worth the ordeal.
