Here is my review of the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge while sitting in the Maple Leaf lounge at SFO. Located in Terminal 2 near the entrance to the walkway to Terminal 3, you take the elevator up to level 4 and walk down the hall toward the entrance. Entrance is based on whether you're flying business class on Air Canada flights, Star Alliance carriers or if you have the Chase Aeroplan card or Chase Sapphire Reserve flying Air Canada or a Star Alliance carriers in any class. Positives of the Maple Leaf Lounge at SFO are as follows: 1 - Views galore. Because it's located on level 4 you have unobstructed views of the runway and San Francisco Bay. They also have an outside patio that's pretty usable most of the year. 2 - the vibes of the lounge are light and breezy with large windows letting in a lot of natural light. 3 - Seating is both a positive and negative. With a focus on the ramp, there are a lot of counter and table seating facing outward. However, that leads to a lack of variety and tends to make the lounge feel crowded during high traffic times. The negatives of the lounge are as follows: 1 - Food options. During this current visit the soda machine ran out of ice, but no one proactively went about to fix it and the soda dispenser felt like it needed to be refilled. 2 - the food when available was tasty, but during this visit they ran out of food at the buffet three times, meaning either the kitchen can't keep up with the volume or there is no one actively monitoring the buffet. 3 - Showers are available, but felt a little exposed because of the layout of the space. Perhaps a little barrier of some sort blocking that hallway can alleviate that situation. Overall, I think the Maple Leaf Lounge at SFO has a lot to offer, but also needs to tighten up its service to meet the standards set by its Star Alliance partners. It's less crowded than its neighboring Club at SFO or the temporary Centurion Lounge, but not on the level of the Polaris or soon a revamped United Club. read more

I'd come if I had some extra time before a flight, but not a lounge I really look forward to spending time in. read more

Really poor overall service and food options are limited and bland. Hard product is high quality though and can be so much better with the right staff. Current staff isn't the right people except female bartender who was kind and wonderful. Asked to be added to the shower list and just gave me a buzzer that wasn't turned on and nobody was waiting for the shower or using the shower for the 2 hours I was there. Whenever I asked the staff snapped at me "just wait". Ridiculous behavior. read more

I got in using one of my free passes from owning the Chase Aeroplan Credit card. I entered just after 6:30am on a Tuesday. I had no issues with any of the check in ladies. By 7am, the lounge was about 85% full. Lounge was clean and still looked new. For breakfast options they had: Oatmeal, black bean soup, sausages, potatoes, pancake, tortilla, OJ, apple juice, coffee, tea, cereal, pastry, assorted fruit, yogurt and granola. The hot food items were below average. Served just slightly above room temperature. The decaf coffee tasted watered down. There is another coffee machine which as others have mentioned is broken. Tip: go to the bar to get your espresso. Unfortunately no alcoholic beverages until after 11am. The outside patio is nice. Good amount of seating with a few fire places. There's also 3 private work stations, 2 showers and a couple lounge rooms with a TV. If you don't have a pass, I wouldn't recommend buying one. The food at The Club, is better. read more

Popped in for a short visit this evening to eat a much better meal versus what I saw earlier at the United Club. The food options included teriyaki chicken, miso asparagus, vegetable yakisoba noodles and even lemon meringue pies . Food presentation and taste was appealing and appetizing. The lounge was quite full though and the outdoor patio section was closed for construction so that was a bit of a disappointment. No timeline posted anywhere on when the construction will be finished. As long as the food continues to be better than the United Club then will take the detour here before my flight every time. read more

Came back again to this lounge on a layover in the afternoon and they had an Asian inspired lunch spread. There was miso glazed asparagus, fried noodles, fried rice, and chicken. I'm not sure why, but all I had to do was scan my boarding pass and the the gates opened. No need to show my reserve card or anything. Maybe cuz I booked my flight thru the Chase portal? Outdoor space in an airport lounge is the ultimate flex. What's better than fresh air? The Maple Leaf is my pick for top lounge at SFO because of this amenity. On the occasions I've passed time here before a flight to Toronto, it's been easy to find a spot to perch (read: not too crowded). And it might be my imagination but everyone in here seems nicer (which I attribute to them being Canadian). I know what I am and that's 100% an airport lounge lover! So when I got into the Maple Leaf lounge via my first class United ticket, I was super excited to check out a new spot. Arrived exactly 3 hours before my flight (I absolutely hate the 3 hour rule) and I was pleasantly surprised. A few weeks ago, I went into the standard United club and thought it was just ok. This one is definitely a more elevated alternative. They have a lovely outdoor section that I quickly looked at since it was raining, but when I'm back, I'll make sure to take full advantage. Food was great here! They were serving up potatoes, pork loin, salad, and cauliflower in a spicy green sauce. So delicious! It makes me a bit upset that I grabbed lunch before heading in. Drinks and bartenders were great too! So many folks were drinking espresso martinis this day and they looked delicious. Lastly, I loved the private rooms here. They have a few common areas with the option to close yourself in via sliding glass door. Such a nice feature. Cute few hours at this lounge! If you have a first class ticket via United, this is a great option if you're not feeling the United clubs available. read more

Overcrowded, bad food, and no alcohol until 11:00am. This lounge has a lot of wasted potential. The high point is the incredible outdoor terrace with lots of seating and epic views of the runways. The bar also has great views and friendly, talented bartenders. Sadly, unlike any other lounge at SFO, the bar doesn't open until 11:00am sharp. They won't even give you a menu before then. The late opening is a major pain point for travelers coming in from other time zones or people who don't want to queue in line for alcohol service around the switchover to lunch. Speaking of food, the day I went had some of the worst catering I've ever experienced at a lounge. Terrible Mexican food for breakfast, and for lunch . . . again terrible Mexican food. No Canadian food or any other culture's cuisine in sight. The final nail in the coffin is the immense overcrowding. Felt more crowded than even the temporary Centurion lounge at SFO. The powers-that-be for Maple Leaf Lounges need to step up and serve alcohol earlier and get better catering. Until then, I can't call this a premium lounge, even though the Sapphire Reserve cards provide access. Walk across the hall to AMEX's temporary Centurion Lounge. read more

The nearby United Club lounge in E was at capacity, so the staff suggested that I walk to the Maple Leaf Lounge, supposedly 3 minutes away. While I'd argue that the elevator bay is 3 minutes away, it can take a little longer to wait for the elevator! Once you get there, I can tell you that the walk is worth it! I feel like I've been missing out. While United Club has been cutting back on food, the Maple Leaf Lounge has real protein options. And, because Air Canada has less flights, the lounge is no where near capacity. The outdoor patio was a nice surprise -- no smoking allowed here, so even better! This place is worth seeking out even if you have even a 90 minute layover as you can get some hot food (soups, salads, pasta, cookies) and pour your own sodas, water, sparkling water, and other adult drinks for the bartender (also complimentary). They have lots of seating options (cushion chairs, tables for easier eating, bar seating, and the unique outside patio to enjoy on a nice day. They have shower rooms if you have time and need, and the restrooms are clean and spacious compared to the rest of the airport. Definitely a great find for Star Alliance Gold members (even if you are not traveling in business class on a Star Alliance flight). So I've invested a lot of butt in seat with United Airlines and United Clubs. Today I stopped by the Maple Leaf Lounge at SFO. All I will say is I love this place more than Polaris lounges. The lounge itself is not crowded, the food is actually good, and there is a good variety of dining options. My favorite thing? The outdoor patio. Echo most of the reviews here - what a great lounge! Chase Reserve got me in, nice food options (breakfast) and lots of seating. Not crowded at the time I went. I did see shower rooms available, enclosed work spaces, TV rooms, as well as a bar that opens and serves alcohol starting at 11am. But for sure the superstar is the terrace with amazing views of the tarmac, control tower, and San Francisco Bay. Heat lamps and fire pits as well. Well worth it, I will be back! read more

With United Airlines fully occupying SFO Terminal 3 (E & F Gates) and with overcrowded United Clubs in E & F, I was hoping United would add a club at Terminal 2 (D gates) since United has expanded into D. Nope. With Star Alliance Gold status, frequent fliers can access the Maple Leqf Lounge in D. It offers a superior club anyway. I've been inside a few times and here are the advantages: No crowds (at least when I've been there at night), plenty of variable seating arrangements and areas with lots of outlets. Pleasant and helpful staff from the front, the food crew, the staff cleaning tables quickly, and the bartender (who let me taste test the complimentary wines). Liquor is also complimentary. The tidy food section is not large but has a tasty selection of soups, salads, an entree or two, desserts and coffee machines. What truly elevates the lounge is the outdoor terrace with sweeping tarmac views. There are even fire pits for famous San Francisco foggy and chilly evenings. It's a great respite from the rush of the airport crowds. SFO Maple Leaf Lounge is known as one of Air Canada's top clubs. Its relaxing, upscale ambience truly excels. read more

This is one of my favorite lounges in SFO. The food selection was decent - for breakfast they had some eggs, sweet potato hash, turkey sausage, and tortillas to create some breakfast tacos. Lunch was not bad either - I enjoyed the lemon chicken and the mashed potatoes, as well as the salad bar. A quiet retreat from SFO. As a Star Alliance GOLD member I come here gratis on long layovers. The service is excellent, the food is above average for a domestic airport lounge and it's quiet with various spaces to spend your time. There are showers available too. This beats even the new United Club. And you don't need to be flying Air Canada. All Star Alliance GOLD are welcome traveling domestic or international. While it was most definitely edible, I didn't bother taking pictures. I'm sure the food changes or rotates on a regular basis anyways. Somehow, someway, I received lounge access today! I'm blessed by the great maple leaf in the sky. The best thing about this lounge are the big windows with the Bay and East hills in the distance. Storm clouds hugging the horizon. What a view! Wonderful smiling service. Also, a small, but tasty buffet to choose from. I had some French toast dressed in a light coating of powdered sugar and a smidgeon on maple syrup. Yum! Then eggs with black beans . They paired together surprisingly well. read more

The Maple Leaf Lounge is overall a nice and spacious place to relax or catch up on work before your flight. There are plenty of outlets and several rooms designed for privacy and quiet work conditions, which I really appreciated. The large windows bring in lots of natural light, making the atmosphere bright and pleasant. That said, our check-in experience wasn't great. The lounge attendant seemed bored and annoyed, with one hand supporting her chin while the other scanned our passes. When my husband didn't mention that I was his guest, she had to redo something and rudely informed us to let them know next time. Definitely not the best welcome. The food and drink options were decent, though as other reviews mention, food tends to run out quickly. When we went to grab something, a few pots were already empty, but the staff seemed to be actively replenishing them. I ended up with oatmeal, which was fine, but the brown sugar was clumped together in one hard chunk, making it frustrating to use. Despite the hiccups, it's a convenient lounge with a lot of good features. A little more attention to service at the checkin and food restocking would make it a much better experience. read more

The Air Canada Maple Leaf lounge at SFO is quiet and good for plane spotting either from the inside or the outside terrace. It is way less crowded and not far from the United Club in E and the E gates. Food is comparable between the two which means there isn't much to remember once you are done eating. We were flying business so was able to take advantage of the Maple Leaf Lounge. I am also a Priority Pass member but I am glad we went here instead. They have a couple of rooms where sports and news were televised. There was also a quiet room to do work. There is an outside seating area which was nice but we opted to sit inside and enjoy the view. They served hot and cold foods that were regularly refreshed. I had the seafood cioppino, chicken noodle soup, and sliders. There were all outstanding. The cioppino was super flavorful, chock full of tender shrimp and fish. The beef sliders were really juicy and tasty - I went back for seconds. We were there 2pm and it was not crowded, about 20 other patrons. It was a super relaxing way to start our trip. read more

Friendliest and most attentive service I've received at a US airport lounge. Every section I went to, they checked on me and the bar staff really goes above and beyond to everyone, I was really impressed by them!! The best part about this lounge is the incredible OUTDOOR PATIO WITH AMAZING VIEWS!!!! I was mesmerized by the planes taking off and arriving. Such a treat! Also loved how much joy it brought everyone as everyone took photos of the planes and themselves! Normally lounges are a bit transactional in their pragmatic function but folks seem to enjoy themselves here, which is great to see! Food is ok, I'd say much better than United, comparable to Centurion and less than Delta Skyclub. They do have full complementary bar and full food menu here from snacks to entrees to dessert. Can't complain, I enjoyed my lobster bisque so much that I had two bowls! One change I would recommend - electric sliding doors to the patio... the constant banging of folks going in and out got pretty annoying after awhile. And one more thing, shade would be great! Overall, WIN to have this lounge here! You can also use as a star alliance gold member. I'm looking forward to returning! read more

What a lovely lounge! After the Sky Club was overflowing and folks waiting in line to get in later, we thought we would return to a United Club. On the walk back to E/F we saw the sign for the AC Maple Leaf Lounge. We decided to try it out. It is way better than the UA Clubs at SFO. The bartender Paul is fantastic. They have complimentary beverages which are premium, so no extra expense to have good wine or beer. The only downside is no bar service until 11 am. But given all the other plusses, I can't take away a star. read more

Fantastic lounge, we were flying from SFO to YVR. Spacious and clean with great food options. Service was excellent as they were prompt to pick up dirty dishes. We were having issues making the hot chocolate and the staff even helped us and brought it over to our table. Food options that day for me as we were there for 2.5 hours we saw both breakfast and lunch food items. Breakfast there was a spread of fruits, pastries, scrambled eggs and bacon.
