If you've been able to have access to the exclusive United Polaris Lounge at SFO, well, good for…read moreyou. One caveat though that Jamie W and I discovered was that if your flight leaves from International Area A, you're given access to this business class lounge instead. That's because it's a rather excessive 25-minute walk away from the United Polaris Lounge in International Area G. When we asked the check-in agent whether this lounge was comparable to Polaris, he gave it an 8 out of 10. He was being much too generous. It turned out to be a claustrophobic two-room space where ironically, the first-class room was more cramped than the general area. There were barely any outlets, and it was so tight that the rotating chairs kept banging into each other. There were three warmers of hot Chinese food, but none of it was that tempting. We managed to snack on stale cookies and diet soft drinks. There was a full staff operating here, but the experience didn't really warrant that level of attention. I think the next time, we'll just build in the extra time to get back and forth from Polaris if we really want the more ideal lounge experience. RELATED - Waiting at the airport? As a result, everyone is funneled into China Airlines Lounge. I feel bad for the staff because it quickly got overfilled and the staff member checking guests in couldn't even do check-in because she was running around bussing dishes. Food was average. Fried rice with what looked like frozen veggies. Chicken and broccoli which was a bit salty but not bad. Self serve bar is nice though! Made a gin and tonic that was tasty. Fortunate enough to snag a large corner table with chairs and a booth. Was able to be productive amidst the chaos.

I thought ours was quite friendly, but things moved slowly at times - which was fine since we had like, three hours to chill. The portions are quite tiny though! Feel free to order more than one entree. The older Asian couple next to us knew what to do because they ordered a starter and then two mains each. Not sure how often the menu changes, but for dessert, I would skip the matcha panna cotta and go for the cookie. It's basically a mini version of BJ's pizookie, complete with vanilla ice cream. The main lounge itself has decent seating areas if you can snag a spot. Bartenders were hit or miss. One didn't seem super friendly, whereas the other was way more personable.

For me, the quieter side of the lounge was better though away from the food. Here you could see the progress being made on the Terminal 3 construction. Also the bathrooms on this side of the lounge were definitely cleaner and no lines. The buffet was so so but we were able to get seated in the dining room after just a five minute wait. Last time was over an hour so this visit was leisurely. Lunch options were small plates and satisfying. Beef kofta was a little dry but tomato harissa sauce helped a lot. Shrimp orzo with saffron was tasty with three large prawns. The wild mushroom bourguignon bouchée was my favorite with the meaty sautéed mushrooms layered on top of a puff pastry and covered with the boursin sauce. I would order it again. Polaris signature burger was a consistent go to for at least one of us. Juicy beef, crispy bacon and grilled onions on a brioche bun was filling. Lastly dessert choice was the matcha panna cotta and it disappointed as the matcha was just a tiny layer at the bottom of the glass so no discernible flavor. At least the grapefruit topper was juicy along with the sesame crumble were both the highlight. Great service from Elsa through our meal! Hopefully it doesn't get more crowded after all the fare changes United made to get more paying customers for Polaris.

The food is good and pretty varied - I had some Thai coconut soup, chicken thighs, mashed potatoes, and pancakes from the fun pancake machine. Halfway through my visit, they brought out some gildas & spanakopita. They're also stocked with treats like Ghirardelli chocolates, cookies, and more along with snacks. They have a freestyle Coca Cola machine but when I was there they were out of any diet options. I opted for an unsweetened iced tea. The bar area is beautiful and signature cocktails, house wines, and beer are included. There is an up charge for "premium" spirits, wine and beer. Overall this was a great lounge experience - plenty of seating, easy entry, good food, and good drink options. Well worth the $15 up charge for Priority Pass and I'd definitely return.

Walking off a plane at that hour, you are not looking for much, just somewhere quiet to land. The Alaska Lounge was right across from our gate. First time in, and the staff made it feel like they were glad we showed up. Friendly, genuine, no airport-zombie energy. The space is impressive. Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the tarmac and the hillside, plenty of natural light, and seating for every mood: work tables, soft chairs, window loungers, even a private booth if you need to take a call. I planted myself at a window seat and didn't move. The bar is well-stocked. What stood out was having an actual barista on-site. Oat milk latte and a bowl of steel cut oatmeal, exactly what I needed at that hour. One honest note: the food selection was thin and several items needed restocking when we came through. The staff were apologetic and moved quickly, which matters. But the variety just wasn't there. Solid lounge. Good people. Great space. The food program has room to grow into what the rest of the experience already delivers.

Seating was comfortable with plenty of space to spread out, charge devices, and enjoy some quiet time away from the busy terminal. The food selection was surprisingly solid for an airport lounge. Fresh pastries, light hot items, snacks, and a good variety of drinks including wine, coffee, and soft beverages. Everything was well stocked during my visit and the staff kept the area tidy. Service was friendly and welcoming from the moment I checked in. Staff were attentive without being intrusive and helped keep the space calm and organized. Overall, a smooth and comfortable pre-flight experience. Definitely one of the nicer lounges at SFO and a great way to start the trip.

Tender had gone to the head and I was told by a random male employee to come back in five minutes. I came back in five. Tender still gone. Wife went to the bar and was told that soft drinks are in main food serving area. -1 star. I saw a female employee bend over to pick up a scrap of litter that a lesser employee would have ignored. A beautiful act of professionalism. +1 star. The place can get busy and an occasional traveling swine will leave a belonging on a chair or table to "Reserve" it - rendering it unusable for possibly hours. Suggestion to Lounge: Get a manager or Security to clean these squatter bombs up and free up space.
