What an unusual tasting experience. The first winery in America to use maple syrup in the wine making process. Cute wine tasting venue indoor/outdoor with knowledgeable wine stewards. We chose the four taste flight, reasonably priced at $15. I had hoped for a walking or narrated tour of the adjacent maple forest from whence the syrup cometh but that was not an option. The tastes were interesting.

We really we surprised at how good the wine was. Not at all what I had anticipated, the maple wines are not overly sweet or thick. The wines are refreshing and fruity and smooth. The unexpected surprise was the maple ginger cider! Tim took us in a wonderful tour and we had a very enjoyable visit. We will be back soon and I can't wait!

My partner's surprise adventure one day entailed taking me to Maple Moon Sugarbush and Winery, located in the country of Petoskey. The tasting room was lovely. A large window overlooks their patio that looks out into their beautiful prairie with their Maple Trees. The bartender for the tasting room was so welcoming and knowledgeable. Not only did she share interesting information about each wine and how the wine is made from maple syrup (though, surprisingly, it is lower in sugar than most grape wines on the market), she was a great hostess and fun to chat with about all things Petoskey. The wine was very good. It has its own distinct taste, so it can't really be compared to grape wine. I especially liked the maple wines that were infused with real fruit, with the peach wine being my fave. We bought some maple syrup to take home with us too, which is delicious! I am looking forward to returning to Petoskey this spring to take a tour at Maple Moon to see how they tap their maple trees for their delicious nectar. Maple Moon Sugarbush and Winery is a highly recommended stop if you are looking for a unique experience.

Of all the wineries that we have toured in Northern Michigan, this one is the most unique. Who would think that fermenting maple syrup would yield wonderful wine? I highly recommend this wonderful place where the people are nice and the syrup runs sweet!

Quaint little winery that is America's only maple winery. Not all the wines had maple in them, but it did work well with the fruits. We each tried a wine flight of 5 wines for $9.00. We always choose different wines on our flights so we can sample double the wines. Very friendly and knowledgeable server (may have been owner). They had a lot of maple syrup, salsa and jam to choose from. We bought the cherry jalapeño jam. It was deliciously on top of a block of cream cheese and spread on crackers. Be sure and put it on your list of wineries!

Farm tour from owner Christi showed us every step of the maple syrup making process. She made us feel like family!

Finding enjoyable things for a family on 9 to do on vacation is sometimes tricky, but every single one of us loved our time at Maple Moon. Our children loved the maple ice cream and playing yard games on the patio, and the adults love the wine tasting. I've never been so insulted at a place of business. My wife and I were the only people in the winery besides one other man. We asked for a small sample of a wine that she just gave the other man. She then shouted out loud "Free wine for everyone". We were going to purchase the first wine she let us sample, but after that we just left. I don't understand how anyone would run a business with someone like this. Do you really expect someone to buy an overpriced bottle of wine without a small sample? Rude employee. And subpar wine. Go someplace else. Fire the employee. Never will go back read more

A wine made without grapes but with maple sap? Yes please! This is the first and as of now only maple winery. Very cute inside, offering personal tastings, or you can take a flight outside. A place I can leave with wine and maple syrup, sign me up! My favorite was the maple Cherry finished with some dark chocolate, you can't beat it. read more

A tiny tasting room tucked away in an orchard of maple trees with some of the most unusual and delicious sweet wines available describes this winery. We ordered a flite of 3 different wines and 1 cider, 4 pours as they say, and each tickled our taste buds. Never thought I would be drinking vino made with maple sugar. Along with the wine came a keepsake glass with the Maple Moon and Sugarbush logo and a package of oyster crackers to cleanse the palate after each pour. In addition to the little tasting room with one busy server, outside are picnic tables where patrons can enjoy their drinks and other maple products (syrup, candy and salsas and chips without maple). read more

It was nice finding some genuine people who care for their land, business and family. The wine flight was excellent and we bought some treats for our friends. I was so excited that their hours changed and were open on our first day visiting wineries in the area! The service was excellent, the wine was delicious, and the maple syrup was fantastic! Make the stop! I admit I was hesitant about this one because I don't like sweet wine and maple wine sounded like it would have to be pure sugar, sugar, sugar, but I was pleasantly surprised with the wine and ciders they offered and it wasn't all sweet. They have a super cute, rustic tasting room and the two ladies pouring samples in the tasting room were very welcoming (Christie, I'm sure was the owner, but didn't mention it and was pouring samples and smiling right along with her staff). We really loved the Early Spring Reserve (try it!). We also bought a bottle of their Bourbon Maple Syrup to go. Looking forward to enjoying the Early Spring Reserve again here at home soon. We stopped at this winery, noticing they had maple wine flavors and did some wine tasting. We were welcomed with a smile, and had great conversation and We bought some wines that we definitely liked. It was a different twist. Definitely worth going and checking out. Will be going back. read more

What a great experience! I was completely stunned that maple sap could be fermented to make really awesome wines! Some served here are mixed with grape, but most are pure maple wine. They weren't all sweet like I imagined they would be, which is great for those who don't like sweet wine. The first maple wine on the menu is the most dry. Of course, there were lots of sweet ones too! The lady who served our tasting was so friendly and knowledgeable, and we had a great experience. I really enjoyed the maple/red wine combo. The flavor reminded me of Christmas dinner! I purchased several maple products in the gift shop, and you can have syrup samples too. read more

Visited earlier this week for a tasting of their products. Had the good fortune of seeing their display at the Harbor Springs farmers market where they were offering a free tasting card for the winery if you asked for one from their son who was manning the booth. Love love love this place! We had previously visited the winery 2 years ago as my cousin suggested it as we were in the area for a wedding. We came back recently as we were camping and made this pit stop 2 hours from our camp site just because of how good it is! The inside area is cute and has other products to buy such as maple syrup, candies, BBQ rubs, shirts, etc. The first time we visited we sat inside but we sat outside as we had our dog with us and they even told us they love dogs. The deck outside is beautiful as well. The server was lovely and knowledgeable about any questions you had. My fiance and I did a flight and honestly loved every single one. We ended up buying a Blueberry and a Royal wine to take home (Blueberry is our personal favorite). The wine itself is so unique as it is made with maple syrup! If you're looking for a friendly experience and you enjoy wine do not hesitate to stop by here! read more

Such a great experience! We had a long day driving from Pittsburgh and we made it here just in time before they closed. We still got to unwine-d in the tasting room. The woman that served us was easy to talk to and knowledgeable about the wine. We got to sample 5 wines and a keepsake glass to take home for a very reasonable price. The maple in the wine is so distinctive and they have a wide variety with different amounts of a maple taste. My favorite was their Maple Gold wine, which of course is a best seller! I was very impressed with the experience and got some bottles to take home with us. We would love to come back someday! Be mindful that it is a small intimate venue so if you have more than 6 people, you may have to stand. read more

My wife did the wine tasting and I did the maple syrup tasting. She really enjoyed the maple wines and I loved the syrups! Plenty of local varieties and unique to Northern Michigan and the Petoskey area! If you are are doing a wine tour, we would highly recommend. Has more than just wine! read more

We were at a craft show in Harrisville Michigan over Labor Day and saw the Maple Moon Syrup and decided to buy it instead of our regular maple syrup. Was this ever a disappointment, the syrup was very thin with no taste. When we emailed MAple Moon, Christi Petersen was very rude in her reply email. I ended up throwing the syrup away because no one wanted to eat it. I will obviously never by syrup from this establishment again. read more

This is a really fun and unique winery in the Petoskey area. The wines are very good and distinct and the ginger maple hard cider is to die for. There are other homemade goodies that I didn't try such as maple syrup, candy and other jarred goods. It's friendly for the kids as they sell ice cream and root beer as well. Most definitely worth a stop if you're in Petoskey! read more

They are America's FIRST and ONLY Maple Winery. Their wines are fermented with maple syrup instead of grapes. When fermentation is complete, it is a dry maple wine. However, they only leave one dry and sweeten the others to varying degrees to make sure they have a little something for everyone. History

Established in 2012.

It all began when the Todd and Christi bought their 80 acres. God put it on their hearts to teach their four children about resourcefulness, hard work, integrity, gratefulness, generosity and contentment. In 2011, after 2 years of back yard sugaring, they discovered their "sweet spot." They decided to produce Pure Michigan Maple Syrup as a family business. In 2015, they turned some of their maple syrup into wine, becoming America's First and ONLY Maple Winery. While many wineries combine various ingredients to create something new, it's much rarer to take it a step further with maple syrup. Customers rave that the wines have an exceptionally smooth finish,. The ten wines available vary from dry to sweet. However, the most popular is a port style maple wine with bourbon added. They also serve a top notch Maple Ginger Hard cider and a Maple Bourbon Aged Hard Cider. It is an off the beaten path, one of a kind find, if you visit the Petoskey area!

Meet the Business Owner: Todd and Christi P.

Todd is also the owner of Woods and Water Construction, a high end custom home builder in the Petoskey Area. He loves to hunt and fish when he is not working. Christi is a former elementary school teacher. She loves to be immersed in nature in her spare time, biking, kayaking, hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and taking photos.

We were also hoping to grab a table and enjoy a few wine flights. Instead, the owner immediately told us they were too busy to accommodate us. When my mother-in-law asked if she could at least purchase her wine, the owner told her she could "try to go in there," but they were so busy that it would take a long time for anyone to help her. She then told her that if she really wanted to, she could go to the left, grab her wine, and leave. We've been coming here since they opened in 2014, so this treatment was shocking and incredibly disappointing, especially coming from the owner. The most frustrating part? We walked into the retail area to buy the wine, and there was no one in there. There were also empty tables available. We couldn't help but feel that because we were on a girls' weekend wearing funny wigs, we were judged the moment we walked in and didn't fit the atmosphere they wanted. After years of supporting this business, they've now lost a loyal wine club member and several longtime customers. We will not be returning. If you're looking for a winery where customers are welcomed and treated with respect, we'd recommend Mackinaw Trail instead.

Our dog was yelping quite a bit to the point the other patrons were aware. The owner or bartender (whoever approached us) asked "was there a bite?" And said she would put the "crotchety" dog away. We immediately left. This is absolutely unacceptable for a property to advertise as "dog friendly" if guests are encouraged to bring their dogs, they should be able to safely exit their vehicles and enter the property with their large dog, without being attacked by a dog on the property. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this location with anyone traveling with a pet. This seems to be an issue if you read other reviews as well.

We received a goodie bag with a granola bar, trail mix, and a bottle of water and there was also cold meat/cheeses and a veggie tray to eat if we wanted them (we ended up getting lunch at one of the wineries, so cannot comment on the cold snacks, but the granola bar was tasty). The tour was well paced with 45 minutes to do a wine tasting at each winery. You could tell there was a lot of thought put into the order of the wineries, as the most educational was first and the most relaxing/best views was last. Also, one of the wineries we visited offered lunch and that came at just the right time as it had been a while since breakfast. Our driver, Jeff, was very personable and was able to give information on the different wineries and what they offered. The van seats up to 9, so you could rent it for a small group or drop in on a mixed tour (which is what we did). He picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel, so we didn't have to worry about driving (which is good, because when you do four wine tastings in four hours, you drink quite a lot!).
