We were headed upstate for a fall foliage drive. We checked lodging in Manchester, Vermont but they were sold out or just ridiculously expensive. We expanded our search and came across Maple Shade Bed and Breakfast, and what a lucky find. It was a little over an hour from Manchester, where we spent the day, but well worth the drive. This B & B is set on 85 acres of rolling farm land as far as the eye can see. We pulled in and was greeted by the owner Joanne. She was very welcoming and showed us our room, the Ivory Room on the first floor. We found out she had a last minute cancellation and we were very lucky to get the room. The room has a king bed, very cute and comfortable and plenty of room to unpack. She showed us around and explained that breakfast is between 8:30-9:30 each morning, come whenever you wish. After we settled in we took a walk to the Adirondack chairs overlooking the cornfield and enjoyed a sunset with a bottle of wine we had brought. We slept well and breakfast the next morning was delicious...freshly baked muffins, fresh fruit and made to order omelette and the following day was delicious French toast. The Maple Shade Bed and Breakfast is about 25 minutes outside of Saratoga Springs and is absolutely adorable. We made a reservation a few days before, and the photos on the website just don't do it justice! I was thrilled when we pulled up to the B&B and saw a big Victorian looking house practically in the middle of nowhere (the owners have 86 acres of land). We were visiting from Boston, and I knew right away it was going to be the perfect escape from the city. We planned to stay just one night and booked the Blue Room, which is the largest room in the house and only slightly more expensive than the other rooms. When we arrived, JoAnne greeted us and showed us around the house. She made us feel immediately at home, offering freshly baked muffins and other treats from the kitchen. She showed us up to our room, equipped with a fireplace, jacuzzi tub, medium sized flat screen TV, comfy king bed and a gorgeous view of the mountains. The room was impeccably clean and comfortable -- just what we were looking for in our short getaway. JoAnne and Tom were great hosts from start to finish. Breakfast was served at a communal table in the dining room and it was a treat to get to meet and chat with the other guests. All of the food at breakfast was made to order and so delicious -- we had muffins, fresh fruit, omelettes, bacon and toast. It was all fantastic! The entire house is so cozy and welcoming -- guests can watch DVDs or take out books from the library, hang out in one of the many common areas, grab snacks and drinks from the kitchen, sit on open porch (in nicer weather), or just enjoy the privacy of their own rooms. We stayed over on a Sunday night, so I appreciated that check out was very lax. I accidentally left my phone charger in the room and Tom mailed it to me right away without a question. If you're looking for a spot in the Saratoga area to get away, relax and feel at home, the Maple Shade B&B is the place for you! read more

I can't say enough about this wonderful B&B. The owners JoAnn and Tom though of everything. The bed and bedding were so comfortable. The fluffy white towels and robes in the bathroom, they even have snacks always available. The breakfasts were beyond wonderful (the best blueberry pancakes I ever had). I spent 2 nights in October at Maple Shade Bed & Breakfast and had a lovely time. To start with, the innkeepers were gracious hosts and I enjoyed my conversations with them. They renovated the inn themselves and it is picture perfect. Throughout the inn you will see quality workmanship and attention to detail; from the ornate moldings to the faux painted walls. The inn is beautifully decorated and the ambience is both elegant and inviting. I stayed in the "Blue Room" which was beautifully furnished and warm and welcoming. It has a lovely sitting area surrounded by windows offering gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. The inn is close to Saratoga Springs which is a quaint town with a lot of character. The town's main street offers many quality stores offering unique items, many of which are designed and made by talented artisans. It is large enough that you can easily spend 1 to 2 days there just shopping. There are many restaurants lining the main street as well. The town also offers special events and activities throughout the year. Sarasota Springs is right off Rt. 87 which is a major interstate running north/south through NY state so it is a great place to stop for a few days if you are on a longer vacation and want to make a side trip. All in all I had a wonderful time and would highly recommend the Maple Shade B & B and a trip to Saratoga Springs. read more

My husband and I have stayed here about 3 times. We are always happy!! The owners are very friendly and accommodating. The house is beautifully tucked away and sits on a hill. I love taking the drive up to the house knowing that we are in great hands. It's also a convenient location from the race track, which is our main reason for visiting. There is also a restaurant down the road "Panza", that we ate at a couple of times. At night, it's so relaxing sitting on the porch and looking up at the stars. We travelled up for an overnight to support someone in a regatta on Fish Creek about 6 miles west of the B&B. The location is about a 15 minute drive from the center of Saratoga Springs; it's a pleasant drive past gorgeous foliage and farmland. The first race we had to see was at 9am, and the B&B normally serves breakfast from 8:30-9:30am, meaning we thought we'd miss it. The owners were incredibly accomodating to our schedule and offered to either prepare something quick before we left for the race, or after. When we got back, they offered to cook up some eggs or waffles if we'd like. The rooms are very well maintained and clean; everything seems rather new. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the sheets a great quality. We both slept more soundly than at home. The B&B's grounds are beautiful and the whole experience there was relaxing. read more

My husband and I found this while looking for accommodations near Saratoga springs AND the battlefield. This B&B is located right off the battlefield and is ~20 minutes from Saratoga Springs. It was such an amazing place to stay. Everything was perfect from the views to the room to the bed linens to the breakfast. We did not have one complaint. The proprietors were very nice and accommodating. This B&B deserves nothing less than 5 stars. I would rate it higher if I could! read more

We stayed 3 nights in Tan Room which has a king sized bed. It was very comfortable and beautifully appointed. There are larger rooms with fireplaces and jacuzzis if you prefer. Breakfast was custom made and delicious. Each morning Tom prepared a tasty meal of entrees like, omelettes, pancakes or French toast accompanied with homemade muffins and fruit. Tom & Jo Ann we're hospitable and welcoming. They gave information, recommendations and directions to events, restaurants and shopping. Maple Shade is a great home away from home. Enjoy. read more

Perfect B&B! Completely updated historic farmhouse on a beautiful working farm near Saratoga Springs and the Hudson River. The owners were friendly, welcoming people who made us feel like we were visiting family and not at a hotel. Breakfasts were great, the rooms were more than comfortable and we were able to watch the sun rise over the green mountains from the front porch. Only 20 mins or so to saratoga springs. Great value too. We'll be returning and have recommended to several friends. read more
