We went out looking for holiday lights this weekend. We decided to give Maple Tavern a try. It also happened to be my mom's birthday. We were surprised to learn that they were hosting their Ugly Christmas Sweater Party that very day and we thought, "how fun!" Both of my parents actually had an Ugly Christmas Sweater on - what chances! I thought it was super disappointing that non of the employees were participating, nor did they recognize customers that were. Not much of a party if you ask me! The food was just okay, nothing to write home about. I tried a smash burger with waffle fries. I did appreciate that happy hour was offered 7 days a week. I had a strong, but good, tequila sour. I came with a group of friends on a Friday night. We've all come together a few times and have to laugh that we cannot get a read on any of the wait staff. It always seems like they're upset with us, but I don't think they actually are? I like the vibe of the place, and I love anywhere with a claw machine, kids seem to enjoy it too. The food is decent, pretty much what you would expect. I ordered the guac and roll burger, which was good but could use a little more flavor. Finally got around to trying the wings and Mac and cheese at maple tavern and they don't disappoint! The dry rub wings were so good and I love their ranch, and I'm not even a ranch girl usually. They are a little spendy so I won't get them every time but they are a good treat. Their Mac n cheese is so cheesy and creamy. They put their queso in it which I think is a unique twist and it comes with a breadstick which I love. I go to Maple Tavern a lot to watch my friends play volleyball and our server, Bri, is fantastic and so attentive! Sitting outside on the sand is always nice, especially on summer days! read more

Cute tavern style place but service was not the friendliest however it was shift change. I had to go to bar to get refills on beverages, asked for a plate or basket for chicken wing discards never got one, table was out of napkins I had to get them from another table. What was the rudest us bartender saw me walk up there several times to try to get her attention and as I was standing at the bar blatantly ignored me walked around and went to the people at the table to see what was needed. Ok now that I'm done ranting Mets get to the food! Ordered the opinion rings, wings and buffalo chicken salad. I would not order the salad again it was some lettuce with an abundance of canned tomatoes chicken was good. It's a great spot. Has a mix of small town, up north vibes with friendly service, pull tabs, bar games, volley ball leagues and more. It's much bigger than it looks, until my last visit I wasn't aware of the reservable party area in the back. I've had apps, burgers, sandwiches and always enjoyed my meal. They like to highlight the "Don't finger your beer" catch phrase due to the bottoms up beer dispenser. It's totally innocent and I think kind of funny. Had an amazing experience tonight on the patio. The server was super nice and let us sit in the volleyball area so that my son could play in the sand. We watched the teams play games and listened to live music. The nachos with brisket and added guacamole were delicious and layered perfectly. The Cobb salad was super satisfying with generous toppings. It looked so good we started eating it before I got pictures! I highly recommend trying them. read more

I've ended up at maple tavern a few more times this year and I must say they handle a big group pretty well. We came yesterday with about 20 people to celebrate a graduation and everyone was happy. I came to Maple Tavern in Maple Grove for an early birthday dinner with my aunt, who treated me to a cocktail and a meal. Unfortunately, what was meant to be a celebratory evening turned uncomfortable. Our first bartender was dismissive and unfriendly from the start. The energy felt cold and unwelcoming. Later, a different bartender stepped in and completely shifted the tone as she was warm, attentive, and actually seemed happy we were there. I genuinely appreciated her professionalism. During our visit, a patron seated near us loudly glorified his sexual experiences with Black women. While that may not be the restaurant's fault directly, it created an uncomfortable atmosphere and added to the overall feeling that the space wasn't being thoughtfully managed. To make matters worse, after finishing most of our sliders (which were ordered through the first bartender), I found hair at the bottom of the basket. Finding hair in your food is never acceptable and completely disrupted what was supposed to be a special evening. We quickly paid and left. I don't enjoy leaving negative reviews, but the combination of dismissive service, an uncomfortable environment, and a food sanitation issue made this experience disappointing especially for a celebration. I hope management takes feedback like this seriously, because no one should leave a celebratory dinner feeling unsettled instead of appreciated. read more

If you're going to employee bartenders who hate their job, add servers in the bar area. We sat there during bingo a few weeks ago and were ignored the entire time. Bartender brought us water since we were going to order drinks with our food, someone else brought out the food. Food was good but not the dining experience. We ended up bussing our own table, and asking someone else for drinks after an hour of waiting. I have 20 years of experience in the service industry and always side with the server but started paying attention.. this bartender was going out of her way to ignore customers. Everyone seated in and at the bar were upset and sitting there with empty glasses as she continued chatting with her regulars and doing everything but helping other customers. Three tables of people talked outside about how horrible the service was as we left. We won't be back. read more

Bobby and Janae have to be the WORST bartenders in the world. Not only did I get watered down drinks that I was overcharged for (like being charged for a double when I ordered and received a single), when I brought it up to the owner Chad, I was basically told to f#ck off. He couldn't care less. RUDE people who don't care about customers. The food I ordered was cold and late as well. What a sh*t hole this place is. I will never set foot in it again. You should be careful that they don't steal from you too! Pouring a single and charging for a double is against the law but they don't care. Surprised by how good the food was! I had a brisket grilled cheese, tots and a side salad. YUMMY ranch haha. The service was kind of all over the place and it wasn't that busy on a Sunday, but they were friendly none the less. Looks like there is a nice patio! Good beer list. The wings are good! We had their special featured pickle dry rub flavor. I would come back for more wings. The rest of the food was so-so. A lot of dupes on the menu - KFC's famous bowl, chipotle bowl... a little weird but I was thinking maybe it's like a souped up version. Sadly the KFC bowl had more flavor at KFC. I visited Maple Tavern for a weeknight dinner and sat outside on their patio. The patio features a lot of tables in a wide space, an outdoor bar window, and lots of string lights that really hit home during a Minnesota summer. Our server was very attentive and patient - he had to come over to try to take our order multiple times as I caught up with a friend and was friendly every time. once we did order, the service was fast. My friend and I both ordered wine and I was impressed by what they served. I don't have high hopes for wine in a sports bar, but my Pinot noir was pretty good! I ordered the chicken bacon avocado sandwich. It was really nicely done with plenty of sauce, perfectly toasted bread, and moist chicken. I swore I was only going to eat half but ended up wolfing down the entire thing since it was so good! I got tator tots on the side with seasoned sour cream and they were the perfect side. I took a quick glance at other reviews, and the ratings were all over the board. However, my impression was much more positive. My neighbor recommended Maple Tavern because they serve lobster bisque on Monday and Friday. I was a bit skeptical because I grew up on the East Coast and I know that good lobster bisque in Minnesota is about as rare as lobsters in Lake Mille Lacs. However, I'm telling you this was EXCELLENT with lots of pieces of lobster in a very rich soup for a price (a large bowl was only $7.25) that's half of more "refined" restaurants. It rated 10 out of 10. However, I could not finish the bowl, so I'm having lobster bisque for lunch again today The servings sizes are from Land of the Giants. My wife had the Street Tacos ($9.00) with a side order of onion rings ($10) that looked like doughnuts. You need to split these among several people. Both items were very good. I stupidly thought a bowl of soup would not be filling enough for lunch, so I ordered the jumbo pretzel with cheese ($10). This was the size of a hubcap and was baked perfectly -- not too soft and not too hard -- and not too much salt. It was addicting, but just like everything else, half of it came home with us. The menu was varied and the service was great (although there were not many people there for lunch on a Monday). My experience was excellent and it rates a return visit. Maple Tavern is very nearly a great place to grab a meal and hang out. The food is quite good, and reasonably priced, but it's all let down by one critical element: Consistent quality of service. Going to the Tavern was always a crap shoot. Would we get a friendly server, with attention to detail, or would we be treated as if we were keeping them from something far more important? In recent months, the pendulum has swung to extremes, with either outstanding service or -- like our last visit -- open hostility for daring to bother the server to do their job. If we could expect consistently good service, we would likely return to Maple Tavern. Unfortunately, the open hostility of the server during our last visit shattered the dromedary's spine, so we're done. There are countless other offerings in the area; no need to visit one where we never know if we'll feel welcomed or reviled. read more

Our server had zero personality and even walked away once while I was giving our order without notice...it was very odd. I used to love coming here. Over the past the year the service has gone from great to disrespectful. I went in recently to have a late lunch (2:00 PM). The sign at the hostess desk said something like "seat yourself" so we started to find a table and a server came at us hot saying we need to wait for the hostess. We apologized and said we were just doing what the sign said and she snapped her gum and spun the sign around while rolling her eyes. She then placed us at a table where I would be touching the people behind us while eating. We felt uncomfortable and we could tell the table next to us did as well. There where about 10 other tables open in the area and when I asked to sit at a different one she stared at me then slapped the menus down on a dirty table and walked away. We decided to leave Maple Tavern and will not be back. Staff need to be nicer. Not a lot people are going out to eat these days and retention of current customers is important to the future of your success. read more

Found this local tavern when a buddy was in town. I searched wings and beer and up comes Maple Tavern. We had two small orders of wings one sauces with an Asian sauce the other a dry rub and waffle fries! The food was awesome and they had a great beer selection to pair with good bar food! I have had Maple Tavern quite a few times. The first experience there was great, but from there, things began to go downhill. The service and food quality at Maple Tavern has been very inconsistent. The first meal I had there was the mac and cheese, which instantly became my favorite restaurant mac and cheese. It checked all the boxes for me - cheesy, creamy, and very flavorful! However, this was not what I found I could expect with every order. It started to come with a lot less cheese sauce than what I had first experienced. I typically get MT for takeout, so there was no opportunity to send anything back. Even requesting "extra cheesy" didn't do the trick. One time for takeout, we were given an entirely wrong order, even after repeating our order to the host to confirm they were given the right one. We had to drive it back and get our right order, which by then was not fresh. Another time, we ordered two cans of pop with our order, but we didn't receive them with the food. When I called the restaurant to tell them this, I was told I had to email the manager to request a refund? I have had plenty of experiences with missing items in food orders before, and never once have I had to email a manager to get comped for missing items. In another takeout order, we were given an estimated ready time of a little over an hour. We went to get the food a little earlier just in case, because the wait typically wasn't that long in past orders, but we figured it was just a busy night. Upon arrival to get the food, we asked if it had just recently been done or if it had been sitting out a while. We were assured it was fresh. When we got home, the food was cold and we had to microwave it, which to us meant it had been sitting out for a while. It would have been nice to receive a call or a message if your food is done before the ready time, or just make so it's ready at the estimated ready time when the patron is likely to come, as that's when they were given. Another thing that I found a little iffy about Maple Tavern is that they were closed for several days at one point. Upon reopening, when we asked why they had been closed, the staff refused to tell us. I feel like in the midst of a pandemic, it is important to be transparent about closures, especially the health of patrons and staff is concerned. I can't imagine a reason why a restaurant would withhold information about a closure. Throughout the past couple years, if a restaurant needed to close for cleaning/sanitizing due to COVID, they were forthcoming about it. I'm disappointed in the declining quality of service and food in the times I've had Maple Tavern. At first the food was really good and this was going to be a go-to spot. Now, with the uncertainty surrounding what I'm going to get from the experience, I'm not really apt to continue ordering food from here, at least not for takeout. read more

I got the Alfredo pasta which was very creamy, they aren't stingy on the sauce. 3/5 stars due to the absolute terrible service. We waited probably 10 minutes before being waited on when first arriving. Then the waitress didn't get my sisters order right, forgetting the shrimp. Lastly, she was no where to be found so my sister had to go inside and go find her. It wasn't busy on the patio where we were.
