We ordered: 1. 마포 감자탕 전골 Mapo Gamjatang Jeongol - Spicy pork neck bone soup with vegetable, mushrooms, hand-pulled dough, glass noodles perilla seeds, and potato 2. Seafood Pancake Perfect meal in the cold weather. The gamjatang was set up beautifully set up and was delicious. Pork meat was fall of the bone and soup was flavorful. Seafood pancake was ideally crispy. No issues with service. Interior was simple, traditional, and clean.

    Small (2-3) gamjatang jeongol

I recently revisited Mapo Gamjatang as I had a massive craving for a Gamjatang jeongol. I came in for a weekday lunch and ordered the regular (serves 2-3 according to the menu) gamjatang jeongol to share with my sister. The accompanying banchan were pretty pitiful with half filled dishes of 2 types of kimchi (the radish one was not good), stir fried fish cake and some corn and frozen peas and carrots tossed in mayo (yuck). Then they brought out the burner for the jeongol and set it on our wobbly table which was already over crowded with their utensil box, water jug and the banchan as they seated us on a table for 2. The restaurant was not busy so it would have made sense to move us to a bigger table where the burner and the jeongol could have been better accommodated? They just fixed the wobble and kept us on the table. When our jeongol arrived, I had a good chuckle as a dish meant to feed 2-3 people, it was sadly on the small side. At $48.99, you would expect some thing a little bigger. And we had to order 2 bowls of rice separately as the jeongol did not come with rice. Really?! Then the actual flavour of the gamjatang... was just ho hum. I remember coming here a bunch of times after they first opened and thinking, "wow, this place is legit!" I'm sad to say that next time I'm craving gamjatang, this is not where I would come back to. The soup was salty without much substance. Msg, Korean miso and other mish-mesh of flavours resembling a ramen soup powder was the prevailing note, not from a long boil of pork bones with re-hydrated cabbage leaves. The bones were also under-boiled, as we could not pull the segments of bones apart to enjoy all the meat that were stuck in between; a must for a good gamjatang in my opinion. This lunch cost $65 with tax and tip. Our last experience at this restaurant was such a good one and this one being so under-whelming, I would maybe give them one more try before writing them off completely. But for now, I am in no hurry to return.

If you're craving pork bone soup, this is just the right place to grab a big, flavourful, packed bowl of Gamjatang. Came here on a rainy day, which is a perfect day to be munching down on some soup. Ordered the regular Gamjatang, and it was huge! Came with 3 big pork bones, potatoes, noodles & packed with spice and flavour. Amazing. Soup base was great, which is what makes a Gamjatang great in my opinion (alongside the meat). Exactly what I was looking for, and even came home with some leftovers! Side dishes were also very flavourful, was a fan fave of their kimchi & fish cakes. Would definitely be coming back if I'm craving Gamjatang. Definitely one of the biggest portions I've had!! Would recommend.

Went here for my mom's birthday three years in a row. It's her favourite Korean restaurant and she swear by their gamjatang jeongol. We always order the large and add on a fried rice after. Amazing fall off the bone pork and the soup is so flavourful. Their side dishes are also some of our favourite from all the restaurants in the GTA. Their tonkatsu and seafood pancake are also good but the biggest standout is definitely the gamjatang. The servers are all really nice and attentive and the place is quite clean. It's always a great dining experience here and we will be coming again for her birthday next year.

This place doesn't have a lot on the menu because they specializes in one thing, pork bone soup. Portions are decent, if the menu says it's for 3-4 then it is definitely enough for 3-4 people. Four of us got the big pot (3-4) there were about 10-12 pieces of pork bone meat in general along with bunch of rice cakes, noodles, and potatoes. Flavours are pretty authentic but extremely salty.

Second time coming here and the food has been pretty consistent. We got the mapo gamjatang and got the fried rice afterwards which I didn't get to try the first time I came and the dakganjeong. I would say the kamjatang isn't anything special. Meat was tender and falls off the bone but it lacks a bit of flavour. I liked the fried rice though. I enjoyed the dakganjeong a lot even from my previous visit. I would just get this next time. Service was good, food came out fairly fast.

Revisited Mapo Gamjatang for dinner tonight and was pretty underwhelmed by the food. The dakganjeong (fried chicken) was overcooked and had a really thick batter.. it wasnt even crispy, it was straight up hard. It was also spicy even though we ordered the non-spicy version. If you look at my previous photo of this dish for comparison, you can definitely see that the batter was poorly done. The gamjatang was just average-tasting. It had 3 pieces of pork bone, but it was more bone than pork.. and a very bland tasting potato. It seems that the store's door is too light because it kept swinging open and letting the cold winter wind inside. It cooled down the food faster too.

Firs thing first: DONT FORGET TO MAKE A RESERVATION! It would take an hour or 2 if you see a wait line They also have less items to choose from on the menu comparing to other korean places, so make sure you double check the menu before visiting Food came relatively fast! I love ramen noodles in pork bone soup (gamjatang) super flavourful. I also got the Korean rice ball dish. It does taste good, but a tiny bit too oily for my liking but great experience rolling your own rice balls. Overall 4/5~

With my love for Mapo's K-BBQ location in K-town, I decided to try out their gamjatang place in North York. Service was on point, as our server was very attentive and welcoming. The environment is clean, and the ambiance is just like other Korean restaurants, where you can smell the aroma of food boiling. We ordered the pork bone soup, and it came in generous portions. The food was good, but I would like it to come in a bigger pot that everything can fill.

Solid!! Big portions for the pork bone soup. I loved the cabbage they put in it and wished they put more of it. It wasn't spicy even though it mentioned it would be. I think it's very good value and would go back again to enjoy it more leisurely. I do prefer tea being at the table vs being served, and their banchan was a bit lacking, but their Signature Gamjatang hit the spot and I loved the generous portion. Would go back and happily recommend to others!

Was not expecting this one!! We came here on a whim as we were passing it by and thought "oh that place looks nice" and we were not disappointed at all. The service was amazing and friendly. We decided to sit on the patio and it was decent weather. We ordered some things off the menu to try because we were unsure about doing the shared dish just yet, but will come back for that next time! Overall, an amazing experience

So good! I was invited here by a friend. im not a fan of pork, so i was a little disheartened to see the menu have 80% gamjatang options. But I expected this before coming as I had looked at the menu ahead of time. I still wanted to try their specialty soup so I got it and boy was I not disappointed. The gamjatang was soo good, food for the soul fr. I got the mapo gamjatang sujebi. The pork flaked off the bone very well, and the dough pieces helped make the soup more filling. I was able to take some home which I reboiled on the stove with the same amount of good flavour.

Great option for a casual weekday dinner if you're in the area! I've only tried the pork bone soup and I love it! Portion size is great, it includes 3-4 pieces of large pork bones with a good amount of meat, a large chunk of potato and some glass noodles. The soup also comes with a side of rice. You also get side dishes that you can refill so all in all, it's a very filling meal for about $20-$25 (including tax and tip). The food comes out very fast and the servers are always nice. One downside is that if you go in the winter and sit near the door, it constantly swings open so the cold air breezes through the restaurant. The party that was sitting near the door had to put their coats on while eating....couldn't have been too comfortable.
