Delicious Korean food, good quality We came around 2PM on a Sunday and there was plenty of seating. Throughout our time there though it was never empty and had a constant flow of people coming in to eat. For 2 people we ordered kimchi soondubu (tofu stew), seafood pancake, and bibim naengmyun (spicy cold noodles). We were pretty hungry and finished everything, but I still think the portions were a bit on the smaller side. Everything was super fresh and delicious though! My mom loved the bibim naengmyun, it was her first time trying it. It pairs well with the mustard oil sauce and a refreshing meal on a summer day. It's not really spicy at all. The seafood pancake was the next favorite, with solid amount of seafood. The kimchi stew fell short, but I think the regular soondubu would have been better for us. The stew comes with a side of rice. From the banchan the radish and kimchi were my favorites, but everything was super crunchy and fresh. There are restrooms downstairs. Really homey Korean food. Definitely get their jajangmyeong - delicious. We ended up getting two bowls for a group of five. We also ordered the seafood pancake, pork bone soup, and tteokbokki. The soup and the tteokbokki weren't anything special but the seafood pancake was one of the best I've had, chewy and flavorful. Service was also extremely fast and waitress was attentive. We waited about 30 minutes, then our name was called by the staff. Our waiter was a young man who greeted us and brought water, utensils and side dishes. My boyfriend was so excited since this was his first time trying Korean food! It took a bit of time for us to decide as there was a lot on the menu. After, my boyfriend chose large size Kampungki (deep-fried chicken in sweet and spicy sauce) and ordered a small bowl of rice on the side. I picked Soondubu (soft tofu stew with assorted seafood and mixed vegetables with rice on the side). We enjoyed our meal- my boyfriend said the chicken pieces were yummy- the chicken pieces were crispy and sweet and spicy on the outside and juicy inside. The Soondubu was also good, I liked the spice level and there was good amount of seafood and vegetables with soft tofu). Our server was helpful and friendly, he brought us everything that we asked for (e.g. fork, extra napkins, more water, hot sauce). We had a fun time here for dinner. I had previously walked past this restaurant so many times and finally went in for dinner today. I am so glad I did. As you walk in, you see photos of all the people of note who have visited for a meal along the wall and it's a very impressive! We were seated quickly and it wasn't busy being a Sunday night, but there were several tables still eating. We were served quickly and the owner even stopped by to make sure we were ordering the right amount of food and being taken care of. Our entrees and banchan arrived quickly and hot so we were eager to dig in. We had the soondubu and ddukbokki (I added the bulgogi and it was so delicious). The portions are hearty and the food has great flavour. You can tell everything is made with fresh, quality ingredients. We'll definitely be back to try more, as all the dishes we saw coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. The highlight was most definitely the service. The owner, Jason, takes the time to get to know you, ensures you're enjoying your meal, and shares his love for his mom's cooking and keeping her spirit in everything they do. A long time staple in the Toronto community, I can't believe I did not visit Korean Village Restaurant until now! I can now see why many celebrities and locals enjoy this spot for humble and delicious Korean favourites! The overall atmosphere is warm and welcoming as soon as you walk inside with your group of friends! Me and my friends were welcomed warmly by the owner and his staff which shows their kindness as a family business. They have a few set items from stews to tabletop cooking for all tastes and preferences. The Seafood Pancake is crispy and has a decent amount of seafood to pair well with the soy and vinegar dipping sauce. The gamjatang has a generous amount of pork bones to broth ratio. We loved the jajangmyeon and their house kimchi so much that we had to eat there twice in the week we were visiting! Jason (one of the owners) came by our table to see how we were enjoying the food, and shared his family story about the restaurant which we found so endearing. Generally spacious and cute restaurant. They've got little booths for people to sit in. The servers are kind and attentive. You have to press a button to call them over. You order from a QR menu and it's a pretty small but good menu. I ordered the jajangmyun and it was very good. The noodles were nice and chewy and the sauce was quite nice. My friend who is vegetarian ordered jajangmyun as well but to make a vegetarian version there was an upcharge. She was disappointed with what she got because the sauce she got was mostly just onions. She didn't get some veggies that I got such as potatoes and mushrooms. It seems they make a different sauce for it which explains the upcharge. My boyfriend got the bulgogi dinner which was okay. They forgot the miso soup. The meal was quite expensive. My noodles however were very cheap. I recommend the jajangmyun! Overall, a decent place, the hiccups mentioned in this post were probably due to the fact that so many people had come in for the koreatown street festival. read more

It's a cozy family-run business and the menus are available via QR code (via a browser on your phone), making it all contactless. Water was filled up quite frequently as well. Food: The banchan were simple but tasty, with small plates of bean sprout, kimchi, and fish cake The dolsot bibimbap was well done and the ingredients tasted fresh. You choose the amount of gochujang to add, as it comes in a bottle. It also came with a small miso soup. The pork bone soup was a very generous serving with about 4 or 5 pieces of pork, and the broth was on the milder side and not spicy at all. It was nice and hearty on a cold Winter's day. Atmosphere: The place was jam-packed with families and friends, and the wooden décor transforms you to Asia, with wooden tables and smaller rooms available as well. It was very warm and inviting for parties of all sizes. Overall: A must-visit for Korean food near downtown, and affordable as well. I visited for dinner (dine-in) on a Tuesday night and was seated right away. They currently have capacity limits due to COVID restrictions but they hadn't needed to turn anyone away at the time I was there. I ordered the yukgaejang (spicy beef soup with scallions/veg) and mandu (dumplings). The yukgaejang was perfectly spicy (this is not for the spice-averse) and so comforting on a cold Toronto night. I got the mandu fried and they were standard but still good, pork with a nice hint of ginger. The banchan included kimchi, fish cake, and mung bean sprouts. All were good but I loved the kimchi. Banchan are side dishes and included in every meal, you don't have to pay extra for them. The owner was walking around the floor and attending to customers and ensuring everyone was having a good meal. He informed me that they were short staffed and apologized for the extra time it took to get my food, but in all honesty I didn't think I had to wait that long. I appreciated that he continued to walk around and offer free rice, drinks, etc to customers to make up for the delay. He brought over a side of his special kimchi for me to try, too. Even though they were short staffed, you could tell that everyone was working their hardest during COVID restrictions. I felt so welcomed here and the food was delicious. Went here today for the very first time. I cannot believe this place has been under my nose for the past 3 decades. Loved everything about this place! Service was prompt to seat us and take our order. It was a little laxidazial toward the end, we waited a long while before getting our final check and my friend was attempting to flag the waitress down on several occassions and to no avail. I started with a warm 4 oz cup of, likely, green tea, it tasted like it had been made with toasted rice. Delicious and very soothing to my stomach. The rice cakes were very unlike, the hard, round store bought ones. These ones come rolled up (cylinder in shape), soft, fresh, warm, in a spicy sauce with some interesting fish cake- I tried this and did not enjoy it and a boiled egg. The texture of the rice cake resembles a really thick and big noodle. Except its not as heavy as white flour, its lighter, chewy, interesting and tasty. They brought us complimentary miso soup. I love, love, love, love miso soup. It is always a great starter. For my main, I ordered the stone bowl with spicy shrimp. Absolutely scrumptous. It came out sizzling, gotta love that sound. So many mini shrimps, adequately dispersed. It came with a runny yoke, fried egg on the top with strips of seasweed, sesame seeds, some bean sprouts, and green and red pepper. Extra bean sprouts, kimchi and more fish cake strips were offered on the side, as additional toppings. The best part about the bowl, is the well cooked rice at the very bottom. So incredibly tasty. I would have preferred my fried egg, well done, with a cooked centre. I do not enjoy runny yoke (The oozing of it does not appeal), yet allowed it to seep into my rice and ate it nonetheless. I liked that we were there for a good couple hours, taking our time with our meals and there was no rush. Its easy to continue to pick away at your food when conversation is flowing and time is passing. My friend also enjoyed her dish, the same, a stone bowl, except instead of shrimp, she had pork. Loved the spaciousness. Seriously, so much room! The booths are substantial. You could even get a lil' private room, their tables are wide- there is enough room for everything, their hallways are wide, their stairs to go down to the rest rooms, wide. So much space... I love it. Newer places these days have such condensed seating, barely enough room between your table and the guests next to you. Much less, on your own table for your own apps, mains and drinks. Its unbarebly uncomfortable. Not to mention the loudness it gets in smaller spaces. Sound and noise tend to bounce off the walls, contrary to how many people are seated. Here though, at Korea Village, peace can be sought. Although today, the person next to us was talking so loudly it felt like I had to talk over him just to converse with my friend. It was a tad annoying and I was thankful when they left. They may have felt the same about me. We still managed though. They have pictures of famous people who have been there, side by side with the owner, among them, Nelly Furtado, Jackie Chan and Sandra Oh, so cool they commemorate in that way. And they won in 2021, as NOW magazine's readers' choice for Korean Food. Definitely worth returning. read more

Wonderful dinner experience. When we arrived, there was not a big wait (15min). We wrote my name on the board and waited in line inside the entrance area. Food was great, the only comment is that we received our pancake only after following up on it, and we thought usually this arrives first. All the servers are friendly and around so it never takes long to get their attention if you need anything. For two females we ordered a small fried chicken appetizer and a tofu kimchi stew. The appetizer was way larger than we expected. It seemed more like a main course dish. I had also thought it'd be like other Korean Fried Chicken and not in small pieces but it was still good. There was plenty of sauce and the breading on the chicken didn't get soggy even towards the end of the dish. I liked that the kimchi stew wasn't too spicy but still had a kick.
