I don't recommend them and won't leave my dogs there again. They were rude and didnt provide good service.

I saw this place with all the awesome reviews and was excited to take my pup this week. Checking out the website, they don't post any grooming prices so I had to call and get a quote. The woman was very abrasive with me like I had offended her to ask such a question. She finally gave me a price and told me not to come in til next week anyways. Have boarded my 3 cats in quite a few different kennels and the Mar Mel Inn is the best ever! Of course none of my cats "enjoy" a boarding situation but they have never been upset (like they have been in the past) when I bring them home. I have a 25 lbs Maine Coon that gets a wash and a lion cut once a year and Barbara did the best job by far. The entire staff is so friendly and helpful. And you cannot beat their prices. My jaw dropped when I was told how much it would be for boarding for 3 cats for a day and grooming the one cat. It was beyond reasonable. I was expecting to pay twice as much (since I have everywhere else) I cannot praise and recommend this place enough. read more

Well, once again we boarded our dog at Mar Mel and once again they were great. We have boarded our dogs here for well over ten years and will continue so. For a budget location to board your dog, I would definitely recommend this place. Boarding is so expensive, and I love my little furbaby but... he's a dog, not a *real* baby. So I was looking for something a little more reasonably priced when it came to somewhere to stash him over the weekend. First the bad: Mar Mel Inn is in a bad neighborhood - so just plan on making your drop off and then getting outta there! The dogs play in a dirt lot yard so they'll probably come back pretty stinky. And, they're kept in kennels outside which is the biggest downer, especially in the summer time when it can be really hot for fluffy dogs. Also, they're only open from 8-10 and from 4-5:30 for pickup and drop-off, so not the most convenient. The GOOD: The staff is very friendly and nice! Also, I can tell my dog didn't suffer because he was willing to roll over on his back and let me pet his belly the same day he came home (not always so at other boarding places). Also, this place is the cheapest place I've found for dog boarding in LA that isn't a vet's office. I'll definitely take my furbaby back here when he needs to be boarded again. I just wish it was closer to where I live (at least it's semi-convenient to work).. read more

we have two big dogs and have left them at Mar Mel several times at this point, sometimes for just a weekend, and even for longer. Firstly they let them share a kennel which saves money, and the dogs get to be with each other just like at home. Secondly they really take such good care of the dogs that we don't ever fear bringing them and leaving them. We know they are in great hands. Yesterday we picked our dogs up after a four day weekend away and they were happy, clean (they also groom) and well fed and cared for. What more could you ask for when leaving your most precious dogs in someone else's care??? I would definitely recommend Mar Mel Inn for anyone who has a dog and needs to have time away for any reason. read more

What a great place to take care of your pets when you are away! 15 years ago, we used Mar Mel many times for kenneling our dogs. A couple of generations later, we go back and the same people are still there! We have 2 young dobies, 3 years and 10 months, they have never been away from home over night before. We left them at Mar Mel for a week and when we came home, they were happy, bathed and had a nail trim. There was no evidence of stress. This is a very clean and friendly place. Barbara, Kellan, John, and the gang are super nice, and they keep Mar Mel Inn very CLEAN! They've been doing this a long time, so they know dogs and cats! My experience was special because I boarded a rescue dog at Mar Mel Inn for about a month, because of the reasonable price. The staff donated baths on the weekends I took her to adoption events, which was super sweet! But it was Mar Mel Inn's decision to allow this pitbull's rescue flyer to be displayed in their business that led to an AMAZING family adopting her (the family's cat regularly boards at Mar Mel Inn). Great as a groomer! I was able to bring my dog in extremely last minute the day before Christmas Eve (extremely busy time) and they washed and cut my dog perfectly! My dog was calm & happy, too. Hands down the best pet hotel to leave your pet at. I brought my two cats to stay for 6 days and couldn't be more pleased with when I came to retrieve my kitties! They were bathed, played with, fed great food and were very well taken care of. They had some extra notes they took on my kitties to let me know how their stay was. They don't nickle and dime you and the prices are very reasonable. I am most definitely coming here again and would definitely recommend this place to anyone who needs a great pet hotel for their pets! read more

We are regulars here at the Inn. Everytime we need to go somewhere, we don't think twice about bringing our black lab here. We've been doing so maybe 5-6 times a year, averaging about 3-4 days for 4 years now. Never had any problems. Our dog is always excited to go here and goes home extremely tired. If we don't ask them to give her a bath, she always goes home really dirty. So, I suggest giving up $20 for the bath or pick her up dirty and drive straight to the Launderpet for a $12 bath. I was introduced to Mar Mel Inn before I even had a dog. My close friends and neighbors all raved about the pet B & B. I would help them out with occasional pick ups. Well we finally brought home our new puppy (2004). 3 months later we boarded Annika at Mar Mel Inn. Barbara Goggin welcomed us at the gate and immediately became a part of our family. We've been boarding and grooming monthly for 14 years. Annika actually scratches at the gate to come in. She is always warmly greeted by an amazing staff. Half the time when I come in you can't find my records since there was a lapse in time since I visited and I have to recreate them including bringing in shots. You were not there. I never raised my voice and what I said in my prior comment was completely accurate. My dogs were excited to see me and jumping around and rowdy I admit but the things I said about your employee are absolutely true. You can choose to believe what you like. This is my word against theirs. I am a Vice President at a well known bank and I was treated with total disrespect. I now know how a homeless person feels. Furthermore, none of my dogs have ever tried to bite anyone. One is a trained therapy dog at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. I trained her, so your comment about the dogs being aggressive and trying to bite is a lie and off base. The dog you are referring to is barely 8 pounds and so shy she doesn't come close to anyone. I was told no one was able to get near her to take off the vest. I'm speaking about one employee who should not work there and obviously gave you an untrue story. read more

The area is what it is... industrial. Snazzy diggs = much higher prices & less freedom for our pooches. My gripe is their hours for pick-up & drop-off are very limited (1 1/2 hours in the morning and a couple of hours in the evening). I love Mar Mel and Barbara! We have a 2 year old female Portuguese Water Dog named Maddie, who has a "spa" appointment once a month. Barbara and her staff are attentive and efficient. I highly recommend Mar Mel! My Labrador Retriever, as much as she loves people, never liked being groomed. I took her to a top-rated groomer I found on Yelp and actually had to pick her up after about 30 minutes because she was so upset. That's when a friend recommended Mar Mel. Mar Mel is great because unlike other places, your dog does not have to be crated. If you dog is social, they get the run of the yard with other dogs while they wait. The rest of the magic is Barbara and her staff. My Lab hasn't had a problem since I started taking her to Mar Mel- she comes home clean and happy. read more

From the minute I drove up to the minute I picked Carson up 6 days later the staff was professional and friendly to both Carson and ourselves. I felt like we had been there before, I was that comfortable. I had no idea how much it was going to cost to board him for a week (before I called to get a quote), but it was sooo worth it. I drive from Huntington Beach to Long Beach to have my Newfoundlands groomed as well as boarded at Mar Mel Inn. The price for grooming as well as boarding is very reasonable, especially when you live in Orange County. My dogs have ranged from all ages....young puppy to old mellow senior dog and all of them have loved Mar Mel Inn. Barbara is one of the best groomers that I have encountered in all of my years owning dogs. A big concern in moving from the Pittsburgh area was finding a kennel and a groomer as great as we had there. Fortunately, we found Mar Mel and Barbara and the warm and caring staff. Our two dogs love going there. Each visit they wait impatiently at the gate, anxious to meet and greet their human and canine friends, whether it's for grooming or a stay. I recently left my cat at Mar Mel - thinking they would take good care of him. When I picked him up 8 days later and took him out of his carrier - He was so weak he could barely walk and began drinking water like he was dying of thirst. I took him to the vet the next morning - They put him on a machine to hydrate him - and told me he was in renal failure. He died on Memorial Day at 6:21 a.m. After I got home and called to ask what had happened to my cat - they told me he was just fine. Really? Well, you decide if you think this is a safe place to leave your cherished pet. So in short I picked him late afternoon on May 24th and he passed on the morning of May 26th. read more

Mar Mel Inn may not look like much, but they do a great job. We boarded 3 Jack Russells several times for as long as 3 weeks. The dogs were always happy and in great shape when we picked them up. When we dropped them off they always seemed happy, like gong to doggie resort. Our dogs sometimes had some special medicines. No problem. The staff at Marmel are just really nice and good with dogs. Brought my chocolate lab max here 2 times so far and he loves it! They are very friendly and do a great job! Can't beat the price!!! You can't just walk in of course but have to make an appointment and have certain times you have to go by but there's room and boarding for your dog like for example I drop my dog off before I go to work in the mornings before 9 then pick him up before 5 everything works out great! However, there were a few occasions where I felt that I was being fussed at like a child. Three months ago we adopted a rescue dog. He has extreme separation anxiety, does not socialize well with other dogs and barks a lot. I was concerned about leaving him. When we walked in, Barbara greeted him, let him relax, get acquainted with the area and let him mix with a few other dogs. He didn't bark or run back to me. When I picked him up later in the day, he looked terrific, so well groomed, and seemed at ease.
